Background Life Story:
Kaya was the only survivor in a litter, born to the alpha pair in a very small pack of 6 wovles in a forest far away. She demonstrated a gentle and caring nature from an early age and enjoyed helping to teach the next litter of pups who were born after her, bringing the total number of wolves in the pack to ten, to hunt when she was old enough. However just before she turned three years old, her life changed forever. One day a large group of poachers out hunting came across Kaya's pack. The whole pack was killed for their fur with the exception of Kaya who was away hunting at the time.
Kaya returned and sniffing the air, could smell that something was wrong. Quietly and stealthily, they padded through the forest until she came to the clearing where the pack's den was. Stopping in the shadows of the trees, Kaya could see the hunters gathering the bodies of her pack and driving off. Devastated Kaya decided to leave her home forever. Kaya spent the next few months living on the fringes of other packs' territories, staying alive by catching rabbits and other small prey. During this time, there were skirmishes with other wolves, where Kaya sustained the little scars on her muzzle and a 5 inch scar on her right hind leg. One day just before Kaya turned four years old, she was walking through yet more forest, when a large male bear appeared from nowhere, on his way to a nearby river to hunt for salmon. The bear suddenly spotted her and lunged. The bear gave Kaya a 10 inch wound on her left shoulder as she tried to escape. Eventually Kaya escaped the bear and continued to wander looking for a pack to call home.
