A friend in the storm

Aven shivered as the icy wind blew over her fur. Usually the lone lands were hot, and storms were rare. She could taste the bitterness of snow in the air and knew that soon snow would bury her if she did not find shelter. She paused to rest for a moment, even though time was a luxury she could not afford. She scanned the horizon hurriedly. Tiny flakes of snow began to drift from the sky and she began to run again. The snow piled up quickly, and her steps were laboured. She spotted a tree, its wood gray, and its branches knarled with age. Hope rose inside of her. Maybe she could find shelter in its roots. Her paws scrabbles fruitlessly on the icy dirt, but eventually cracked the covering, revealing an abandoned fox den. She dove inside, grateful for the sliver of warmth it gave her.

I woke to hear heavy paw steps heading towards me.i could feel the paw steps getting closer.I could feel a growl rising in my throat. I don't have time for intruders,i thought to myself.i crept closer towards the entrance of the den,straining my eyes to see who was there.i looked closer to see a scruffy tired looking she-wolf.
