Caspian heard the tone in Red's voice and his blue eyes seemed to brighten greatly. Oooooooh this sounded like fun! The excitement grew so thick in Caspian that his little body trembled and then he bounced in place. Red's antics and his challange to catch him because he was a 'spy' made Caspian laugh and bound after him.

"Oh no you won't!" He barked loudly, loud enough to stir Atla into the mix for sure. "I am the king here and you will not take information back to your queen!" He laughed. "These are my lands you ....you..." He blinked and stopped in his charge. "What's a good word for a bad guy Red?" Haunches hit the ground and he blinked waiting for his pack and playmate to answer his curiosity. He wanted to use the right word and all...he was 'king' remember?

His little tail still wagged excitedly and his body trembled waiting for the word so the game could commence.

Red watched Caspian's reaction, and was highly pleased the younger was catching on. He smiled at Caspian's attempt to sound formal, and filled in the missing word for him, "Scoundrel or villain are both good words," There were more synonyms, of course, but scoundrel was the favorite word when he was a pup. If that was too difficult to say, Caspian could settle for 'villain'.

In his mock voice, he said, "I will return to my queen. I may have been seen, but I will not be foiled by you, King Caspian!" He paused just long enough to see if Caspian would have a response before darting off. He'd glance back every so often to make sure he was wasn't too fast, but quick enough to remain just ahead of the pups. His anticipated route would weave between the few trees and keeping them within the area. Caspian and Alta probably wouldn't notice, intent on the chase. His plan was to keep them running for a bit, but gradually start to slow down before they got bored. He wondered if they would get any smart ideas to stop him before then, though. He noticed Yana was staring, their excitement probably catching his eye, before the wolf returned to keeping an eye out.

Alta rolled away from the entanglement of her brother darting a glance at the retreating form of their mother. Sadness washed through her momentarily, feeling the anguish of her parents but her attention span was quickly brought up as she quickly identified the change in Red's posture. She didn't catch all the words he said to Caspian but 'spy, caught and flee' was enough for her puppy imagination. Eyes twinkling she watched Caspian engage in play mock threatening the maned wolf. Standing up she felt her legs vibrating, her tail showing off her excitement. As soon as Red supplied Caspian with a word for bad guys she did a little jig shouted "SCOUNDREL!" And Red's retreating form was too much for her instincts and she dashed past her brother giggling.

"Caspian!" She cried in joy calling her brother to the chase. Little puppish yips coming from mouth. "You'll never escape!" She yelled after Red, her little legs pumping to catch up.

Caspian laughed and then barked ferociously and followed his sister as they chased Red. "I will foiled your plans!" He yelled and his legs pistoning up and down to catch their 'enemy'. 'We cannot let him escape Atla!!" He cried. "Hurry or the packlands will be in danger!" Giggling again he would pin his ears and weave the trail his 'foe' had laid for them.

Tongue lolling now and a huge grin on his face he pushed himself. He wanted to nip at Red's heels!!!!

Red barked a laugh, "I'll not be caught!" As he ran, and noticed from the steps behind him the younger bodies were pushing themselves, wanting to gain on him. This kind of play would be of use. They'd be strong when it's decided they were learn to fend for themselves. He kept running a little longer, and if this kind of game were to keep playing, he'd guess it'd take longer and longer for them to tire from a chase.

Soon enough, his own steps gradually slowed. He could imagine the sudden thrill that would run through Caspian and Alta once they realize they were catching up and were able to get him. With his pace slowing, he braced himself for the sudden weight he expected would be on him soon enough. Gone were the days Red himself could forget all the troubles from play, but it still felt good, even if he was the one being chased.

Caspian almost squealed when he noticed they were gaining on Red. He barked with authority. "Halt! You shall not pass...if you stop now we MAY show you mercy!" Laughing he would pin his ears and with a surge of energy he lept, big puppy paws outstretched and a mouth full of sharp little nippers snapping for his tail!!

"Gotcha!" He yelled triumphantly as his teeth clicked close on just fur. He sat down throwing all his weight back as if he alone could pull Red to a screeching stop. He shook his head violently and growled as if he was going to rip his prey to shreds but laughter made him stumble and fall into Red's flank.

The large brute slowly padded closer toward the ocean as his orange orbits watched the waves carefully. His large auditories flickered against the wind that blew from the waves. He felt the water rush up between his paws, digging his talons down into the running sand. His gray fur ruffled gently. He had never seen the ocean before, mostly because of his past home. He had always lived in the lone lands, with his mother and father. But he became an adult, and left his mother behind. He never remember his father. Eiji's mother said that Coyote, his father, and his brother and sister, had ran away in the middle of the night. He remember his other sister though; Rebel. It was hard to have to see her go, mostly because of her change of heart. He was just glad that she found her rightful placing. The male watched his surroundings carefully.

Softly, his nose twitched at the smell of wolves entering his nasal passages. Slowly, the male twisted his dial toward the stench. Eiji's gaze set upon the distance to his right. It seemed that there was a pack near by. His banner twitched unsteadily as he walked a bit closer to the territory, his orange eyes looking for movement around the sand drowned kingdom.

Red held back his laughter at Caspian's words to get him to stop, and he responded dramatically, adding some panting that a desperate wolf might have, "No... I... can't fail..." Just moments later, small teeth sank into the fur of his tail, and noticed by the sudden weight that Caspian was applying force in the opposite direction. Internally grinning, he slowed even more, as if the younger really was strong enough to stop him... until laughter replaced the growling and he felt a weight hit him. Surprised, but deciding to see where this went, he didn't adjust for the weight and allowed himself to fall on his side, Caspian on top.

Looking shocked at the transpired events, Red started to try to get up, using very little of his strength to allow Caspian and Alta time to recover and keep him down. "Can still escape..." he muttered, keeping the game going. After that chase, a bit of more physical play would probably keep the two amused and engaged. This had always been his favorite part. The play fighting after the run. No matter how tired he was, he always found extra energy for this. It probably would be the same right now. His eyes took in the surroundings. In the distance, Yana was giving them an amused expression, but continued his constant scanning while Jack and Calypso were preoccupied with whatever they were currently doing.

Atla's squeels of delight rang in the woods as she chased with her brother. Red form was just around the bend and she bent all her willpower to catching the bru! Aha! There he was slowing! Caspian reached him first but she was close behind nipping his heels and dodging when Caspian 'brought' Red to the ground. No sooner was she atop his head gnawing on his ears. "No mercy for traitors! Aunty's a pirate and they never give mercy!" Laughing she slid over him and nipped at his muzzle laughing all the while. "We've done it Caspian! We've saved the pack!" She looked at her brother, excitement danced in her eyes and her little chest pumped with the physical activity. She paused then though and her ears flattened. She lifted her small nose to the air and to her own surprise and probably to others around her, she pulled her head back in a puppy voice a small and very endearing howl came forth. It was brief but she giggled after..."Red....do you smell that? It's unfamiliar..." And of course it was the wind bringing the scent of a foreign wolf to her nares.

It didn't take long for Jackie to realize that there was some intent on Daija's return, one that likely didn't include her involvement. "Well," she said after a moment of silence, the warmth of a familial welcome slipping away. "Guess I'll leave you two to it, then," she said, and trotted off. A part of her yearned to stick around, hide in the bushes, and eavesdrop on what they had to say, as she would have done as a pup. Oh, how much pack drama there was growing up, and so many secrets withheld. She almost thought of doing it, but she respected her older brother. She wouldn't have wanted him nosing around in her business, anyways. There was much more of the terrace to see, but her interest had never really been in the land. No, she always had eyes for the sea, her paws skipping over the well-beaten trail there, to the shore.

She stood in the wind, the warm breeze ruffling her dark-hued coat, inhaling the salty air. She closed her eyes, relishing the feeling, when it was interrupted by the high-pitched cry of a seagull. She paused, turned, and glared at the pale rat with wings, standing dumbly amongst the rest of a flock. A devious smile, a childish impulse, and she took off, running and barking as loud as she could, the gulls exploding as a volcano would. She laughed, jaws snapping the air at their fat bodies and wings, trying to see how many she could catch. Alas, they escaped her grasp, and she claimed the sandy territory with a resounding bark. "That'll teach ya," she snorted, treading into the water once again, resuming her calm disposition, and enjoying the sight of the sea.

But, something had changed along the horizon. The storm that she had seen with... What was his name. The male, who had adventures like hers, but on another sea... She was so bad with names. Sad, too, as he had been a handsome face. Perhaps if he returned, she would be able to recall. Regardless, they had seen a storm far out over the ocean, but it appeared to be drawing near. She put her nose to the air and inhaled; there was still the overwhelming scent of salt, as always, but there was a particular stench, too, like rotting fish. Even the sky above was beginning to fade to a pale yellow. Hopefully, the others would notice. The trouble with tropical storms was their speed; they could hit without warning.

Something to her left caught her eye. It was a rogue, treading through the lands and seeing the sea for the first time... or the first time from the shores of the Pearl, that is. Jackie paused, wondering if anyone else had seen him yet, but her legs moved and she wandered over to the bru. "Ahoy!" she barked, tassel swinging. Her word of entrance to these lands probably wasn't as good as Jack's or Yana's or anyone else's, but she could tell a good soul from a bad one. She had tangled with the worst of them, afterall. Seafoam eyes glinted in the sunlight, still present in the approaching storm. "And what brings the likes of you to the lands of Captain Jack Sparrow?" she asked, a certain swagger to her step, the gold jewelry jingling in her ear as she walked, but it was by no means a look of a welcoming encounter. If anything, it was bold and confident, and she wondered how this lad would react.

Yana heard Jack's howl, but it didn't sound urgent, and wasn't even fully sure if he was summoning the pack. He waited a few more minutes, just to make sure Caspian and Alta would be fine before he'd turned to find Jack, curious about what excited him. His steps were confident, but cautious. He didn't mind barging in on other people's business, but he did recognize the need for tact. Something was familiar. Something that had been missing. As he drew near, he corrected himself- not something, but someone. This gave his steps pause, unsure if he was intruding.

Red laughed, feeling the sharp, but careful teeth nibbling his ears and hearing Alta's voice. And was that a victory howl of sorts he heard? To be young again and enjoy everything life tossed your way. He caught his breath again and leaned a bit, making sure any form of pup slid off him before sitting up.

Tilting his head at her question, he responded, "That's probably a wolf, requesting to join the pack. One of the others will see to them if they haven't already." Thinking on this, he commented, "How about we find your father and tell him about the adventure you two had today? I'm sure he'd be pleased to hear all about how his son and daughter protected the pack today from the big, bad spy." The two alphas needed all the cheer they could get, and if it could come from the pretend play, all the easier it'd be. Morale had been low, better with Jackie's arrival, but there still was room for improvement.

Caspian was tugged forward when Red fell on his side. He yipped triumphantly and pounced upon him to tug on the fur on his throat. "NO MERCY!" He barked triumphantly and then blinked at his sister who just howled.  Whoa!" he said dropping Red's scruff and stood there looking at her. "How did you do that!?" He knew the adults could howl but they could too?

His sister's words came to his ears and his own nose twitched too. "Smell?' he said and he drank in the salt air and the smells of his packmates and then an odd tendril hit his nares. "Who is that?" He asked and slid off of Red. Then at Red's suggestion he pounced his sister and barked running toward where he heard father.

"LETS GO ATLA...LETS GOoooooAAARRROOO!"

************************************************

Calypso had been watching the sea. Trying to calm her heart but it churned like the waves. A soft sigh escaped her. Liar was gone and they had to accept that. She needed to be a confident mate for Jack once more. He took her strength...her pups needed her strong. Nodding she stood and as if it was fate her love sang for her. A smile hit her lips and she turned her dark paws and trotted out over the sands to where her beloved lie.

She lifted her lips and sang back to him.

She would come.

She would always come for him.

Feet moved swiftly and her ebony form would appear before her mate, tail wagging happily. She looked less stressed hearing his call knowing he was pulling himself out of the darkness of sorry.

"What is it Jack?" she said pulling the affectionate words of 'my love' since there was a stranger present.

After spending sometime speaking to Daija Jack nudged her on the shoulder. "Come you must be tired, I'll show you to a den." Smiling he led her to a quiet niche in the forest when he deposited her in the den, his heart warming at the sight of her on his lands safe at last. He knew this is what Liar would've wanted. Licking her muzzle he bade her farewell until she woke up and headed back into the packlands. He spotted Yana just as he was leaving her and his smile grew wider. "She's back Yana, but resting for now. Come, lets see what the pack is up to." With that the tri hued hessian trotted past his packmate and into the sparse forest. Just then he saw his mate form coming towards him and he met her anxiously licking her face. Nuzzle her neck her murmured similar words as he had when he spoke to Yana. "You will see her soon enough dear, give her some time. Come. Lets see the children." Jack barked a few low yips just as a general call out for his pack to see where they were. They had all been stagnant too long and it would do them good to be together as a family.
Alta's tail instantly began to wag when Red suggested they go find their father. Of course she wanted to go see him! And mother as well! Where had she gone off too for so long? She had been so caught up in the game she hadn't even thought about it. Leaping to her feet as her brother bade her to come and squealed in delight but before she could get anywhere she heard the low familiar voice of her father calling the pack to check in. "Red! I heard him! C'mon!" And she nipped at the brus legs in urgency to get him to go faster. "And I smell Mom!" She beamed proud of herself that she was starting to get this scent thing down. Most the time she had no idea where it was coming from.

Yana smiled at this news, and responded, "That's good." And probably stronger from the experience, even if it worried Jack and Calypso. Some things could only be learned from experience, but at least the price wasn't Daija being gone for good. He followed Jack, once again pausing in his steps as Calypso approached. The calm was nice and good for the pack, but he always did miss the chaos in the end. Did the others in the pack feel that, too, or just him? A side effect of the headaches, perhaps. As long as he didn't go any more crazier then normal, he could deal with it.

"Ok, ok, I'm going! Don't get your tail in a twist," Red laughed and he got to his feet, feeling Alta nipping at him in impatience. Seeing Caspian ahead of them, he smiled as he headed in the direction of Jack's howl, keeping to a light run. He wasn't going to give these younger wolves incentive to call him old yet. There was still some fire in him yet, and he planned to keep it that way for as long as he could.
He slowed to a stop, seeing Jack and Calypso present, Yana already lingering nearby. Smiling a greeting at them, he glanced around, knowing Caspian and Alta weren't far behind, and probably right behind him. The alphas looked better than they had earlier, so perhaps things were looking up for them.

Alta giggled as she raced through the trees for what felt like miles but to the adults was only a short distance away. Bounding over plants and rocks she tumbled once but with the resilience of a pup bounced right back to her feet and kept running. She wouldn't let Caspian beat her! She could see her Dad now and she felt a happiness blossom in her chest and there too was Mother! Red had gotten ahead of them and she ran between the brus legs now and then over to Yana where she playfully nipped one of his legs in an affectionate manner before launching herself at her parents. "Momma! Dad!" She called excitedly. She looked up at them her tail wagging furiously. She knew that Caspian was likely to bowl her over at any moment with all her attention looking up but she didn't mind.
Jack's grin was large as Red and his two children burst from the foliage, his daughter performing a loop of the pack and ending up in front of him. Laughing he leaned down and licked his child waiting for his son so that he could greet him as well. Looking up at Red he nodded his head. "Thank you for watching them Red, I hope they didn't beat you up too much." A chuckle and then he looked at Yana and then back to Red. "It seems that Daija has returned, though for the moment she is resting. It is good tidings for my heart. But for now I thought it be good to gather the pack." Jack didn't have anything specific to say to them besides that Liar's daughter had returned but wolves as ever were social creatures and he enjoyed being around his pack.

And that is indeed what Caspian did!! He bowled over his sister, though not too roughly, with a yip and a giggle. "MAMA! DA!" He yip yelled and bounced all over the place as his tail whipped like the jolly roger on a windy day. "Red is so much fun to play with!" he said happily and then ran around in circles. He was happy to see his parents looking happier. It had been a while since that feeling of grief had left the air.

Calypso laughed and wagged her tail and felt a joy in her heart. Perhaps now they could get back to normal. Things here had been so hectic....then the death of Liar...and now Daija's return....things were looking up! She looked to Red and Yana and beamed them both a smile. "Thank you Red. The pups do love playing with you." Her dark tail waved gently before she looked back to her mate who seemed more at ease. For a while there she thought she was going to loose him to the grief.

But the brute said nothing in return. Jackie halted, holding her head tall, though she held no official rank within the pack yet. Regardless, she was a member and sister of the Captain, and thus she would take it as her honor to protect his lands. "Ye be warned if ye enter with ill intentions," she said simply, green eyes glinting like the flash at sunset. "We may turn the other cheek when it comes to past misdeeds, but we will not spare your life if you take one of ours." There, those were words she could leave him with. He was hard to read, given his silence, and thus she would leave it as it was. He had the freedom to turn back, now. However, the scent of the storm on the wind blew again, and she knew that there wasn't a whole lot of time left for adventure. If the storm was coming, they would have to batten down the hatches and prepare. "I am Jackie, by the way. Follow me if you are to parley with the Captain, or else scram," she snorted offhandedly and shrugged.

She turned back the way she had came, the surf having risen since she first came out here. The foamy water now washed up to her ankles, flooding the golden sand between her toes, clinging to her darkened fur. It seemed that the seasons throughout the rest of the world had no effect on these pacific waters. That was all right, though. She wasn't built for snow and dreaded the thought of the cold. She had been to the Arctic once, had boarded a Germanic vessel that detoured north, and had become lost in the process. The human crew became stuck in the ice for at least a month. She had managed to slip out the back and found shelter amongst a native pack, who took her in and fed her with the warmth of caribou and winter pheasant. They had been a strange bunch, traditional and other-worldly, but kind enough to give her a place to stay. There had even been a strong and silent hessian there who had captured her heart in that wintry tundra, but of course, they were polar opposites; then again, that is what had caused such a fire between them in the first place. The Arctic was not her place, though, and the humans dug themselves out, and departed for warmer waters. She could still remember his mysterious amber eyes, obsidian coat hiding coil upon coil of raw muscle, and the softness of his voice like that of a gentle stream. His name was Naktuk, a name that still made her heart beat fast and her insides tighten. But all of that was not to be...

The family had gathered since she had last seen them. Calypso was smiling now and the whelps were romping about, which was a good sign that they were recovering. She approached and nuzzled her brother's shoulder, looking to both him and his mate. She caught the look that Calypso gave him, and smiled. She could see that the woman truly loved him. It was pure and it was honest... Something Jackie herself wasn't sure if she was capable of. "How are things?" she asked, tail wagging. "Better, I hope?"

Calypso looked up at Jackie, Jack's sister. It was an odd notion to get used to but it was a welcome one. "Getting better. Everything does with time Jackie." She said smiling and looked over at her playing pups. So proud she was of them and yet she regreted the fact that they weren't born with the salt spray of the ocean in their nostrils. These times were hard...and it was wearing. Poor Jack taking the brunt of everything.

"Not too rough..." She cautioned her pups lightly to play with eachother nicely....but in reality they needed to be strong so when they got a little rough again she said nothing. Looking back at Jackie she took a breath. "How are you faring here with us Jackie. I know we are very grateful to have you here. Were you planning on staying long?"

Calypso's response was uplifting. Jackie wagged her tail and smiled, glad to see that things were in moving into good spirits. This was the way of the pack by the sea. The ability to forgive, let go, and begin anew. An old philosophy that it seems her brother had carried over. "Aye, I believe I shall," she replied, watching the pups romp and wrestle. "Moral support 'n' all. Me brother's gotta have a first mate somewhere, eh? I mean, besides yourself." Her words said this, but as with the endless number of waves crashing on the beach, there was her endless love of the sea. It called her name, a whisper on the salty breeze, yearning to pull her in for more adventure. But for now... She needed to be on land. Stay grounded. There were pirates out there hunting for her hide, and she knew she was safest here, amongst a crew she knew.

"How is me brother, Calypso?" Jackie asked softly, as not for the pups to hear. "I know he broods. He's a stubborn lubber like that. Do you or him need any help with duties? I enjoy the work, y'know. Pup-sitting, hunting, alliances, you name it." It was the least she could do. While there were packs in which she was a freeloader, finding the most attractive male and exploiting him for his riches, this was different. She was to earn her stay. Jack would have done the same for her.

OOC: Decided to keep Jackie. She has so much character, and she is actually very fun and flexible for me to write. And, if we're going to be expanding the Pearl, I think she'd be good support - welcoming newcomers and the like.

Calypso smiled at Jackie's response. "Good." she said happily. She thought Jack had really benifited from her appearance. They all had really. Especially the children. She was so good with them. She chuckled at the first mate comment. "Of course Jackie." Her tail thumped happily. "We are so glad to have you here. It's so nice having another you can trust."

She perked her ears forward as Jackie asked of Jack. "He seems to be doing well. It's been very hard on him." Her gaze flickered in the direction she instinctively knew Jack was. 'He has been broody but that is normal for him. Any help would be appreciated Jackie. Just in the daily runnings. Hunting. Scouting...anything to help take the weight off of him. He tends to want to do it all himself and that isn't good."

He laughed at the antics of the two, nodding in appectance of the thanks of both alphas, saying, "It's good to play with them. It helps their growth and de-stresses us." Perhaps he was gently hinting for the alphas to have some good chunk of time for fun when they were next allowed. Duties of the alphas always came first, but always having stress on their backs wouldn't help the pack, either.

It was good to see Alta and Caspian happy as well. It was even better to hear Jack's news. Perhaps things will be looking up and the pack will expand.

He nodded at the news, amused by the entrance of Red and the pups, the latter still looking quite energetic. In a way, that was good, because it meant their endurance levels were high. Living in the desert for a time might have helped. The constantly shifting sands under the paws and general weather conditions did force one to adapt, especially to those so young.

He heard a call from the edges of the pack, an ear flicking, and he looked to Jack and Calypso questionably, waiting to see if one of them wanted to send anyone in particular.

Jack nodded his head in agreement with Red. Pups were healthy for the pack. He felt pride right down to his when he looked at his pups. Though it did dishearten him that there were not more pups around. Their pack was a small one and he was hoping to make it grow. The Pearl had always struggled with their numbers, many were not accustomed to living off the coast. He could understand why. Though in truth he loved his home and would never leave the sea. His eyes tracked his son barreling towards them and in typical sibling fashion mowed down Atla. This only caused him to laugh again. He sniffed his son in greeting and then addressed both of them. "Now I need to call the pack, though most are already here. Feel free to help" He smiled playfully at them before throwing his head back and howling. He howled in short bursts indicating that the pack should join for an announcement. A few more things needed to be said and one of them was important. Cutting it off he was pleased to hear his children chime in. Atla's high voice mingling with her brothers. He glanced at Calypso his love and pride flashed in his eyes, his heart growing strong at the sight of his family.

There had been some going-ons in the rest of the lands that he had caught wind of. There was also a larger announcement...but he would wait until he had everyone's attention. He noticed his ever proper daughter, tongue out tail wagging, trot over to her mother where she plopped down between her legs.
