Odin paced along the edge of the water, his mind wandering. There was so much going on of late, hectic activity in the pack, his mother's ambitions soaring to the roof of the world. Here he found what little solace there could be had in a dark pack such as this. He was nearing maturity now, his body was thick like his mother yet lean like his father. Yes a perfect blend of his famous parents. He snorted to himself at the thought. He felt restless of late, Akira assured him it was growing body but he could never be sure. There was always such turmoil inside he could never be sure that what was true of others would be true for him.

Stepping forward he put his paws in the water just enough to feel the cool water seep between his toes. He didn't bother to look at his reflection, such matters were of little consequence to him and better left to the females. He had thought little in the way of mates but figured none would want one with his eerie visage. Also considering he had bigger things to worry about like his mother murdering him in his sleep. It had passed his mind a time or two to go for the old witch himself but it was not the time and he was not sure that he was meant to be that black angel.

Letting out a huff he let his thoughts wander for a time. He heard a crunch of leaves underfoot and he turned his head to see the company...

She stared back at him like one would at a ghost. He struck her as familiar, but different at the same time, and it was this strange familiarity that drew her in closer. She had been wandering, wandering for quite a while through the country, uncertain if she was searching for someone or escaping the cacophony of her own pack. There were many things that had to be done, plenty of responsibilities on her silver shoulders, but like all things, they would eventually come, as they would also eventually go. The cycle of life and death, and all of its souls trapped in between, was something she knew very intimately for someone so young, perhaps not much older than the wolf that stood across the creek from her.

She tilted her head with curiosity. "Who are you?" she asked, though she had the strong feeling that these were his lands, and they should be words that he was asking her. Formalities had never been her strong suit, but the consequences had never stopped her.

A she wolf stood at the edge of the clearing and Odin shifted his body immediately to face her. His head tilted but he did not loose a growl. She stared at him in such a way to make him pause and consider. Even still, any wolf could tell by his bearing whose terra this belonged to. He sized up the silver wolf tilting his head slightly. When her voice cut through the clearing, sharp and to the point, his ears fell back for an instant. He felt himself bristle inside at her tone, felt his inner male rise up to the challenge. Instead he quelled it and kept a sharp gaze on her allowing a few thick moments to pass before he responded. "Odin is my calling stranger, what she wolf is so brave to travel alone here hmm?" His tone, meant to be ominous, held a playful edge to it, he had to admit for some reason this she wolf had piqued his interest. Her eyes held ghosts, and she stared at him with....something that stirred him.

He wondered if she even knew where she was, if she roamed in from the lone lands or was seeking a pack. She did not look particularly...sandy as some did when they ventured through the waste land. His ear flicked in an absent way, seeking any signs of his packmate, knowing once another arrived it was bound to be much snarling and snapping.

She had startled him. Unintentional, but unavoidable. Her footsteps had been soft at her approach, lightly dusted with snow from the mountains she had swung around to reach these higher peaks, now standing across the icy creek. She could see his eyes search for hers, but they became lost, uncertain as to where she was from. This was echoed in his words.

"Bravery has nothing to do with how I arrived here," she replied, catching his mocking tone, but also the warning within it. "I followed a trail on the wind, thinking I could find someone, but found something else instead." Yet, it was not the scent that brought her down to the water's edge, but a force. A dark, malevolent disturbance that stirred a demon in her chest and made it hungry, like some ancient call. The instinctual side told her to run. The rational side told her to stay and seek the source. Either way, she was now faced with a wolf that was familiar with the landscape, but he was also familiar to her in the way that she couldn't place. It was as if she had stepped into an alternate realm.

Lavender eyes gleamed silver as she cast a quick glare at him, before he could pass judgement on her actions. "Don't think I'm an idiot. I'm not lost," she quipped, casting a glance at the higher mountains. Dark clouds were gathering and heavy with snow, despite the warmer season of the year.

Odin could see her pride in the line of her back, the set of her shoulders. It was something that would normally set him on edge but again he could not help his sense of intrigue. Her lyrics tripped off her tongue in almost a high pawed way but then it was no less than he expected. There was always a show to put on, always. Once she finished speaking he again let her words settle in the dust, the air pregnant around their exchange. "Ah, so I am to be relegated to a thing now am I? Not a creature of flesh and blood, a creature worthy of being someone?" With that he stepped forward, advancing on the she wolf. He wondered if she would shy from his advance? No, he did not think she would. A low growl rumbled in his throat, her words not directly arrogant but flippant in nature was not what had brought on his growl. Cocking his head he pinned her with his good eye, tone sharper then the playful edge he had before. "I did not ask if you were lost, I asked for you name vix, I shall have it if you wish to abide by my good nature." Something stirred in his veins as he drew close, stopping a scant few tail lengths away.

Her scent filled his nostrils, feminine and sweet. He wondered at her game, there were many jokers who thought to ply their madness on this pack. Much to Akira's amusement many such wolves fed the soil and bellies of maggots. "I would think you an idiot if you did not give it." Truth was he was more than curious about who she was. He felt something buzzing in the back of his head and his gifts were blessedly silent for the time being.

Sharp, silvery eyes glanced at him, pulling her away from her look at the mountains. "I wasn't talking about you," she said coldly, inhaling as she did so, the thick scent of fresh death flooding her nares. There was a kill of something nearby, carried by the increasing wind, pressure from the storm above them. "But you are interesting," she replied in a milder, quieter tone. Something about him was intriguing. The way he walked, as if stepping on ashes, or even the cadence of his voice that was so... familiar. Like the shape of his form, the look in his eyes, or the way that talking to him reminded her of someone she should know, but couldn't put her paw on.

"My name is Whisper. What do they call you?" she asked, tilting her head as he approached. She remained still, relaxed, knowing that he was taking her scent in. He was now close enough that she could smell his, strong and crisp, like fresh frost over autumn leaves. She watched as he regarded her with one eye, and she wondered what the other could see.

Odin's ears cupped forward to listen to  her words. He noticed that she did not react in any particular way to his semi aggressive behavior. Which was strangely pleasing in the regard that her reaction was not born of arrogance either. He would never admit it, maybe not even to himself, but when she commented that he was interesting his blood spiked. Felt heat fill his cheeks and creep along his veins. Whisper her name was. 'How appropriate' he thought whimsically. A whisper on the wind this fem seemed to him. As if she would ghost off into the woods and never be seen again. He felt her attention on him but somehow knew her mind was truly far away. It was something he felt keenly himself, what with his enhanced abilities.

Abruptly so that he would not fidget under her steady regard he sat. Just as easy as that any tension coming off of him dissipated and he too took a look at the mountains. Reaching monoliths to the ever cloudy sky above. Though he looked he was intensely away of this fae. It was obvious she was not here for trouble... at least if she was it was not in this moment. "My calling is Odin, I am prince of this mountain range." He did not speak it as if bragging, merely stating his position here. No doubt if she was not lost and truly knew where she was then she did not need him to tell him the implications of  his title. Spawn of Akira, Queen of darkness. Queen of the damned. He tensed irritated at the thought of his mother, but it soon passed.

Still looking away he pursed his lips before continuing. "Is there something I can help you find?" Unsure of which way to pull the conversation he did not feel like giving her the same old interrogation routine.

That was it. She knew it, now, and it sent a piercing warmth so intense through her heart, it took her every nerve not to flinch. She had mastered her body's internal reactions, quelling the darkness inside, sealing it with a cold, external casing, like a moth does as it molts. But this young male, who could have been the same age as her, give or take a year, was the striking resemblance to him, and she had to pause and wonder if she had stepped into an alternate realm. Yet, this male - Odin - was also different. He did not have the smoky scent of charred bark and burnt leaves, nor the passionate ferocity of adolescence. No, he was... He was like her. Cool, inquisitive... silver.

Her nares flared, inhaling the brisk air as he asked if he could help. "I think so," she replied, studying him, noticing his shoulders relax and tense quickly. She would never understand why she made others feel the way they did, but as he came near, she knew that he was curious, not threatening. She tilted her head with interest towards him. "Something dead is nearby. I want to take a look at it," she stated very matter-of-factly. The request was odd on her tongue, and to want to see a kill in someone else's lands was stranger still. Strangeness was something she had grown accustomed to, but she knew that her peers still struggled with it, and Odin likely would have as well. If anything, it was suspicious. Not wanting him to think that, she backed her statement up with reason.

"It may help me for what I've been looking for. I've been tracking someone that's made very... unique kills," she explained to him, but did not look at him. She instead looked upwind, where the metallic scent was coming from. "I find it... intriguing."

Once more he was intrigued that she thought he could help her. True it could be something mundane like directions but he was sure that it was nothing of the sort. What followed was nothing less than he predicted and as soon as she spoke of dead things he gaze once more turned to  her. Watching her keenly he saw that she realized her statement was lacking and he need not prod further as she continued. Tilting his head in question he wondered what type of mystery this was turning out to be. So she was searching for someone who made strange kills. Stranger still that she sought them on this land. Now what wolf would be fool hardy enough to be making kills in their terra? And why did she find this intriguing? Did that mean she did not already know this mysterious someone?  Considering her he rose up to his feet and causally stretched. "Very well, I believe I am intrigued also now. I smell no dead things, though that doesn't mean there aren't dead things to see." He looked meaningful around the forest wondering if he could discern the direction...."Lead on lady, surely you'll have no trouble now with my escort." He paused taking point, ready to follow her lead.

"Thank you," she replied with a tilt of her head. She may have been cold to social interactions, but she knew the right way to go about those she knew she should respect. With Odin now at her side, she lead the way through a young stand of bristly pines, coated with autumn frost, and down a somewhat steep slope. Iron-colored slate jutted out at strange angles and pitches, as if it were a king's crown that had come tumbling down and buried. There was nothing like this in the lands that she had been so far, and she was careful to tread over the earth, as if she were walking on ashes. With the way the wind howled like a lost soul, the increasing snow shifting between the trees, and the smell of death growing stronger in her nares, her lavender eyes would remain vigilant.

"There," she said in a deadpan, stopping just short of the depression's bottom, the carcass of something large and bloody lying with its entrails out. "Do you see it?"

Upon closer inspection, it was a young stag, his tan hide hardened with the cold and dusted with snow. What was strange about it, however, was that there were no teeth or claw marks to drag him or tear him down. His belly was split open, but nothing was taken. Even his heart was still in tact. What perplexed her the most, however, was all of the flesh - skin, tissue, muscle, and eye - were stripped clean from the left side of his face, bony skull left up for the world. She came close, but did not touch the carcass. He was a victim of something terrible. That much she could tell.

She glanced at her companion. "Do you know of any creature that does this sort of thing?"

Following the young femmora Odin observed her subtly. It was clear she was not used to such terrain as this and he found himself amused by the way she gingerly cast her way forward. He also wondered how she would know how and where to find this dead creature but it was not like he did not hold secrets himself. Having resigned himself the course he trooped alongside her, watching her feet carefully so that she would not fall. The journey down a slope and before she indicated the carcass he had smelled it. Could see the crows lurking hungrily in the trees. He was a bit amazed that none had come forward to claim the defenseless kill.

Closer now and his attention was fully on the carcass. He observed what she observed. The lack of flesh missing, the face the only thing truly marred on it. It was a big stag, a healthy one and not one that would be the first choice in a hunt. They may be savages but they knew where and how to cull a herd. This bull was not the first the pack would have picked. Stepping closer her began to sniff around the carcass. The scents he found were an unusual blend and what he found interfering the most was the stench of feat that ingrained itself in the carcass. His brow furrowing he cast his look at Whisper. "It was alive the whole time...." How odd, how did the killer manage to do this without someone overhearing. Surely there was some patrol in this side of the woods when the kill took place. Stranger still was this something he should report to  his mother? Surely she would like to know the unknown beast who was slaying on her lands.

"I confess I have never seen the like of this in my time here. But surely I am not the world weary traveler that some are....In a way." He added the last bit absently because surely enough he had his own unique journeys though maybe not across land. "What manner of beast did this? Is it a wolf?" His curiosity burned now.

A chill not from the wind or  cold tingled down her spine. The stag had been... alive, and somehow had survived the entire process. She glanced at her companion, who did not shy away from investigation, his own brow furrowed. "If it's not a wolf, then it's a monster," she replied, seeing that he did not know. She circled the carcass, trying to find any kind of hint as to what could have done this. "I don't believe in monsters, though," she continued. "I've been tracking these kills for weeks. They're all the same: young, healthy animals, usually prey, but I've seen foxes and coyotes, too. I just wonder when it will move onto us. It never stays in one place, but will make a kill everywhere it goes."

She raised her head and looked directly at him now, silvery orbs sharpened by the falling darkness of the woods around them. "I want to determine where it will strike next," she said aloud, her heart thumping in her chest, a sleeping monster all her own. All it would take is a little blood to awaken. "And I believe that it has chosen these lands to do so. Your lands."
