| Morgan's ears flew up at the gunshot. His heart pounded in his chest, and he knew immediately something terrible had happened. "Cinder... What was that?" It was a stupid question. Of course they both knew what it was. "We have to get moving. Link!" He called loudly. The danger had already arrived. The barking reached his ears. They would be found eventually. But that was just him assuming the worst. "Braeden!" Tom's shouts were produced at a whisper. He followed her scent as quickly as he could, but there was a limit to the speed his joints would allow. He had to look up, but was losing track of where she was going. And that human's scent was getting awfully close. He pinned his thorns back in dismay, not wanting to run into what the others had made to sound like something terribly awful. And on top of that, he had to catch Braeden before she caught the two-legger, or they were all done for. He called her name again, but stopped. Something was horribly wrong. Another scent, not any of their own, had mixed on the trail. Not only was it close, it was fresh. He whined and backed up. Another dog? The human was on it, no doubt. He didn't understand exactly what it meant, but he knew it was bad. His nose had pressed against the ground, and he was drawing close. He was about to look up, and caught sight of Braeden. Finally. But the moment he looked up, the ringing of the gunshot, a sound new to his aged ears, resounding around him. "NO!" The sound would only come as a desperate bark. His gaze looked up, and he began to shake. The rapid, deep barks made him shake, and his eyes looked up to see the hunter's stick pointed at them. "Braeden... Braeden, run." He whispered. The human would only hear it as a whine, but it would be all he needed. His mind was going crazy. He didn't know what scared him more: the gun, an instrument that he had no idea what it could do, or the dog, miles taller than he, fangs bared and ready to kill. He did the only thing he could do now. His fur stood on end and he hopelessly began to growl. There was no getting both of them out of this... The great grey beast snarled, snapped, but just barely tugged at her leash. She could at least control herself. The wild, earthen scent filled her nares, and she was even further pushed to homicide by the fresh blood on the ground. She didn't feel the least bit of remorse while her own kind lay bleeding on the earth. Her auds snapped back as Tom spoke, and she smiled with all teeth bared. "Start running, wild beasts. It's no fun for me if you just stand there." "I'm not going anywhere. Take your human home." The words were strange on his tongue. He had never had to say such odd things. He flinched when the dog lunged and the leash slackened. She clacked her jaws just inches away from his quivering nose. "Braeden," he said again, "Run."The wolfhound looked back at her human, whining for him to let her go. She couldn't wait to take her prey. And with one last tug of the leather cord, she was set free. Her huge body lunged for Tom, tackling him down. Her fangs lunged for his throat, but he managed to kick out at her stomach and move away. "Oh, you are a brave one. Think I'll be enjoying this kill.""And what makes you think you'll be making a kill today?""There's never a time when I don't."OOC: Leaving Rodion out. I'll leave it open for others to get in on it and catch up | |

| Braeden trudged along at a hurried and fretful pace, tail tucked between her legs, afraid of what she might find at the end her friend's trail. Suddenly she caught a glimpse of him through the undergrowth, and she barked to try and catch his attention. He stopped and looked back at her, and relief flood through her as she ran over to him. His tongue lolled from the side of his mouth and his hind end wiggled excitedly; then he made several more moves in the direction of the scent of human, and Braeden's eyes widened. She shook her head, fear encompassing her entire being. He continued to wag his stub tail, smiling at her, like he was trying to reassure her. But now was not the time. He moved forward again, and Braeden snarled. "No!" she growled at him. He kept moving, and she lunged for him with a frustrated bark. A sudden flurry of barking in response to her own voice spooked her, and her friend darted away as she stalled. Her brow furrowed again. He was going to get caught! She rushed forward, and all of a sudden, seemingly out of nowhere, the human was in sight no more than twenty feet away. The barking came from near him, quite loud and threatening. She'd come this far, though, and she couldn't turn back. Her friend was going to be captured. She was about to leap for him again and pin him down to stop him, but a sudden, deafening clap of stacatto thunder made her drop to the ground, her heart frozen for several moments until silence settled over the area. She silently crept forward, spying her friend motionless upon the ground; a massive, open wound replaced his entire shoulder, and blood was splattered over his pelt and the surrounding grasses. What had just happened? This was not a trap - there were no chains, nets or needles. There was blood. Like some canine had taken their teeth to the dog's shoulder and ripped it to shreds. But no dog was that fast, and the smell of burning metal filled the air. Braeden's paws were firmly against the earth, but she felt like she was spinning, about to hit the ground any second. This couldn't be happening. An instant death? Something she couldn't even fight? In her shock of the moment Braeden did not even realize that the barking had not ceased, and heavy pawsteps were drawing closer by the second... Ooc- Time for mr. wolfhound? I think so O.O | |

| Cinder
Cinder's ears flicked back at the sound of the breaking twig. Then she heard Morgan's voice and nodded following him through the water. She hoped the human wouldn't hear the splashing. Then up on the bank she went and looked curiously as Morgan dragged their tracks. Good idea...she thought to herself. She licked her nose to draw in more scent. Surely Link couldn't be too far off. Another branch snapping. Cinder's silver eyes looked back and her ears pinned. "Hurry..." she said soflty and trotted out smelling for those bits and pieces of Link.

| Rodion's talons gripped the earth. He looked to Fran as she spoke, acknowledging her words. And then the counsel came that he was looking for. Zelda spoke her words to him. She seemed rather irritated with him. His eyes followed her pads as they scored the ground. Yes, that would suffice, he supposed. "If moving is best, then that is what we'll do. I was thinking about the same. We have to get away while we can. As for Morgan, he is checking on Link and Cinder to be sure they're safe and aware of our problem." He headed forward a few steps, then stopped. A distant fury with the whole situation at hand reflecting in his pupils. His voice sounded ahead of him, gaze away from his friend now. "And for the record, If I had any less faith in him, Balthier, or Tom, I wouldn't have allowed any of them to leave." His cranium turned to face them, but met Zelda's gaze with a smirk. "So wipe that fretted look off your face and let's hurry." His tassel shot up, flagging the way, and he proceeded forward once more to see Zelda catch up to his side. Now was a time for him to lead and them to follow. No questions, no conditions.Morgan stopped at the water's edge. Oh, he had heard the twig break beneath the two-legger, and sniffed desperately for Link. "No..." He looked behind him, auds tight against his head. His coinscaught Cinder's, and a determined look crossed his features. "Follow me." His large bod pressed into the cold water, but the shock of it was the least of his problems now. He looked back at Cinder again. "Follow in my wake. It'll be easier to beat the water's rush." He moved across, quickly reaching the other side. Sure enough, not too far off to his left, the remains of Link's wet pawprints led the way, and the vague leftovers of his scent, the bits of him that stayed dry, drifted off into the air. "Here!" He called as loudly as he dared. They were a good lead, but this was a risk. Their prints would lead the hunter straight to them. He moved a bit further down stream, grabbing hold of some fallen pine. They would have to drag it, eliminate their tracks in the dirt. For now he waited, branch in his jaws as he desperately held still, waiting for Cinder's arrival.OOC: Post Tom and the wolfhound in a while. | |

| Cinder
Cinder stopped at the bank. Link's scent was gone! Silver eyes widened with panick and a soft whine escaped her lips ever so slightly. She looked to Morgan and her ears pinned. She hoped they could find him in time. Cinder's ears perked behind them. She had heard a snap of a twig. She looked to Morgan. The human was fast approaching. "We have to find him Morgan....we have to." she said. ((yeah I dont' care if you bring in a big doggeh))

One who withholds wisdom...
Zelda was already alarmed by Rodion's demeanor as he came towards her swiftly and quietly. Fur bristled at the look in his orbs. He spoke to her of humans an she was on her feet in an instant. The recent chore forgotten. It was curious for Tom to be so ignorant of such a looming threat but her mind did not dwell to long on it. Morgan was gone and that concerned her. Surely rodion would want the pack to stay together for the meantime. Balthier then stepped forward and spoke of past excursions to a hunters camp. Then suddenly he desired to be off too. She frowned at this. Auds swiveling listen to the slightest noises. Then Balthier was off she watched his body go with growing apprehension. Link, Cinder, Exodus. Among the missing. Anxiety was growing in her stomach but she was not the sort to panic. But what was this? Tom too...she felt a deep pride when the elder wolf spoke his words and she locked eyes with him before he left and nodded respectfully. Looking now to Rodion conveying a deep sense of Despair over their wandering packmates she looked at those who were left...not many. "Now Rodion we move. Waiting will be the death of us. Under the cover of shadows and trees we shall go, the human may be dangerous but we are cunning. I shall not have anymore of my family harmed." This was said in a firm whisper. Stepping away from him she dragged her paw on the ground to indicate to any who came back her that they had gone.
"What direction did their scent rise from?" That would decide everything. Zelda knew this land inside and out. She had no doubt that Link would handle himself. "And where is Morgan?" She wished that he was here among the pack.

It was too late for Calypso to find Link. He had left his trail behind when he leapt across the bank in pursuit of prey, his scent disappearing in the rushing water. He traveled swiftly and stealthily not knowing now that he was among the hunted. | The other who withholds courage... |

| ((I'm cool with that)) Vaarak almost freaked out when Braeden suddenly ran past him, and towards her dog companion... to the hunter. He frantically looked around, immediately spotting his brother speaking to Rodion about going out to stop the human. When their alpha agreed, he quickly ran to Balthier, saying, "I don't want to leave you..." Balthier could see the relunctance of Rodion to agree, and nodded when he finished speaking. Suddenly, his brother was there, almost head-butting him in his haste. He sighed and affectionately nosed his brother in the side. "You need to stay here. You're the only one who I am sure will know what herbs are what." He gave a look towards the rest of the pack, but mainly Fran, that he was just saying this for his brother's benefit, which Vaarak didn't see. "I'll be ok, just like always." Then he suddenly smiled reassuringly, and added jokingly, "You know the lead wolves never die." Vaarak looked up at his brother at the last statement and actually laughed and nodded, promising to stay with the pack. With a nod at his brother, he turned towards the scent of the human and started running, determined on not dying. That was something his father would probably do, though. He snorted at the thought of the older wolf and pushed him out of his mind. He had taken a different course than Braeden took, trying to get behind the hunter without the human noticing him. Expecting he was closer now, he slowed to a quickened walk. All his previous 'adventures' increased his skill at being silent while following his quarry. Still, he knew that at the rate Braeden was probably running, she'd definately beat him there, making his first instinct to follow at the same pace or faster, but he hadn't known the other long enough to risk the whole pack for her. As cold as it sounded, the wolves he knew longer, as well as his brother, came before strangers. Vaarak was staring at the spot his brother ran off to, and kept watching, even after he'd long since vanished into the trees. Only Rodion's voice broke him from his wishes of his brother returning, and he immediately said, "Doesn't matter to me, but are the dens really that safe?" Fran titled her head at the exchange of words between everyone. She said, "If these... humans are able to track, wouldn't it be best to keep positioning ourselves so we're as far away as possible, or perhaps stay in places they can't get to us as easily?" He now knew enough that these humans are dangerous, but still didn't know just how much so they were... | |

| The alphen listened with care to Balthier, making sure to understand his reasoning clearly. He nodded in accordance with the plan, though the approval on his face was grim.. He knew he could trust this hessian's steady head and demeanor. He didn't seem like the type to go off on a daring rescue mission for the sake of theatrics and heroic reward. Just as well, Rodion didn't like that any of them had to go off alone, but it had to be done. And even in a group, they may have been strong enough to overcome the human, but none of them were swift enough to dodge the death those guns dealt. One was as likely to be caught by a stray shot in a melee as they were while off guard and solo. "Please take care while you're gone, Balthier. We'll be awaiting your safe return," His voice was low enough so as not to be easily caught, but no longer in the dry rush up a whisper. His tone came through clearly; He wanted him to know his emotions were true and not just empty words. "Udači," he muttered mostly to himself, wishing him luck. In times of stressed thought, he found it easier, though often involuntarily, to think aloud or speak in the tongue he knew best. But as soon as the word left his mouth, something far more dire caught his attention. "Braeden!" He hissed, immediately frustrated with this turn. The femme had gone running off. Granted, she seemed inclined to impulsive action and had no way to convey her wishes, but at a time like this? He knew immediately from her course that she was following her friend. 'Fantastic. Now they can both lead him straight to us,' His inner voice growled. This was no time for such rashness. He had to stay with his pack. He looked about his packmates with a rushed desperation. Fran had volunteered to keep to the pack, keeping health in check. Considering her lack of experience with humans, it was for the best. When it came to vaarak, he wanted to keep him here. He trusted him wholeheartedly, but the loss of a youth would have been a devastating one. There were many uses for him besides. Especially helping Fran if the need arose, Fenris forbid. Balthier and Morgan were out of the question. Exodus still hadn't shown aud or tail of herself in the vicinity. Zelda was his advisor, and he couldn't bear to risk her life, though he knew she would make her own decision and enforce it. As her friend, he would have no choice but to accept. There were some boundaries even an alphen did not cross. No Link, no Zelda. He growled to himself. In the split second these names and options crossed his mind, the voice he had dreaded most spoke up."I'll follow," Tom suggested strongly. Rodion wanted so much to answer no, and yet the hessian wanted to make himself useful. With half a heart, he sighed."Please, I'd much rather you stayed. I don't want anyone else's life to be risked here.""Rodion, I know you're my leader." Tom's eyes, normally so wam and full of understanding, were now hard, more like stones. He rarely had to get so serious with anyone, but it was a choice he was dead-set on making. "I respect you down to the last hair under your pad. But I am going to follow Braeden. I've hardly done anything in this pack, and whether I'm told to or not, it's for y old age. Well I'll tell you what. I've been around a lot longer than you have, and seen plenty more things. No amount of authority will change that, and no amount of words or teeth or claws or anything you put to me to stop me will work. I plan on coming back with her and her friend safely. I won't let her go to him, and I won't let them bring him to us." He allowed for a brief pause to gather his thoughts before starting a ramble, and when Rodion didn't fill the silence, he continued. "I hope it won't, and I don't think it will, but if it means giving that human my fur in place of her life, then by Fenris's fire I'll let him have it."Face pensive, enthralled by Tom's willingness to stand up to him, Rodion's tongue took to his chops, passing over black lips as he mulled the words. He almost broke out into a smile. Rather, he sighed, hid it, and answered as only he could. "With those words, and your adacity, I can do nothing else but let you go. I have every faith in you. Age doesn't always matter. My father taught me that. And I should have considered better your abilities and desire to help. I truly admire you for your character, and I'm sorry." He felt relief when Tom gave a knowing nod, quick to forgive. "Now go," he gave the command, though now it wasn't much more than an urging sentiment now. His eyes followed keenly as the elder took off. As much blind faith as he put in him, he still worried deeply for him. So many things could go wrong. Just one miscalculated move that old joints wouldn't allow... He shook the thought away, looking to those left of his pack. "I know my preferred move. But with such a sudden change, I must ask the rest of you this: Do we stay here and wait for the others, or go to the dens and hope they make it? What would you feel best doing?" He would have felt best moving. The others knew where they would be. But if the others felt more comfortable waiting up to move, he would listen to their wishes. He went by the theory he had always been taught: A leader gives his followers the consent to be led. They can overthrow him at any time. It was his responsibility to keep them united and guide them. Under all other circumstances, he was to develop the best possible answer to their wishes and maintain their happiness. In such a situation, where death was a minute away, they had to be able to trust him to do what was best for them and trust him to meet their needs in such a dire circumstance.Morgan wagged his tail briefly in response to her. She asked him to hurry. It was all they could do at a time like this. Those sticks. He knew all about those. All two-leggers seemed to carry those around in the mountains he had called home. When she called for Link in louder tones, he winced, but knew it was only right for her to do so. He followed her in catching his scent, and accompanied her in following his trail. The bru stayed close by her side, silently assuring her of his protection. He knew she was anxious, and he would take as much away of that as he could. OOC: Hey, is it cool if I throw a wolfhound into this? Like the hunter's dog? Just a thought. If it's too much, don't be afraid to say. I just got my suddenly hyperactive muse back. | |

Cinder hugged the ground as someone came skidding across her path. She breathed a sigh of relief. It was Morgan. She nodded at his words. "We have to find Link..." she said in a stressed whisper. "The human is coming this way....he has one of those sticks..I saw it..." she said and stood straighter. "Hurry. Please." she said and nose to the ground picked up Link's scent again. "Link!" she called out as loud as she dared. She was frought with worry. It was in every line of her small body. She did know what two leggers could do and this human had wolf fur on his coat.

| Braeden looked to Rodion as he mimicked the word monsters, confusion on his face. Just as she had dreaded, he did not know what she was saying. She whimpered a few more times before the realization hit Rodion, and he acknowledged her fears. Humans? Was that their word for the monsters? It most certainly had to be. He hushed her and told her to stay, and she crouched down, forcing herself to stay quiet. The same command was given to Vaarak, but right now she was only mildly comforted by his presence. Her friend had gone off, and she had no idea what was going to happen to him. As Rodion went about giving orders, she became more and more worried. Nobody was going after her friend. Were they just going to let him be captured, or perish? A shiver ran through her body at the thought of confronting the monsters - no, humans - face to face. Would it be up to her? There was no way they could know of her past, nor her fear for the humans. But could she really face them alone? Then Rodion moved off, herself and Vaarak in tow. She glanced over her shoulder several times. None of the wolves that the Alpha had spoken to were heading in her friend's direction, and it was becoming more and more obvious that nobody intended to go after him, to help him or stop him in his tracks. He was going to be captured. Her heart raced violently and breathing increased, and she had a hard time keeping on her paws as she wondered for her friend's safety. The further she moved from him though, the more her eyes began to burn and her chest ached, a sensation she was unaccustomed to. But, slowly, she felt it tug at her heart strings, and suddenly, without a second thought, she allowed the feeling to control her. She separated from the group in a burst of speed lent to her only by fear and desperation, making a dash in the same direction her friend had gone. Her ribs peeked through her skin with every stride, and she felt unimagineably weak, but she couldn't stop herself. She couldn't let him go back to humans, not for anything. Nothing could ever be worth it to go back to those savage creatures. She swept through the forest with long, free strides, thinking nothing of the noise she made and the attention she drew to herself. She just had to find her friend. Why did he have to go off like this? Frustration burned through her veins and mingled with the fear to create a powerful, fearless energy that coursed through her body. When she found him, she would give him a swift, relentless beating for his carelessness before dragging him away by the scruff, if she needed to - if she had time. This was just not right. He couldn't do this to all of them, and to her. He of all canines knew what she had been through, and knew what he himself had gone through with the humans. He could not bring them back into that life, nor any of their new friends. What a cruel fate it would be if any of them should be captured. But if only she knew this was not just a matter of freedom, but a matter of life and death. She had never encountered hunters and guns, and knew not the human's true intentions for being here. Moving through the woods, she could see the broken path where her small friend had gone, and wondered how far he'd gone. The scent of human was stronger, and she suddenly froze in her tracks, exhausted and terrified. She needed to keep going for him, but... her tail tucked between her legs and she looked onward anxiously, doubt flashing through her mind. Maybe it was too late. Maybe they'd already caught him. Even if he hadn't been caught yet, what could she do if she went forward? They had chained and restrained her before, so what could possibly make this situation any different? How could she possibly defeat her most feared enemy, when they could so easily control her? Shaking her head, she moved foward ever so slowly, knowing she had to at least try... Ooc hehe drama. I stopped off there so others may catch up and get in on the action. But I did have a plan for some tragedy in the end, if nobody minds, but we'll see how it works out... XD | |

| Vaarak watched the interaction between Rodion and Braeden. He seemed very good at being able to convey his messages until she would eventually be able to understand al lthey said. Then suddenly, she looked frantic, talking about... monsters? He recognized the faint scent just as Rodion said humans. Quickly, the alpha was tryin gto calm Braeden down so they wouldn't be heard, and Vaarak straightened up as he was told to stay with her. He nodded and said quietly, "We'll move if the human comes too close this way. I learned how to avoid them from my brother." When they had left, he turned to Braeden and said gently and quietly, "Won't find if quiet." He used simple language, but not the single worded phrases she might be used to. Still... she might be able to pick up what he was saying. Plus, his quieter than normal tone might be a hint to her. He positioned himself closer to her, trying to give her extra comfort. He needed her in a non-frantic state if they needed to flee. Balthier looked up from his digging when Rodion came running, speaking to Zelda about humans. Then he heard Tom, and his eyes widdened. He'd known of wolves who were cared for by soft hearted humans and after Rodion's reply, Balthier added, seeing that Rodion might have stayed clear of human civilization all his life, "Tom, in ways humans are like wolves. Some wolves are kind, but others live to kill others. Some humans care about others. This human lives to kill others... us. He looked up, his trained nose almost instantly honed onto the human now that he realized one was in the area. Looking straight to Rodion, he said, "I've snuck near human camps before... Hunter camps," his eyes narrowed as he remembered the word. "He probably saw the signs of our living here. He, if he's stubborn, won't leave until we're found. I can steal the black killers and supplies," he was referring to the guns, as his brother had picked that name for the unknown weapons, "I won't let my brother get hurt with no escape while hiding." His gaze softened, "Besides, he and Fran are coming up nicely as healers. They know where my supplies are if any of the pack gets injured while I'm gone." His eyes hardened up again, as if saying he refused to back down. "I won't be reckless. My brother still needs me." Of course, what he said was true... mostly true... ok, partly true. He had snuck into hunter camps, but he stole when the humans were sleeping, never had he attempted when they were awake and alert. He did say he wouldn't let his brother get injured, but he also didn't want any of the rest of the pack injured. If he could possibly wound the human, he might leave. Despite his discomfort, he found he was glad he hadn't the chance to rise the earthly scent and debris from his fur. Even with his intent to lead the hunter astray, he still waited for Rodion's response; he was still the alpha after all. Fran was deepening the first indentation Zelda and Baltheir had made, and it was comming along nicely when she heard the word human. She didn't understand the need to hide. She grew up having vaugley heard of humans, but they'd lived in such a dangerous area, none had tried to hunt them. She had no experiences of being hunted, and like Tom, but for different reasons, was confused at what the problem was. Even when Rodion explained they were after their pelts, she was confused. They had fangs and claws, what did these humans have to make them so strong over wolves? Balthier looked worried about this human, though She said, "I'll go with the pack... I've never encountered a human and I don't understand the threat." Looking to Balthier, she said, "I'll watch the health of the pack until you come back." It was easy for her to believe the other wolf will come back safely, but probably not for some others.

| Rodion quietly observed Braeden, wondering if she would catch on to the creation of the dens, and learn a little more of what home meant. She seemed to be captivated by Zelda's singing, and it made him smile. He found it difficult to understand, and tried to wrap his mind around having never heard a song before. At least, that was what he gathered from her reaction. He motioned between the two, looking to Zelda and speaking her name as a way to introduce her, then humming a bit of her tune he had caught and said, "Song," Hoping she would catch his drift. His gaze followed her as she went to rest, in agreement with her deserved break. He could see the work going rather well for those helping, and was ready to join in. He was going to ask for Morgan and Vaarak's assistance, but his maw, open and ready to release the gentle command, snapped shut immediately. The little dog had gone running happily off, but there was something rather disturbing about the whole thing. It was the scent that he ran to. That smell - Braeden's cries cut his thoughts off now, as well as his words. 'Monsters?...' He struggled to recall the scent to mind as it turned in the chambers of his nares. He watched her desperate actions and tried to calm the femme. Clearly she had a fear of whatever this was. His pinnae went flat against his skull, mind straining to remember. His head lifted abruptly, looking to the woods, the source of the scent. "Monsters... Mo- Two-leggers. Humans!" His voice came in a hoarse whisper as he realized to himself what this was. That little dog would lead it right to them. Rodion lowered himself slightly to reach Braeden's eye level, making shushing noises with authority, but not to get her riled at him as well as the situation. His nose nudged her cheek in a desperate mark of friendship and trust. He hadn't known her long, but she needed comfort now."Hush. They will find us. Stay here."The alphen went into a completely different mode from that of his previous leisure. Amber coins looked to Vaarak first. "Stay with her," He ushered the command only once, sternly, then looked to Morgan. "Your paws are swift. Go tell the others to head for the old dens. Silently. We will at least have cover there. And for Fenris's sake, make sure Cinder and Link are alright." He watched as the bru nodded and took off immediately, no noise beneath his pads. Exodus, where was Exodus? There was no time for howls. He could only hope she would be found. If Morgan could recall where she had been last, it would be easier on them. After giving a last glance to Vaarak and Braeden, he moved quickly off to Zelda, crouching at her side. "Time to rise, friend. We have a problem." He looked around, able to see Balthier and Fran among them. Tom was close as well, and his old ears perked at his alpha's voice. "Human. We have to get away from here." He looked up at Tom's approach. The bru had caught on and kept his tones to a whisper. But they confused Rodion greatly."What's so bad about the two-legger?""Tom, what are you saying?" His eyes narrowed, peering at the elder. The Russian knew nothing of zoos or kind humans. At least he and Braeden had this in common."Where I come from, they fed us and were pretty nice."He could have vomited. Where had this old fool come from?"Not this kind. This kind comes for our pelts." He hated to say it, seeing the hessian's auds go back and eyes fill with despair."Oh... I'm sorry. I didn't know. What do we do?""The only thing we can, Tom, hide."Some of these humans could track. It was how others were killed. Wolves, he knew all too well, were not the only creatures who hunted. If this human was one of those, they could still be found. It buried itself in his mind as he waited for Balthier and Fran. They had to hurry. It may have seemed foolish to gather like sheep, but he would leave none of them behind. They needed to know what was to happen, and then if they had to, part ways. He tried to keep tabs of the pack in his mind. Was it possible he had met them all yet? He let it go, though naively. Word would spread. And yet those loud things, deadly sticks... guns he had heard them called. They could kill so many at once. He looked to Zelda, trying to find reassurance in her guidance before moving off, taking Vaarak and Braeden on the way. The little one would have to be left behind, but he regretted the thought. Morgan tore along the ground, and found himself panting at the densite. He carried himself to the den where Cinder and Link stayed, and when he peered inside, his heart fell. Nothing. He caught their scents at the outside and began to follow where they mingled at first, but soon came to realize they had parted ways for one reason or another. He circled for a brief moment, whining to himself in dismay. What to do? He had no clue if Exodus had stayed at the river, and he had no time to run and find out. He couldn't howl, unless he had a suicide wish. With a resigned huff, Morgan began to track Cinder's trail. She was his priority. Link could care for himself, and was much stronger than she, especially in these days. With luck, he would meet up with them. The scent grew stronger, as long as he stuck to the ground and foliage. She wasn't hard to find. The bru made sure not to leave any signs of his presence, bruised leaves and the like. His thoughts vaguely overlapped Rodion's. Some humans could track as well. The femme came into view, and she was calling her love's name. Morgan rolled his eyes. Of course she could understand her desperation, but nonetheless, he thought it was a bad idea to make so much noise. He was sure she understood the possible consequences of her actions, though. She wasn't stupid by any means. Putting on a burst of speed, he came to her with the loudest, most revealing action he dared to make, allowing his paws to skid as he tried to land himself in her path. "Cinder!" he whispered, "Rodion's having us move to the dens." He could tell she knew about the humans, so he didn't bother wasting time with the explanation. The fear was in her eyes. But he couldn't nurse it back to comfort now. "He worries after you." He caught Link's scent shortly after speaking, knowing now that he had been on the right path to finding both of them. "I'll come with you to find Link. But we have to get back. You and I both know what two-leggers are capable of." He gave her a serious look, gaze daunting. His affairs were set now: Find Cinder. Done. Next: Find Link. Get out. | |

| Braeden immediately perked her ears when she heard the word 'Come', knowing well the meaning of such a command. As Rodion started to move away, clearly insisting that she follow him, she moved forward humbly with little resistence though her heart beat increased, glancing to both Morgan and Vaarak hopefully. She let out a breath of relief, her tail moving vaguely in a wag, and continued onward, trotting after the Alpha. When they came upon a female who was digging, Braeden noticed that the femme paid them little mind to them, merely giving her a nod and continuing what she was doing. The hybrid sniffed in her direction, curious about her song; she'd never heard such a soothing melody before. Well, she'd never heard a song at all, and was intrigued, especially when Zelda kept her attentions elsewhere, her eye contact unlasting. She glanced to Rodion as he spoke a few low words to Zelda, then moved on past the first den that had been completed. All the while, Braeden and her little pal looked and sniffed at everything, though the smaller dog showed his curiousity more openly, and moved around more freely rather than walking in a stiff line behind Rodion like Braeden did. She did not stray from the path that the Alpha walked, afriad of what might happen. Her brow furrowed slightly in a look of concentration as a very familiar scent entered her nares, possibly the only thing she knew how to recognize. It was not long before her look turned from concentrated to fearful. She looked to the smaller dog, though he seemed not to notice a thing. She woofed demandingly at him. He looked at her and she sniffed the air, indicating for him to do the same. When he did, a look of recognition flooded his facial features, but his reaction was far from the one that Braeden had. Suddenly the smaller dog moved away from the group, apparent excitement written on his features, from the lolling-tongue smile to the wiggling hind end. Earthy orbs peeled wide as the dog suddenly dashed off, and Braeden felt her heart racing. Why? Why would he want to go back to them? How could he possibly trust any of them? She shook her head in dismay, and her legs began to tremble. A growl of disbelief and fear escaped her, and she stood still as a statue, her tail tucking under her body as she watched her friend disappear. What should she do? Her gaze snapped toward Vaarak, then Morgan, and finally Rodion. He was their leader. He was her leader now also, she suspected. She must tell him. Whining, she wondered if he could understand. "No," she said, looking at Rodion, then glancing in the way her friend had gone, "No, no! Monsters! Monsters!" She looked back to Rodion, clawing the ground. The word human was unfamiliar to her. She could not tell them in a way they might understand, that there was a human in their lands. In her days of darkness, living in chains on concrete in the pitch black, she had heard only savage words, and the monsters had been associated with it all - they had been the cause of everything, of every pain, misfortune and mistrust. Even the fighting, the starvation, the battles for life. The monsters were the ones that controlled everything; they controlled the chains, light and dark, food and hunger, pain, suffering. She knew nothing of humans, the compassionate, peaceful beings who walked upright. She knew only the monsters, the upright savages who's thirst for bloody entertainment and merciless experiments was unending. Wide, frightened eyes moved quickly between her most recent friends, wondering if they understood, or if she was just screaming at them without purpose. Could they possibly know what was going on? Did they even know the scent? Would they recognize it amongst all the others? Braeden had realized it immediately, for every other scent was unfamiliar and meaningless to her, while she knew the scent of the monsters without a doubt. Twitching and pacing nervously, she waited to see what would be said or done. Ooc - I hope this is acceptable. I figured I needed to give my chars something to do, and this seemed to fit quite nicely, I think. | |

Cinder raced. It wouldn't be a problem getting ahead of the human, but she had to do it silently. Her body ached sore from her attack and sore from non-use. She stopped her run to take in the scents around her. The wind was wrong so she couldn't smell the human...but wait..she drank the air more deeply. "Link.." she said softly and started her sprint once more. His scent wasn't old but it wasn't as if he passed mere moments ago. She pushed herself...."Link" she called softly. Not daring a bark in case the human would hear. She didn't want the two legger to know they were there. "Link!" she half whined and bolted for the creek. Her padfalls swift but silent as she ran. "Link!" she dared a louder call. Her silver eyes round with worry.

Zelda turned her dial when Rodion approached her and her eyes flicked to the fem that was behind him and nodded but otherwise kept her humming going. She could feel the sweet melody weaving a song of comfort and vigor in her veins. Wounds to be healed.....Balthier joined her and she nodded her dial when Fran came over to join as well. In a natural break in the song she nodded and said "That would be great Fran." Then continued humming until finally it hit a conclusion and she let it taper off, thrown to the wind which carried the notes above the trees and into the clouds for Fenrir to enjoy. Finally when there was a good indentation to the whole she stepped back and stretched. "I think a rest is in order." Shaking off her pelt as best as possible she reclined on her haunches and began to neatly clean her pads of any rocks and the like stuck in the crevices. Annoyances.

He had traveled quite a ways since he left Cinder in his search for sustenance. Creeping along one of the river banks in search of creatures who would come here to drink, he did not see any immediately. Continuing along in the cover of the brush he blended in nicely with his tri-hued coat. Pads were silent on the soft soil near the bank and he knew that it was narrow enough here that he could leap over to the other side if need be. Aud flicked, he imagined that he heard padfalls falling fast, as if someone was running, but listening again he did not hear it. Shrugging it off as his imagination he continued on. Muscles coiled in anticipation of springing upon some unknown prey.

| Vaarak watched Rodion, just noticing how Braeden relaxed when he came back. Balthier's words came back to him, and he felt a bit guilty. When Morgan told him they should start off. Nodding, he glanced to their new friend, and smiled, trying to convey that she was safe. He glanced to his brother, who was busy helping the pack start digging dens. This was no time to be thinking about that, though. He turned back to the direction Rodion headed in, and pausing to see if Braeden would follow before he himself moved. Balthier really wanted to wash himself off; some dirt clung to his coat and he never liked that feeling. But, there was no point, yet, since there was still more digging to be done. As they finished the indentation, Zelda motioned that they should start another. She started to hum while digging, and wondered whos benefit it was for, if any. He, too, started to dig, not speaking. Rodion was talking to Braeden, and apparently was showing her what home was, or at least, home in this pack's context. Despite still not being too used to his brother being away from his side, it would be good for both of them, especially for Vaarak. Fran watched the two dig indentations, and when they moved away from the first one, she stepped closer to it, and said, "I will start deeping the holes, if you wish, Zelda." She didn't really want to stand around being useless while the others were busy.

| The alphen was shocked to see that Braeden didn't know what home meant. Truly, she must have come from something horrible. The cogs of his mind turned slowly, carefully, as he continued to assess the situation. He knew she would have to be accommodated and shown around. He would get right to it. Rodion's eyes shifted to Vaarak and Morgan, twitching to show his intent of moving on. He wanted them by her side so she would feel safer here. "Come," he was sure she would know the word, "I'll show you." His form moved slowly, languidly, as one with an eloquence and elegance long practiced. He headed toward Zelda, humming as she dug. His honey smile passed over his lips but he remained silent as he watched her work. "I'll be to work in a moment. Seems like I'm getting quite the distraction." He looked up, waiting on the others to come close enough to speak again, and simultaneously moved by the first den finished. If she had to learn, she may as well start now.Morgan looked to his young friend. "Guess we'd best be off. Whatever the king wants..." He flickered a grin and looked to Braeden reassuredly. She had to know by now she'd be safe. The hessian wanted her to stay. To recuperate and find new friends here. If she could learn the language, she would fit right in. He knew the whole pack would be willing to help. The wolves he particularly had in mind were certain to bring her into their lives. Zelda was undoubtedly kind, and Tom would have something to do. He knew Vaarak was already willing to step up, and Balthier was plenty the helpful type. He could see Link in some sort of teaching position with her, showing her how to hunt if she didn't know how. He had the strangest feeling that she already knew how to fight. Cinder would make a good friend, once she got past the hump of her most recent problem. | |

| Cinder
Cinder pressed herself further into Link as he tucked her into the crook of his neck and then smiled when he kissed her head then muzzle. She licked her lips and the tip of her tail wagged soflty as she watched him go. Then a shiver went through her body. She was afraid but she knew that she couldn't keep Link at her side at all times . He would resent her then. She couldn't have that. Walking over to the edge of the trees she squatted and made water. The scent of her heat was all but gone and it struck a new fear in her that made her push the thought away. She then went into the den. Why her? Why did Legend have to do this to her. A tear rolled down her nose and she rubbed it away. She curled up in the furthest reaches of the den and willed herself to sleep to keep the fears at bay. It seemed so cold in here without Link. She sighed. She would have given anything to have stopped it...anything not to have gone to Jabbar. Then she heard footsteps outside the den. They weren't anything she recognized before. She crept to the mouth of the den and still within it's depths saw two legs standing there. A smelly burning stick hit the ground and one of the legs stepped on it and then walked on. Hunters.....Cinder thought in a panick. Link and the other's were out there. No...she waited amaized that the hunter hadn't seen the mouth of the den. She crept out slowly and slinked into the brush. She had to warn everyone. But a howl this close would send the human on the hunt for sure. She worried. The human went in the direction Link had gone. A sharp whine fell from her lips and she padded back and forth then ran. She would find Link before the slow human.

Zelda found that with Balthier's help they were finished with that indentation soon enough and she indicated that they should move on to the next one. Not before she raised her head to watch Rodion dealing with the newcommer. It seemed the fae perhaps did not understand? Very softly at first Zelda began to hum, a soothing and simple melody deep in her chest. It was a lullaby, her very own, one that had soothed her when she was frightened and far from home. She let the melody seep into the atmosphere before humming ever so louder each passing. Paws hefted the dirt up but the song did not waver with her movements. Yes, this was going to be a fine autumn if she could judge the current cicumstances.

Though she said it was okay he wondered if it really was. He wondered how long he would have to wonder at the pretenses she put up for him. His whine became a deep rumble in his chest and he stepped forward tucking her into the crook of his neck, pressing her tight against his bulk with his forearm. Very gently he let his tongue sweep over her crania before stepping away and looking into her eyes. A soft smile on his muzzle, once last kiss 'Be safe' then he was gone into the forest. Body lurched forward, pads hitting the rugged terrain. He flew true and swift for he would not long leave his love alone. Not in her current state. So he ran, heart pumping, legs barely touching the ground. Soon it would be a time of patience and stalking.

| With no one beside her but her small dog friend, who she knew could not protect her if the need arose, she began to shiver ever so slightly. The situation was nerve-wracking and new to her, to the point that she felt overwhelmed. There were so many wolves, so many scents she had never paid attention to before, and she looked around with wide eyes, the whites showing in the corners of her eyes. Then, suddenly, Vaarak was next to her again, and she flicked her ears back. She reclined upon her haunches, leaning into him slightly again. It just made her feel safer. She was glad he had come back, though she did not know the force that had convinced him to return to her side. Kneading the ground to relax a bit more, she looked to Rodion once more. There was no anger in his eyes, and she could see that he was trying hard to communicate with her, not only with small, short phrases, but his appearance as well. Tall, pointed auds perked forward as her name was spoken gently, and a new phrase, words she did not know. She watched his gesture and blinked, then glanced around at what he seemed to motion towards. 'Home', he had said. She wondered its meaning exactly. He motioned to all around them. The wolves, the meadow... her brow furrowed, but she could not quite connect the word and the scenery. She glanced to Vaarak, then Morgan, and then to her small, nameless friend. Tilting her head, she saw her friend wag his stub of a tail. Whatever Rodion was talking about, it meant something good, or her friend would not appear happy. Tucking the word away in her mind for later recognition, she knew she would eventually discover the meaning to the word. Perhaps many more, as well. She just needed to be shown, and eventually the language would dawn on her. Now, looking around with confusion, she wondered what else they might try to say to her. | |

| The alphen's eyes pored over the fae called Braeden with curiosity, a desire to learn all he could about her past. Her growl caught him off guard for the briefest of moments before realizing that this was no ordinary case of introduction. Her timid 'hello' made him smile. His tassel continued to wave smoothly behind him, and he watched the coming and going of Vaarak from his peripheral vision. With the young one's return, he felt a bit more comfortable about himself and handling this odd situation. His dial held steady, and he gave her the warmest of gazes he could muster. From the moment he had been approached with this incident, he knew what needed to be done, and would make it a point for the fae to know so. "Braeden," 'Hold steady...' He didn't send a glance to her friend. He didn't want to break contact. Rodion would gauge his reaction soon after. "This is home." He motioned just slightly outward with his head to enforce his point. He would say no more for now, realizing that his accent probably got in the way of her understanding. It had never phased him that his voice could be such a hinderance, and came to think that he would have to curb rapid speech with Russia on his tongue. Now he would wait. If she even understood him, it would be a fair decision to make.Morgan had taken advantage of Vaarak's leave and moved slightly closer in the time he had, and upon his return found himself flanking Braeden's other side, though the small dog forced a bit of distance between them. No matter. As long as he was around to watch things. He was rather drawn in by Rodion's attempts to take the vix in, but heard his name in the aside conversation between Zelda and Balthier, and could not help but cock an aud in their direction. He would make his comments to Vaarak about his leaving later. It could wait after his brother had already given him a piece of his mind. Tom stood behind the conversation that had developed, lingering for a few brief moments on it before losing interest. He turned away to paw at the ground where they had stopped. He felt the dirt give way beneath old, dulled talons, and with a wry smile began to appear on his face. He pulled the earth away gently. He wouldn't work too hard, not wanting to draw reprimand from the others. Just enough to cause a dent, maybe a few feet in would do it. It felt good to get his muscles stretched and working again. Perhaps he would push himself just a bit. Just to get the blood flowing... | |

| Balthier smiled at Zelda's comment, and he moved closer to start help widden the den entrance so that he wouldn't get in her way as she dug deeper. "I don't know about being a good brother, but... he is the only family, by blood, I consider to have left. I think, sometimes, I act less of a brother than I should; I've never really had someone to model myself after. At least here, Vaarak can look towards others, like Morgan and everyone else as he starts to communicate with them more." He couldn't stop his mind from lingering to the others in the pack after his last sentence. This was a place Balthier decided he could call home, and the fact he was healer was still quite heavy on his mind. Everyone could take care of themselves, he knew, but he was a bit worried about what would happen if a serious fight occured. Of course Fran was capable, as he'd learned when talking with her at one point, and he knew what Vaarak had remembered. Still, this was the first pack of wolves he seriously considered as family, even if he hadn't been here long enough to actually bond as such. Pausing in his dig to take a quick enough glance towards Vaarak, he wondered how the younger felt about not really knowing their parents. Even if he never expressed it outwardly, it was a constant thought about the possibility Vaarak disliked him for that, although that certain topic was never brought up be either of them.

| Cinder
Cinder followed Links suit and stretched. Her body felt bruised and battered but it was par for the course...it felt alot better than at first. She watched Link so full of life and her silver eyes held a special glow just for him. She looked up at the blue sky, cloudless and clear today and sighed. The sun kissed her features and she wished she could forget what had happened. Her ears flicked back slightly and then she shook her own silvergrey pelt. Don't...she reprimanded herself in her mind. Link's whine made her look toward him and her ears cupped forward. He wanted to hunt. Cinder's belly replied with slight rumble. She was hungry and knew that she should have nothing to worry about but her tail wound around her legs. "It's okay Link, I will be okay." she said and gave him a soft smile. She had to be okay....okay for him. She should be safe here. Legend did not know where she was plus with the injury Link had given him by rights he should die. Why did Cinder fear then? She would wait in the den after Link left...she would be safe there. Yes, safe. Cinder also wondered after Exodus. She had been injured too. She sighed and smiled at Link again. Knowing she was safe but also not wanting him to leave her side.

Zelda smiled as Balthier joined her. "Yes, we at least have to get some preliminary dens made. The colder weather will be upon us soon. No good for digging then." Dragging out clumps of dirt she noticed Varaak come to their side as well and she nodded at him. "Hello Varaak" she said pleasantly, smiling the whole while as his brother scolded him and made him go back to the timid fem.
Stopping her labor for the moment she watched the young bru go and then looked at Balthier with a smile. "You are a good brother to him, where most would sooner snap you guide. A good wolf like you...I am happy to have in this pack. " Still bestowing a kind smile on him she turned and continued to dig.

Waking easily from his slumber when Cinder did he nodded at her request and began to shift. Sliding from the den right behind her, he too stretched happy for the respite. He had an awful kink in his back...not that he would ever indicate it. Leaning back he raised his hind paw and gave himself a good scratch. Afterwards standing and shaking out his pelt. Now that there were life back in his limbs he looked eager and spry. Eyes beheld his love to see how she was handling everything. So far...so good. How much does it take to break a wolf? He did not know. Zelda had endured years of such trials but had recovered for the most part. Then again, she was one of the strongest fems he had ever met. Cinder was strong and he knew that she would pull through this...though he feared what would happen if she was with...mind skipped over it. Best not to dwell upon the negatives. Smiling at her he wondered if she would be okay if he went and caught them so food. There was no need to strain herself. Whining in his throat to grab her attention he made several motions, dodging back and forth and snapping at the air to get his point across.
Though if she wanted him to stay then he would he okay with that too.
