A smile slipped from her maw, but as the elder spoke, it soon became an unbridled grin. He approved. He approved! She wanted to yip like a pup and jump for joy that for once - for once! - she had finally done something right. But she held that in, standing still, her lavender eyes bright with the fading night. "Thank you," she said, voice shuddering with excitement, her mind running far ahead of her... This was a milestone. This was the beginning of something... Something she could be good at. Something worthy of the pack. Notable in her packmates' eyes.
Notable in Damean's eyes.
It was a feeling that surged from the tip of her nose all the way down to her nose, her chest swelling. Pride. This is what it felt like. And she knew that she couldn't hide it from Rawbones, but he probably already knew. He knew everything, afterall. "Yes," she responded at his suggestion of taking the rest of the deer and poppy back. "I'll get something, and meet you back at the dens."
She turned to go, but halted before departing. She instead turned around again to nuzzle her face against his old, grizzled cheek, tail wagging in appreciation. He had no idea how much any of this meant to her, but she would show him with what prey she brought back. She didn't know what she would catch, but as she had handled the newcomer, she was determined to make him and the pack proud. The young she-wolf rounded once again and took off with a bound back into the woods, headed east, towards the sunrise. Adrenaline pumped through her blood. She felt rejuvenated. She felt alive, moreso than she had felt in such a long time. She leapt over fallen trees and skidded around the brush, until she came to the crest of a small hill in the wood.
She stopped to inhale the chipper air. The forest floor beneath her lay crumpled in autumn leaves, but it had yet to snow for the first time. She knew she wouldn't catch anything racing around as she did. "Collect yourself, Echo," she said aloud, closing her eyes, breathing deeply. She listened. She listened to the chittering of the squirrels, the knock of the woodpecker, and... What was that sound? Her eyes opened and her ears perked. It was a strange, gobbling sound, one she had never heard before. She inhaled again, using more of her nose this time, and picked up an unfamiliar, but delicious, savory scent. It was the kind that made her mouth water. Whatever the source of this scent and sound was, instinct told her that it would be good.
A winding trail lead the yearling eastward and just south of Sacrifice Forest. It was a path she had walked before, almost nine months ago, when the world was green and hinted of sulfur. The trees were not as tall as they had been before, nor as thick, but they were still there, like an ageless reminders of time gone by. She knew that she was far south of the crag that Zaiku had frightened herself and Damean out of; she knew the layout of Jabbar by now. A part of her wondered if the tiny hole they had slipped through to see the inside of the earth was still there, but an unease in her chest told her not to... It had been an adventure, then, but she hadn't forgotten what had happened at the underground lake, either. She didn't have time for adventure, anyways. She was on the hunt. If Damean had been with her, however... She wouldn't have thought twice about it. Maybe she would tell him about it when she got back. She hoped he would like that; she missed him.
"Run!" Something suddenly flew by her, fleeting and ghostlike, making her hair stand on end. Echo paused, alert, but did not move. It was the female voice she was used to hearing, but could never identify. She looked around. "Why?" she called out... but received no response. She sighed. Others thought that she would be able to communicate and understand otherworldly specters by now, but she was just as lost as, if not more, than they were at times.
She continued onward. There was a small meadow with medium-sized prairie grasses before the foothills of the Shadow Mountains, silhouettes against the red, rising sun. Echo paused at the treeline, listening, and spotted movement several yards away. They were birds - larger than any birds she had ever seen before - clustered together with fat, chestnut bodies and had tail feathers the bright colors of the autumn leaves. Their heads were pale and crumply, like a fire's ashes, with bright red... things dangling from their necks. They didn't seem to notice her at all as they waddled around in circles, picking at the grounds with their corn-yellow beaks and talons. They were the source of the strange gobbling sound and savory scent.
Echo crouched low in the brush, heart calming in her chest, breathing steady. There were four of them. Which one would she choose? Should she choose the smallest, the easiest to catch? Or make a challenge of it and go after the biggest, who would be enough to feed almost three? Muscles tensed, her mind made up, waiting for the right moment for the largest one to turn his back to her... and then she launched, wrapping her claws around his frame, wider but not larger than hers. The bird beneath her let out a terrified squawk and began to beat his wings, clapping them against her, and she thrusted her weight to pull him down. The other birds screamed and began running around in circles as their leader rolled on the ground. For a moment, Echo thought she had lost him as tumbled over her, but a lightning-second opening presented herself, and she clamped her jaws around the inflamed red thing, now the size of a balloon. Blood suddenly gushed into her mouth and down her chest. She yelped, gagging, but refused to let the bird get away. She tackled him again from behind, her jaws locking around the back of his neck this time, twisted her head, and snapped it. The bird collapsed beneath her and she stood with her tail high, a half-snarl released from her triumph.
On top of her accomplishments today, she had managed to keep her inner demon at bay while she made the kill.
She panted, her mouth tasting a mix of frosty air and salty blood, watching as the other fat birds toddled away. Something just along the horizon caught her attention, however. Lavender eyes lifted to see a trio of wolves rise over the crest of a hill further south, but she could not identify who they were... but she knew what they were looking at.
They were watching her.
Her heart thudded in her chest. Echo knew, in that moment, why the ghost had told her to run. She also knew, in that moment, that she would be unable to bring her kill and reach Damean's Kingdom in time. She was now the prey, and they the predators. Seeing them there, standing on Jabbar's doorstep, the moment she ran, they would give chase.
But she had no other choice.
Echo bolted in the direction whence she came, legs pumping beneath her, cutting through the woods on the fastest path back to the dens. She didn't know who would be there, but she knew that she would be protected. She raised her head and released a strong, full howl; a warning howl, one that raised the alarm of danger and intruders. "Help!" she barked aloud, sprinting between the birch trees and leaping over fallen logs, now in panic instead of glee. She didn't know what good praying and yelling for help would do, but if anybody was around... She had to try. She had to. The intruders were at her heels and she couldn't stop running, even if her legs were weak...

| Petra quickly snapped back from wandering thoughts as the young wolf's voice came forth, asking questions she hadn't expected. She was glad that she hadn't actually overburdened him with conversation, considering his condition. She tried to catch what sort of tone he held in his voice, but she wasn't sure what she heard... he almost seemed intrigued, yet she hoped for his sake that he wouldn't still consider going to Muerta. Jabbar needed more wolves, and the mountains were a place for only the most ferocious and terrifying wolves. This young, innocent bru couldn't possibly relate with them, could he? Blinking, the hybrid fae spoke, "I suppose you could say our packs are familiar," she said with a conflicted smirk upon her mug, "Our Beta fae Akiko is sister to the Queen of the mountains, Akira. When our territory went up in flames, we were lucky enough to find refuge in the mountains, but things have been different lately... They are a ferocious group, and allegiances don't seem to mean much to them... just power and violence. When our King Damean pledged allegiance with the softer wolves of Midnight Meadows, the mountain wolves seemed to have turned their hatred on us..."Her ears pinned back slightly. She liked the meadow wolves, and was glad for the friendship, however cautious, that had formed between Jabbar and those wolves. Still, she knew that losing allegiance with Muerta was a huge downfall, as they were such a powerful force in the lands of Fire&Ice and they could strike at any time without mercy. It made her uncomfortable just thinking about it. Letting her leafy green eyes fall on him, she wondered what Ryuuketsu thought, and if he might share those thoughts. Perhaps he had been merely curious, or maybe there was more to it.----------------------------------------------- Flare merely turned to her brother and glared when he called her a copycat. She gave a little snort when he dipped his head just as s he had. So he wasn't much different himself. She turned away from him, trying to listen to the adults, but their conversation was boring and she couldn't understand most of it anyways. Her attention slowly drifted to her brothers, although she tried not to show it. Loki was busy now trying to tempt Noxus into chasing the small rodent they had spotted earlier. She rolled her eyes. He didn't really expect to catch it, did he? Since he was distracted, Flare decided now was the time... she glanced to the adults, seeing they were busy, and then stalked toward Loki. She would get him for calling her a copycat. Once she felt close enough she pounced, letting out a fierce puppy growl and aiming for his tail, hoping to give him a good nip. ---------------------------------------------- As the elder zoned out, it felt like forever until he had finally dragged the leftovers to within the vicinity of some packmates. He had found Akiko, and he gave a little sigh when he saw that Bloodeye and her brood were also present. It seemed he couldn't catch a break from the bitchy woman - though she held her value in the pack, he really didn't care for her bark and bite. She was much too touchy at times. Blinking, he forced himself to ignore the feelings of discontent and dragged the remains the rest of the way. Dropping them with a hefty grunt, he looked to Akiko, glad at least to be in her presence. She was a familiar face, one that never faltered. Wondering what they were conversing about, he meandered over to them, perking his old ears. It seemed nothing of importance, so he glanced to the whelps, curious to see how they were coming along. They bickered like any siblings should, and it brought a smirk to his lips. Since Damean and Echo had grown, there hadn't been other whelps in the pack, and it had seemed like a long gap passed before this new litter arrived. A sudden howl snapped him out of his light, dozing thoughts. Echo's voice rendered the air, setting him on edge and causing his hackles to rise. She was calling for help; he had to do something. He had no idea what was happening to her, but she was alone and she needed someone there for her. Rawbones whipped around, looking to Akiko, a desperate but determined look in his old silver orbs. "We have to help her!" he barked, tail flicking upward, "Let's go quickly!" He had forgotten his body, his condition, and the fact that he might not be able to do anything. He was suddenly thwarted and silenced as he felt himself hit the ground, and a rough, feminine voice reached his auds. Bloodeye could see from the corner of her vision what her whelps were up to. She grinned, quirking a brow - it was amusing to see how they thought nobody was watching. But she would let them think that they were getting away with something. She could merely swat them back down should they start thinking they were so clever. For now, their antics were harmless, and she would merely glance upon them with amusement. She remembered being that age, getting into trouble with her sister. Her mother had never been harsh, it had been her father she'd had to look out for... She was interrupted from amusing thoughts when she saw the old man Rawbones approach them, carrying the leftover carcass that she and Echo had taken down. Her belly was still sated from her earlier meal, but the remains would be good to satisfy the others for a little while before they could hunt once more. Turning away from the elder male, she focused back on Akiko. Waiting for Akiko's response, instead she heard Echo's howl ringing through the air. It left no time for casual conversation. She wondered what the fae had gotten herself into, little did she know that intruders had entered the lands. Still, with maternal instinct ruling her, she felt compelled to answer the call for help. Lashing around she surged right in front of Rawbones as he tried to prepare himself to leave, and she saw him stumble backward and fall to the ground, his leg clearly still hindering him right now. It was clear that he couldn't do anything to help, but he would still have his uses. In a moment's time she had blocked him and was barking orders . "If you want her safe you'll stay here and watch my offspring," she snarked, teeth gnashing together, "Just stay, I will see to it that Echo is safe." She knew she was putting herself into a scenario for conflict, simply by telling the older wolf what to do, but she knew that she would be of more help than he. She glared at him, ensuring that he was committed to caring for the whelps before she took her leave. The ivory bitch then turned toward Akiko. "I want to help the young fae," she said promptly, "Let's go." Though many moons had passed since she'd had time to interact with Exodus, she hadn't lost respect for the young fae that had tried to keep things together in the absence of her father. She knew how much Echo meant to Exodus, and to Damean, despite her resentment for him. The next generation meant everything to these wolves, and though it had little personal gain for her, she still wanted to be with these wolves, and the things that mattered to them had begun to matter for her as well. Without waiting, Bloodeye took off. She was still heavy with milk, but she felt energized by the prospect of battle. She did not yet know what dangers faced her, but she was willing to take on the challenge. She weaved through the tall, dark pines, and all of a sudden found herself face to face with Echo, and close on her tail were three intruders. Letting loose a nasty snarl, Bloodeye lunged forward, forcing her way between the young wolfess and her pursuers, fangs exposed. "How dare you threaten our wolves on our own territory?!" she exclaimed, her voice harsh and her muzzle wrinkled into a snarl of fury. | |

| He heard an alarmed cry and rose to his feet. Briefly, he glanced back towards Petra's den. If the cry was heading in their direction, though, he should still be close enough to return, should anything happen. Blade would probably return if he knew any harm came too close, too... Niveus nodded and called into the den, "I'm heading out. Whatever is happening is coming this way. Be ready for anything." He left in a run. There was still some distance between the den and the source of the call, and by the time he arrived, he saw an unfamiliar female jump between Echo and three wolves. She was probably another pack mate. For now, ignoring the intruders, he approached Echo and whispered just for her ears, "Petra and another your age is at the dens. Blade isn't back yet, so can you tell Petra what's going on and stay with her? Keep them safe, whether it means fighting or escaping. I know you're capable of deciding which would be best." He didn't know if she was capable of fighting one-on-one yet or not, so he was giving her an out. An out that would hold an important job she she didn't feel obligated to remain even if she didn't wish to fight. His gaze swiftly returned to the wolves in front of him, ready to jump in, trusting his size to at least cause them a bit of pause, enough for more wolves to appear. He sized them up- one, no... two females and one male. While he pinned the one with green eyes as one to watch out for, his attention was primarily on the other two. They looked less impressive, but they had to be good, considering there were only tree of them infiltrating a pack. The other female, the leader, he suspected, held a coldness to her eyes, and it wasn't coming from the fact they were blue. The male... Niveus didn't know yet, but there had to be something, and the more he thought, the more he didn't like it. He looked at his coat, especially around the vitals and legs, looking for powder and the teeth and claws, for powder or for something shiny that wasn't saliva. He did the same with the females, but to a lesser extent, because their strengths seemed more obvious. He was familiar with all sorts in his homeland. There was no such thing as an honorable fight there. Even in rare non warring times, dirty tricks were everywhere... like that story he'd told Petra earlier. He wouldn't say anything, but he feared his lingering scrutiny probably already gave his suspicions away unless their attention was still on Bloodeye. He also noted how, while Bloodeye was demanding answers, the green-eyed fem moved marginally closer to blue-eyes. Was she the guard of the leader, shifting to be ready to deflect a direct attack to her leader? She looked the sort to fit the description. While he wasn't as intelligent as his half brother, Niv's knowledge rested in everything war-related. If it came down to a fight, logically he'd fight green eyes, who seemed to have lived through as much battles as he had, but... the male was an unknown. As such, Niv was probably better equipped to fight an unknown factor. Ryuu was thinking on her words and reaction to his question when a voice filtered into the den. He hadn't realized anything was wrong. Whatever relaxant he may have consumed was losing its edge as his body called for a response to the potential threat. He didn't tense up again, but he was pushing the drugs at bay. What ifs floated to his mind. What if the threat came here? What if he blanked out? As long as he didn't see the threat, nothing would happen, right? There was probably no point in questioning Petra, so he focused on their conversation, more muttering to himself, "Otso shouldn't go near it, then..." He had noticed how the other wolf occasionally struggled with pain. If he noticed, anyone else would as well. "What else can you tell me about this pack?" he questioned. He might as well hear more about this pack... see if it felt right. | |

| Akiko's azul orbs behld each pup as Bloodeye moved to introduce them. Her ears had flicked back at her earlier mention of Damean but Akiko was going to get to the point of that shortly enough. Her gaze was steady and while not meant to intimidate was heavy all the same. Two boys and a girl, good for the pack. They would need warriors to run these woods. She stepped forward and did not speak but nodded her dial in affirmation of their existence and then bent and sniffed their face, moving from their neck to their small snouts. Satisfied she learned the scent she took a step back and looked at Bloodeye who was speaking. "Actually I am calling a pack meeting for Damean, its good that you are already here." Movement in the woods signaled the arrival of Rawbones, the older wolf carrying some sort of meat. She perked at the site of him wondering what had been going on in their little wood. Akiko moved to go to the elder when the sound of terror rent the air. Immediately her body was rigid eyes fixed in the direction from where she heard the cry. Rawbones having sooner recognized it as Echo exclaimed and Akiko watched in pained anxiety as the brute surged forward only to tumble to the ground, obviously injured. Just like that Bloodeye commanded her children upon him and Akiko spared no time and turned on her heel and dashed after the fem easily keeping her pace. Ducking and weaving through the forest she felt her blood surge into her heart, there was a roaring in her ears as adrenaline flooded her system. What new threat was this? And suddenly they were upon Echo, Bloodeye roaring her challenge. Akiko was dimly aware of another coming...Blades brother a stray thought told her but her focus was on the trio of wolves who were mere bounds away. With a snarl of rage that they dare try and assault one of her own, without waiting for their answer Akiko streamed forward snaking around around Bloodeye and thrusting herself low at the oncoming wolves. Her body smacking into a chest her teeth flashed her paws seeking purchase in flesh... | |

| She was ready, ever since they started to chase the young wolf. The howls surely would draw the attention of the others and cause the pack to gather. These were the first responders. The first to get between them and their target demanded an answer. One she'd let her leader answer. Then, a petite, white pelted wolf appeared just behind, not bothering to wait. The correct path of action, if she did say so herself. Unfortunately, she wasn't going to let that happen. She stepped between her leader and this Jabbar wolf, standing her ground as they collided, her own jaws snapping to block, or even bite down on the other's, paws clawing in front of her, to ward the other off or to injure... which ever came first. She felt a few scratches into her shoulder, but they didn't feel too bad. It was something she could shrug off.
This specific approach wasn't quite her style, but protection detail reminded her to act now. She'd adapt if this fight continued. For now... she'll remain mostly on the defensive until she had either heard further instruction, or she decided to change her style. The smaller wolf may be an easy opponent, or she may not. She didn't know if she could end this fight quickly, but if required, she could stall. From the corner of her eyes, she noticed a third wolf, coming to a stop next to their target. One who looked battle-worn. Not that the other two seemed inexperienced, but he looked different somehow, as if he was used to seeing battle and flirt with Death every day. He stood out to her, especially his careful scrutiny of the three of them, as if he was trying to read their strengths and weaknesses. Too bad he probably wouldn't get too far with her. This small part of her attention that wasn't focused on the wolf directly in front of her shifted to her own companions, curious to how both would respond, but her curiosity was focused on one of them. Quick to reveal the trump card, or hold onto it? Now, though, she moved her bulk to unbalance the other to push her attacker away, swiping for good measure. It was probably clear to the other fem she was built to fight based on her appearance, but there wasn't anything currently wrong with trying to keep her abilities discrete. Maybe appear she was underestimating her opponent to see what she was really capable of? Fight with fluctuating skill levels to throw her off? Fight weakly until conditions were more favorable and then hit hard? She didn't know what she'd do yet. Time would tell. If she didn't know what she'd do, neither could her opponent.

They were coming for her... They were coming for her like her demons were, always on her heels, behind her face and above her throat, the shadows screaming as she sprinted past them... She could tell without having to look over her shoulder that they were there. Physical manifestations of everything she feared and loathed. Suddenly, the pack was surrounding her, and there was so much movement and sounds that her legs gave out from beneath her and she stumbled. She scrambled to her paws. An icy chill shivered down her spine at the sight of a pair of cold, sapphire eyes locked on hers, unflinching of the two wolves fighting next to her.
Things were shouted, but they were dull to Echo's ears, adrenaline surging through them. She stood in the shadow of Niv, poised to attack. Bloodeye's face flashed before her own and then faced the pair of eyes that would not stray her form, snarling with fury. And there was Akiko, already upon one of her attackers. Where was Rawbones? Why wasn't he here? She prayed that they hadn't gotten to him, or that there were more of them coming after the pack. A fire burned in Echo's chest and she wished to unleash it, but she knew she could not contain the spread if it came to. Instead, she choked down her fear and clenched her teeth, daring to gaze into the eyes of the white demon coming to claim her soul. "What do you want from me?" she barked, but it came out as more of a yelp, emotions rippling through her.
And the white demon stood still, tail sweeping at an almost... relaxed pose, as if nothing was happening, or as if she were deaf to the pair of tangled wolves beside her. Then, there was a smile. An oh so dangerous smile, one that made Echo's insides twist and everything feel even worse. She saw the demon's white lips move, but she could not hear the voice that came out of them. It was then that she noticed that she wasn't saying words at all.
"Hush, hush..." she was whispering. She stood still amongst the flurry of chaos, as stone does amongst the winds of a blizzard. The third wolf alongside her was quiet as well, a man of few words, but his eyes were ever-watching as well. They were numb to the fire in the air. There was a fat bitch yelling at them, but Evanescence could not determine her words from her snarls. But she heard the young Echo's voice, loud and clear, like the ringing of a glass bell.
"What do I want with you?" Evanescence replied, voice low and dangerous, brow incredulous. "I want you to come home."

| Pleased to see that others had come to face the threat just as quickly, Bloodeye readied herself to join the onslaught, grinning maniacally as she watched Akiko surge forth without question. She observed briefly as Akiko charged straight toward the apparent leader of the group, only to be intercepted by a guardian. Though the femora looked battle-worn, Bloodeye would not fret for the small Beta fae, as she knew Akiko was quick, sharp and forceful, and she would not need help taking out even a larger opponent. She could easily keep that fae busy. Her eyes flashed as she noticed a large, brutish warrior appear - a surprise attack from the side? She wasn't familiar with Niveus, but she saw how he sized up the raiding wolves and realized he was here as backup. He looked like he could hold his own, and his presence could certainly discourage these invaders from whatever they were trying to do. Now her crimson orbs shifted to seek out a target, talons clenching the earth eagerly.
Hackles spiked as she saw the leader of the group standing there amongst the fray with such poise, as though nothing could touch her. Bloodeye had seen her kind before, the kind with such an air of superiority it could make her sick. But mostly it made her blood boil with hatred. How dare this temptress enter their lands feeling so confident that she hardly batted an eye when faced with ferocious opposition? Those cold blue eyes were focused on Echo, clearly the center of her motives right now, for whatever reason. Although there was clear communication going on between them, Bloodeye couldn't hear the snowy demon's words, her voice was low as though only for Echo to hear. Echo seemed gripped by some sort of terror, frozen to the spot. "Fight back, don't listen to her," she urged, a harsh rasp escaping her throat. Muzzle crinkled in anger, Bloodeye trotted toward Evanescence, closing the distance between them. She wanted to see her on her toes and watching her step, she couldn't stand to see the fae looking so comfortable. How dare she be so at ease in territory that is not hers, amongst wolves who want her blood? How dare she ignore us? Let her ignore my fangs! "Lets dance," she said almost nonchalantly, but in an instant she lurched forward, jaws snapping towards Evon's paws - she would make the fae move or she would crush her paws. Either way, blood was going to fly, lest another of her irritating lackeys interfere. --------------------------- Petra noticed Ryuu's sudden tension, realizing a distant howl had echoed into her den. She had been so focused on their conversation, and being a healer and never a warrior, she was not prone to responding quickly to calls such as this. She was the one who waited anxiously for the injured fighting wolves to come back to her so that she could treat them. She felt bad for Ryuu, whose response was intense, even though he seemed to shove it down for the time being. She wouldn't try to reassure him, she knew that the pack would take care of anything, although it left a churning pit of anxiety in her belly. She hoped everyone would be safe. Shaking away worry, she focused on the young male. Ryuu spoke of someone named Otso, a wolf she hadn't heard of before, but that seemed to mean something to him. She tilted her head, wondering why he said Otso shouldn't go there. Probably something that would be picked out as a weakness with the mountain wolves. "Is Otso a brother, or friend?" she asked curiously. Then he asked to know more about Muerta.... what else could she tell him? That only the insane and violently mad should enter that territory? "Well, there's not much more to them," she began, frowning, "They are simply vicious wolves. There are no weak wolves in their ranks. At one time their power was even more frightening, as the Midnight wolves resided there, a powerful breed, although a little mindless. They eventually killed themselves off and dispersed... but even now, Akira's offspring roams the mountains, I guess they'd be around your age by now. They also happen to be the spawn of our late King Damean..." It was yet another terrifying fact that they had wolves of such bloodlines within Muerta. Their power just never seemed to end. She wondered if they were plotting anything - certainly they wouldn't just remain in that cold and harsh territory gathering power... eventually they would unleash it, and then they better all watch out.

| Akiko's attack fell short as another body intercepted her, but no matter it was nothing less than she expected. A poor escort indeed if they wouldn't be ready for the attack. Twisting sharply to stop her velocity she relished the contact of the others body against her. She felt teeth graze her foreleg, the sharp snap as jaws clacked together. Akiko's body turned up snapping at the fems throat, her tiny statue almost always meant she would be coming from the underside but she had long mastered the technique. Paws pushed at her shoulder and she jumped back, a snarl erupting from her chest. Blue eyes were dark with rage, her eyes looked past the shoulders of the defender to the snowy white vixen, similar to her own coloring. One ear flicked back as she heard Bloodeye come forth to challenge the fem. Pity, she had wanted the main attraction, oh well she would be done with this fight soon enough. The third was a wildcard but Niveus and Echo still stood behind them. It was her job now to distract from Bloodeye's fight. So without hesitation she lurched forward snapping her challenge but not giving the full commitment of her body. She circled to the right in hopes of luring the fem from the white witch's side and her back would then be to Bloodeye's. The wolf had a solid build of a fighter but they all usually did. "Come child if you think you can." She snarled and waited for the move. | |

| Her brain flashed half thoughts to her awareness, eyes not ceasing to observe. Despite not wanting to commit to thought, Corentine's opponent, too seemed to have a specific objective. She had thought the next attack to be as such, but as she moved to meet it, it was clear the other hadn't intended to cause any fatal injury. And there it was. The objective. Now was not the time to continue being spontaneous. To abandon Evanescence's side and leave both of them exposed, or to surge forward and attack and expect her opponent to easily fall? Either would be considered upholding her job, but... she had to take the others into account, and she had to act now if she was. If she attacked, though, her eyes would be off the others, focused solely on the petite wolf. This wolf hadn't learned to survive this long without learning how to beat those larger than her. At the same time, she was a warrior, placed into position of guard. "Child, am I? And I thought you were the one with the home advantage?" She also offered a slow, devious smirk. It was almost playful, emerald eyes sparkling with anticipation, although she made no movements to engage again. She wasn't quite ready to move yet, only moving a few steps out of the way so Evon had more room for her own fight. Perhaps Corentine was already playing into her opponent's paws by refusing to move. The words that sounded like a partial taunt wouldn't affect her. Even if the sentence had instead been worded to enrage her, she had experience to not blindly fall into her anger and blood lust. It was surely simmering under the surface, but she could wait it out if it meant the perfect storm. Warrior types normally reacted first before thinking of the consequences, perhaps the thought passed her adversary. Her own reactions were carefully tempered. The storm wasn't here yet, but it was building up, and what a sight it would be. She flicked her ear back, as if out of boredom. What would enrage the petite wolf back, or would it become a standstill, becoming a battle of who would be first to make the first move from impatience? Wouldn't that be fun? Her next attack, though, whoever moved first, may or may not be much more aggressive. The storm would suddenly unleash without warning, where Corentine herself mustn't know when it'd strike. She nearly shivered with anticipation. It wasn't often she'd subdue herself temporarily to this degree, but with some wolves, it was necessary, or just plain more fun. Still... if it weren't for that stupid bru in front of Echo, she would have enough room to at least run over to knock her out... Then it'd be simply a matter of fighting their way out. In times like these, there had to be a balance of waiting and also finishing up before other wolves showed up. If her opponent didn't move soon, she'd eventually be forced to, just because of the chance of more of the pack appearing. He carefully responded, "Otso is... a father figure. He found me and helped me when he needn't have. I haven't known him for long, but he stayed with me despite the fact I attract trouble. That's why we were traveling towards a pack. I hope he's still alive, wherever he is." Ryuu had other questions, but felt it was wrong of him to ask. Why would their apparent former ruler have kids with such wolves, then, if they weren't allies anymore? And it was silent now, with regards to outside the den. He was dying to know what was happening, but didn't want to risk forgetting. The mongoose seemed restless, but was conflicted for a different reason- probably wanting to remain nearby. Was there a way for him to observe, but not get lost and relinquish control to... whatever it was that clearly held no regard to life? This healer wouldn't understand, would she? "Your pack will be ok, right? I'd offer to help... but it feels like there's something hidden deep inside. Not quite wanting to take complete control, but when it does, there's nothing that'll stop it. There's always blood afterwards, though. I don't want it to come out, because I never really know what happens during the time I'm not aware. That's not normal." It was more a statement than a question. How could it be normal? Where could it have come from, though? If only he could remember where he came from, but the problem was, he didn't want to remember. | |

| Petra flicked an ear, wondering but restraining herself from asking how they had gotten separated, if Otso had stayed with him through whatever troubles they had faced. It wasn't her right to keep prying, even if he was still an outsider in Jabbar. Her gaze flicked away from Ryuu, picking up the restless movement of his mongoose friend. Her attention snapped back to Ryuu as his voice came forth again. He was curious to know if the pack would be alright, but he seemed more worried about something else. She fretted on the inside as well, but she had to assure herself that they would be fine. She blinked with confusion as Ryuu went on. What he was describing was... no, it wasn't normal. But it reminded her of Echo, how the fae could be herself one moment and suddenly fade into grasp of a raging monster the next moment. The pack's elder Rawbones seemed to have an aggressive rage as well. Despite how Petra knew her packmates seemed to have certain triggers, she found herself shuddering internally as she lay in the dark cave alone with Ryuu. Did he have triggers as well, or could he suddenly turn? She tried to ignore her feelings of fear and forced her hackles to lay flat. He had been docile so far, even when she'd treated his wounds. Why would he suddenly switch now? "It's okay," she said softly, if somewhat awkwardly, "Our pack has strong fighters... um, your condition. Well, I don't think it's normal, but it's not unheard of in Jabbar." She wondered what he would think of this - she would tell him more, but she wasn't sure where to start. Surely he would have more questions for her, at least she hoped, so she could keep his mind off of whatever was happening outside and hopefully keep him from going into a nasty rampage. | |

| OOC: So, I'm not sure what Bear is up to, but I would feel wrong playing Vault for him... I haven't named the other lackey that's with Evanescence, so for now... We'll say his name is Slade. And go off of that, I suppose.
Echo's voice choked in her own throat. Home? What... What did that mean? She suddenly felt sick to her stomach, her head spinning, the vicious snarls of everyone around her escalating, defending her, protecting her yet again... This was her family. This was the place she had grown up. Yes, she had distant memories of Midnight Meadows, but beyond that... Jabbar was her home. Exodus her mother. Rawbones her father, almost. And Akiko, and Bloodeye, and Blade, and Petra, and... all of them. They showed her right from wrong, truth from lie, and everything a little girl ever needed to know about growing up. And... Damean. He had taught her how to love, in a way that she had yet to comprehend. But her lavender eyes did not leave the cold, steely blue ones of the white fae that stood before her, as if beckoning her in, and she truly couldn't help but wonder... wonder about the blood in their veins, the dark souls tied by the invisible strings of fate, and the whispers that plagued the nightmares...
"Fight back, don't listen to her," Bloodeye's voice urged to her before the fae herself launched forward, but to Echo, it was as if she was miles away, distant and lost. Or was it she that was distant and lost, and this white wolf wanted to bring her to the place she had wandered so far from? She was immobilized, and she had to act, but she could feel her body turn to stone, the world slowing, darkening, the weight of her decision shrouding every other thought in her mind...
Evanescence, on the other hand, was more aware of the situation at hand. She only smirked at the fem that lobbed herself towards her paws; she deserved no curt reply, for it was not her attention she wanted. Bloodeye lunged at her and she in response jumped, sailing clean over her, using the hill to her advantage. She knew Slade would handle the bitch - he had a ruthless way of dealing with things. His jaws would come down on Bloodeye's throat before she knew it. He would give no warning, just attack. Knowing this, Evanescence locked eyes again with Echo, but there was still the younger male to get through, who stood before the yearling, bodyguard-like. And while Evanescence saw him, she gave him no regard, again speaking directly to Echo.
"You know you don't belong here. You never have," she taunted, lyrics smooth and silver, like the ice out over a lake. Untouched by the chaotic wildness of the surrounding land. "You belong with me. With your family. In Lacrimosa. I know you know of it, child... It's that place in the depths of your mind. The place with the woods, the mist, and the darkness. It's why you feel comfortable here in these lands, but I know you still find yourself wondering if this is all there is to be. And it's not - it's a lie. Come with me. You will find out the truth about your blood... and the hell inside you. Yes, I know about that too. His hateful and fiery wrath. The way he tells you to kill. How even when you latch your jaws around a prey's throat, he whispers that it's not enough..."
Echo looked up, hearing Evon's words. Her eyes brimmed with tears, her tail tucked. She hadn't said a word to the fae about any of this. "How... How do you know?"
"Dear girl," Evanescence chuckled. "It's your destiny, as predicted on the dawn you were birthed in the pitch and filthy den."
"Kill her!"
"No..." Echo grumbled in the reply, feeling that inner demon clench her insides yet again, threatening to take over. She couldn't. She wouldn't. This woman... whoever she was... had answers. Echo cringed, gasping for breath, the redness seeping like blood into her eyes, but she shook her head, refusing to let that bastard take over... She wouldn't... Everyone else was fighting and her body ached to, yearned to, but she knew if she did she would disappoint herself and Rawbones and Damean and lose control and she didn't know what would happen... But reason would come through, it had to... And she knew the reason, and the truth, right there, and she wanted to know both more than anything in the world, ever since she had come to understand it. She swallowed the burning in her throat, the one that held back a snarl, and she looked at Evanescence, so calm and like... Like that white wolf she would chase in the woods... That she knew the only choice here was to tuck her tail and ears, lean forward, and surrender.
"Take me."
"Excuse me? What was that?"
Echo looked up at Evanescence, now certain and true. "Take me to the place that I wandered from... Take me to Lacrimosa."

Her teeth clashed just short of their target, she was sure the weight of her milk was dragging her down. It made her furious as she saw the fae go sailing over her head; she would have liked to leap up and snatch her right out of the air by her gut, but she knew she was bound to the earth right now. I've had enough of this wench! Somebody rip her throat out already! But as she glanced forward, she realized she had more to think about, and had to discard enraged thoughts of the snowy white femora. A ferocious-looking brute was headed straight for her with no warning, his jaws closing in on her throat. Snarling, Bloodeye retreated several paces and lowered her head to protect her throat, now using the angle of the hill to her own advantage. She hoped that the male barreling toward her would find it hard to slow down. She was poised, ready to nail him in the face, her teeth seeking to slash open his face and gouge out his eyes. She knew she would have to move quickly, even if just to match her jaws with his - he was going in for the death strike, but she didn't have agility on her side today, which might otherwise allow her to move more efficiently and avoid his jaws or strike back with just as deadly intent. Even as she squared off with the hessian, her ears were tilted back, in case of an onslaught from behind. But it was not an attack that she sensed. Instead, she heard the words exchanged, and heard Echo's feeble reply to the intruding wench. She had surrendered, and was going to leave them. After all of this. Fool! Coward! Traitor! the words screeched in her mind. Her eyes widened as she looked the brute in front of her, her pupils constricted and body coiled, ready to lunge. How she wished to simply discard of him so that she could smite Echo herself! The mouse-hearted fae had added insult to injury - her pack was under siege, intruded upon and while her family put their lives on the line, she surrendered to the enemy without batting an eye. Spoiled rotten, foul and worthless child, the rage continued on within the confines of her hateful mind, Why do I stand here shielding my throat from the blades of these wolves? To protect her? The dark clouds of hatred whirled within her, and she knew that it would brew for a long time to come. She would allow it. She would nurture the hatred and let it brood within her - she would cherish it more lovingly than she would any child from her own loins. Let Echo go. She would regret showing such weakness, Bloodeye would see to it, after all what greater purpose did she serve roaming this earth than to bring herself and others misery?

| Akiko's sharp gaze never left the young wolfess but her senses reeled keeping track of what the others were doing. Echo stood dumbfounded and the white fem so like her own countenance but so very different at the same time, spoke out reaching to the youth. The words were sharp and to the point though Akiko could not discern the history behind the speech. Who was this fem that had such a relationship with Echo? The word Lacrimosa rolled off the fems tongue and Akiko felt a twinge of familiarity. She had heard that name before, whispered in rumors and far off news. She couldn't put her mind on just what it was about though...before she could speculate farther she was interrupted by a seemingly casual surrender on Echos part. Akiko snarled and looked sidelong at the pup but dare not take her eyes off her enemy. She more felt Bloodeye's rage, the ripple of energy surging through the crowd. Another snarl and Akiko's harsh voice barked out. "You would do Damean shame if you left now Echo, you have no idea the gift he has given you and that you would throw it away without thought is despicable. Has Rawbones taught you nothing? You would throw yourself to these wolves because this bitch says she knows you? Here and now is your pack and family, those who would protect you, those who have given you a home. You would throw that away in our face?" Again Akiko's snarl lit the clearing, her rage mounting. She felt a layer of emotion break off and her body began to shake in anger. It was few and far between that Akiko let her anger get the most of her, it did no good to allow her demons off their leash. Control was needed, control was always needed else you were a fool led by your body and not by your mind. Control meant you survived another day. She felt her control slip and her body jerked as if she was trying to hold herself back. Snapping her jaws she growled once more and continued her litany. "So choose Echo, choose to turn your back on the pack that took you in, on Damean who thought you were so worthy. Choose, you are the named Queen of Jabbar Junayd by this day and have been appointed thus by the King of Jabbar Junayd. Damean is gone, left to complete his trials and he left you in his stead.." Here her voice got soft and low. "Would you to abandon us now Echo know that I mark you traitor and claim your life forfeit." The air was thick with tension, Akikos head was dropped low prepared for the violence that threatened to explode any moment. | |

Evanescence smiled at Echo's unwavering gaze. This girl knew what she wanted - and she wanted what Lacrimosa had, despite the snarls of her packmates. The white witch's chest swelled with pride for the kin she didn't even raise, who was willing to throw everything away for the pursuit of truth. How pathetic, how sad, how naive. They had raised the girl exactly the way that she had predicted. She stood close to the child, enough to feel her shaking breath, inhaling her scent, one that hinted of lavender. "Excellent," Evanescence whispered. "Then come and--"
But she was interrupted! Both Evon and Echo whirled to see Akiko, shouting admist the chaos. Echo's eyes, if possible, widened further. Damean had named her Queen? When... When had that happened? And why? They had never discussed it, and she certainly would have never considered it a possibility. Akiko would not lie to her; no, she was too angry to lie. Echo could see past her blue-eyed fury the truth and desperation in her heart, however dark, that she meant something to the pack. More than something now, as she had always been more than something to Damean. Was that why he had chosen her? She didn't know, but she knew that Akiko was right if she abandoned them - she would never be able to return. Come home to the family she had come to know, had been accepted into, and taught the ways of life.
There were two truths she had to choose from, at the moment. Go with the woman who could see right through her, as she could with others, and learn the truth of her history? Or stay with the family who had the faith to trust her as a leader and warrior? She found herself clenching her teeth, heart tightening in her chest, and her head lowering to the ground. She had to choose. Make a decision. The memories flashed behind her of all the other decisions she had made in the past, ones that had just ended up hurting others or worse, and she knew now that somebody was going to get hurt either way...
Chest shaking, nails dug into the earth, cool wind in her ears, she could feel the madness spread through her veins like hot, thick fire. Her will could only suppress that demon so much. But she forced herself to look at this woman, this one who claimed to know her, and she knew without having to ask that yes, she did know. The crimson film flooded into her amethyst eyes, poisoning them from the inside out, the silver hair raised on the back of her neck, black lips wrenched into a menacing snarl.
"I am the Queen here," she growled, soft, low, and vicious. "And I say, I've changed my mind."
Evanescence raised a brow in surprise and her mouth fell agape, the weight of this smaller fem sending her over backwards, back crashing into the mud, a crackle of thunder accompanying her fall. She looked up to see Echo's bloodied jaws coming for her again, red eyes glowing and wild. Her own fury overtaking her, Evon raised a paw and slammed it aside Echo's eardrum, enough to knock her off balance. Evon wiggled out from underneath and shoved the girl with her wounded shoulder, whirling and snapping her jaws at Echo's neck. They locked on the backside, but Echo didn't yelp or flinch as she ripped away from her and nailed her in the side, near the ribs. Evon released and jumped back before the girl could take hold, her tail raised high for the fire-fight. It had been so long since she had had a worthy opponent; the last she could think of was Zelda, in Midnight Meadows, and she was, at the very least, excited to see that there was now a foe better than that.
Echo came for her again, talons outstretched and jaws snapping, and again Evon side-stepped, selecting defense and watching the girl's movements. How long would her bloodlust last? Of course, Evanescence had seen these furious displays before, in another wolf, and knew that they could last for hours. It was simply a matter of understanding the madness, the insanity that drove Echo to slash and bite, wherever it was convenient moreso than an actual strategy. This was the girl's fault. Spending all of her energy on the attack and not the plan would be her downfall. Evon could see it now, even through the pouring rain and darkening sky, that Echo would rather throw herself at her rather than recover and evaluate, as she did now. Evon would dodge and swerve, delivering a blow to test where the girl's weakness was, absorbing her every injury and dealing double, if it were to land.
And there. Evon saw it, as Echo paused for just a moment, a patch of blood dripping from the left side of her neck. A vulnerability. Evon dove for the chance, lowering herself and sprinting for her, initiating her signature move. As expected, Echo charged for the bait, lunging forth and aiming to catch the witch right in front of her, who skidded out of the way at the last second and rounded to get her right in the neck, where the first wound already was. It knock Echo to the ground, taking the breath out of her and snapping her demons back into place.
"That's all?" Evanescence chuckled, maw dripping with Echo's blood. "Only a few mere minutes of a fight? I'm disappointed."
Echo struggled against the witch's weight, her back pressing into the soft mud, keeping her still. She choked, gasping for air, and the pain of her injuries began to ripple through her body. Was this the end? No, no it couldn't be... It wouldn't be. She refused. Instead of responding to this woman, this vile and wretched bitch, Echo's gaze found Akiko's, holding stronger than it ever had in the past. A gaze of honor, trust, and above all, truth.
"My first order as Queen is to take this woman as prisoner."

| Speed was in his favor. The iron hessian bolted up the hill, teeth bared, aiming for the fat bitch's shoulder more than her neck, now protected. His teeth connected with something but was blurred with the feeling of pain on the left side of his face, and he stumbled only a few steps, shaking his head, blood dripping down his cheek. He chuckled, dark and humored. "Useless thing," he said. He had never been able to see out of it, or really felt it there at all when it had been. He noticed his opponent pause and seem to become enraged at the group of wolves behind them, yelling and crying and snarling. He didn't care for their politics. He was a hired gun, here to kill for the thrill and take his prize when the time came. He didn't even care as his employer was thrown on her back or her blood drawn. That wasn't his focus or goal.
"Incoming," he said in a sing-song voice, starting for Bloodeye again, this time aiming for her side. It seemed that she had trouble adjusting to her own weight, moving slow, cow-like. His speed, he knew for certain now, was at his advantage, and he would use it to win the fight.

Loki laid on his stomach in the dirt, heaving a sigh. He looked up at the giant wolf above him, who stood still and silent. "I'm bored," he announced, hoping for some kind of response. He sat up and back on his haunches, thumping his small black tail on the ground. His brother was too dumb to talk to and his sister didn't want to talk about the same things he did. His tiny ears perked when he heard a howl and snarls, and then he jumped to his feet, alert. "Hey! What is that?" he asked the guardian, emerald eyes bright with curiosity and excitement.

| A feeling of satisfaction filled her as she felt her fangs slash across his face, blood dripping down his face while dealt with merely a small gash upon her shoulder. Clearly he hadn't seen her jaws coming, unless it was possible for him to be stupid enough as to put himself in a risky situation. Crimson orbs narrowed and a wicked cackle escaped her jaws; she readied herself for his next move as he announced his approach. She knew she couldn't match him in speed, so she would have to play dirty. As he charged toward her side, Bloodeye allowed a frightened grimace to mar her visage - then stepped back, appearing to lose her footing on the hill's angle, hoping that he would seek to take advantage of her and surge forth even faster. She dropped at an angle that would be advantageous, then rolled just once. As soon as her paws were beneath her again, she lashed out for one of his legs, hoping to trip him up with his own forward momentum. If she could just get him down, she would heave her mass upon him to keep him pinned, and strike down on a vital point. This had to end, for she had so much left to do in this lifetime.. ------------------------- Flare sighed boredly as she and her siblings wandered seemingly without purpose, following their guardian's trail. She was unsure as to why they had suddenly been dumped into the care of this old, grungy wolf, although the adults had seemed somewhat distraught before mother took off. She had hoped to meet more of the big, ferocious wolves in the pack, but now they were stuck with the elderly brute instead. She perked as she heard Loki's voice, then rolled her eyes. "How about you fight the old man?" she taunted, her brow wrinkled, "That'll keep ya busy. Maybe he'll eat you up once and for all!" She snickered, but was interrupted by the distant sound of snarls. It sounded dangerous and thrilling at the same time. Loki was the first to ask, and Flare tilted her head, looking to Rawbones for an answer. ------------------------------ The scruffy senior had been left in quite the indignant state, and Akiko's pitiful glance upon him had only added to his shame. Now three whelps tailed behind him, bickering and doing what feisty young pups would do. He heard the boy announce his boredom, and then the fae grumbling about something to her brother. Their constant chatter and activity caused him to feel irritable on top of his inner turmoil at becoming too old to be of any use. "Quit your muttering!" he snapped, glaring upon them with foggy silver eyes, "Can't you keep yourselves busy? Go kill a squirrel, or fight to the death or something.." He knew very well that pups their age could do neither, but if it would keep them occupied then it didn't matter to him what they tried to do. Shaking his head, he continued to mosey along, his joints aching dully. He was headed toward the dens, which would hopefully offer some comfort until the others returned - they would need to come to the dens to have their wounds treated. Before he had even noticed anything, Rawbones saw Loki jump to his paws, alerted by a noise. Tilting his head, he just made out the sounds of the fighting, his ears doing little justice for him these days. A wave of anxiety washed over him for many reasons, causing his belly to drop and his heart to beat harder. Echo was out there somewhere, possibly being torn apart by enemy fangs. He could do nothing to stop it. Would his packmates fare well without his aid? Trying to rid the incessant thoughts, Rawbones turned to Loki, leaning down closer to him, his pained and hollow gaze meeting with the wonder and excitement in the youngster's emerald pools. "It is the sound of combat and bloodshed, something you will come to know well," he rumbled in a tone of story-telling fashion; stained canines showed beneath his lips as he spoke, "Jabbar Junayd is not a pack to challenge lightly. These wolves are much too fierce, they've never allowed themselves to be defeated. Whatever rivals are here today will pay with their own hides as our packmates claim victory - maybe they'll even come back with a trophy; another wolf's head." The young never understood the dangers, so it would be easy to convince them that the pack would eliminate their rivals without pause. Rawbones knew the possibilities, but at least he could keep his mind off of the undesired outcomes. He would have to deal with whatever came if the intruders somehow overpowered the others. | |

| Niveus watched the scene, slowly piecing things together. The young wolf exited his protection, seemingly to join these outsiders. He did nothing as he listened to the angered protests of Akiko and Bloodeye. The former guardian had no place yet in this pack and didn't yet have any bonds with these wolves. Plus, it seemed like they were doing a good job on their own.
Then the battle recommenced. Yellow orbs observed what had happened within the brief seconds. The apparent queen of this pack needed medical attention, but she would have to be brought to Petra once this was done. The others seemed fine at the moment, and weren't considered as important as the leader of a pack, even if she was merely a leader-to-be. Thus, he started forward, charging towards Evanescence, only to snarl in frustration as he jumped backward to avoid an attack.
It was true she halted her attack, but it had seemed as if they wouldn't have any trouble for a while. Convince the wolf to leave with them, and they'd get out of there to save time and energy... leaving the hired hand behind to cover their exit. The wolf didn't seem to care whether he lived or not, too focused on violence. That was what made a good mercenary, though- one who may not need to be rewarded since they'd likely soon perish anyway. But now, the young wolf let emotion and bonds prevail in her thinking. Evon looked happy enough, though. Her eyes shifted at the sudden movement of a streak of a larger white wolf she'd been unconcerned about. There was no way he was going to interrupt a fight, so she barreled ahead, intercepting his path with a swipe of a paw as she went. Corentine only meant to block him momentarily, as she was more concerned about the petite, white wolf. As she went by the bru, he seemed more aloof and didn't quite smell of the pack. He seemed to be refraining from jumping in, so she'd keep an eye on him as he might sneak in a move at an opportune moment to turn the tides. The other fem, though, would take Echo's words at heart and also aim to attack Evon. She went in for a quick attack to Akiko's side, testing the waters, since her attention had been distracted to yell at Echo. Blade finished patrolling and made his way to Petra's den to check in on her. He approached the den, pausing at the new scent and absence of Niveus and questioned softly, "Petra, any updates?" There better be a reason his kin had left when he hadn't been introduced to the pack yet... although the other would only have himself to blame if he got attacked. Blade hadn't been able to sight the pack members who were unaccounted for, either. He had nothing new to report to Damean or Akiko for the time being.
Ryuu looked up at the sudden voice. It hadn't sounded like the wolf who'd been with him and Petra. It also didn't sound like he knew anything about the commotion the other wolf had left to check up on. This wolf remained outside the den, as if ready to leave again after receiving an answer, so Ryuu couldn't see any of his features. It sounded like this wolf knew Petra, though, so it was probably a packmate. He wondered how many wolves were in this pack and when he'd get to meet them all. Now that he was feeling a bit better, although still a bit unsure due to the earlier disturbance, he was ready to see what pack life was like and what normal life was like.

| Petra perked up in alarm as a wolf suddenly approached the den, but her tail thudded against the ground as she recognized Blade's voice. His scent washed over her, causing her heart to flutter. She glanced to Ryuu, nodding her head, letting him know it was safe to get up and go forth should he wish to, then she quickly darted to the den's entrance to greet Blade. As always, their duties kept them apart, and it felt like ages since she had last seen him. She wished to greet him more intimately, but she it was more important right now for him to know what was going on. She locked her eyes with his, parting her jaws to speak. "I've been caring for a young wolf who came with injuries, Ryuuketsu's his name," she told him quickly, nodding behind her. Ryuu seemed quite restless, and she was sure he would be eager to leave the den as soon as possible. But she had more dire information to share with him, and moved on to it quickly before introductions could be made. "There are intruders, seem to have just arrived," she reported, a worried furrow in her brow, "Echo sent up a call for help. Niveus took off, as well as a couple of the others." She knew Blade would want to go immediately to help his pack - how these invaders ever made it by his watchful eye was a mystery. Surely he would not take well to this news. The small hybrid fae no longer wanted to stay at her den; she wanted to see how the pack fared, and standby if need be. Perhaps they would all go together, although she still worried for Ryuu in his current condition. He was not too badly roughed up now, and was sure to be on the mend with increased energy, but he still shouldn't be running around, and certainly not involved with any more fighting. Still, she waited to see what would happen, and would decide what she would do in a moment. | |

| Every moment of silence that lingered after he words felt like a million lifetimes. She felt her heart pumping despair into her veins, despair which she wrapped around her heart and made it stronger. Damean had put so much faith into Echo would she betray them now? Before she ever had a chance to prove what could be? Snarls raged in the air and the clearing was filled with bodies but the beta's cerulean gaze was only interested in the words forming out of Echo's mouth. And when she did speak the tension broke like a wave, suddenly Echo declared whirling on Evon in a fury of fang and tooth.
Akiko snarl raged through the clearing and she was no greenhorn to fighting so her attention switched back to the fem who originally blocked her path. She could see blows being exchanged by Evon and Echo and sought to aid the young Queen. But as she glanced over it seemed her opponent had blocked a pass from Niveus but turned quickly to her and darted in for an attack. Snapping in her rage she dodged out of the way landing to the face the fae. The red was taking over but she must not become it's slave, she would control this battle rage as she always did. Snapping again her challenge her ears flicked at the sounds of battle around her. A quick glance told her that Echo was down moments before she issued the order to capture Evon. "Try and stop me bitch." She snarled and then she let loose 3 short howls calling the wolves of Jabbar to her, there was only one mission now. "Bloodeye finish it!" She growled before diving in at the fae's legs trying to snap at her pillars from the side. Put her on her toes, push her off balance. All she needed was one unguarded moment before her superior speed would push her through. She would not let Evon harm Echo, moments though they only had moments...Akiko could only hope Niveus would fight for them.

| He held back a curse as Petra explained the situation, having held back on reacting to anything until she finished speaking. Blade didn't verbalize his anger, but he was certain the cold silence and steeled eyes spoke volumes. His head turned to the side, not wanting to alarm his mate; it wasn't her fault, after all. "Thought I found the trail of a missing pack member." That had distracted him. It was at that moment, he heard Akiko's war summons. Now he was downright enraged. "Let's go. You, too, kid." He did remember the name, but for now, it was too long to say. It wasn't safe to leave him here if all the wolves had been summoned... and there was something about him. He turned to run towards scene without another word. Longer words could be exchanged later. Ryuu exited the den at Petra's ok, curious about these wolves of Jabbar, Egan the mongoose close on his heels. What he saw first didn't seem too intimidating, although something in the back of his head screamed Danger! while another added, Safe, like healer. Stay near! He'd nickname this first voice instinct and the second rational. He didn't know where these 'voices' came from, but now he was starting to differentiate them. He could understand rational, since this wolf was apparently pack and letting him live. But instinct? The wolf was lean of build and didn't look built for combat.
Then he saw the change in his eyes when Petra explained what happened and then the series of quick, harsh howls. He took an inadvertent step back at the look, noticing the wolf looked away, as if trying to hide his anger. Maybe instinct had somehow been right after all... Then a particular nasty voice he hadn't yet noticed, but felt very familiar feeling, boomed in his head Prey. A chill ran down his spine with this last 'voice.' There were no word to call it, but a word surfaced in his head... one he didn't want to use, even if it might have described this voice. It'd leave him with too many questions on top of those he already had. And it wasn't the time to think about this yet. The male them to follow him.

| Her target had moved out of the way. Figures. This wasn't a pure pack. She whipped her body around while her front paws touched the ground, causing her to fully land while, now, moving backwards a short distance. It was a violent move that, in some ways, probably looked oddly graceful at the same time had there been an observer. The tempest was starting to peak, but unfortunately, it seemed like it would get cut short before the storm could be fully unleashed. Those howls were loud enough to be heard by the pack, and Evon would recognize that. He'd pay attention to future commands, though her suggestion as bodyguard would be to retreat. Now. With or without the young wolf.
She gestured to the hired hand without looking away from her opponent. He'd been itching for a fight, so it was time for him to get back in the action, especially since the petite wolf had been looking to his previous opponent to aid her. Now, though, the immediate attack was from the petite wolf, so she lurched to the side, aiming her own jaws at the incoming ones. She was ready to get bit if her own jaws found their target. Can't be scared to get bit in a clash of fangs. Otherwise, there'd be no point in fighting at all. Would most wolves try to be more cautious and avoid it? Who cared? They weren't storms. She'd charge forward now. Who knew about next time? Niveus circled around the fight that broke out among Akiko and the burly fem. At first, he moved in a slower, carefree pace to avoid immediate notice from anyone. It may have seemed cold and uncaring, but the emerald-eyed fem would more more likely to break from her fight at a sudden movement. Any warrior for hire was trained for it and that sixth sense when a wolf got too close. He knew her type... the male's, too, having fought many, although the fem did seem to show actual loyalty. That part made her unpredictable. Once Akiko charged at her opponent after calling Bloodeye to her side, he waited a few seconds. He didn't know where the fem was going to act- Akiko or Echo, but he knew where he'd go. Wanting to be in the pack or not, he still reflected the fighting style of his home- any advantage an individual could get, even if that put a comrade in danger. If they were strong enough, they'd live. If weak, they'd die. Let the intruding male attack Bloodeye when she moves for an attack, and Niv himself only then would make a fast attempt to reach Echo. His goal? To aim an attack that would knock the leader off the young queen-to-be. Therefore, he aimed for the area above Echo, whether that be the jaws, throat, legs, anything.

| Petra could see it in his eyes; Blade was silently furious, seething below the surface. The only sign of it glaring through his expressive amber orbs. She didn't make any comment when Blade mentioned what had distracted him from the intruder - she knew it would only bother him more if she tried to convince him it was okay. He clearly felt deeply responsible for the safety of his pack. Instead, she would stand beside him, ready to aid the pack quickly, and to help him do his best. She nodded curtly when he demanded that they go at Akiko's summons, including Ryuuketsu in their little party. She glanced to the young male, nodding to him with a glimmer of assurance in her leafy green orbs. "Follow quickly," she said before darting quickly to grab a few scant supplies, at least enough to temporarily patch up any wounds her pack mates may have received. She knew she would be of no help for the battle, it was more urgent for her to bring some supplies. Once she'd gathered what she could in her jaws, she shot off hurriedly, allowing her limbs to stretch to their limits and carry her quickly over the terrain.
When they arrived, Petra was horrified to see a female wolf hovering dangerously over Echo, while her pack mates were wrapped up in battle with various other enemies. Most of the wolves seemed to be streaked with blood as the vicious fights escalated. Gazing thoroughly over the scene, she was glad at least to see that nobody was seriously injured or killed. But although Jabbar was holding its own ferociously, things did not look good for Echo, and she hoped that Blade's presence would help tip the scales.

| Blade ran ahead, Petra quickly catching up after gathering her supplies. Her being one of the fastest of the pack made it nearly impossible to remain ahead. There had been a weight on his back soon after he broke into a run, but a quick sniff told him it was the furball that was tagging along with the young wolf. The creature apparently understood the situation required haste and decided to leap upon something that was either faster than itself or wouldn't slow its companion down with the additional weight. He came to a halt to analyze the situation briefly. Niveus was attacking the fem above Echo. Bloodeye and a male were fighting, and Akiko and another fem were facing off. He barked, "Leave now, or die slowly," It was dangerous for him to intervene with an existing fight without a proper opening. An attack from him, who wasn't a brute force warrior, might mess up his ally's chance at a planned certain kill. While he didn't live under the belief that a strategist had to always be protected, there were too many unknown variables. Perhaps their sudden appearance might startle their foes, leaving an opening. Maybe seeing themselves outnumbered, they'd leave. Or, if they're incredibly thick, they would remain and die a slow death. Although, even if they listened to him, he never said anything about letting them live... Ryuu followed behind the older wolves, the mongoose having decided to hitch a ride with the orange-eyed male. When they got there, he suddenly wasn't sure if he should be there before his consciousness started to fade. Ryuu started to lurch forward, to dive into the fight, but something surrounded him, and he relaxed, though his body remained taut. Egan stood in front of Ryuu, coiled, but also unmoving apart from the occasional hiss and other sounds of anger. Blade didn't visibly respond to what he was noticing, but Ryuu's actions certainly surprised him. Without thinking of the potential consequences, he stepped so that his front legs were on either side of Ryuu's sides, a mild physical restraint like a two-legger might do to a sporting dog, rumbling, "At ease." Making sure the wolf wasn't moving from his spot, he said louder, hoping he wasn't misreading this new development, "My friend is ready to kill you all. Add him with the rest of this pack, and I'm afraid you're now vastly outnumbered." At his words, the body he was holding seemed to tense even further, as if begging to go on the attack. What happened to cause this radical change in what had appeared to be a timid wolf? It was similar but also very different to what he'd remembered in Echo. Blade would question him later. | |

| Just as the male was upon her, Bloodeye heard Akiko's order to her. They needed to get rid of these intruders, and stop Evon from whatever plans she had in mind. More furious than ever, her jaws snapped at the brute's legs, sending him toppling. She had hoped to stand over him and rip open his ribcage, but she had better things to do. She was free now, no longer tangled up in a pointless diversion. Like a wild, raging beast free of its chains, she bolted away from her opponent to find another, driven by Akiko's commanding growls. She quickly spotted Blade and the healer arrive, a young but unfamiliar wolf with them as well. Strangely, the youngster looked eager to join in the fight, but Blade held him back, sending out a warning to the intruders, making her curious about the young bru. But of course that would have to wait for later. Bloodeye looked to the fighting wolves, hoping to see the enemies waver when they realized their chances now. Blade's words were correct, these invaders were severely outnumbered, and the pack wolves were growing more and more agitated. Niveus had taken his opportunity, and was reaching for a hold on Evon. Bloodeye wanted a piece of that bitch, too, but so long as she was diverted by the male, that was good enough. She would help Akiko get rid of her opponent quickly, so they could all focus on Evanescence if she didn't flee. Not pausing for a moment, Bloodeye surged toward Akiko and the massive fae she was fighting. She launched herself forward as the two clashed jaws. She added danger for the alter, snapping her fangs near the fae's neck, but knowing she would not be so easily defeated. Feigning for a kill shot, Bloodeye darted suddenly to the enemy's rear, forcing the fae to split her attention between Akiko and herself. She was going to lose on one end, whatever she did. Bloodeye's jaws now lurched for the back of the large warrior fae's legs, allowing Akiko to take care of the front end. | |

| Instinctively Akiko knew when the rest the others had arrived, felt their presence in her bones, but now was not the time to look. The fem had dodged violently out of the way but Akiko could appreciate her style despite the killing rage that gripped her. And then she dove jaws snapping, Akiko was no coward and accepted the challenged pushing herself forward with all her strength she clashed into the fem, jaws interlocked, she felt her mouth and snout cut under the faes teeth but this was the glory of battle! Plus her own incisors were just as sharp and hers was not the only blood being felt. Snarling and snapping she back off, only to have the large shadow of Bloodeye dance past her right, feinting in for an attack but heading for the hind at the last moment, taking her cue Akiko again dove forward snapping at the fems face. There was little these wolves could do now, they were far outnumbered and she also registered Niveus's form darting in to find Evon's body...It would be a slaughter if they did not run now. | |

Darkness.
Darkness and thunder collided before the young girl's eyes. Was this what the onset of death felt like, fangs ripping into her skin, blood puddling to the dirty snow? She was numb to the pain now, and she knew she could close her eyes, but the lightning... The lightning that seared across the black clouds was too incredible to leave. She couldn't break away.
Life, though, still clung to Echo, as if there was a much more powerful force at play.
Evanescence raised her blooded maw, seeing the life sputter like a dying flame in the girl's eyes. She grinned, ready to deliver the blow that would bestow her with the honor of all of Lacrimosa, when suddenly she was hurtled to the ground by a male much larger than she into her hindquarters. A snarl rippled through her as she flashed her fangs, whipping around to tear him a new one, but his talons came first, reaping her of her right eye. Anger retaliated in the form of jaws at the hessian that stole half her sight, releasing Echo's choking neck from beneath her. Where the fuck was Corentine, her "faithful" bodyguard? She didn't expect the hirling to stay - she had given him orders only to kill, not to protect. Damn.
But she was Evanescence von Lacrimosa! She did not need protection!
Echo rolled onto her belly, blood dripping from her neck and shoulders, but she watched as more stained the earth in the mass of teeth and fur before her. She needed a healer, she needed Petra... but the fight drew her instead. She watched as Niveus tore Evanescence apart. It all looked so strange to Echo, though... They all had... a glow, an aura to their bodies. And Evon's was fading, fast. As if the fight, as if her soul, were leaving her.
Another wolf wandered onto the scene, between the birch trees that hid the burial mounds of Damean Jager Sr. This wolf, however, had no body to cling to. Echo recognized it as the silver ghost she had met many times, whose lavender gaze alone told her way she was here. Her tears sparkled like fresh snow as they hit the ground.
"Don't!" Echo croaked out to the fighting beasts. "Don't kill her!"
Her voice was weak, her command questionable. Sympathy compelled her to call off the pack, but she knew they would disregard that reasoning. Thus, she thrusted herself into the middle of it yet again, using the brunt of her shoulder to shove Evon away from the clash. The fem's body crumpled to the ground and it was Echo's turn to stand over her, bloodied jaws pulled back, tail raised, more dominant than ever before.
"You are my prisoner, and my kill!" she roared, voice cracking with adrenaline, but it did not affect her sure stance over the woman, whose single blue eye regarded her with confusion. Echo did not look twice to see if the pack would acknowledge this proclamation; they would accept it, because she was in charge now. It was what Damean wanted. It was what this ghost of Jabbar wanted. And it was what she would fulfill, because she knew it had something to do with her destiny, but now was not the time for such deep thoughts. Evanescence did not struggle beneath her, and thus Echo through her head back and released a long, triumphant howl of victory, cuing the others to join in, so that all would hear their song.
And when it was over, Echo leaned over to the fluttering eyes of the captured queen. "Death is too kind to you," she whispered, and saw the flicker of confusion in Evon's eyes, before they closed and she passed out. Echo was soon to follow, having lost so much blood, but not before seeing the vanishing form of the ghost wolf again.
One thing was certain, however: Evanescence would not be returning to Lacrimosa anytime soon.
| | OOC: Okay, getting things on the move now. We've been so incredibly slow... I think glaciers move faster than us. Anyways. This is my last post for this thread, and closes up the battle. It bothers me that it's not the greatest... Feel free to post any follow-up actions with your characters, but know that I will be making a new main thread relatively soon. Sometimes a fresh start is all we need. And I hope I was able to get everyone's character in the right place; if not, please let me know, and I will fix it! See you guys soon! | |
