Echo followed her teacher further into the woods, but they didn't get very far when he suddenly fell, his leg giving out. She halted, waiting for him to get back up, but she could see that doing so caused him immense amounts of pain. She came beside him, offering what little shoulder she had to support his larger frame. "I think you should rest," she said. "I'll find something for us to eat, and maybe some poppy. You probably sprained it." It was just a guess on what was really wrong with him; she had learned only the basics from Petra, and for all she knew, it could be a sign of something more severe than just old age. She didn't want to think about what would happen if it was, and at that moment, the sound of whimpering pups caught her attention. She looked up to find Bloodeye approaching, her three whelps clustered around her paws.
She listened to the exchange between the two older wolves, her expression falling to stone and reason. "Bloodeye's right," she said. "If you can't walk, you can't hunt. And someone needs to watch the pups." She said this aloud, but what she really wanted to say was, Don't worry, I've hunted before, it won't be long, or something to that effect. But she kept the softer side of her personality quiet, for now, as if she were pulling a mask over her own face in front of Bloodeye, since she seemed to already be wearing hers. She shifted her weight, letting him know that she was done supporting him, and came forth to Bloodeye. "Let's go," she said rather matter-of-factly; the quicker they could get the hunt over with, the quicker she would be able to rest again. She was tired, and mildly frustrated that Rawbones couldn't be with her to hunt, but she kept her mouth shut, not being one to complain.

| Bloodeye felt her pride tickled as Echo agreed with her. She rose to all fours, tail lifting into the air. She could see the fae's stoney expression, and knew deep down she probably wasn't pleased with the proposal. Now she looked to her whelps, and nudged them toward Rawbones. "Go sit with old man Rawbones," she cooed to them, casting a smirk in the old wolf's direction. He was gritting his teeth, but holding himself together in front of the whelps. The pups whined in confusion, protesting going closer to Rawbones, and not understanding staying behind without her. "I need to hunt now," she insisted, nudging them more firmly, "You can try a taste when we return." She licked them each, then turned away from them, watching as Echo moved toward her. The fae made her statement matter-of-factly, and Bloodeye grinned, choking down the growl that wished to surge free. She didn't want to let some youngster lead her around by the nose, but right now she had her reasons for doing what she did, and she would shove down her dominance. "Right," she agreed, getting ready to move swiftly, "Let's slaughter something tender and innocent." She glanced at Echo with a maniacal look in her eyes. She licked her lips, already knowing she wanted a taste of fawn meat. They would eat whatever they could find, but surely the woods would be full of desirable prey right now. This was the perfect time to find a wandering young animal and take it down before it even knew what was happening. Rawbones couldn't believe what was happening. He was being cast aside like some useless, rotten scrap of meat. Echo moved from his side, and he caught his own weight. Bloodeye herded the whelps toward him, introducing him to them as the old man. He tensed, wanting to rebel like a frustrated pup, but he kept his jaws clenched, lips tightly pursed. As the two faes got ready to depart in search of a meal, he sat down. Would she remember to seek out poppy from him? He hoped that she wouldn't forget him. The pups crowded around him reluctantly, and with a heavy sigh, he drew them in closer. "Best stay with me," he said gruffly, "They'll both be back once they've got a bite to eat." The whelps were clearly confused and worried, and nothing he could say would take that away right now. He couldn't play with them to distract them - his leg wouldn't allow such movements, and they were too young to wrestle with a bigger wolf right now anyways. They would just have to see for themselves that Bloodeye would come back. That was, if she would come back. He wasn't sure about her. Laying himself down, he would watch them set off, hoping they wouldn't be long... | |

It was a given that Bloodeye would lead the way. She was the more experienced hunter, and knew these woods far better than she. She hadn't been to these parts since she was very young, only a few months old, and with Damean; the only thing she could really tell was that the entrance to that place of fire and heat wasn't very far off. She wasn't about to go looking for it, though. No, that was just one of many her and Damean's secrets. Instead, she kept her eyes ahead, coming to about Bloodeye's hock, respecting her space but non-verbally letting her know that she was still attentive. Too close would be irritating. Too far away would be lagging behind. It was these small things that she had learned while with the wolves of Jabbar; finding the perfect medium of acceptance, though for some, it was easier than others. She was within snapping distance if Bloodeye chose that she was still too close, and it was something that she kept in mind.
The maniacal look in Bloodeye's glance was enough for Echo to understand that they would be searching for a specific sort of prey. There was plenty in the woods; squirrels chattered in the dense treetops, rabbits scurried to the underbrush at the site of them, and by what little wind carried through the land, a prowling lynx, likely on the hunt, just as they were. She didn't like what 'tender and innocent' insinuated, but she knew that she didn't have a choice; this was Bloodeye's lead, and it was she that would choose what to hunt and what not to hunt. Echo would tolerate it, but she didn't have to like it, her expression remaining hard. They would be killing something young. Robbing it of its life before it had a chance to grow. Harsh in concept, but a necessary evil. If they did not eat, they would not grow, either; and soon, Bloodeye would have more than just her own mouth to feed.
The sound of snapping twigs and rattling bushes caught Echo's ear. She paused mid-step, lavender eyes turned ninety degrees to her right, spying a small, shaded meadow between the trees. What was left of the orange sunset streaked between the leaves. She saw a large doe at the far edge of the clearing, and her stumbling fawn at the center, learning to walk. It was the perfect opening, but it was not her call. They were downwind and hidden by the shadows, and she looked to Bloodeye for instruction. The witch could decide on a different prey; this opportunity was perfect, Echo knew, but it was also far too easy. There was no challenge in it, or perverse 'fun' that Bloodeye seemed to be seeking. Echo didn't care either way, but she did know that she was hungry. That, and she wanted to get back to Rawbones. He was waiting.

| OOC: Moohn gave permission to move Conall along. And, I'm taking Skyfall out.Conall glared at Blade in response, his lip curled as if to say some snarky retort, but Skyfall accepted the challenge. The pack's eyes were on them now. Skyfall approached him, his eyes like steel; sharp, cold, and deadly. Conall turned and approached him as well, and soon, they were circling one another, waiting for whoever would make the first move. Skyfall's movements were patient, exact, defensive. Given Conall's temperament, he knew that he would be the first to strike, and that's what he was waiting for. Right when Skyfall thought he was going to, though, Conall jerked away. "Fuck this," was all he said, and turned on his heel, and vanished into the woods. Skyfall grunted, irritated, and glanced at Akiko. "This is why it's pointless to spar with children," he muttered. He rolled the muscle on his shoulders. "I'll be leaving you now, so you don't have to fret over such insignificance."
He was truly annoyed by the whole matter. All he wanted was safe, quiet passage; why would he have to prove himself when only making a temporary stay? His skills were his own. They did not belong to any pack, and he was not loyal to any orders. This country was much bigger than his now-destroyed homelands, and it was clear to him that there was refuge elsewhere. He would have to travel farther to reach it, but that would not hinder him. The journey was more important than the end or the start, anyways. He walked off in the opposite direction that Conall had fled, moving northeastward, where the wetlands rose and sloped into hills lined with flourishing trees, away from the mountains. He would find a new home somewhere else.

| As they moved in silence through the woods, hunters on the prowl, Bloodeye took note of the sounds and the scents that flooded the air. Prey was plentiful, and more than once she was tempted by a plump rabbit, but she was dead set on what she wanted, and she knew she would find it. She could feel Echo on her heels, and stole a glance at the fae every now and then as she scanned the forest. Her expression was unchanging. Just as the younger she-wolf paused, Bloodeye's ears flicked at the sounds that had caught Echo's attention. The scent hit her, and she crouched down, peering through the undergrowth and into the meadow where the fawn wobbled around unsteadily on its stilts. Talons dug into the ground. She had been hoping to find a fawn wandering on its own, out of sight of its mother. But this was perfect; the fawn was too young to flee, and its mother wouldn't abandon its offspring. She looked to Echo, feeling the fae's eyes on her.
"We'll take down the mother first, one of us on each side," she instructed, a wild hunger and delight in her eyes, "The fawn will fill up with terror... and it will taste even more delectable." A shiver ran through her. She looked back to where the deer shuffled about peacefully, oblivious to their impending doom. Bloodeye then crept forward, heading to the left - with a flick of her tail, she indicated Echo in the direction she should go. They wouldn't have to go far or worry about cutting off the deer's path or cornering it, as it wouldn't flee while its fawn could hardly walk. The doe would corner itself. The ivory bitch was pleased by the idea, tired and hungry from nursing her whelps, and still heavy with milk; a pursuit would not be in her favour at the moment. This would be enough. Feeling there was no need to wait, Bloodeye struck out from cover. Seeing the deer flinch and freeze, she growled low in her throat. It stood defensively, its black, beady eyes gleaming with determination, despite the fear that made its muscles quiver. Bloodeye went closer, darting back as the animal took a swing with a sharp front hoof. With a snap of her jowls, she snarled and harassed it, distracting it and leaving an opening for Echo to make an attack. Then she could strike as well, and they'd have it down in no time. The fawn would be even easier, as its legs shook and it bleated helplessly.

Echo perked a brow at Bloodeye's statement before continuing. Would the fawn really taste more delectable? At the moment, it was nothing but skin and bones. Echo herself had never had such meats, and she wasn't sure if she wanted to; she would let Bloodeye make the kill for that one. There was no time to question it, as their prey was at paw, and Bloodeye slinked away to the left, indicating with her tail for her to go right. The silver-streaked fae did so, sauntering in the shadows, still out of eyesight of the doe. She watched as the fawn stumbled again. She concluded to not thinking about how it would never learn to walk on its own.
Bloodeye burst from the undergrowth with a snarl and a snap. The doe stood her ground, throwing hooves and bleating loudly, the fawn collapsing with fright. Without having to be told, Echo sprang, and the doe turned just in time to see a pair of jaws come sailing towards her. Incisors pierced her tender hide as Echo's weight took her already-unbalanced body down, having been distracted by Bloodeye, and soon followed with teeth to her throat. Her legs kicked and thrashed beneath her, but Echo landed on her neck, pinning her down, and it came to an end when she ripped out the jugular. A thick, rich pool of blood drained from the spot, deep and lethal, and soon the doe's breathing and movement stopped altogether. It had been a quick, clean kill; only her maw was bloodied. She had the body of the assassin, both having been born from one, and being raised as one. Rawbones' lessons were paying off.
Everything had gone fine on the outside. The kill had been made without problem. But within, she needed to recover; her heart was beating fast and rushed in her ears, and the metallic sweetness of blood was on her lips. She knew that it was these things that called the demon, tempted it to come out and wreak havoc. She closed her eyes and stood still, listening to herself breathe, first fast and then slow, calming down. A brief moment of meditation. To her surprise, the demonic voice within her head had nothing to say, but she wasn't sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing. She opened her lavender hues again and glanced at the fawn, whose golden eyes were wide with intense fear, having seen its mother just slain by some wretched, silver beast. It couldn't run anywhere, it didn't have the strength to. And it had no one to protect it.
She glanced at Bloodeye, saying nothing. The fawn would be her kill, or her 'fun', as she seemed to be going about it. Echo had robbed it already of a life by taking away its mother; she ignored the dull pang in her chest, as she knew what that felt like. To grow up without a true mother. Now, this small family would be used to feed another mother and her children. How lucky they would be.

| Teeth gnashing on empty air, snarls ripping from her throat, Bloodeye gave the deer no indication that its dead would come from elsewhere. Crimson orbs remained deadlocked on the doe, even when she saw Echo from the corner of her vision come flying out of hiding. By the time the deer noticed its assailant, it was too late. The young fae had knocked it to the ground and within seconds her teeth found its throat, ripping open the jugular. There was no time for it to put up a fight. Bloodeye licked her lips as the warm tang of blood flooded her nares. She ripped her gaze away from the fallen prey and looked to Echo. She grinned when she saw the look in the fae's eyes before she closed them. Realizing the fawn was all hers to take out, she trained her deranged glare on the newborn creature. It cowered under her gaze, whimpering pitifully. Prowling forth, she allowed its fear to build, her tail thrashing the air with excitement as its fear-scent tainted the air. Having waited long enough, she lunged for the fawn, sending it sprawling. Her forepaw came down on its throat. The only things this creature would know in its short life were fear and death, and Bloodeye was glad to be the one dealing it.
Her jaws came down on the windpipe, clamping hard. The fawn struggled weakly, but it could do nothing to help itself, and within moments it went still. As soon as its struggles ceased, Bloodeye leaned into its belly and ripped open the gut, delving into the tender, nutrient-rich organs. She hadn't left the whelps in the den long enough to hunt anything, and her belly rumbled as she wolfed down her meal. Once the blood touched her tongue, she couldn't stop herself - she pulled out every delectable piece from the abdomen, and then started on the tender, fatty areas of muscle. At last she felt somewhat sated. She looked up, drawing in a sharp gulp of air when she realized she hadn't paused to breathe. She licked the blood from her chin, eyes falling on Echo. They should probably return to the old man with their catch - the remains of the fawn could be tasted by the whelps. "Excellent hunt," she commented, grinning toothily, "It really brings out the predator in you, doesn't it?" Shaking out her coat, she readied herself to help carry the doe, trying to situate the fawn's remains on top of the doe so it could be carried together. "Let's get back then," she said, digging her teeth into the deer, waiting for Echo to grab hold so they could start moving. Unless she had other ideas.

She did not look as Bloodeye set her bloodlust upon the fawn. She couldn't help but hear the vicious snarls, the tiny hooves shuffling in the dirt, the heavy breathing of prey before a predator; it made her heart race, but she could not distinguish if it was out of the need for the hunt or the urge to protect a defenseless creature that had yet to live a life. If it was an old buck, the answer would have been simple, but it was not an old buck. She glanced in Bloodeye's direction once the fawn was down and as she scarfed up her meal, and Echo took her turn to tear into the doe's flank. The meat was not tender but it was not tough; some strings fattier than others, given that the doe had given birth in the spring prior. It was not the sweetest, either, but Echo preferred it that way, as sweet things (as she guessed the fawn was) made her stomach pitch. She ate until she felt rejuvenated again, a decent snack, so that she would have the energy to bring it back to Rawbones and the pups.
Bloodeye returned to her and flopped the fawn's carcass on top of the doe's. The fawn's golden eyes were now dead, grey, and dismal. A life now faded. Ears flicked to Bloodeye's words, and the silver-dusted yearling nodded in response. "Thank you," she replied in a deadpan tone; she was just doing what needed to be done, what was necessary to survive. She took neither pleasure nor pain in the action. Did it bring out the predator? Naturally. And it was an instinct she wanted to reserve for hunting food only. She bent down and clenched her teeth on the other end of the deer, prepared to once again follow Bloodeye's lead. And, even though they were in a meadow, she had not yet spied any poppy for Rawbones. She would have to search when they returned to him.

| Bloodeye flicked her tail in acknowledgement of Echo's short words. It seemed the younger fae was trying very hard to avoid her suggestive conversations, her voice flat and clearly disinterested. But it merely made the older femora chuckle inside. You can't avoid your demons forever, she thought, waiting for Echo to pick up the other end of the deer. As the two faes heaved the catch, they moved quietly, each wanting to return for their own reasons. It seemed they didn't need to go far, and soon they were back to where the old man and Bloodeye's whelps had been left. Bloodeye dropped her end of the catch, tipping her head to Echo, and trotted over to where the whelps were. Once they realized who it was, they ran to her, whimpering. They were clearly hungry again and tried to nurse from her, but Bloodeye turned around, swishing her tail over them. "Come see what we have for you," she beckoned them quietly, leading them over to the carcass of the fawn. She dragged the remains off of the doe and placed it on the ground in front of the whelps. They were clearly confused, so Bloodeye tore off a chunk of tender flesh and chewed it until it was extra soft, then dropped it in front of the pups. "You bite into it," she told them, clacking her teeth, "Use those little teeth of yours, that's what they're for." The whelps moved forward, one more bold than the others, it bit into the softened meat, taking a small mouthful and chomping on it with tiny teeth. At last he swallowed it, and his little tail wiggled. His siblings soon followed suit, and in no time the small chunk of tenderized fawn meat was gone. As they waited around for the others to come back, the whelps wrestled fiercely with one another, seeming to have forgotten their mother's disappearance once the initial shock was over. Rawbones watched them with slight amusement. They certainly had spirit. He wondered what they would be like as they grew. Would they be like their mother, deluded and constantly isolated, or would they have enough sense to fit in with the pack? Sighing, he shrugged. All at once the pups settled down and huddled together, suddenly looking out into the woods. There was a solemn silence about them as they stared into the trees. Rawbones perked his ears, tensing his muscles to rise if need be. Any sort of predator could be out there stalking them in the night. He wouldn't go down without a fight, though, and he wouldn't let young lives be taken so easily. Then two familiar forms came moving through the darkness, dragging the kill between them. The whelps shrank down, still not uncertain. Rawbones nudged them. "I told you they would be back soon," he rumbled lowly to them, "Let's see what they brought back for us." The senior wolf dragged himself to his paws, keeping his weight off of his sore leg. He was getting used to balancing now, and limped over to where they had dropped the kill. He glanced to Echo, offering a little grin. "Good hunting, I see," he commented quietly. He didn't have much else to say, and moved toward the deer. Clearly Bloodeye had intentions to feed her whelps with the fawn's tender remains, but that didn't bother him. He'd rather have a large and filling meal. He limped over to the deer and dug in, relieved to be feeding his hunger. | |

They did not have to drag their kills very far to return to Rawbones and the whelps. Echo dropped the doe in unison with Bloodeye, who took the limp body of the fawn over to her litter. She demonstrated to them how to chew up the meat, and they devoured it in minutes. Rawbones took longer, given his injury, and Echo respected her distance. The night was dark now, but the silver moon filtered through the leaves, soon to be changing to orange and gold in preparation of the autumn season. Her heliotrope eyes seemed to glow in the dark, catching this fleeting light. She was exhausted, but refused to rest just yet. "I promised you poppy," she said. "And I will get that for you now, so you can sleep easy tonight. I won't be going far."
She turned around in the same direction that she and Bloodeye had just come from. The scent of the deer kill was still fresh in the air; it scattered the smaller creatures, such as squirrels and rabbit, but she knew it would draw in the bigger predators, who also would be roaming these dense woods at night. She slipped between the birch trees, silent as a fog, selecting a path guided by the moonlight. The shadows seemed to fall with her footsteps, and everything once more felt eerily familiar, as if she had been through these woods before, or something very similar. Her mind did not know it, but her heart did, though she could not understand it.
"Come find me..."
Echo halted in her tracks, breath caught in her throat. That voice. She knew that voice. She had heard when she had been with Damean, when they had been below the earth, in their secret place. It made her blood run cold and her heart stop in her chest, but she forced herself to listen. But, there was only the wind at this hour, the crickets having quieted after twilight. After several minutes standing as still as stone, she released the breath she had been holding. She inwardly chided herself as well; she should be used to these things by now, but it seemed that they would ever disturb her, menacing or not. Perhaps because she had an awareness that it was so abnormal, so unusual in comparison to the rest of the wolves around her. At the most, she could only hope that there was a reason for all of this. Someone had made her, so her creation must have had a purpose. She didn't have a mother or father to cling to and tell her otherwise. All she could do was guess.
She took only a step when the hair on the back of her neck raised once again. She looked up to find the soft, glowing hue of a wolven form standing between the trees. It was a wolf she had seen before - one that was slightly gold, with lavender eyes that nearly matched her own. Like the woods surrounding her, Echo felt compelled that she knew this mysterious ghost-woman, but she knew she did not. Even if she excavated the recesses of her mind, she knew there would be nothing to reveal. The femoral specter then turned, flicking her tail, beckoning for her to follow. Echo hesitated and dropped her head.
"I need to get the poppy for Rawbones," she said to her, even though she wasn't sure if the ghost would understand. She waited for the ghost to speak, but again, she was silent. She beckoned with her tail again. Echo looked up, somewhat hopeful. "Do you know where some is?" she asked, and the ghost nodded. Once more, the young wolfess hesitated, but her determination to help her teacher overruled her doubt. The gentle wraith slipped through the trees, though she left no tracks, no scent, no trace that she was even there. Echo followed, guided only by sight, through the thickest of darkness to a tiny clearing, where the moon shined upon a lush, secret garden in full bloom.
The ghost circled around a particular spot, and upon further inspection, it was where the bright red buds of the poppies grew, though their petals were closed. Echo did not pick them right away, and instead stood, gazing upon the ghost, a single brow arched. "Do... Do I know you?" she whispered, but the ghost only gave her a knowing look and small smirk. In the blink of an eye, she vanished with the wind, or perhaps she was the wind. Echo wasn't sure, now standing before the bed of poppies. They sprouted from a large mound of dirt, almost a shallow hill, plentiful and flourishing.
It was at this moment did she realized she was standing before a grave.
She didn't know how to feel. Sorry? Sympathetic? Who was buried here? What stories or secrets did they tell? This was far from the royal burial grounds of the King and the Queen... It was as if whoever had come here, didn't know they were in the lands of Jabbar, and... What had happened? How long ago was this? Clearly, it had been long enough for the poppies to sprout, but that could have happened in a mere season. Did it have anything to do with the female ghost she kept seeing? The questions seemed to never end to her. She would always be hunting for more answers.
A second wind surging through her, she plucked a bushel of poppies from the edge of the mound, not wanting to disturb what forces lie within the soil casket. She loped back to Rawbones, returning quicker than she had left. She dropped the poppies near him; all he would have to do is chew it. She panted, out of breath, and looked directly into his eyes. It was a look for only him, one that suggested she needed to speak with him, but they were still within earshot of Bloodeye. Rawbones would know; Rawbones would have the answer. He was the oldest wolf in the pack, wasn't he?
Surely, he would know who this ghost was that was haunting her so... It was almost as bad as the demon locked within her soul.

| The scent of their mother had returned. The pitch whelp fumbled towards her, eager for her milk, his insides already feeling empty and dry. He wrestled his siblings to the front, but was kicked back by his brother, who was larger and already stronger than he. A young, angry feeling rippled through him and he launched at him, biting his tail, when mother came near with something that smelled warm and sweet. It made him forget attacking his brother altogether, and he peeked through his eyelids up at his mother's blurry form. She had the warm and sweet thing in her mouth, chewing it, and saying something. Then she dropped it in front of them.
It was okay for mother to eat it. She left it there for them. He waited, seeing the steaming pile of redness, and then his brother dared to make the first move. He watched as his tail wiggled, and then he knew that it was fine. He came up beside his brother and chomped down into the meat, and oh, was it sweet! Better than mother's milk, even. His brother came near and tried to eat his portion and he growled, tiny obsidian muzzle already covered in fresh blood, the taste of it latching to everything he knew.
He and his siblings devoured the fawn in minutes. The meat made his jaw sore, though; his teeth were small and they hurt after being used so much. His belly full and warm, he laid down, paws bloodied as well, chewing on a bone that massaged his gums. It wasn't long, though, before he gave in to the lull of the warmth and the night. Sleep came to him and he welcomed it in.

| That was rather anti-climatic. Looking to Akiko, Blade said, "I'll ensure he's gone, and do a quick patrol for others. I leave Niveus here with Petra, unless you want him to do something. Tristan said he'd be near, but he might have tried to follow his son." He moved at a swift pace, following where the one called Skyfall had left, ensuring the trail exited the lands. Turning, back, he started a round, checking the scents along the way. The still-small trees were still growing, unable to match the great size of their parents for at least another decade or so, probably. The ground in places were stomped down from the stampede, some of the smaller trees broken clean off where they weren't tall enough for the elk to bother circling around. Then... came a familiar scent. Kai, was it? No... Kali sounded closer. As she was knew, she wouldn't be completely a fault for being lost, though he'd noticed she had been with the pack before the stampede... If she'd just keep her head up and not down, this wouldn't have happened... or if she used her other senses better. "Kali," he barked. It wasn't a question. No doubt this was her scent, but whether or not she was still here was another. | |

| He'd gotten separated from Otso. This most recent attack reminded him of the first two he could remember since arriving to the lands of Fire and Ice. The first occurred soon after he'd been traveling with the older wolf in the lone lands. The second caught them by surprise. Apparently whoever was behind that decided for the less direct approach, seeing the first failure. In either case, he'd been separated, being pushed further and further away until... it was a blur after that. Not the blur he had when he first woke up in the lone lands. The kind of blur when he was still confused about what happened. The same blur from his first fight. How had he done that? At least the pair had taken the time while traveling to teach... or maybe it was re-teach, Ryuu to do things like hunt large prey, track, and everything else he'd needed to know, in case of the worst.
This most recent attack, though, was the most aggressive. In the first two, he'd still been underestimated. Why hadn't be just tried into get into the pack in the ominous mountains? The old, old, too-thin forms of those... wolves had startled him. He could handle ominous mountains, but he'd never seen wolves like those travelers, and he didn't want to travel in the same direction as them, toward those mountains. So instead, he'd turned in the opposite direction, intending to get as far away as possible. It was when he got closer to the border of the pack that he was attacked... again. This time, aggressive and desperate, as if not wanting him to get close to the protection of a pack. If this meant the group after him wasn't that big... He was more determined to get into this pack, whoever they were. His attackers had placed themselves between him and the border. With a flurry of activity, he'd somehow tore through two of the wolves, leaving the third injured, and not confident about her chances alone, and fled instead of sticking around to fight. Ryuuketsu didn't care. He just wanted to not be attacked any more. Bruised and bloodied- a combination of his blood and dried and fresh blood of his attackers- he stumbled his way closer. He'd cross the lines before calling to the pack, where he'd be safe. Beside him, a mongoose was churring with aggression, also covered in blood, before it settled into a lighter, more conversational tone. "Egan..." There wasn't much to say the little guy, assuming they really had grown up together. He watched Egan move forward, the less injured, pausing every few steps to look back at Ryuu. It was as if the creature was concerned, but knew they had to push on. Nodding, he moved forward, a bit slower than his usual fast pace. He didn't think he had broken anything. Just cuts on his paws, face, and a gash or two on his sides. He only knew the bare basics of how to stop bleeding and infection. His thoughts scoffed, Yeah, the only thing assassins need to know. Everything else they probably have to deal with until later. He'd learned in that first fight some information from his aggressor... about himself. Supposedly, of course. He wasn't sure how much to believe, if any. Although, it did explain what had happened... From how Egan behaved to his own unconscious movements in a fight, though, the wolf had been pretty convincing now that Ryuu thought back. He stopped before they were too far into the territory, the mongoose moving from one side to another every so often, keeping alert for Ryuu, who was exhausted. Ryuu lifted his maw and howled, letting this pack know of his presence. With this task done, the year-old sat down, wanting so much to just lie down and rest, but knowing he couldn't. He didn't know what kind of pack this was... And until he knew, the mongoose would let him know if anyone approached.

| Bloodeye paid little mind to the others now that she had returned to her brood. She watched with amusement as they shoved each other to fill their bellies, and soon after they were drifting into slumber. They were still so small and young... she looked forward to the time when they grew and became useful, and lesser dependent upon her. She moved the whelps to a tree that was thickly surrounded by growth, then lay herself down and curled around them. She wasn't weary, though, and kept her head up and auds alert, as she watched her packmates go off to speak in private. She would have to watch for any dangers, and later she would bring her offspring to meet the pack. It would be quite a trek for them, but it was just another challenge to help them grow stronger and faster. Rawbones lifted his head, licking the blood from his maw as Echo spoke to him. Her lavender orbs seemed to glow in the moonlight, giving them a ghostly appearance. An interesting trait indeed. Rawbones let a brutish smile cross his mug as she said she would find the poppy for him. So she hadn't forgotten after all. "Be safe, Echo," he murmured as she took off into the night. He knew that there were always dangers lurking in the shadows, but one day she would be more than capable of taking care of herself; she had already come so far. He had to let the worry lift from his mind - she would be fine on her own, she had to be. It's not like you to fret so much over another, he told himself. Normally he felt confident that the wolves he cared about could hold their own. But Echo was so much different from the rest of them... not weaker by any means, but special. And she had become precious to him. He blinked as he tried to shake the thoughts from his mind, and buried his fangs into the deer's hide, taking his fill. His belly satisfied for now, Rawbones stepped away from the carcass and reclined upon his haunches, his ears pressed forward as he watched the darkness for movement. He ignored the murmurings coming from Bloodeye and her get. He awaited Echo's return. Her heavy breath and hurried steps alerted him to her approach. She burst into the clearing, coming to him and dropping the poppies she'd found. "Thank you," he said as he glanced to her ethereal glowing eyes. Something in that gaze seemed deeply disturbed, and her breath came heavier than it should have. What had happened while she was out? It was obvious that she needed to speak to him privately. He nodded, and glanced briefly in Bloodeye's direction. She was busy and distracted by her whelps. Then bent down and took a few of the poppy seeds into his jaws, chewing them to release the juices and swallowing quickly. A slightly bitter taste, he shook himself out and picked up the remains - perhaps they could take the rest to their healer later. He looked to Echo and nodded to her again, letting her know he was ready to walk with her and hear her out. ------------------------------- Petra lifted her head, stretching her jaws wide in a comfortable yawn. Her forepaws stretched out before her, and she gave the smallest grunt of contentment. She hadn't slept long and well like that for quite some time, and she felt completely revitalized. However, as she got herself to her paws, she realized her wounds were still sore, although they were on the mend. She winced as they stung with the stretching of her movement, but she wouldn't be held back by them any longer. She crept out of her den into the dark night, wondering how long she had slept. She scented the air, and noticed that her packmates were closeby, as well as some unfamiliar wolves. Their voices floated to her on the air, and she padded toward them, wondering what was going on. As she arrived, she saw some wolves dispersing, Blade's tail just disappearing into the undergrowth. He must have a duty to carry out. She glanced around to Akiko and Niveus, nodding to them both with a smile. "Is there anything in need of doing?" she asked, wondering if she could be of some use right now. She wasn't sure what had happened here, but everything seemed to be settled for the moment. | |

Echo was glad to see that her teacher was doing better, both after the meat and the poppy. She looked over her shoulder at the woods she had just fled from, searching for that pale, ghostly form of a wolf she felt inclined to know, but was only met with darkness and the moon, slipping between the pine needles. She sighed; perhaps it had been a figment of her imagination, but she was beginning to grow tired of these ethereal games. Rawbones stood, a sign to leave Bloodeye and her brood, and so they set on the path that they had come from, leading away from the meadow where they had been sparring earlier that evening. It was that time of night when the crickets were done chirping. Echo laid down near the edge of the meadow, very exhausted and needing of rest, but she needed her questions answered first. They would keep her up all night if she didn't ask them.
"Rawbones... You've been in this pack a very long time. I was wondering if you knew someone," she began, but found that she could not look directly at him. Instead, she turned her gaze down to her paws, shifting in the dirt. "She... I think she used to live here. Or something. I'm not sure. But I think there's a chance you might know her. I... I keep seeing her. Hearing her. As if she knows me, or I know her, but I know I don't. I don't know anyone outside of Fire and Ice." She sighed again, her nails digging into the dirt even further. "I don't know her name or anything, and I know that doesn't help. But she's a white wolf with a bit of gold, and eyes like..." Echo fell short, an epiphany striking her. She couldn't believe it... Could it be...? The feeling overwhelmed every reason in her head, and tears overtook her. She had to stop crying! But, if it was, what... What did that mean? She shook her head, trying to chase away her sobs, her lavender eyes now locked on Rawbones. "Is she... Was she... Do you think it's possible, that... She's my mother? My real mother?" she asked, her voice verging on the tone of desperation and exhaustion, her heart begging to know the truth now. But what were the chances? Any number of wolves in the world could share eyes like hers; it was possibly only mere coincidence that this ghost did. Regardless, a spark of hope had lighted in the young seer, and she couldn't believe that she hadn't noticed it before.
"Please, Rawbones," she said with pleading eyes. "Tell me the truth. I need to know."

| As the light from the sun slowly faded to darkness the strong light of the moon seemed to light the forest slightly in its silver rays along a particular path that was surrounded by large oak trees that stretched for miles. The surroundings would be silent as no creature seemed to emerge in the night the only thing once might hear, would be the faint flow of a river near all seemed clam. At lest to though whom didn’t know any better Moving throw the domain she could be seen flicks of ivory stood out against the darkness before a young feminine canine emerged from the shadows of the trees, her warm amber orbs draped over the region before her as she absorbed each detail of the domain before her as if she was in pure daylight, her revivers remained pecked upright and alert as they rotated upon her head. To her this domain was strange and new it was a rear occurrence for her breed to be spotted within these lands, she was a breed of Arctic-wolf and was normal within snowy mountains however to ensure her survive she had ventured down in to the dark forests. Moving onwards she moved with stealth as her located her paws skilfully over the domain ensuring that they would not rest upon any article of shrubbery that would revile her location to soon, A soft whine vibrated from the females vocal cords as irritation began to set in, she knew that she need to find shelter and or food sooner rather than later with this knowledge she allowed her appendages to gain speed soon she was ambling though the domain her paws continued to be silent her warm breath caused a light white mist to appear in the cool air as she exhaled, her tail soon became level with her spin in order to allow her frame to become streamline and gather more speed and to balance as she swerved trough sharp turns. The whole movement of her body was created in a blink of an eye each aspect of her body moved in a steady rhythm of her delicate paws as a trail of her lavender scent filled the path she was in Skidding to a stop the female spotted a river. Due to travelling quite some distance her body now begged to sooth the irritation in her throat that was the burning itch of dehydration caressing her salmon colour tongue over her lips she slinked closer to the water edge before stretching her slender figure out over the water. Balancing quite easily she lowered her head before lapping up the cool water, once finished she allowed her lungs to exhale in a slight sigh dragging her now exsausted frame from the river she lowered herself under the protection of a tree resting her head upon her paws she allowed her thoughts to wonder she knew there was a pack of wolves round these parts however the exact location was unknown, falling in to a light sleep her revivers still remained alert in case any creature were to arrive- | |

| Rawbones followed Echo slowly, the sedative effects of the poppy seed beginning to kick in. The pain in his leg melted away, although the old man was still aware of his injury and walked rhythmically with a limp to avoid worsening his condition. As he shuffled along, following the ghostly white tail tip of Echo's form, he became increasingly aware of the silence surrounding them - it was truly the dead of night, when not even a lonely cricket chirped. The first autumn dew had settled on the growth around them, and starlight glittered on the droplets. The scenery had him grinning in somewhat of a daze. However, as Echo came to a halt and sunk to the ground in exhaustion, he was brought back to attention, remembering that she had wanted to speak to him. Rawbones settled himself nearby, tucking his limbs close to his body to get comfortable. Her voice cut through the quiet, crisp night air, her words catching his interest at once. His memory was being called upon, but would it be of any use?
She looked down, as though ashamed or afraid, though Rawbones thought she needn't be. The more she spoke, the more he confused he became.. until he realized she spoke of ghosts. She could see and hear the dead, as though they were right in front of her, alive. Though he'd heard of seers before, he had never met one, but now he was certain that Echo had been born with some power that was truly different than any other wolf he'd ever known. His thoughts strayed for only a moment. Would new powers develop? And how could he possibly help her to improve upon something that he had no knowledge of? Perhaps his skills as an assassin and warrior would be of no use to her after all... perhaps her true purpose lay in the role of a skilled healer and advisor, or something much greater, beyond that of normal pack life. He wondered what else she could see... could she see the life auras of those around her? She'd never mentioned it before, but then... how would she know that what she saw was any different from what others around her saw? Would she be able to see... how long did he have left? He often worried that his story was drawing to an end, though he felt there were many chapters left unwritten...
Blinking away such inward thoughts, he focused back onto Echo, onto her own worries. She described the ghost, and then she seemed to pause, coming to a conclusion of her own. Eyes like what? He tilted his head. Hope lit her eyes with a glint of tears, and he was taken aback when she asked if it could be her mother. Asked what he thought. Asked for the truth. There was such desperation and hope trembling through her voice. He had to take a deep breath, knowing that for her, the answer he gave would affect her greatly. But what could he say to her? He couldn't see like she could, and he didn't know what she had seen while she'd been out. For a moment he felt his thoughts scatter, and endless questions filled his mind about what this could be, and what it could mean - he wondered if this was how Echo felt all the time. As he searched his memories for anything like she described, he found himself at a loss. He couldn't give her an answer. He was too old. He had seen too much. He couldn't remember just one wolf from the past, one that may or may not have been here at some point in time.
"Echo.." he began, hoping that the words would come out the right way, "I don't know what you saw out there... and I can't give you clear answer on what it was. But what is clear now, is that you can see things that others do not..." Would she understand how it made her different? Would she be able to find her purpose in it? "I don't know if that ghost was your mother," he continued, clawing the grass lightly, "But I would be careful if I were you... who knows what ghosts are up to. I hear they can be tricky... maybe some are good, but there are demons as well..." He knew she knew all about demons - the one inside of her was vengeful and loud. Was it capable of playing tricks with her seeing eyes, of being so deceitful as to gain her trust through such images? Rawbones didn't have the answers to any of these questions, and he was beginning to feel quite sure that he couldn't help her. He would do what he could... he would support her, protect her and try to guide her, but that was all he could do. He wondered if she would be able to sleep at all now, with her questions left unanswered, hope swelling in her chest and confusion twisting through her mind.

He didn't have the answer. She tried to hide her crestfallen face, so lit only seconds ago, as well as push down the sudden anger roiling in her chest. There was no point in getting angry; who was she to hold him responsible for memorizing every single wolf he had ever met? And then here he was, trying to give her advice about these ghosts, like she couldn't tell the difference between the good and the bad. She knew the difference. She felt it whenever she saw them, whenever they came near her, ever since she had stepped into Jabbar Junayd. She had seen the white wolf on her way in with Exodus, so long ago, standing near the mushroom-capped stump at the center of the pack's meeting grounds. Or, even when she was in that underground cave with Damean, she had heard that white wolf's voice whispering to her, echoing off the damp walls deeper into the darkness. And now, in the thickness of the wood, she had seen her again... Of course, it wasn't just this white wolf she had seen. She had looked into the water countless times and seen the demon that Rawbones so warned her about, and she knew it was just a reflection. She didn't need him to tell her what was good and what was bad when she had been aware of it her whole life. She didn't like the way he talked about it, like it was something special... She was tired of everyone treating her like that. Like she was special, or that she had some sort of ability, or... Echo grew wearier and wearier the more she thought about it. She had to reason with herself - again - that there was no point in getting angry with him.
The exhausted yearling laid with her back to a gnarled maple tree and rested her head on her paws. "Thank you for looking out for me," she said, despite her current feelings towards him. She was grateful. She was simply, and completely, tuckered out. "I... I don't think anyone else would have. And you didn't have to. So... Thanks." She was too sleepy to say anything beyond that. She closed her heliotrope eyes and listened to what sounds permeated the darkness of the woods... The soft rustle of the autumn leaves, now changed. The gentle rush of the water from the stream not far away. And, the sound of a soft whine... One that made her lift her head, the voice of it unfamiliar. They were too far away from Bloodeye's den and the rest of the pack for it to be anyone else. She looked to her teacher. She didn't want to speak, in case this individual heard them, but her eyes were enough to tell him what was on her mind: Should they approach this wolf? Are they in danger?
Echo slowly rose to her aching feet. She wasn't sure what action to take just yet, but she would be prepared. It was these sort of things that Rawbones was training her for, anyways. She really wanted to rest, though, and if he told her to stay put, she would, but remain on the lookout for any other dangers or disturbances. She waited for him before doing anything further, but she really couldn't help but wonder who was coming in the territory at this hour of the night.

| She was utterly disappointed; he did not have the answer she had built her hopes upon. Her demeanor began to shift, and though she tried to hide it, it became clear to Rawbones that she felt at odds with him. Whatever he had said, it clearly had rubbed her the wrong way. He had always known that there was something special about her, but he hadn't been sure what it was. Now he knew, but she seemed disgruntled by this, as though she wished... that things were just somehow different. But it was only the truth... why did she try to deny it with such anger? He watched her for just a moment as she rested her back against the tree, weariness showing through her. His ears tilted back and he shifted away from her, staring off into the glittering darkness. Her voice reached his auds, but the words sounded hollow and he flicked an ear in acknowledgement, offering a mere grunt as he laid his head down. Soon his lids had drooped closed, drawn into a groggy state of resting as the poppy seeds kept the pain in his leg at bay.
Though there was no sudden movement or noise, he felt jolted back into consciousness when Echo's eyes landed on him quietly. He sat up as she seemed to indicate to something in the woods. He hadn't heard a thing, but as he drew in air through his nares, he caught on to an unfamiliar wolven scent. Who could it be at this hour? He got to his paws, only to find that he was having trouble steadying himself. As he tried to balance his forepaws to support his injured leg, he found that his hind would slump, forgotten. Blinking, he tried to shake it off, stumbling slightly. He looked to Echo, giving her a nod to indicate that she should go forth if she intended to see to the intruder. He would follow her and stick to the shadows as he tried to get a grip of himself.

| Niveus turned to see Petra up and about, and smiled in greeting, but had no answer. Akiko, perhaps, would answer. He heard a howl from a young voice, a bit faint, and frowned, seeing as Blade had been going a different direction. Was there anyone to check? Instinct drove him to want to look, but he didn't know the land, and he himself was still pretty much a stranger to the pack. "Should someone check on the foreigner? He sounds young." Odd, since there was no war that he'd caught wind of, but not unheard of. In either case, picking up youth wasn't always a bad idea. They generally were useful, although that one youth- Conall, seemed to be an exception. He was a bit glad that fight never happened- being the type to prefer being in the fight than watching from the sidelines.
"Nothing seems amiss, but perhaps we can see who it is, Petra? It would be good for me to get a feel for the lands and get to know my just-discovered sister-in-law," he suggested. Blade had picked well... or perhaps he was the one to be picked? Niveus never got the impression Blade would have been the type to actively be on the lookout for a mate, considering. Either way, he wondered if she had been with the pack before Blade, because he wasn't sure how a wolf like her ended up in this pack. It was clear the members of this pack weren't wrecking havoc and chaos, but they were far from pure, at the same time. There was no way Blade could end up in a pure pack. Both of them were tainted from that kind of life, even if they wanted it for some reason.

| Petra looked up from Akiko as Niv spoke. It wouldn't be a bad idea to check on someone unfamiliar in the territory, and she had heard the faint howl in the distance as well. He also suggested that he could get to know her, and she smiled - she hadn't really thought about it before that they were now family related through Blade. She hadn't had family since she was a yearling, besides the pack, so this would be something new for her. This could be a good chance for her to get to know Blade's half-brother better, and see what he was like in the absence of his sibling's looming presence. It would seem that Akiko did not have anything planned for them at the moment, so the hybrid fae nodded in agreement to Niveus. "Let's be on our way, then," she said softly, nodding to Akiko as she padded away, heading in the direction from which the howl had come. Her tail curved over her back as she took her short, quick strides, feeling much better after her rest. She glanced toward Niv, wanting to say something to him, but feeling shy and reserved - unless she was speaking with someone familiar or healing wounds, she felt at a loss for words and action, depending on others to speak or give direction. | |

| He followed after her lead, walking by her side, noticing her quiet nature. "I'm glad to see you're faring well. Let's see... I've never claimed anyone as my own mate... well... almost did, at any rate. It's a long story, but basically a... crazy fan, we'll say, slipped something into my food when I wasn't looking. Luckily she was wasn't competent with mild poisons and it made me more sick than she intended and had to summon a healer before she could get me to unknowingly professed my undying love. Lots of weird stuff happened in my life, I'll tell you. I've forever after inspected my food closely before consumption. What else is interesting... I have lots of odd war stories. Maybe hobbies, then? As hypocritical as it might sound from your perspective, I like being with family. Also trying out new things- I like being involved in extreme activities.
"How did the two of you meet anyway? I can't imagine my younger sibling being a charmer with words," Niveus commented. He figured the sharing before asking technique would make conversation a bit more natural and relaxed. It was too bad all his stories were high activity and probably had little in common with Petra, who was probably either more gentle, or more cautious.

| Content within the confines of his mothers embrace Noxus lay stretched next to his siblings happily digesting meal that she had brought them. Never before had he thought something could taste so divine, he still felt the urge to suckle though...but was scared of his mothers harsh rebuke. He eyed her stomach plaintively but made no move for a teet, it was just as well though, they were getting bigger. Sighing happily to himself he closed his eyes, briefly lulled he drifted in a half awake state for some time. Then in a very puppish fashion he awoke, a yawn escaping his tiny jowls and stretched out his limbs, making sure to push into his brothers relaxing form. Smiling devilishly he was up in a moment and on top of his black siblings gnawing on his ear. Surely they could play for some time before they went back to the dark of the den! | |

| The pearled female continued to rest, her breathing silent as she made no sound what’s so ever the only way one would see that she was still amounts the living would the rhythmic rising and falling of her chest cavity and the slight rotation and twitch of her rounded receivers. Her mind travelled deeper in to her so called dream a world of paradise that any creature would die to enter, in this world she walked though the lush snow paths yet under her pads the snow didn't seem cold, within her sights she caught sight of a small pack. there pelts as white as the snow as they all five rested, a mother laying and keeping a watchful eye on two young pups yapping and playing in the snow while another female slightly older the pup rested by the mothers side talking in soothing words in the far distane the father... the alpha walking off seemingly to hunt or portal the area... so peaceful.. so familiar taking a step forwards pandia smiled, home she was final home. bounding onwards she parted her lips to speak, though before she could she stopped, the alpha made a sudden return a weak howl passing his lips as a trail of crimson stained the snow, startled the rest darted to his side with worried looks, horrid squeals and barks echoed the area the mother understand simply glanced to the other fem, before she nuzzled her dieing mate and whispered sweet words before she stood over him. the other fem griped a pup, female before she ran off and hid her under the some burrow in the snow before returning, only to grasp the other male pup to late a large pack enclosed them the mother snapping hopelessly to defend the rest. pandia frozen to the spot finally moved and tried grasping the other male pup - ill take him aunty ill take him -she whined though the wolf didn't respond and just stood there. from the hiding spot the young female pup watched with fearful eyes though did what was ordered and hid.... pandia turned still trying to get the mothers attention only to be cut off as a large black wolf lunged at her....... darkness seemed to be ever ware.. the ivory female now sitting upright and panting was shocked from the horrible nightmare that was her childhood, glancing round her she gained her surrounding one more , the night air and atmosphere soothing her slightly, folding her ears back she rested her head on her paws one more as she she tried to calm her racing heart beat. | |

| Petra tilted an ear to Niv as he spoke, warmed by his open nature, which caused her to wonder about Blade's dislike and distrust of him. Perhaps it all really had been just a misunderstanding. A light, chime-like chuckle escaped her as he opened up by saying he'd never taken a mate. It was too bad, he seemed like such a dependable wolf, but perhaps the mate for him was still out there somewhere. She lifted her brows as he went on to tell her about the fae who tried to poison him. Why would anyone do such a thing? Niv didn't seem bothered by it, though, so she offered a smile of amusement, nodding her head as she listened. He was quite the opposite from Blade, talkative and active. As he mentioned he liked being with family, she couldn't doubt him - he seemed quite enthused to be in Jabbar with his half-brother, despite how Blade was at odds with him, and he seemed quite intent on making conversation and getting to know her as well. He must have been quite lonely before he'd reached these lands, and she couldn't help feeling a little glad for him now that he'd found family. Her smile widened into a grin, and she blushed as she looked to the ground when he asked about how she and Blade had met. Back then, she had been even more reserved and afraid of the wolves in Jabbar, despite having been born in these lands. Her step-father Zeke had been watching over her during her first season in heat, and she had stuck to him like glue, afraid of what might happen to her if was without him. Then she'd met Blade for the first time... "Well, you see.." she began, her voice quiet but still loud enough for Niv to hear, "I was born in Jabbar but... I was left behind by my real mother. There were others who helped raise me, but I was always scared of the wolves here..." She glanced to Niveus, feeling slightly embarrassed, as she'd never spoken about this to anyone else, but glad to share her story with someone who asked. "Then I met Blade," she continued, a glint of daydreams flickering through her leafy green pools, "I felt like I could trust him right away, even though he was older than me and hadn't really noticed me much when he first arrived." She chuckled, remembering how she had watched him quietly from afar, afraid to reach out to him but desperately wanting to. "I pursued him for the longest time, but I was much too shy... it was so hard to admit my feelings back then, that very first time. But it was all worth it, every moment." She smiled, then blushed again, surprised at herself that she had said so much. She hoped Niv wouldn't mind, even though he had asked how they'd met. Surely it was natural for him to be curious about his half-brother, and what had happened in his life since they'd been separated. Many seasons had passed, and it must feel strange but familiar in a way. She wondered what it would be like if Zeke, or Macwise, Dusty or even Topaz were to suddenly return. It would be both wonderful and terrifying at the same time; they had all left by choice, so what would ever bring them to return? Shaking her head, she knew none of those wolves would come to Jabbar again, so she needn't think about it, and instead could get to know a new family member. | |

| He chuckled, but it was clear it wasn't at her. It was just the image of Blade being so... thick. His living kin was smart and caught onto things, but only of things not related to him. It was sad, though, the idea of being abandoned. Of course, in his homeland, there were many things that were worse, but to a wolf who didn't grow up cold and remained this warm hearted? That wasn't right. It was good that she had those who cared, though. That was true family. From experience, he knew blood wasn't necessarily family.
"Yeah, I can probably imagine. He does have that... feeling about him that things will be fine, despite his outward appearance... He's always been lean. Made me worried someone might have bitten him in two, but he always did have a sharp mind on him. He might have turned out different if it weren't for Father, so it's hard to say if I could truly hate the old wolf. Glad that things worked out for the two of you, though." He opened his maw to say something else, but an angry hiss interrupted whatever was going to come out. Niveus took a few quick steps forward to position himself between whatever it was and Petra, his only thoughts being the safety of family. Niv growled warningly in response, in warning about stepping into others' territories with such aggression. Just moments after, though, he dropped his defensive stance, and said, "Blood," before cautiously pressing on, ignoring the unseen hisses. Just as a small figure sitting on the ground became visible, a smaller object flew into his face, and he merely ducked out of the way, watching the figure, apparently a mongoose, quickly turn to adapt a protective stance in front of what looked to be an injured yearling, a combination of blood from more than two wolves. He looked to Petra, as this was her expertise.
He heard voices, but not the words. There was more than one wolf approaching. Wouldn't a pack's leader or a single scout come? He shivered as Egan left his side, not knowing what the mongoose was planning. Not long later, the little guy came back after giving a large wolf a warning attack. Ryuu whined at the mongoose, trying to stop another attack. Surely, the large wolf would kill them if he were to become annoyed. Luckily, Egan seemed to listen and settled back at his side, but continued to hiss lightly, warning the large, white pelted wolf, completely ignoring the smaller hybrid. Ryuu remained silent, waiting to see what would happen. Did these wolves live here? What would they do? He didn't know if he could fend off another attack. Then again, that's what he thought last time. He didn't want that to happen again.

She watched her teacher rise from his slumber, and a wave of guilt coursed through her. He needed rest just as much as she did, but she could handle being awake and moving around for a much longer duration than he could, at the moment. She wanted to rush to his side and help him up, but to do so would have insulted and embarrassed him. It would have for any aging wolf, really, unless they were injured. He was injured not because of a violent battle, but because of his years.
She didn't want to think about the day that he wouldn't be there when she needed him.
But for now, she looked at him, lavender eyes retaining their semi-glowing hue. She could see the pain all over his face, even if he tried to hide it. "Stop," she said softly, not commanding him, but enough to get his attention. "I can go. If there's trouble, I'll call you, or the rest of the pack will come running. You've... You've taught me plenty about handling myself." And she spoke the truth, here. He had taught her - and continued to teach her - so much. She was just a few months shy of being fully grown, now; her silvery-white coat became thicker for winter each passing day, and though she had yet to experience her first heat, she had no doubt that it was around the corner. Fact was, though, she could defend herself... Much more than before. Her form was fit, her skills honed, and she still had room to grow. "I'll be back."
Light paws turned away from him; she didn't want to give him room for a response. She knew he was stubborn, and would probably follow her, but at the same time, she hoped that he listened. It was for his benefit, afterall. Safe to say, though, she didn't have to walk very far to find the stream that she and Rawbones had frequented earlier. She paused along the banks, listening to the rippling of the water over the rocks, and inhaling the scents of autumn; sweet leaves, crisp fog, and the smell of an unfamiliar wolf caused her to turn her head upstream, where a white female lay, her head on her paws. Echo turned and approached, her shadow stretching ahead of her, reaching the stranger before her silhouette.
"Kind of late to be wandering into unknown territory, isn't it?" she said in a deadpan voice, but still curious. She wouldn't let this stranger know what kind of wolves lived in Jabbar until she found out who she was, first. She would display neither kindness nor threat. She would wait, indifferent, perceiving this newcomer before proceeding. She raised a brow. "How long have you been resting here?" she asked, tail raising slightly, taking control of the situation. This was her home. Despite her doubts, it was the single thing that she knew was certain.
