| He was only a few months old, and sitting in a pool of blood under the full moon. This wasn't his blood, though, but a male's. Little did he know this male was his late father. At one point, he knew, the problem was... he couldn't remember anything that happened. Beside him was a young mongoose. A pup, just like him. Oddly enough, he remembered the mongoose shortly after the creature had been born. Somehow, they had met and bonded, never straying from the other's line of vision for very long. The name of the mongoose... "Egan... what's going on? Who is that? I didn't do that... did I?" he whispered, as if scared he'd startle the creature. By now, he'd been sitting for many hours, the sun already shining, announcing the morning.
The mongoose pup looked up, recognizing his wolf pup friend. He knew who the dead wolf was, but didn't know what happened to him. Egan remembered their past, but apparently his friend seemed to have forgotten that, too. He shook his head, as if telling the pup that no, neither of them had killed the wolf. Uncurling himself from the pup's side, he climbed on his back carefully, looking for injuries on the pup. There was a bump on his head, so maybe that's why he forgot. settling back on the ground, he gently tried to tug the wolf pup away from the deceased. Although young, the mongoose was smart. If his wolf friend remembered that or not, it didn't matter. He'd make sure the both of them survived. He knew how to hunt, but he did not want the youngster out of his sight.
The Tibetan wolf pup followed easily enough, scared because he couldn't remember anything. What was his name? A word name to mind, and he asked, "My name's Ryuuketsu?" He saw Egan nod, and was glad he remembered that much... and that he had a friend... even if he wasn't a wolf. He closed his eyes to collect himself. Opening them again, his silver orbs gleamed, a hint of orange dancing with determination to survive. So, he only remembered Egan, and just barely remembered his name. Did that mean those were the only things he really valued? He had a companion he somehow knew he'd trust with his life, who felt the same as he. The fear, for the most part, was gone. Yeah. They could take care of themselves... but first... Ryuuketsu lowered himself to the ground, away from the dead wolf, but blood still covered him. He noticed with a weary eye Egan hovered protectively, showing no signs of going to sleep any time soon.
((Playing around with a pup with amnesia from trauma. Anyone's free to approach, although considering his name, he'll probably end up as a dark wolf))

| As the moonlight flushed over the barren night landscape, large, clawed mitts scuffed through the sands, carrying the rugged form of an old male. He moved at a trot with a little bounce, daring not to betray his age by lumbering along like some old coot. His tail was hooked high in its usual position, though his head was even with his shoulders. Stained, jagged teeth could be seen under his lips, and a forked tongue slithered around his parched lips from time to time. He was not yet entirely familiar with the lands, and so he was simply wandering in search of some malicious purpose. In the meantime, the scent of wolven blood drew in the demonic creature, driving on his morbid curiousity. He wondered who had died, who had done the murdering, and what was left for him to salvage. Perhaps he could quench his thrist on another's blood, or finish of a half-dead rival. I need another life to destroy... he thought, his eyes coming wide as a dark, moonlit figure came in sight. He soon saw the frame of what had drawn him in, but what intrigued him more was the youth left all alone in a pool of blood. Except for some mangy creature hovering over him.. Hellscream did not focus on that, however. He could dispose of the thing and have it for a snack should he so choose. But his mind raced. A mere whelp... so easily corrupted, he thought with devilish glint in his eyes. He approached the odd duo, breathing his foul breath upon them. The mongoose seemed protective, standing over the whelp. Hellscream snarled, showing his maligned fangs and horrid jowls. "What's vermin like you doin', pretending to stand greater than a wolf?" he rumbled, snapping his jaws at the creature, "What are you gonna do if I threaten your charge?" He waited, wanting to see the reaction of these pitiful creatures before he decided upon his next course of action... | |

| This large, male wolf looked dangerous. Egan backed up, accurately avoiding the wolf's snapping jaws, lightly kicking at the pup's paw to wake him up, then he stood his ground, hissing. Any move a wolf make was slower than the motions of a snake, so there was confidence to avoid any moves the large brute would make.
Ryuuketsu heard a voice, but thought he was still sleeping until he felt something lightly kick him. Snapping his eyes open, he looked towards the commotion. Before him was his angry friend facing a... He almost flinched back. The wolf was large, much more so considering how small his body was. He wasn't quite a year old yet, but he was still small and useless in a fight against even a wolf past his prime. Unfortunately, although old, this wolf still looked to be quite energetic. There was no point in running- the wolf would easily catch up to him. The only options were to see if talking gets him anywhere, as he'd have no chance were they to fight. Egan wasn't fighting yet, and the brute appeared to be just... standing there. Almost stumbling in his haste, he stood up and faced the wolf, trying to ignore how scary this stranger was.
"What do you want? Are you the one who did this?" he asked, stepping next to his smaller friend and using a paw to push the mongoose back a bit, effectively silencing the hissing. Ryuu also wanted to know who he was, but didn't know how to ask it without sounding scared or being demanding. It would be ridiculous of him, probably still viewed as a pup, to act like he actually stood a chance against a fully grown wolf. He wished he could remember what happened. Was this wolf coming back to finish what he'd started, seeing that there had been survivors, or was he just passing by? He clearly wasn't a very nice wolf based on his appearances, and looked like he could have caused this bloody scene.

Hellscream eyed the creature that hissed at him. He looked like quite a tasty little morsel, but the nightmare of a wolf left it be. It seemed quite attached to the youngster before him, and he didn't want to drive the pup away, if his appearance hadn't already convinced him to get as far away as possible. Movement caught his eye and he quickly glanced to the pup. Amusement glinted in his dark, chestnut orbs as the youngster nearly stumbled as he tried to get to his feet, clearly surprised at the sudden appearance of some grim-looking stranger. Though his expression always remained stoic, Hellscream felt somewhat satisfied by the pup's startle. Forked tongue flicked forth, further assessing the boy as questions were asked. He craned his neck around casually, looking to the cold, still body that lay nearby, then looked back to Ryuu. "You're asking if I did this?" he inquired, cocking his head; then he scoffed, "I promise, it wasn't me. Had my teeth touched his pelt, he wouldn't be recognizable.." It was rare for him to go easy on anyone he planned to destroy; there was no fun in that, and he felt it would only make him less vicious to kill someone easy. He had no need for being soft.
Cold, soulless eyes examined the youngster, trying to gauge how he would grow, what he would be like as an adult, but he'd always found it difficult to tell. Shrugging, he tossed his head in the direction of the corpse. "So, whose body?" he asked, somewhat curious. When he'd scented blood, he had originally hoped to satisfy hunger and thirst, but he was more interested in creating a beneficial bond with this pup than freaking him out. If that wolf was a relative, it'd do him no good to rip the hide open in front of the boy. It had been years since he'd been around anyone who he didn't intend to kill, and though he didn't care if he went to the grave alone, he figured he could cause double the damage to the simple lives of others if he had someone working with him. And raising that someone from such an influencial age would much better suit his purposes than trying to work with another wolf, heartless as himself, but already set in their ways and ideas. Conflict did not end well with Hellscream. He couldn't be bothered to restrain himself should some other adult become disagreeable, but a whelp... it was just so much easier. Licking his parched lips, he tilted his head, his uneven ears perked forward at an unusual angle. [/right]

| What wolf had a forked tongue? Ryuu thought to himself, it looks... serpentine-like. He remembered the mongoose and snakes were enemies for some reason, but this wolf hadn't attacked him yet, so that was a good thing, right? It was weird, knowing general facts about the world. Nearly everything personal to him was forgotten. So, it wasn't this wolf who did this? He wasn't sure if the proof for not being the culprit was any better than if the brute had killed the body.
"I... I don't know who that is. I don't really remember much of anything before I woke up earlier in the night and saw this. I only remember my friend right here, and our names," his ears nervously flattened as he spoke, unsure if this was a suitable answer, but it was all he knew. He looked up at the other, as if looking for a positive or negative response from this honest answer. The mongoose was silent and calmer, Ryuuketsu knew, as he felt Egan's fur against his own.

| Cruel eyes watched the young wolf, noting his confusion and his uncertainties. The sight of him was delectable, and Hellscream had to lick his lips. His awkward ears perked eagerly as the boy's voice finally reached his auds. The pup knew nothing, remembering naught but his name, and that of his friend. He would have scowled slightly about the mongoose, and the fact that the boy remembered him well enough, but there was no point at the moment. Instead, he cocked a brow, tilting his head with apparent interest. "Well, isn't that something..." he commented, looking over at the body on the ground, "I wonder what could have happened." His attention was then reverted to the boy. What was it that had caused this pup to lose his memory? He didn't look like he had any injuries, or any reason to be forgetful. Was it that he had committed the crime himself, and upon realizing the deed, had denied it so hard he started to believe it had never happened, and was not a part of his memory at all? With a shake of his head, he snorted, trying to rid such thoughts from his mind. He was reading into it too much. The reason didn't matter; the fat was, this youngster knew nothing and was a blank slate for him to corrupt.
Continuing to eye the pup curiously, Hellscream moved around him cautiously, examining him further. It was still impossible to tell what he would become when he grew, but that didn't really matter. Anyone with a dark mind could gain the skills they needed not only to survive, but to overpower and dominate others entirely. They could gain anything their twisted minds desired, even if that was only to destroy others or watch them suffer. "Well then, who are you, you and your friend?" he asked, stopping in front of the youngster again, "The name's Hellscream." He then fell silent, watching the wolf, wondering what his response would be now, and wondering what the future held...

| The Tibetan wolf took this conversation as a good sign, although there were points at which he felt the larger wolf was a bit displeased at something, or maybe he was thinking. Sometimes it was difficult to tell the difference. He continued to look at the now named wolf. Hellscream. Wasn't that not a nice name? Come to think of it, his own name didn't sound like a nice one, either.
It rolled off his tongue with a sharp aftertaste, "I'm Ryuuketsu, and this is Egan." Now that he was prompted and wasn't as distraught as the last time he spoke his name, he tried to remember his parents and if they told him what it meant. He couldn't come up with any memories. "What are you planning to do, talking to me like this?" It was impossible to not ask the question. He was still curious and lost. He had more questions than answers and he needed to know at least some things. The seemingly orange gleam in his silver eyes showed his uncertainty, although that was about it.
Egan, on the other hand, remembered it all, but would be unable to communicate everything in proper detail. Maybe one day, but until then, it was best for the mongoose to stay silent about the matter, although there was a momentary flash of recognition as he remembered the meaning of Ryuu's name. This Hellscream seemed like the type of wolf who'd bring Ryuu to live up to his name.

| Hellscream listened as the youngster spoke his own name, curious as the boy's tone reached his ears with obvious distaste. The name must have had some sort of meaning that displeased him. The pup's confusion intrigued him though, and made him wonder what his dubbance really meant. "Ryuuketsu.." he repeated quietly, his rasping tone filling the air. His eyes turned to look at the mongoose as the creature's name was spoken. His stance told Hellscream that he was calm and knowing, and clearly wasn't confused like his wolven companion. He supposed he wouldn't find out what Egan knew, or if it was even important. Looking back to Ryuuketsu, he noticed the uncertainty in his eyes as he asked why the older brute was talking to him. The gruesome-looking male gazed over the younger male. "Well, it looks to me like you might need a guardian," he said simply, though his tone was bone-chilling, "It's been a while since I was around youngsters, but it might be good for the both of us.." His eyes rested on Ryuuketsu's face, watching the pup's eyes. His lips peeled back in a sort of nasty grin, and he wondered what Ryuu thought of such a thing, of staying with him and going wherever he might go. Did he have any other plans or direction? His stiff tail flicked out to the side and he reclined upon his haunches, waiting for Ryuu's response. | |

| He was becoming more confident in the presence of this wolf, seeing that he wasn't being killed. Ryuuketsu's eyes widened marginally before narrowing in thought. There had to be a reason, but oddly, he didn't care what that motive may be. Hellscream seemed pretty cool once he got over his initial uncertainty about the other's appearance. If the larger wolf was willing to take him in, any plans probably wouldn't be directed towards him. As long as Egan was with him, he knew he could deal with anything the future held, dark or bright.
"Ok, then," he stated, his tail slowly wagging in contentment, "It's not like I know where I am or have an objective. Egan can come with us, right? He won't be in the way or anything, and he's plenty smart." Throughout this exchange, the mongoose didn't show surprise of Ryuu wanting to go with Hellscream. It was as if he was excepting the younger wolf to agree once the offer was spoken.

| A black wolf melted out of the shadows. The wolf didnt look confident, her tail tucked and her ears back. She doesnt throw a second glance at the mongoose, but her gaze bored into Hellscream. This wolf gave her a bad feeling. The metallic smell of blood drifted into her nose, and orbs turned to the carcass. She didnt smell the blood on the adult, so she knew he didnt do it, but he still gave her a bad feeling.

| Egan noticed the presence of another, and had looked up, hissing lightly. Ryuuketsu, alerted by his friend, looked up also and saw a black wolf with a chipmunk on her shoulder. She was looking a his new... guardian? Was that even the right word? Then she had looked to the dead wolf. Was she scared? Had be been that startled when he first realized what was going on? Ryuu unconsciously moved a bit closer to Hellscream, as if worried the fem was going to act motherly and try to take him away. The large wolf seemed kind of cool, although just a bit scary, now that Ryuu had calmed down. He silently watched her, wondering how the large wolf will react to her. | |

| Another wolf walked into view, his creamy pelt contrasting against the shadow. His broad muzzle was dusted with ginger and chestnut hairs, his ears, legs and tail likewise. Down his back and over his solid shoulders, his pelt darkened to black, and dark grey hair spilled over his ruff and over the top of his head. His eyes were not empty, but full of torment, his twisted nature reflected perfectly in the gold pools. His teeth were sharp, long and strong. He was far from weak, his entire body rippled with powerful coils of muscle. One single scar marred his handsome appearance. It ran from his shoulder to his eye, passing just below his ear. It was raised, and bald of hair. He wore it with pride, but its origin was far from courageous.
"Well, well well... What do we have here then?" He saw the mongoose, and his face twisted in to a fearsome snarl. Eyeing up the pup, and the huge male and the jet black female, his snarl changed to a leering grin. The dead wolf lying off to the side caught and held his attention.
"Thinking to get a snack out of that? Miserable creature... Would barely feed a rat!" The big male exclaimed. He turned back to the pup. "Why's that pup covered in his blood anyway? Joinin' the dark side, runt? Good on you. What are you miserable excuses callin' y'rselfs then?" The male, struggling to speak past teeth lost in a sleepwalking escapade, managed to sound friendly enough, but his body language and manner suggested anything but friendly intentions. He had killed a good few wolves in the short two years he had lived here, and felt no guilt in ending a life. In fact, it invigorated him in a way nothing else could, putting him in a good mood for around a day, unheard of in any other situation. He looked at the large male. "And who are you, freakshow?"
The wolf narrowed his eyes, and sat back on his haunches. He panted slightly, and waited to assess these strangers. He was spoiling for a fight, preferably a real one, but mock would do. He shut his mouth hastily, the smell of the carcass was making him drool uncontrollably. He figured that might not make the best of impressions. Like the big male wolf that was also there, he knew that whelps were prime targets to manipulate. He idly wondered if he or the other male would win the pup. No matter. He could always fight for him if things did not go his way. And perhaps he could claim the female, if he didn't get the pup. That is, if the female was twisted enough. He didn't want a soft female beside him. No, he wanted a female that could sympathise with him, plot with him, fight with him. That was a she-wolf. Those females happy to sit with newborn whelps all day didn't even qualify as wolves, to his mind. No, they were just dogs put in a favourable position, privileged to walk amongst the most noble of species.
For now, he was content to watch, and wait.

| He didn't need his mongoose friend this time to alert him to yet another wolf. Too many. There were too many wolves, but why was that so alarming? What happened before this day, or better yet, did he want to know? The new wolf made a comment about the carcass, oddly stirring up emotions of rage. Why was this? He couldn't have known the dead, older wolf, could he? Ryuuketsu couldn't even remember what he looked like and would need to look at the water's surface to check later. Did they look similar, had they been friends? He couldn't remember.
Egan seemed to have noted his uncertainty and moved closer to Ryuu's leg. The pup, noticing the gesture, didn't return it, but looked up at the new wolf. "Ryuuketsu," he responded to the inquiry of their names. These were lone wolves, not a pack, clearly What would happen now?

| The male fixed the pup and his mouth-watering friend in a penetrating stare, his disconcertingly vivid golden gaze didn't waver from the pup's face.
"Well, Ryuuketsu. Interesting name. You don't have a mother, or a father, do you? If you want, I'll take ya on... Unless Freakshow over there wants to that is, but he's a freak. What kind o' wolf has a split tongue? It's not right." The big male visibly shuddered.
Why was this pup here, beside an annonymous carcass? He hastily ensured his mouth was shut, the sweet aroma of blood was in the air, but thinking of it so close drove him near wild. He restrained himself, but couldn't resist a wistful glance, and his tongue flicked out and around his chestnut muzzle. He looked away, and again fixed his intense gaze on the pup. The little wolf was unsure, possibly even alarmed. Not surprising considering the freakish abomination of the Wolf standing before him, but still... Was the dead wolf a relation? A friend?
"Hey, runt? Is that mess a friend of yours? A parent? Sorry creature. Good breakfast though. If you've never sampled wolf meat, believe me, you haven't lived. Go on, take a bite. Unless you want me to test it first that is..." He sniffed longingly at the tantalising treat, his sick mind turning over the best way to mutilate the corpse further. He contemplated ways to kill the mongoose, but decided that, as tempting as it was, the pup's trust was more valuable than a quick snack. The big male then attempted to wag his tail, but the gesture was so alien to him he struggled slightly, ending up doing a sort of stiff swing. "I'm Otso, by the way. Loner since I was weaned. You don't wanna meet me in a bad mood, trust me. Any idea what that female is called, over there? Not seen her before..." He winked, hoping to show, or possibly lie, that he wasn't as sick and twisted as he first appeared. He wasn't sure it was successful, so he stopped, and waited on the pup to reply, drumming his rear left leg impatiently off the ground. His golden gaze, once again, never wavered from the pup's face. The little creature fascinated him, and that rarely happened to Otso, as he was aloof and detached, usually killing before socialising. His belly growling with the snack wafting it's smell before him, he waited impatiently for the young wolf's response to the proposed feast. He was soon drooling uncontrollably. Ach, well. It can't be helped.

| What was there to be mad about if he didn't remember anything? Ryuu didn't understand. All of these wolves were clearly interested in something... but none of them seemed to want him dead for the moment. His instincts weren't telling him to run, and Egan was rather calm, considering the situation.
"I... I don't know if I have family or who that wolf is... was. I don't remember anything until I woke up today. Just my name and that Egan is my companion. So... I probably wouldn't know what I've been eating, either. 'M not hungry, anyways..." he said, mumbling his last sentence. He looked down at the mongoose upon mentioning him before looking back to Otso. Somehow, he knew what kind of wolves Otsu and Hellscream were. He actually didn't know if the latter was still around or if he'd retreated, and Ryuu didn't dare look. Neither of the wolves scared him, just made him a bit nervous. He hated this feeling of uncertainty that came from his memory loss, although he thought he was doing quite well, since he hadn't been reduced to stammering yet and kept the waver out of his voice.

| "Well, Ryuu... I can call you that, right? I don't know what other wolves would be calling it, but I'll be your... Mentor, is it? Oh, I don't know..." He trailed off. This was awkward. Again, he glanced at the female. "You could come too!" He offered with a wink. Turning back to the pup, he opened his mouth to speak. Big loops of drool promptly spilled out, and Otso clamped his mouth shut, and bit his tongue in the process. He spat out blood, and mumbled past a swelling tongue, "Now I have chipped teeth AND half a tongue... Joy." The insane wolf started to laugh, an eerie yelping bark that split the tense air. He stopped abruptly, and lay down, still facing the pup, his tongue hanging out. "Well, runt?" He struggled to speak past his tongue, and waited. | |

| "That nickname works," the Tibetan pup replied slowly. And there it was. An offer to be taken under a wing. Ryuu knew should have expected this, since he wasn't dead yet. But... He watched Otso, knowing but not knowing what he was looking for until movement caught his eye.
Egan had bounded away from Ryuuketsu's side for the first time and darted near the paws of the larger wolf, quick and seemingly uncaring about any irritation the other wolf may have. The mongoose could be described as fearless. Still, the creature made no move to touch the other, hovering near Otso's paws for a brief moment, perhaps going as far as casting a critical eye over the wolf for two seconds before darting back to the pup. The mongoose hissed, but it oddly sounded like one of approval.
Ryuu watched his friend, confused as to what the other was doing until he returned and stated hissing in whatever language Egan's kind communicated in. Perhaps it was from spending so much time with each other in the past, but his mind knew what the mongoose said, even if Ryuu himself didn't. With a slow nod to the smaller, he looked at Otso again and simply said, "Alright."

| Otso jerked back up to a sitting position. Alright? He said alright? A strange feeling surged through him. It couldn't be affection, could it? "Really, runt? This will be interesting! Never had a pup before... Never wanted to, to be honest. Being alone for years does that to you... So, whats this sn--" He stopped himself, barely in time to stop "snack" slipping out. "What's this friend of yours called?" He glanced at the fearless little creature. "Where'd you find him? And what's HAPPENED in your life? How old are you? We can swop life stories!" The big male giggled girlishly, then blushed deeply. Inwardly he groaned. I did not just do that. "So, runt... Looks like we gotta run... Don't want Freakshow at your heels, anyway. Now, tell me about yourself... After all, Mentors need to know their charge, right?" He wagged his tail, with more success than before. This pup... he could feel Ryuu changing him. When he was around this pup, he couldn't help wanting to be gentle, to avoid alarming this pup. His black heart was showing streaks of crimson, and that scared him. It was alien to him. This pup was breaking through his sick, twisted shell, and accessing the wolf that lay, half dead, within. With that odd thought at the forefront of his mind, he stood up, stretching off strong muscles. "What d'ya wanna do first?" He wanted to settle the pup, make him feel welcome, but he wasn't sure why. He waited. | |

| Ryuu's eye held a brief look of surprise and amusement before it slowly dissolved. He was still too young to be able to completely control his emotions. The larger wolf was an interesting character despite his obvious darkness. Otso was apparently quite curious abut Ryuu himself, which was surprising.
"I don't fully understand his language and motions, but his name is Egan, and I think I've known him almost all my life so far. I think according to him, I'm under a year old. I can't really remember anything else about myself from before I woke up today." Ryuu spoke more confidently now that he knew he wasn't going to be a snack and that the larger wolf had taken an interest.
Was this even his personality, or had the memory loss altered that too? There were too many questions and almost no answers. Perhaps he should forget about trying to remember who he was and make due with who he is now. He had a guardian of sorts now; no need to try to remember his forgotten parents, right?
He stood up, slowly stretching muscles that he hadn't moved for a bit, while asking, "What's there to do around here?" It was weird. He felt like he knew how to do some things, but he wasn't sure what he liked. Were others wolves who forgot themselves like this, also?

| Otso frowned briefly. Why could this pup remember nothing? Could his young life have been so full of trauma his mind had just rejected it? He allowed the frown to relax as he realised it was beyond his control. He didn't comment on the flash of emotions that had flickered through the pup. Otso was aching to move on, his muscles demanded a run. He fidgeted, wondering if the pup and this... Egan would want to, or if they'd rather hunt. Otso wanted to test the physical capabilities of this pup, but he wasn't sure how to broach the question. "Ryuu, it's yor call... What do you want to do? I need to test you." Otso grinned and wagged his tail again. The gesture was becoming more and more familiar. He turned his yellow gaze on the trees. "Or you can find out about me, and I'll test you later... Your call." He was apprehensive about sharing his past. What if he was judged, or the pup feared him? Well, that was a risk he had to take. | |

| Like most pups would, Ryuu was quick to notice when the other wolf showed negative emotion, even though the only visible indication was a frown. During the span of Otso's frown, he had to refrain from fidgeting, which he thought he was rather successful at. Had he said something wrong, or were the thoughts not related to him? The negativity didn't seem to disappear completely, but it did lighten up considerably, which put Ryuu more at ease.
His ears leaned forward in interest when Otso mentioned a test. The faint orange hue speckled in his silver eyes darkened with interest when the alternative was mentioned. "Background first, test after," he replied, curious now that the topic was brought up. He was eager enough to do both, but wasn't sure if the piece of Otso's past would be revealed if he did the test first. Then there was the fact he wanted to know something... anything to start filling in the holes he was sure he'd never reclaim. He did wonder what kind of wolf he was before his memory left him, but if the past was the past and he'd never know, he'll try to start over with the new knowledge he has and settle into a personality that suits the present him. The mongoose remained calm next to him, as if expecting this reaction.

| Otso flinched at negative memories. He bowed his head, and stared at the ground.
"Well, Ryuu... You must understand that I have a bad past," Otso said with a grin. "So please don't be too disgusted. It started when I was a whelp. I was large for my age, and when we were still in the den I killed the runt of my litter. I heard the other wolves discussing me afterwards, I always did have keen senses. They said that once I was weaned, they were going to drive me out. I thought nothing of it. I believed myself above them. At eight weeks, I killed another of my siblings. Not long after, another pup was murdered by me. True to their word, the instant I was weaned, the whole pack turned on me. I had no choice but to run. They chased me out of their territory and further, and I ran for what seems like days to a frightened pup. I ran far, and eventually ended up in this land. I fended for myself, and yes, I killed more wolves, but this time it was in order to survive. And then, I smelt all of you, and decided to take a chance." He grinned again, and was ashamed to feel a stroke of guilt rush through him at his deeds. Cautiously, he nuzzled the pup. "But Ryuu, I swear I will not hurt you. I may not be sane, and I will kill others without pause, but there is something about you... Perhaps your life's deeds before here were similar." Otso smiled, a proper smile. "Truly, pup, I think I would be lost in the not to distant future if I hadn't found you. And no, I will not repeat that comment again." Otso grinned, as he remembered the test he was due the pup. "Now Ryuu... Tell me honestly what you think of me, and then you shall be tested. I want to know what you can do."

| Ryuu listened with rapt attention. His eyes weren't wide open in horror, but rather in interest and the fact he had to process much information. He wasn't initially sure how to react, because he didn't know if he could relate or not. Of course, Otso wouldn't be expecting an answer like that.
Finally, his head tilted in curiosity. So... was he kind of like a bad wolf, but not really anymore? Dark wolf, his mind helpfully supplied from somewhere, but with mixed connotations. From where, he didn't know, nor why his ideas about the word were mixed. Then the larger wolf moved closer, but Ryuu didn't move, not fearing what Otso might do, for he'd already had many chances to kill him. Instead came a cautious, almost gentle nuzzle. The motion was familiar yet not at the same time. Then he continued to speak, first with a vow, then finished with the reminder of the test.
From the corner of his eye, he noticed Egan's body language seemed to have lightened up from when Otso first started to speak. It wasn't quite as if the mongoose approved Osto's past, although that was probably implied, since it was more like approval for Ryuu to stay with the wolf.
Looking Otso in the eyes, he responded after a moment's pause, thinking of how to word what he was about to say, "I think I had mixed feelings about the idea of... darker wolves, but I think you're pretty cool, being able to fight and survive and stuff. I think you're kind of like Egan. He's really tough and sometimes mean on the outside, but has a soft spot for his friends." His tassel swayed with excitement about the test... whatever that was going to be.
