As he began to walk away his ears flicked back as he heard a yelp from Kaya, pausing in his tracks he glanced back at her and frowned. "We'll also find our pack healer to take a look at you, for now lets go easy then hmm?" He smiled kindly at her and slowed his pace so that it was leisurely. Catching his packmate scent he angled himself back in the direction of Serenity all the while he soft amiable voice spoke to Kaya. "I think you'll like it here Kaya, we're a peaceful pack and with the exception of a few instances we mostly get left alone." Pausing in his sentence his gaze wandered to the horizon where in the distance the giant monoliths of Muerta rose up, the mountain peaks reaching into the clouds. "As a general rule though you don't want to go anywhere near those mountains...nasty wolves there." Clearing his throat he went on. "We recently experienced a bit of a freak stampede through our pack and have yet to completely regroup, so we'll be doing that now and you can make everyones acquaintance." Walking a bit farther he smiled as he heard some distinctive puppish voices. "Ah, here we are." Rounding the corner he spotted Serenity and gave a small yip to grab his attention. He noticed that the pups were gathered around him as if preparing to do some sort of activity. Glancing reassuringly back at Kaya he led her forward. "I'm back and I've brought a new friend everybody." He stepped aside as if to display her and again smiled. "This is Kaya everybody she'll be joining our pack, be sure to give her some space though, shes traveled a long way." This last comment was directed at the children with a mock serious face. He knew that had manners enough not to pester a newcommer.

Meeting Serenity gaze his smile wavered slightly. "She is injured and I would like Ali or Jewel to take a look at her, we should also meet up with everyone and get on the same leaf." The ebon alpha mind wandered to the other half of his pack and wondered how Doctor was faring. The last he had seen of him he was being treated for his leg, he hoped the brute was doing okay.

.where do we go when we just don't know.
.how do we relight the flame when it's cold.
.why do we dream when our thoughts mean nothing.
.and when will we learn to control.

Unfortunately, the elder didn't get very far in his slumber as Esa's voice roused him. He raised his head, perplexed at her boastfulness about seeing the others, but took no offense. She was trying to make a point to the other two, and Serenity couldn't let her down. He stood up and shook his coat, flying off a light dusting of falling snow. "Yes, you're right, Esa," he replied, glancing at the other two with a hint of a smile. He had the feeling they would listen to her now. "It has been a while since you've seen the others. Then, see them we shall. Robin and Ali would be most excited to see all of you... and their new litter, as well." He didn't know if the kids knew about the pups, but they would now. He turned and headed for their dens, walking slowly, knowing that they would race ahead of him like rabbits when given the chance.

"But let us not be hasty," he said, hoping they would listen before they got too excited. "If we showed up with nothing, it would be rude, don't you think? Robin and Ali have worked very hard for this pack. I think it is time you repaid them. They are probably hungry... Who do you think can bring them the best meal?" Offering a challenge was the best way he'd be able to examine their skills. They were strong enough by now to catch small game on their own. He wondered if they would work together as a team, leave one of them to hunt for themselves, or hunt individually. Regardless, it was sure to bring out some answers.

A grin of pure delight lit Haru's features as he caught the surprised look on Ely's face when she saw him coming. Clearly, she had been daydreaming and hadn't noticed him coming until he was close. He dashed after her as she bolted away. Eyes widened as she suddenly came to a stop right in front of him, and he skidded to a halt as she went sailing over him. Realizing she had outmaneuvered him, more gracefully than her sister, he whipped around, tail flailing as he tried to re-balance himself as quickly as possible. His paws scuffled on the ground, claws caught grip, and he plunged after her, determined to outdo her, if only to prove himself a worthy young male. He yipped, and with a mighty shove he leapt towards her, large mitts outstretched to meet her.

-----------------------------

Esa trotted over to a hiding place after she had proclaimed Haru "it". She was satisfied with having slammed him into the ground. Chuckling to herself she crouched down and watched for how the game would turn out. As she watched, she could see the way that Haru barreled toward her sister, and how with ease Ely bounded over Haru. The young male was clearly determined to catch her and show off, though, and Esa could see the spark between them. Suddenly she felt a prick of annoyance, and was no longer interested in this game. She looked away as she heard a howl drifting through the air, an unfamiliar song in the valley. She wondered who it could be, then saw her father take off to go take care of business. It made her wish that she was older, and strong enough to face the unknown fearlessly as her elders did. She didn't want to be so young and constantly being ordered around. She glanced over to Serenity, the older wolf left to watch over them. She sighed as she saw him settle down, clearly expecting this whelp's game to go on for a bit. However, she wasn't going to sit around waiting.

Huffing, she rose to her paws and padded closer to the romping pair, sure they would not notice her anyways. She merely watched, an ear flicking back with an unimpressed look upon her face. She didn't care how the game ended, since she wasn't a part of it anymore anyways. "Alright, that's enough, isn't it?" she snapped loudly, glaring with emerald eyes, "We're supposed to go see our packmates. We haven't seen them since the stampede, don't either of you think we should stay a little more focused on what's most important?" Her eyes flicked back and forth between her peers, then she looked away and padded toward Serenity, jet black tassel swishing high in the air. "Serenity, I think we should get moving, we've played games for long enough," she stated matter-of-factly, swallowing down her fears of what would happen speaking to an elder this way, "I want to see how Bright and the others are doing." Though she stood tall, it was apparent that she was still a self-conscious youngster as her forepaw dug nervously at the ground.

"Yes, of course," Serenity replied, dutiful as Nuri made his way for the newcomer's call. Serenity's lavender eyes watched him go, several thoughts sifting through his mind, like grains of sand. One of which was that Nuri had avoided his question about what he planned on doing. The elder released a sigh... He had faith in the bru that he had a plan, and he respected him if he did not want to share it, but it still troubled him. He had seen many dark times begin this way, and end even worse. His time in Tirisfal thus far had not been for long, but he was beginning to learn that this, amongst all of the other packs, was a place of peace. Children prospered, families grew, and the dog days always reigned. It was a slice of paradise in comparison to everywhere else. Peculiar, considering that they were in the shadow of Mount Muerta. One would think otherwise, with Akira and her brood so near, but the sun could never shine brighter.

Another cold wind blew, but this one did not carry the threat that the first wind had. No, this was a familiar one, one that foretold the changing of the seasons. The pups were growing larger, now, and the time for them to learn was becoming crucial. If they did not learn now, they would fall behind in their skills, and struggle to find their place in the pack. He wanted to teach them, but would they listen? He doubted it. He spoke slow and vaguely, afterall. At the very least, he could tell them stories. In the meantime, though, his bones were beginning to ache, and he laid down a fair, watchful distance away from them. The trick would be not falling asleep.

He turned to Jewel, nodding his head in response to her question. "You are perfectly capable of tending to your mother if she requires anything, so it's best I'm out of the way and back at my den." He frowned, noticing the changing air. It was going to get colder soon, and ever since that flood, they hadn't restocked on many herbs. It wouldn't be good if anything happened. Doctor also didn't want to task Jewel with collecting everything alone...

He heard Nuri's response to the newcomer. At least that was one thing taken care of. Hopefully, whoever she was, she'd make a good addition to the pack. The concept of having a family was still a bit surreal. It had been long since he'd stopped wandering, but it was what he'd known for much of his life. He learned it was painful sometimes, thinking back to wolves who had passed on or wolves who had to leave the lands. Wolves he'd gotten the chance to get to know. It was worth it, though. He'd feared the negatives of having close bonds would overwhelm the positives, but that hadn't happened. There was a chance, that after it mended, his leg won't allow him to physically protect the pack, but he could still heal.

Kaya listened as Nuri spoke to her. When he stepped forwards and lowered his head, Kaya lifted her head and touched muzzles with him. She also wagged her tail and smiled gently in response to the gesture. "Thank you I'd like that." she said when Nuri mentioned about meeting some of her new pack. When Nuri touched her right shoulder, Kaya got to her feet.

All of a sudden, a bolt of pain shot through the newly healed wound on her left shoulder as she stood up, causing her to let out a plainitive yelp. After a moment the pain subsided, so she turned and slowly padded away after Nuri.

Emerald eyes took in her body language and instinctively his guard came down. It was hard to lie with body language and Nuri knew from the look of her that she was being truthful, at least about submitting. He sniffed the air once more and nodded. "Very well Kaya, if it is a home you seek then seek no more...if you have come to this place to reside in peace than we shall surely welcome you into our ranks." He stepped forward now cautiously. It was only natural that he would give her a once over now that he was part of the pack. Stepping up to her face he smiled gently. "You have nothing to fear from us, you must be hungry I'm sure but for now why don't you follow me to meet some of the pack?" He touched her muzzle with his own and wagged his tail. The ebon hessian was an older and gentle soul and once the formalities were over he felt more comfortable. "Come" He said simply and again touched her on the shoulder and turned to leave. She could come with him to the high dens where the children were gathered were she could get her bearings.

Jewel looked at her mother and then tipped her muzzle down in a shy gesture. "Thank you mother." she said feeling a warmth spread in her chest. Her mother loved her...she knew this. Her father did too...she was grown now though. And in that reason with the new life nestled at her mother's teat it made her a little less important to them. Not unimportant so they forgot her but the needs of the little ones were more pressing than hers. She wished in that moment to be small again.

When she left her mother's den she flicked her tail slightly at her father in a friendly gesture to follow where Doctor and Bright had gone. Her friend needed help and it was her fault that he had injured himself. She had aided him in the binding of the injury. She prayed that they had set it right. Taking a breath she sat back and watched the older male put some pressure on his leg. SHe was about to speak when a howl came to their ears.

A stranger's howl.

She wrinkled her nose and blinked. More strangers...though the last ones that came weren't so bad and she thought of the three brother's that had helped them hunt. Clearing her head of the thought and that lingering one of her brother she shook her pelt. "Where would you like to rest up Doctor? Back at your den?" She asked curiously.

Kaya's ears pricked up when she heard a howl. Looking around, she couldn't see anyone at first, then all of a sudden she heard a low bark and spotted a wolf stood nearby. Looking at the wolf 's stance, Kaya could tell that he was the alpha male of whatever pack was here. She instantly moved herself into a submissive stance as the wolf introduced himself as Nuri Bade and proceeded to ask her what she was doing here. Keeping her head low to the ground, Kaya replied in a soft voice "Hello Nuri, my name is Kaya and I come in peace. I am seeking a pack to call home as my own was wiped out." At this point, memories overwhelmed her and she shut her eyes briefly, before opening them again.

Nuri awaited Serenity next words but before he got them out a howl washed over the land, a wolf seeking a home. He was instantly perked up by this and saw that Serenity was as well but it looked as if the hessian would seemed inclined to allow another to find the loner. Nuri didn't blame him, he too felt the ache in his bones but he cleared his throat. "I'm sorry Serenity, I have to go answer that...I'm not sure what kind of state the pack is in and I fear that my best are too far run down, would you please stay with the children until I return." His mind flashed to his pack, they needed to reconnect. He had not seen Doctor since he had hurt himself though he knew that he was being cared for. Robin had long since jaunted off in service of his mate and he thought it best he answer the call...he was after all Alpha here. Touching the brutes shoulder he glanced once at the pups playing ahead and trotted off into the forest.
Lifting his muzzle slightly as he manuevered through the trees he let out a low return howl letting the female wolf that he was on his way to her and also telling anyone else who was on track that he would handle it. It was a short jog through the forest and he skirted on of the valleys but he was upon her scent in no time. His nose led him to the foreign wolf but as he entered the trees he looked about in confusion..he could smell her but not see her...oh! There she was dozing fitfully under a trees. He kept his ground as to not startle her and barked low in his throat. Nuri by no means was a harsh wolf but he kept a stern visage unsure of the nature of this loner. "Greetings child, I have heard you call. I am Nuri Bade, Alpha here. What is your business? Are you hurt?" He waited paitiently and despite his more serious disposition there was a calm gentle feeling about his prescence. She looked too thin to have been eating well, though that was true of most lone wolves. As a father his heart immediatley went out to her and he awaited her answer.

.where do we go when we just don't know.

.why do we dream when our thoughts mean nothing.
.and when will we learn to control.

Nuri's words were confident, but Serenity could sense his unease. He nodded in response, knowing that their leader spoke the truth... Nuri was, undoubtedly, right. Serenity had seen too many packs fall without a stable middleman, a strong supporter, a youthful warrior of considerable strength and size. He sighed. He had grown old and obsolete, his bones weak as the fallen leaves around them now. He was no longer the limber, nimble sapling he once was, nor was he the mighty oak that stood his ground in gale-force winds. Though he still wore the armor of the paladin of all that was good and righteous, he had long ago abandoned the sword and shield that defended it. Golden hues wandered over to the pups romping before them. Who would take up said sword and shield? Would it be Haru, who's gentleness was comparable to that of a newly-hatched monarch? Or Elysia, who already had enough to carry, let alone a warrior's title? And, it would take time for the rest of the children to grow up before they could be taught anything.

A howl wavered in the air; a young one, a female. His ears pricked, but he knew he was not the only one that had heard it. Sad to say, he was much too weary to answer it anyways, seeing as his brother and strange adoption had departed as quickly and suspiciously as they had come. Talking with Priest took the energy out of him. He glanced at Nuri, who was catching up to his own age. "What do you plan to do?" he asked, glancing Muerta once more. He understood the constant loom of darkness that came from Akira's mountain, but something about it seemed more... sinister on this brisk autumn day. He was compelled to know, but with his age, came wisdom. He knew better than to go searching for trouble. Instead, he inhaled the crisp, chilly air, exhaling a warm, silvery fog, eyes turned to the children once more, content.

He nodded his head in thanks to Bright and Jewel, having bound his leg. While he was able to put pressure on it now, Doctor knew to relax for a while. On the bright side, Jewel now had some practical experience with this. After some verbal instruction and Bright helping, she quickly picked up on the technique. Now, he wondered about the pack. It'd been a while since he'd seen the others and hoped they fared well. His primary concern was Ali, although he was sure Jewel was more than capable of making sure her mother is well cared for... and making sure Robin gets enough rest.
An ear flicked as he heard a howl, one that sounded somewhat tired. Looking to Bright, he questioned, "Do you think the others are free to respond? I don't really want to keep you apart from your own children longer than necessary. My idea of thanking you does not involve you going over to see who that is." Was Nuri the only one watching the pups, or were the others there? A bit incapacitated, he thought about where he'd move to while waiting for Bright's response. He couldn't just stay here while resting his legs. It'd be intruding on Robin and Ali's space for too long.

The young gray female entered the Tirisfal Valley, panting heavily. She was scared and exhausted from running for such a long time. She entered the forest just inside the border cautiously. She stopped near a particularly tree and dug a hollow in the base of the tree. Kaya looked around for a moment, then let out a long low howl, which hung in the air for a moment before drifting across the valley.  "I hope whoever lives here will let me stay" she thought to herself as sore and aching, she curled up in the hollow that she had dug. Whilst waiting for someone to appear, she fell into a fitful doze, coming to now and again to check her surroundings.

Four pillars held strong as the young fae darted about; it felt good to be moving again, and quickly too. Though the stampede had be terrifying, the purity of the adrenaline had felt like ecstasy, running was just as pleasurable as a morning hare. Laughter erupted from Elysia as her growing frame moved about swiftly. Just a brief pause had caused her to see Haru's demise, watching Esa sail into the youth. The brief collision and pause made her attention avert to the elder hessians, an ivory smile remaining, curious to their discussion.

There was warmth initially, and she felt soothed by their gazes. The cold crept in slowly, and it took her smile away. She couldn't hear, being a bit far removed, even from Esarosa and Haru, but the young woman could see their features shift. Elysia would wonder later about what was transpiring, and certainly learn, for now she averted her gaze. They were growing, and soon they'd have to learn more about the lands. But there was something to be sad of play, and only an ignorant prude would suggest anything fun was childish and unbecoming. There was to much strife and these older wolves could learn a thing about fun.

The thoughts burst as twin peaks flicked to catch the sound of swift padfalls, that of a young hessian. Hues followed auds to fall upon Haru, Ely's features quickly shifted to  that of a surprised rabbit. And just like the prey, she quickly leapt to her mitts, taking off and circling around. Elysia briefly became parallel to Haru and she stuck out her tongue with one eye shut, before giggling and dashing forward. She pushed herself ahead before halting and suddenly turning to face the hessian, the fae crouched ready to spring over Haru. Whipcord tapping the ground she caught her breath when he was only paw lengths away, Elysia leapt.

PostSubject: Re: Virtuous hearts; Tirisfal Valley   Virtuous hearts; Tirisfal Valley - Page 2 Icon_minitimeMon Nov 11, 2013 3:36 pm

Nuri's ears perked up as the older bru Serenity joined his side as the children bounded ahead of him and he spoke a litany of words that described the very such feelings he felt when he saw them all together this way. He added no comment and instead nodded in sanguine agreement. While he himself was not much for the art of words he could still appreciate them and knew that Serenity had the language in spades. It was strange, he had little conversed with the hessian but felt a kinship to him. Indeed he was even appreciative of his presence, one old wolf to another. His smile deepened as his daughter incited the old as time game of tag. He watched the children romp and chase each other knowing that Elysia would try to please him by not running off and continue her job of leader. Still...play time for pups was a wonderful thing.

The mood between and him and Serenity suddenly became solemn and Nuri felt the shift and cast a glance at the bru as he spoke his suspicions to him. Nuri quickly glanced at the pups to be sure they would not hear the adult conversation and satisfied that they were too preoccupied he too moved his gaze in the direction of the mountains. They could not be seen from here but once they crested the hill that marked the higher plateau sure enough they would loom above the trees, menacing and cold. He felt the hessians words in his bones but could he honestly say that he felt a disturbance? Nay...nothing more than the usual antagonism he felt when surveying that pack. Akira was always up to something. Her age meant little to him, he knew not to underestimate the witch but surely she would be dropping dead sometime soon. She did not exactly lead a peaceful life...one of her underlings would pick her off  he had no doubt. Vicious brutes one and all...such a dark park Nuri had never seen in his life. Clearing his throat and trying to get the dark clouds from his mind he looked forward again to pups. "Akira is usually up to something..but I would not be called a fool for being complacent. I will double the guard duty on the borders, though we are running ragged as is. We need more wolves Serenity..our pack is too young and too old all at once." Nuri thought of Snowfall and felt sad, if she were here she would be able to come up with a more viable solution instead of just waiting around. But she was gone....safe...but gone. And though he loved Tirisfal and it would forever be his true home he hoped to make his last journey across the mountains to where she was and breathe his last breath near her.

Haru smirked as Ely shoved back, but became quiet and walked along silently when Esa approached from Ely's other side. He didn't want her to say anything, or for her to tell him to go away. He was pleasantly surprised when Elysia made the move to start a game of tag, instantly tagging her sister as the first one to be "it". Grinning toothily, Haru bounded backward, stopping in a bow position, his tail waggling. "Ha, I don't think you'll be able to catch me!" he taunted. Emerald pools blinked in surprise as Esa felt her sister's paw tap her, calling for a game of tag. As both the other pups bounded away, teasing her into playing, she narrowed her eyes and crouched into position, ready to pounce. She gave a little growl, getting ready to chase. Haru taunted her, acting like she wouldn't be able to catch him, which made her laugh. "Yea right!" she burst out. She wished that Ajax were playing with them instead, but it seemed that something had changed in him beyond what he had been before. He probably wouldn't want to play with them. Bounding forward, she darted after Haru, and the young male bolted away, but quickly tripped over a root sticking out of the ground.

Esa took the opportunity and leapt forward, laughing heartily as she landing on Haru, bouncing off of him and prancing away. "You're it!" she said with a laugh, running away while he got back up. The young male gave a huff as he was pounced on, but tried to get up quickly enough to tag Esa as she went running by; he missed by a whisker, and watched her tail flicking as she made her get away. Disgruntled but not discouraged by being overtaken so quickly, he got back to his feet and set his sights on Ely. He wanted to prove Esa wrong, but thought he might get a chance later when she wasn't paying attention... for now he would get Elysia! He bounded in her direction, trying to see which way she would dart so he could catch up to her quickly.

Her husband departed, and Ali looked up at the sound of her daughter's voice. If possible, her smile grew wider. "I understand," she replied with a dip of her head. "But I want to thank you, first. You have grown in so many ways, and I've never been more proud." Tears streamed freely from her cerulean eyes. It felt like just yesterday that it had been Jewel herself, her own flesh and blood, nestled against her side as her second litter was now. And here she was, fully grown, and a more than capable woman. She was beautiful and brilliant, and she had complete faith that Jewel would assist her in watching over her new brother and sisters. "Do what you need to do, honey. I know that you will do it well," she said, reaching out to nuzzle her cheek, and then laid her head on her paws, exhausted. The pups had drank their fill and now curled into her side, warm and cozy, safe from the end of summer outside. It would be difficult bringing them up in the colder conditions... There would be less prey and more predators around, and most of them not-so-friendly. She tried not to think about their last encounter. Things were better now, more protected, more guarded. Robin promised that he would not leave them to such dangers again. She had forgiven him; they had both been punished by the loss of their son, and now was a chance to begin anew. She slept, weary but not unhappy, into a quiet, dreamless serene sleep.

Outside the den, Robin reclined on his haunches. He watched Jewel leave and follow the direction that Doctor had gone, probably to Bright, also a novice healer of the pack. He stretched, one ear perked to listen inside the den; it was quiet, but not too quiet. He heard the slight snores of his wife and the tiny nose-whistles of his children. They were safe, and he would be vigilant until otherwise. He hoped that the rest of the pack would return to the Low Dens, both to see his new family and to return to the life that was once was. It had been an eventful year for all of them, and with the changing of the leaves surrounding him, it only solidified all that had happened... The passing of his first son, the disappearance of his second son, the young male his daughter had met, the storm that flooded their lands, the elk run, the gang of wolves along the border... Things were finally beginning to settle down, and with his family close to him once again, he couldn't be happier.

It was unanimous, eveyone felt the same inquiry, that the presumptuous young hessian refused to answer his Alpha's direct question. Elysia remained silent as she watched along with the others, clearly there was nothing to gain from such a disrespectful pack member, disloyal at that. Her thoughts scattered at that resonating voice, familiar now and taking control again. Nuri's lyrics were met with delight, however, and Elysia smiled before bounding forward. All the problems of Ajax disappeared, if only till it became a problem again. The youthful fae slowed her pace, hearing mitts carrying Haru to her side, she would walk with her family not simply lead them. The nudge brought a smirk to her features, and she playfully shoved back, chuckling lightly.

Ely turned her gaze to Esa then, almost sensing her approach rather than hearing it. They had all been to distracted by the crazy events, Ely was simply glad to be back by their sides safely. Her gaze flicked back briefly to Nuri, hues speaking admiration. Then, she gave a playful growl and lightly tapped Esa with a paw, and bounded forward slightly. Elysia stopped and turned, lowering herself to the ground."Better run Haru!" A game of tag along the way would clear up any remaining distractions, and they'd keep it within Nuri's sights, for now.

Doctor gave an approving smile, seeing the grass Bright returned with. With everything that was going on, he hadn't paid much attention to what was growing apart from herbs. He'd long since learned to respect women's intuition- few were healers, but describe something to them, and they'll find things to fit the job. It wasn't as common for males to be able to produce things as good quality. He chalked it up to the depth of ability to pay attention to detail.

"Thank you, Bright. We'll wait for Jewel to meet her siblings and she can help you. While I'm sure Ali verbally taught her what to do, there's not always much chance for training on another wolf, which is always different from practicing on thick branches. I don't doubt her skills, but younger healers who don't have experience in a wide variety of injuries might need initial assistance until they get their method down. I'd appreciate it if you aided her. How fare your young and Nuri's?"

He hadn't heard much from the rest of the pack yet, and was eager for any news. If anyone still had injuries, even minor, Ali couldn't move until her kids could, he was limited in movement, leaving Jewel as the most abled healer, who was attending to him. He hoped she didn't feel guilty. He'd seen it soon after he'd initially pushed her out of the way and for a bit after, but now wasn't sure if she still harbored the feeling. With everything that happened to her family, he wouldn't be surprised, but he felt bad for being the cause of even more negative emotions for the young adult. Her new siblings would bring some joy, but he still worried for her. He didn't know what to do to help.

Jewel was glad her father was there to take her little sister back down to her mother. His words made her smile. She knew he loved her and her mother loved her too...but she was not a baby any longer. She cast a worried look at Doc. Doc who saved her skin from being trampled at the cost of his own. She took a deep breath and was about to offer assistance when her father came and announced her siblings arrival and that her mother would be fine. Taking a deep breath she nodded and then looked toward Doc again about to offer her help once more when Bright spoke up and then departed to go and gather some things.

"I will help too Doc. Just give me a moment." she said softly. She needed to go and greet her siblings. It was tradition.

Sliding down into the dark warmth of the den she could hear the suckling noises of her sisters and brother. She cleared her throat and parted her lips. "Mother. I am here. Is there anything else you need?" she asked seeing the little balls of fur nestled to her mother's belly. The large female latched on to the prime teat. The sight made her smile. They were cute little furballs.

Scooting closer she nuzzled each one of them in turn and then nosed her mother's cheek gently. "Doc needs help with his leg. So I can't stay long." she said gently.

PostSubject: Re: Virtuous hearts; Tirisfal Valley   Virtuous hearts; Tirisfal Valley - Page 2 Icon_minitimeSun Sep 08, 2013 11:42 pm

Bright nodded quietly with a smile as Doctor greeted her. She could feel that he was avoiding leaning into her entirely, but she wished he wouldn't be too stubborn. She was strong enough that she could support most of his weight, but it seemed healer's (males especially), would not easily admit just how much help they needed. She listened carefully as he told her some things that she could find for him that would help mend his leg in time. "I'll get those things right away," she said with a nod. It sounded like it would be quite a delicate procedure to bind the branches to his legs, something that would require patience and careful dexterity, so as to not injure the leg further, but also make the binding sturdy enough that it would hold out. "Can you wait here?" she asked softly.

She looked up just as Robin came out of the den, announcing the names of the newest members of Tirisfal Valley and welcoming Jewel to go into the den to spend time with her new siblings. She couldn't help but to choke back the little flutter that started in her chest. It was a precious time, and she could hear the pride in Robin's voice. Though she wished to stay and congratulate them all, and perhaps see the newborns, she had to focus her mind back on the task at hand. Doctor was desperately in need of attention, and his recovery couldn't be ignored any longer. "I'll go swiftly," she promised, shifting herself in such a way that he could adjust his weight back onto his own legs. She nodded on last time and then took off.

She was certain it shouldn't be too difficult to find the things she needed. She just needed to locate the right kind of tree, one with branches that weren't brittle, that wouldn't snap under pressure. She rummaged around the brush, picking up different twigs and fallen branches, testing them with her teeth. She dropped each one that snapped, or that seemed to flexible. At last she was able to find something suitable - the branches were sturdy and withheld against the test of her powerful jaws. She just needed a good length, and got to work gnawing off lengths that seemed about right, roughly the length of Doctor's leg. Her jaws and teeth were sore by the time she was done, but she was sure that it was a sign the branches would hold out as necessary. Once satisfied with the sticks, she began her search for binding materials. She sought out webs under old logs and big rocks. Perhaps the long, tough strands of grass in the fields of Tirisfal would help as well. After a somewhat lengthy trek she found herself in open land, and ripped up a thick tuft of grasses. Picking up all of her materials she started back, her pace hurried, taking long strides of graceful legs.

Bright returned - she realized that the shadows had shifted significantly, indicating a passage of time she hadn't been aware of. But the lands of Tirisfal were expansive, and consisted mostly of the open valleys - trees were harder to find, and seeking out a specific type even harder. She planted the materials near Doctor, looking up at him with a questioning look. "Can I do anything else?" she asked, wondering what she could possibly do, "Will you be able to bind it yourself?" She was sure that if he had all his paws to use, it wouldn't be so difficult to bind the leg of a packmate, as healers would do. But with a broken leg, working on himself might not be so simple. The fae wondered if Ali could help, but after all she was trying to recover from an illness of her own, and she had just given birth. She must be exhausted.

He watched Robin enter the den with the larger female, glad to see the news was taken well enough. He inwardly cringed, the thought sounded bad, hoping that it wasn't because the family was used to tragedy and hardship now. Now, Doctor saw Bright, Jewel still next to her. Soon enough, though, Bright had moved to his side, offering support to his weaker side, which he took gladly, although avoided putting too much of his weight on her. "Good to see you still well, Bright," he greeted.

"I guess I do need this taken care of. Things to bind a broken leg would be helpful. Branches that are sturdy, and would keep the pieces of the fracture from moving once bound so it will heal as properly as possible. I've kept it as still as possible up to this point, but having additional support would ease the stress on my muscles. I also need anything that can be used to keep the branches in place. Webs, things like that." The sprain would heal in time, as long as he didn't make it worse, but it was clear he might not be able to do all the activities he was used to... or at least, he'd have to adjust.

He steadied himself and looked at Jewel, and Robin came out before he could speak, letting the names of the children known. He smiled, glad that at least some things went right.

Robin looked up from the ground, seeing Jewel's return. The moment he darted up to her to ask if anything could be done, Doctor emerged from the den, and he breathed a sigh of relief. Ali would be all right. His litter would survive. At first a smile broke out on his weary lips, but then was replaced by a frown as Doctor told them outright that one of the four hadn't made it. He nodded. "Wherein death, there is life," he said softly, not just to himself, but to Jewel. "I want you to know that you will always be my pride and joy. You're my daughter, and I'm ever thankful to have you and your mother here with me," he said, maroon eyes sincere. He approached and nosed the large pup that thrashed in Jewel's paws, nibbling at her toes as if she already had teeth. "If not for your quick-thinking, and a stroke of luck, you and Bright may be the only source of hope that we may have had... Thankfully, it was not as dire as we thought. But. I will make sure that Nuri hears of your contributions to the pack. It's time you earned it." He nuzzled her and kissed her cheek, and then took his other wrestling daughter from her. He smirked as she made tiny growls and batted her paws at the air, demanding to be put down, but then went automatically limp as he adjusted and held her by the scruff. Regardless, she made a soft whining sound, clearly irritated.

It wasn't until the newborn was in the darkness and warmth of the den, smelling like her mother, did the whining stop. Ali shot up, alert, only to find that it was Robin returning with her daughter. He laid her beside her siblings, and the pup scrambled over them to a teat, fat with milk and ready for suckling. She pushed her smaller brother out of the way, and completely ignored her other sister. Robin laid down, grinning as he did so, and then looked to his wife, her periwinkle eyes glimmering in the darkness.

"One boy and two girls," she announced, her voice weak from labor and sickness, but still ringing with maternal strength. A smile crinkled on her worn features. "Do you remember our first litter, Robin? What we named them after?"

"Of course I do," Robin replied, watching as his children fed from their mother's side. It was almost as if he was re-living the entire thing, right here, right now. "Koda was first. Named after a sled dog from your old team. You said he was a strong soul, and you know what? I think it suited him. He was always outgoing, always bold, always the first to try everything. Then it was Robin Junior... because I need someone to carry on my legacy, don't I? Or... I did. And then there was Jewel. Our shining, beautiful daughter... She will be a great older sister to these ones. I know it. She takes after you."

Ali smiled, but said nothing. Her smile depressed into a grimace, and she couldn't help but sigh, thinking of her two lost sons. One had his fate already taken, and the other... She still wanted to find him. Would she ever see Robbie again? It was to the point where she didn't care what he looked like or what he had gone through. She just wanted him with her now, with Jewel, with the family, including Nuri and Doctor and Bright and everyone else in Tirisfal. She wanted to tell him that even though his heart wasn't in the realm of light, that he would always have a home in it, however temporary. It was these thoughts that were going through her head as she gazed upon her newborns. Yes, they would need to be named. They would be the new lights of the pack, ushering in a new generation, and she had no doubt that this year would have to be more fruitful than the last. The look in Robin's eyes told her that he was thinking the same.

"You have a name, don't you?" she said, to which he nodded. "What is it?"

"This one here," he replied, nosing the large female. "She's feisty. She's going to be a fighter. A protector of the pack. I know it."

"So what would you suggest?"

"I'm thinking Arella. She was a noble wolf warrior in pack in the North. She fended off many enemies when I was just a pup. There was a rumor that she was a messenger of Fenrir," he said. "What do you think?"

"I think it'll be ironic if she turns out to be a pacifist," Ali chuckled. "But that will do. And this other little girl... I want to name her Zola."

"Zola? That's a strange name."

"It's a name used by the human tongues. That's why it's... different. But from what I can tell, it means 'peaceful earth'. And that's just what we need right now."

"Yes. That's... That's very fitting. And the boy... What do you think of the name Lance?"

"I adore it."

"Then it's decided," Robin said, kissed her on the cheek, and then kissed each pup on the top of their heads. He turned and exited the den, finding Jewel still there. "You can say hello to your new siblings now: Arella, Zola, and Lance. Your mother and I believe they will bring about a new era of justice, peace, and stability." He said those words with pride. He said them with such boundless confidence, he felt like an entirely new man. This litter would restore the sons he had lost, the darkness that had consumed him, and the pain that nearly broke him. He could still be the knight he was born to be. But right now? He felt like a king.

PostSubject: Re: Virtuous hearts; Tirisfal Valley   Virtuous hearts; Tirisfal Valley - Page 2 Icon_minitimeWed Aug 21, 2013 12:43 am

Bright's brow furrowed as Jewel frowned when she gave the news. The younger woman seemed very worried, and she didn't blame her. It would be very risky if they needed to seek help from other packs - just going by paw from pack to pack would take so much time, and they didn't have time for that. She rushed along with Jewel, keeping pace with her. Bright took a pace toward the den when Jewel stopped and placed the newborn down. "Ali?" she called, a tone of desperation flooding the urgency in her voice, though she tried to remain calm, "Please, can I come in? I have an idea, I might be able to-" She stopped speaking when Doctor came out, stating that Ali would be okay, and the pups should be reunited with their mother. Relief flooded her, and she stepped back to allow the family space to share the welcome news. Aside from the news that only three of four had made it, which made her ears fold back in disappointment. It was a bitter sweet situation, but at least the rest would survive.

As she saw Doctor come out of the den, she noticed how strained he looked. He had been injured in the stampeded, and hadn't been back with the pack since. He looked in awful condition, and Bright hurried forward to offer her shoulder to him. She felt badly that he had been the only one there to help Ali, when he himself was in dire need of fixing up. She wished that she had skills in healing, but all she could do was offer her support. "Doctor... is there anything I can do to help you?" she asked him softly.

-----------------------

Haru stood quietly while he waited for his brother to speak up, staying near Ely's side. They all seemed to be looking at Ajax now, waiting, but he was completely reluctant to speak. It was rather important for him to reply, seeing as it was Nuri questioning him, and yet he remained silent as though he was too good to excuse himself. He shook his head. His brother was really going to get into trouble if he didn't cooperate. When Nuri turned on them and gave them all the eye, Haru lowered his head, ears folding back. Though approaching senior status, Nuri was still an imposing presence. The bru requested that they get moving, and he rounded them to herd them all up. Then he told Ely to take the lead, and Haru smiled. After casting a wary glance over at Nuri, seeing now that he was grinning, Haru bounded to Ely's side, nudging her shoulder and urging her forward. She was the daughter of an Alphaess, after all, maybe she would make a good leader one day as well. It made Haru wonder what Lady Snowfall had been like, but if Elysia was her daughter, then she must have been great and kind.

----------------------

Esarosa smirked as Ajax remained silent, dutifully refusing to answer such mocking questions. However, she had grown bored with the situation, and was glad when Nuri said they were to get moving, out to the high dens. It would give them a change of scenery, and despite her attitude, Esa was still anxious to see if the rest of the pack was alright. They hadn't been reunited since the stampede, so no one even knew if the pack was okay yet. And where was Bright? She'd left some time ago to hunt, and hadn't come back yet. Surely the stampede was gone though, and she hadn't gotten caught up in it. She affirmed it in her mind and nodded. Then she flicked her tail over Ajax's shoulder and grinned at him, then trotted forward, her dark coat gleaming in the daylight. She came up to her sister's other side as Nuri told her to lead the way to the dens. It had been a while since she'd spent time with Ely.

He was more weary than he cared to admit by this point, but at least Ali was out of danger. There was no reason to doubt her words. Even if healers were the worst patients, she wouldn't endanger her children. Nearing to do a brief check on Ali's temperature to satisfy his concerns, Doctor nodded in agreement with her words. "I'll let Robin in. I don't have to tell you twice to take it easy for a while. A quick trip to wash when you are able won't hurt, either. Nuri will be alerted to the recent events." Dipping his head briefly, he turned to leave.

As he started to move, though, Jewel's voice floated down towards their ears. He thought for a brief moment, and called back, "Jewel, it's ok now. Give her to Robin and let them come in first after I leave." He knew Jewel would want to take the chance to see them, really see them, but Robin had been waiting all this time, without a glimpse except for the female Jewel carried. He should have this time as the father.

Exiting the den this time seemed a bit harder, his leg stiffening up. It would need attention once he got out, so finding Nuri would have to come later. Once out of the den, slower but without further harming the broken limb, he move out of the way of the entrance. "Go on in and return your daughter to her mother's side, Robin. Ali will be fine... I'll tell you now, though, the bad news to prepare yourself. Three of four make it." As much as he'd like to, he wouldn't sugar-coat the news, even if it felt sudden. They deserved to be told straight up, any family would.

She whined. She may not be able to see or hear anything at this point of development, but she was pushed away every time she tried to get closer to that Warmth. There had been another source of warmth, but it wasn't the one she was bonded to, which had gently brushed her away, too, at some point. Unable to comprehend anything for herself yet, she acted on instinct, weakly fighting against it, persistent in her attempt to get to the Warmth... and milk. The milk was where the Warmth was, and she had to get there first. Then suddenly... nothing stopped her. The two bodies of heat were still there, but suddenly she was able to latch herself onto her target. But... now she had to find the milk. She crawled in the direction the scent was strongest. Now she was there, but where was it? She nuzzled around, then latched onto a teat and started to suck. She found it! The smaller bodies of her siblings weren't here yet, and she didn't care where they were right now. She could drink and not be shoved for now. When they did, she'd finish with her fill and would easily relinquish her grip.

Jewel frowned. No milk? How would her siblings survive?? It wasn't fair. She just stared at Bright with her two toned eyes sadly and looked down at the big female pup that chewed on her toes. A soft sigh issued. "Doctor is with her now." She added softly and picked up her sister, carefully cradling her between her jaws.

Turning without another word she carefully trotted back to the den. Bright more than likely behind her. She stopped at the mouth and peered down into the darkness. "Mother....Doctor?" She called down into the dark. "Bright has no milk." She said sadly and looked down at the ball of fiesty fluff between her toes.

What would they do if mother couldn't pull through? All of them would die...a deep sadness befell he and she nuzzled the pup at her feet. Waiting to hear word of what she should do she stared at the pup. So young ...so helpless. What would it do without mother? For that matter...what would she do?

Ears pinned and she awaited voices she knew were below.

.where do we go when we just don't know.
.how do we relight the flame when it's cold.
.why do we dream when our thoughts mean nothing.
.and when will we learn to control.

The children paid no attention to him, but Serenity continued to watch, nonplussed. Nuri called them and they came running to him as he told them they were to be headed for the high dens. Serenity sighed, his bones old and weary, but his paws carrying him forward. He eased alongside Nuri as the young ones ran ahead, curious as to what the bru was going to teach them. A smile played on his lips. "They are growing quickly, aren't they?" he said, remembering when he had first come across them. They could barely see or stand, much less speak and run about. "And they flourish, as flowers do in the summer, and mature, as leaves do in the fall. They will carry the pack when in doubt, if raised by the light of the sun." He was a poetic soul, and his words came across as such. At the same time, he couldn't push away the thought of what was looming in Muerta. He knew he would have to speak of it, and at a time he could lend the Alpha's ear privately.

"But something ill rides the wind from the mountains," he said, glancing in the direction of Akira's pack. "I am no seer nor oracle, but I believe that something will be happening there, if not already. I do not know what, exactly. I have no evidence nor proof. Just know that I am not normally a skeptic." What more could he offer than his instinct? Someone, aside from him, had to know...
