| Jewel frowned. No milk? How would her siblings survive?? It wasn't fair. She just stared at Bright with her two toned eyes sadly and looked down at the big female pup that chewed on her toes. A soft sigh issued. "Doctor is with her now." She added softly and picked up her sister, carefully cradling her between her jaws.
Turning without another word she carefully trotted back to the den. Bright more than likely behind her. She stopped at the mouth and peered down into the darkness. "Mother....Doctor?" She called down into the dark. "Bright has no milk." She said sadly and looked down at the ball of fiesty fluff between her toes.
What would they do if mother couldn't pull through? All of them would die...a deep sadness befell he and she nuzzled the pup at her feet. Waiting to hear word of what she should do she stared at the pup. So young ...so helpless. What would it do without mother? For that matter...what would she do?
Ears pinned and she awaited voices she knew were below.

The children paid no attention to him, but Serenity continued to watch, nonplussed. Nuri called them and they came running to him as he told them they were to be headed for the high dens. Serenity sighed, his bones old and weary, but his paws carrying him forward. He eased alongside Nuri as the young ones ran ahead, curious as to what the bru was going to teach them. A smile played on his lips. "They are growing quickly, aren't they?" he said, remembering when he had first come across them. They could barely see or stand, much less speak and run about. "And they flourish, as flowers do in the summer, and mature, as leaves do in the fall. They will carry the pack when in doubt, if raised by the light of the sun." He was a poetic soul, and his words came across as such. At the same time, he couldn't push away the thought of what was looming in Muerta. He knew he would have to speak of it, and at a time he could lend the Alpha's ear privately.
"But something ill rides the wind from the mountains," he said, glancing in the direction of Akira's pack. "I am no seer nor oracle, but I believe that something will be happening there, if not already. I do not know what, exactly. I have no evidence nor proof. Just know that I am not normally a skeptic." What more could he offer than his instinct? Someone, aside from him, had to know...

The herbs were finally starting to kick in. Ali heard Doctor's words, soft and clear. She nodded, thankful for his sympathy. He was right, she would meet her son and reunite with Koda, some day. And now that her fever was passing, today would not be that day, and she would live longer to see her newborn children grow. She kissed them, knowing that the fever was dying away, though she still felt hot. When Doctor asked her if she had named them, she shook her head. "No," she replied. "Not yet, anyways... Robin will help me, as we did with our first litter." She remembered that morning quite clearly in her mind. The sun streaming at the entrance of the den, Robin slowly entering, and getting the biggest smile she had ever seen on his face. Koda, Robin Junior, and Jewel nestled against her belly... Just as two different pups were now, her third with Jewel, and the fourth now to roam in the realms of Fenrir. Her sickness had been a necessary evil, a cleanse, if you will, to bringing in this new litter. They would see better days, the light in Tirisfal Valley, and be raised by the pureness of the pack. She knew it with all her heart.
She nodded and accepted the turtle-shell bowl of water. It cooled her insides and calmed the fire that had broken out within. "This will come to pass," she said to Doctor. She knew that she had mostly likely gotten sick so quickly and severely, and recovered as such, because her body had been under so much stress. The weight of carrying these children, the grief of losing two sons, and all that had happened over the course of the past two years had hit her at the wrong moment, but that moment was over now. "I will be able to raise my children... Please, bring my daughters back. Both of them. I will be able to provide love and milk for them." She no longer pushed her pups away from her belly. She said these things if not for them or Doctor, but for herself. Things would be all right.
Robin now sat patiently outside the den, things having gone quiet within. Doctor accepted the water, but did not come out right after. He closed his eyes, praying to Fenrir that everything would turn out okay. Yes, he could grieve and accept it if they lost this litter, but he could not if he lost his wife. He had lost too many things already in his life. He would somehow have to be strong for Jewel, even if he wasn't sure what he would be able to do. All he could do, until Doctor came out again, was wait.
The pup nestled in Jewel's paws yelped and whimpered, tossing and turning, blind and fumbling and trying to escape. Crawl back into her mother's side, where she knew she could be fed. There was no milk here! And even if this scent was similar, she knew it was not her mother, and she nibbled at Jewel's toes. She was a feisty one, and she would let her older sister know.

| Ajax seemed to be having some difficulty answering him and he was aware of activities taking place in the pack. He couldn't help but cast a wary eye about, he needed to check on Doctor. Needed to check on everything if he was being honest. A low discontent growl rumbled in his chest at the pups reluctance. He had disappeared at the same time as Robbie and Nuri suspect the two were connected but he could not force the pup to speak. Glancing around at the youngsters at his feet he sighed. They all looked at him as if he were a menace come to eat one of their own. He cocked his head and collectively gave them the eye before snorting and saying. "Come along all of you, we're going to have a lesson." He walked around the pumps effectively herding them to where he wanted to go. They would stay to the higher points of the valley just in case. Once everyone who needed to be settled was in their places he would take some senior wolves to scout the damage that the herd had left. The high dens were a little less convenient for the pack but they would make do. It was still summer for the time being and the climb was not too bad even for his old legs.
"Elysia, please take the lead, I'll cover the back. We're going to the high dens" With that he playfully nipped each of the pups on the rump and chuckled. "Now march!" One had to remember what it was to be a pup and to have such a short list of worries. The ebon alpha watched the children happily as they departed for higher ground...

| Bright noticed as the other wolves arrived, Eve coming to her side, and the youngsters stopping nearby and dropping the hares she'd asked them to carry. However, her attention was on Jewel, for she knew something must be terribly wrong. Her ears pinned back as the fae asked for milk. Her mouth gaped open, then closed again. What could she do? It had been so long since her own pups had been weaned, she was sure she'd dried up. But then... her next heat would be due any time... She thought back to a time when she had birthed her first litter in lands far away. War with the neighbouring dark pack had forced her to strike a deal to give up one of her newborns in exchange for two hostages. Their father had wagered the deal, wanting to have one of his kin within his pack. A burly femora from that horrid pack of wolves had accompanied her to her den while she laboured, the fae prone to false pregnancies and affected instantly by the pheromones of birthing. Therefore she'd been able to take a newborn whelp and nurse her in that bitter pack until weaning. Would something like it be possible here, as well?
She could see that Jewel was itching to move. "Take me to your mother's den," she demanded, then hung her head slightly, "I don't have any milk left... but we have to find out if we can make it flow again." She glanced to the newborn pup at Jewel's paws, willing her body to understand. She wasn't sure if this would work... what would they do if she could not produce milk? "If not I will make haste to the other packs to seek help," she wouldn't hesitate to ask for help from the other packs; it would be worth it if they could save these whelps. However, their time was short, and they needed to act swiftly. Now Bright waited on Jewel, ready to follow her to the den.

| Jewel turned looking at Bright and frowned. "Please...My mother is having difficulties...Please Bright...do you yet have milk?" Her two toned eyes shown worry. She was worried for her mother and for the other pups in the den. "Can you feed them?"" She asked.
Her head tilted from one side to the other and she gave a heavy sigh. "There are more..." She prayed that the fem still had milk. Without milk the pups would die and then what would happen? She didn't know if they could survive on her mother's milk...her mother certainly didn't think so which was why she sent Jewel to find Bright. "Mother is ill." She added, her voice sounding small and worried. "Please...take her..I have to get the others..." Her feet shifted as if itching to move.
Please let there be milk.

| He grimaced a little, despite knowing there was nothing he could have done. The newborn had, unfortunately, been doomed since before birth. It was the horrible truth he never wanted to accept. Despite seeing death countless time, he could never be used to it. Of course, if he could acclimate, what would that make him? Doctor didn't want to think of the answer.
Still... "I'm sorry." There wasn't anything he could say to ease the pain, but he offered, "You and Robin will meet him when the time comes, and Koda won't be lonely until then." There was little to do but check on her temperature every so often. Not a complicated process. "Did you name them yet?" he ventured.
Some minutes later, he heard Robin's voice drift to his ears, quickly told Ali he'd be right back, and carefully made his way to the entrance, and said, "Thank you, Robin. I'll be out really soon and then you can see her. Promise." Then he gingerly picked up the shell, descending back in.
Back with Ali, he put the shell next to her, careful to place it away from her deceased son, having few other options to currently show respect. "Up to drinking some water? Robin brought it for you so you don't dry up. I'll check your temperature once more and then let him in. After that, I, or Jewel if you'd rather, will come in every so often to make sure unless we get called." He hovered nearby in case she needed him to tilt the shell slightly.

| .where do we go when we just don't know. .how do we relight the flame when it's cold. .why do we dream when our thoughts mean nothing. .and when will we learn to control.
It appeared that his brother was biding time for something. For what, Serenity could not determine at that moment. He laid his head on his paws, lavender orbs studying Priest's tall, white form, so similar to his own but backwards in every intention within his mind. What did he want? He did not like the way he looked Haru, so judgmental and... thirsty. It made Serenity want to leap and protect the young boy from whatever poison spilled from his brother's mouth, but he restrained himself. He had to give Haru a chance to ignore what Priest was saying before butting in, as well as a chance to fend himself from Ajax... At the same time, it was clear to see that he was outmatched as they tussled on the grass. As an elder, and since the boy's father was absent for the time being, he knew that it would fall to his responsibility to train him, despite his ancient bones.
He stretched and stood, having his rest. At that moment, standing in the summer sunlight, something within him shifted... An uneasy feeling, one that made him turn to the southeast, where the Muerta Mountains loomed. It was as if it were a wind cascading down through the valley, dark and sickening, as a plague would, or the feeling right before a treacherous storm. It was an omen, without a doubt, but of what, he did not know. He was not a seer; he was just a man with strong, spiritual ties the world around him. He knew that whatever was happening, was taking place within Muerta, and he would not take action until there was solid evidence that danger was on the horizon.
It wasn't hard to discover the location of the pups amongst the clusters of trees and tall grasses, hearing them chomp and growl on the food that Bright had delivered to them. He approached and sat down, a whimsical smile on his worn features. "Tastes good, does it not?" he said in a soft, sandy tone. Children were a joy to him, and in the back of his mind, he wondered where the pup that had come in with him, Corset, had ran off to. No doubt adventuring throughout the terrace, like any young wolf would. Regardless, he did not worry about it, for he knew that the borders of Tirisfal were well protected. The pack may have had its own troubles, but very little were caused by the neighboring packs. Hence, why he did not worry about the omen descending from Muerta Mountains.

Robin's head jerked up at the sound of Doctor's voice from within the den. He hurried over, wincing as he walked, but ignoring the pain for now. It would heal in time. "Yes, I'm here," he said, feeling rested and wanting to make himself useful. He needed to be useful. He knew that Ali would hear his voice echoing in the den, and he hoped that it could reassure her somehow, some way. He loved her so much, and would do anything for her. Doctor said she needed water, and Robin nodded with a firm brow. "I'll be back soon. Promise," he replied, and headed straight for the lake. He knew exactly what to look for as he strode into the cool water, streaming past his ankles and littered with minnows, crawdads, and tadpoles. He went more into the weeds than the shore, the mud seeping between his toes, and paused, maroon eyes searching for... There! A small head poked out from beneath the still water, waiting to flee, but the Arctic was well-trained in catching these sorts of prey. He lunged for the body beneath the surface, snatching the turtle in his paws and throwing it as hard as he could onto land, disorientating it and flipping it onto its back. He didn't like what he had to do, but it was necessary to the survival of his family. After the deed was done, he carried the turtle shell in his mouth, washing it off in the lake with a shake of his head. He would have to carry it carefully in his maw if he wanted to keep it from spilling.
With a slower pace than his leave, he set the bowl-shaped turtle shell filled with water down at the entrance of the den. "I'm back," he woofed into the den, hearing the whimpers of his newborn children. What did they look like? What would they name them? How he wanted to curl up beside her as he had done with their first litter, and ruminate what the future would bring.
The voice of her husband when he was leaving brought Ali back to the present, the scene of the frozen tundra vanishing to the darkness of the den. He was... leaving? Panic initially struck through her and she stirred, whining for him, but Doctor spoke and she became still. She had forgotten that he was here. Her brow furrowed. "Fever?" she muttered, sounding confused, but it would explain the raw taste in her mouth and the hotness beneath her skin. She nodded, her head heavy, the small world that she was in spinning as she did so. She closed her eyes, trying to maintain her focus. Doctor was talking again... Talking about some place she had never been. She tried to imagine it, but was distracted by the two pups buried into her side, a male and female, both white in color. She knew where the third one was, the female that Jewel had, but the fourth one brought tears to her eyes. He was too small, too still.
"Doctor... He's gone," she choked, her nose nudging the runt of the litter, who was curled between her paws, not breathing or showing any signs of life. She licked his form with her tongue, hoping to awaken him, but she held nothing but death. "I love you," she whispered to him, the pain resonating through her chest, keeping her more focused than anything else at the moment. She didn't know if this little boy, one that his brothers and sisters might never know, would ever know how much she truly did. "Koda will guide you."
| | OOC: Just so everyone knows, the two other pups are up for grabs. A male and a female. Both white in color. PM me with what you would like to name them, and feel free to start playing them whenever you wish :) | |

| The obsidian black wolf looked to the pack wolf with her golden eyes, nodding her head gently. "Nice to meet you too, Bright Moon." Her soft tongue stayed in her mouth, as she looked at the forehead and upward a bit, looking at the territory. It seemed to be large enough to keep the number of wolves it currently has, seeing as this place was huge. It would seem to be able to have enough room for one wolf... well, now three. Eve looked to the two whelps that walked up, her snout twitching slightly. She wondered where they had come from. "I'm Eve," she commented after Bright spoke to them. The female slowly looked to the gray wolf as she asked if they had heard the sound of the voice. Now that she had mentioned the fact, Eve could recall hearing something in that nature. Slowly, her ears perked on her head as she looked to the pups. It seemed as though they were not purebred wolves, as she looked deeper. It seemed as though they had more in them. Then, the voice of Bright Moon made her jump a bit, as she asked if she would come along. It seemed something serious was happening inside the realm of Tirisfal Valley. "Coming," she replied, trotting after the gray wolf. As she come closer to the dens, she lowered her ears a bit. The black wolf stood aside the wolf that brought her in the land, looking to the other wolf she spoke to. Kenai+++Ernestine The two whelps looked carefully to the gray wolf with curious behavior. Ernestine mimicked the tail wag of Bright Moon, her tiny ears perked. "Nice to meet you both." She looked back to her brother, as he licked his lips, eyeing the black female that seemed to be studying them. His once pricked ears lowered slightly, shuffling his paw nervously. He wondered why Eve was looking at their body so much. Did she suspect something? The voice of Bright Moon made him prick his ears, asking if they heard a noise from in the territory. Kenai looked to his sister, while his tail swayed to his right side. Ernestine looked to him, flexing on of her paws before looking back to the female. It seemed they both didn't know, as the wolf of this pack asked them to help carry the two hares. They both nodded, as they trotted over to the prey. The male grabbed the one that looked the heaviest, as he knew that Nestine would have trouble getting. The two pair of siblings trotted after the larger and much faster Bright Moon. Kenai was slightly lagging behind due to the hare, but he pushed through. Ernestine was able to keep up with the two wolves, though when she saw him unable to keep up, she slowed down beside him. The brother and sister finally reached the place where Bright had stopped, as they dropped them momentarily until told to do something else they asked. Kenai fluttered his eyes only for a moment, before lowering his rump on the dirt patch, while his sister did the same. | |

| And there it was. Things were starting to make sense now that Doctor knew what was ailing Ali. From the corner of his eye, he saw that the female that hadn't been taken by Jewel was cautiously trying to squirm over to her mother in the instinctual need for milk. Ali herself was already eating at the herbs. The fever would take a toll on the new mother, and he wasn't very mobile right now. Robin was still outside, but was he still resting?
Turning towards the den entrance in order to try to keep his volume down, he called out, "Robin? Are you up yet? She needs water to stay hydrated and help lower her fever. The pups are fine for the moment." One of the males didn't seems to be very active, but he hoped it didn't mean the worst. Still, three healthy pups was good, as long as Jewel could find a milk source for them. If possible, the water he was trying to request would be for drinking and positioned to rest on her head. It was too dangerous to transport her, and it wouldn't do to almost drown her. It wasn't much, but he could imagine even the smallest touch of cold would help. It was moments like these where he wished herbs could work quicker. He would have to make sure she didn't consume too much.
"You're doing good, Ali. Doesn't look like anything went wrong, other than the fever. Just keep your eyes open until I see the herbs are taking an effect. Robin's outside, you know. Overexerted himself a bit, but he's fine. Sleeping it off. We're going to get you some water as soon as possible. Well... the others will, considering how neither of us are in condition to move around with any haste. Let's see... maybe an exciting story might keep you occupied for a while?" He wasn't quite sure if he was taking the best course of action, but he was a bit concerned that Ali didn't seem to be... present all the time. Whatever she was thinking or seeing, illnesses didn't tend to show good memories or visions. If it was something good, then she'd probably happily ignore what he was saying. Something had to be offered to keep her grounded.
"This feels like a long time ago, and this was well before I stumbled upon these lands. I was in another place with weird... I hadn't really caught what they were called, but they looked like boars without the tusks, but very huge and grey with thick, wrinkly skin. They had a horn above their nose and ate grass. Apparently none of them had very good visions, and were quick to judge things as a threat. From what I observed, they seemed orderly and very caring about their young. I watched as some large cats and other meat dieter tried to go after the young, but the parents always used those horns to drive them away. It was... an interesting species to observe."

| Bright Moon looked back into the other's eyes, seeing an emotionless cover veiling the windows to her soul. Something about the fae's eyes reminded Bright of herself. Then the fae panted slightly, showing that her black coat caused her to overheat - it was clear that she would need shelter soon, and Bright knew many places where she could rest. As the fae said this pack might be right for her, Bright smiled, but like Eve, her eyes remained veiled. "Nice to meet you, Eve," she said quietly, giving a slight wag of her tail, "My name is Bright Moon." Just as she was about to invite the fae to go meet the others and come find shelter, water and food, they were approached by two youngsters. Bright was pleased to see so many new faces at once. It had been a while since she had done anything but raise the other whelps, but they were getting old enough that they didn't really need her so much. As a mother and confident, yes, but as a provider, certainly not. She wasn't sure what she would do with herself once nobody needed her anymore.
She was amused by the way the sister cut off her seemingly shyer brother in order to speak for herself. "Welcome Kenai and Ernestine, this is Tirisfal Valley," she greeted the pups, wagging her tail to them, "I'm Bright Moon, Are you looking for a home as well?" She tilted her head. Just then she heard a voice, and her head shot upward, ears straining forward. She had heard her name, and it sounded desperately urgent. Who could possibly be calling to her? Scenting the air, she took in Jewel's scent and that unmistakable newborn scent. She hadn't had much time to get to know Jewel - had she had a litter of her own? Why did her tone sound so urgent? "Did you hear that?" she asked, her gaze shifting back to the others, a serious look in her eyes suddenly, "I have to see who that is." She looked to the hares she had dropped on the ground, which she had hunted down for Ely and Haru. "Kenai, Ernestine, I know this is sudden but would you carry those two hares and follow me?" she thought that maybe some food on-hand could be useful, although she wasn't sure what was going on yet. "Eve, would you come as well?" she asked, "We may need some extra paws."
Now she didn't have time to wait. Her heart tugged at her to fulfill whatever was asked of her. Coming to the den site, she was surprised to see Jewel standing outside of the den she'd once occupied, a newborn whelp between her forepaws. It seemed she had come to the den looking for her. But why wasn't she in a den of her own? Looking over the fae, she suddenly realized that Jewel showed no signs of pregnancy or labour - she was lean and fit, and she had no milk. She trotted quickly over to the fae, her brows knit with concern. "Jewel?" she tilted her head, "What's going on? Who's whelp is that?"

| Kenai+++Ernestine "Hurry up Kenai, you soft jaw." "Awwh, you said a bad word!"
Two small whelps walked side by side, the male lagging behind only slightly. The gray male nipped playfully at the brown female's ear, her yip echoing the area near them. They had traveled from the Barren Wastelands. It was so hot there, compared to this land. At least this place wasn't so hot like their home. They had only recently found out that packs were places all over the large island, but they had decided together that they would travel to find a pure aligned pack. Kenai, the male, panted softly looking his sister, Ernestine. The two then leaped to a trot, as the tawny female exchanged gazes. "I wonder where Momma and Papa went. If they did go somewhere." The memory of the attack on their home surged through her mind. Two males ripping up their den, their home; their parents and siblings were not in sight, or smell. The two assumed the worse, dead. They had lived in the wasteland together, since they had been so close since they was born. The large male looked to the female, nudging her on the cheek in encouragement. "I think we're near the other wolves now." The nine month old whelps could smell the pack as they slowed down to a soft walk. Ernestine has more graceful, while Kenai looked as if he was a stalking wolf, careful of his surroundings. They had already seen a gray female with another wolf, which was black. The male's brown eyes looked to his sister. He carefully walked a bit closer to the gray female, his eyes pealed widely, ears perked. Kenai looked to the brown whelp walking but beside him, with the same curiosity. "H-Hi. I'm Kenai. And this is-" He was cut off. "I'm Ernestine," commented the small female. "I can speak for myself, thank you very much." She looked to her brother, a small smile on her mouth as they both looked to Bright Moon.

| The obsidian black wolf looked around with her haunches resting against the grass. Slowly, her ears perked as she heard the slight sound of feet. At the moment, she pushed up on her hind legs watching the female walk close to her. Eve slightly pinned her ears against her skull, while her emotionless and golden eyes looked into the others. With her mind focused on the horizon, she could feel a pack was there. It smelled like it on the fem's pelt as she listened carefully to the wolf. Her maw slightly opened, her tongue loomed a bit out due do the heat. Eve blamed her reflective black pelt. "Hello," she returned the greeting slowly. Her bushy tail swiped across her flank, feeling an annoying bug landing on it. "Yes, I have been looking for a pack. Perhaps this one will be just right." She paused, licking her lips and looked to Bright Moon. Her maw had closed as she continued. "My name is Eve." Her nose slightly twitched as she looked back. "What's yours," question the two year wolfess. Her tongue licked the top of her mouth, feeling the slight growl of her stomach. It wasn't loud, but she could feel it. She would ask for food later; it was rude to ask for food when you first arrive. | |

She buried herself in the warmth, digging deeper and deeper to find the fullest tit latched to her mother's side. Her brother and sister clambered beside her, whimpering for the same one, and she kicked one of them out of the way, directing them to another nipple. The sweet, nectarine milk flooded her tiny mouth and she suckled hard and long, drinking it all in, when suddenly it was no more. A ghost of a growl resonated through her little frame, though large for a newborn pup, but it wasn't loud enough to be heard. Unhappiness flooded through her, something she had never known before, and she was soon crying as loud as her siblings, her yelps like a wounded bird. Where was the milk? Why was it taken away? What was happening? She was being held by her scruff, her body going limp, ridding her of an inborn ability to want to fight. She was lifted and move, but she could not see where; she shivered as she carried somewhere colder, away from the warmth of her mother, and then laid down between a pair of paws. She turned and placed her toothless mouth on them, not knowing what they were, but hoping they would give milk. A wetness and warmth washed over her again, and a muddled, feminine voice. Who was this? This was not her mother. But the scent of her mother, who she had known both inside and out now, lingered on who this was. Something within her told her that she was not in danger, but she was hungry and tired and just wanted to be with her mother. She flopped onto her back to feel the tongue on her belly, tiny paws batting the air, as if to grab onto something. The hunger knotted in her belly and she cried out again, yearning for that taste of milk she had only briefly guzzled down.
Ali tried not to cry out as she felt the ball of warmth of her first-born removed from her side, the pain more emotional than physical. Guilt and negativity wracked through her, on top of being fraught with fever; she was a mother, a provider, and provide, she could not. Regardless, she had complete faith in Jewel, and knew that this second litter would be strong. And yet... There was the one male, the small one, the one that did not cry out like his siblings. Ali stretched for him and pulled him close to her, so that he, too, could be warm against her fur, but warmth was all she could provide. She had to nose away the other two from her teats, for if they drank the milk, they too, could get sick with the awful fever.
A male's voice echoed in the darkness of the den. Instinct wracked through her and she released a snarl, but it was half-hearted. Reason told her it was Doctor. "Yes... Doctor..." she said, her vision blurring with whiteness once again. She wouldn't let herself fall asleep. She had to maintain consciousness. She had chewed some of the herbs and they helped keep the flashes of the arctic and sled-dogs at bay, but she knew that sleep would only welcome them. "Fe... Fever..." she mumbled, panting, her body feeling as if she was on fire. She wanted to tear out of the den and splash into the cold waters of Serenity Lake, but she could barely convince herself to move, her muscles stiff. She was embarrassed to be in such a position, and her blue orbs, foggy and hazed with sickness, swung to meet Doctor's in silent plea. He could help her, she knew that, she had to trust in that.
Whimpering sounds echoed in Robin's ears. They twitched as he came to, his head lying on a soft bed of brush and his body covered with medicinal herbs. He was still sore, but he could move again without being blinded by pain. The cuts from racing through the thorns earlier were scabbed, and he would have to clean them up later, but for now he could only fret over what was happening in the den. Jewel's scent was gone, and he wanted to chase after her, but knew it was smarter to stay close to his wife. He stood up straighter as he heard Doctor's voice from within the den; a snarl crossed his features to protect his mate and children, but he shook it away. "He's a good man," he said aloud, more to himself than anyone else. He would help Ali and her sickness, just as he himself had brought the herbs. Doctor would be the only one that would know what to do with them, and how to make Ali better. At this point in time, though, Robin could do nothing. He was powerless against the forces of nature. He looked down hard at the ground, feeling as if the weight of the world were on his shoulders, and began to pace back and forth, back and forth, back and forth... Who knew what the outcome of this day would be.

| The pup Jewel took out was squirming, probably trying to find its mother. He could have taken the extra seconds to check the gender, but his primary focus was on Ali and Robin. Doctor's attention was on Jewel's voice, and not on the pup, who told him he was wanted in the den. Nodding, he didn't spend time watching her leave, but glanced at Robin. Earlier he had softened the earth near Robin's head and gently pushed him over the more pillowed location, out of the direct path to the den. It wasn't the most comfortable thing, but more so than it previously had been. Sighing at what little he could do, he ducked down and made his way into the den, careful not to put any pressure on the broken limb. He didn't like to fight, but he exercised hard to maintain toned muscles for emergency situations that required strength. Getting into the den wasn't too difficult, and in some seconds, he could see Ali and three other pups, who he assumed Jewel would take to Bright. "Ali?" he questioned. The herbs were nearby, but he wasn't yet very focused on them. Ali herself seemed bent on keeping the pups away. He got a bit closer until his nose just touched her before pulling back. High temperature. Things were starting to fall into place, but there were still some possibilities. He could keep prodding, but her waited to see if Ali knew and would tell him. | |

| Jewel looked at her mother and she moaned the word 'Fever.' Frowing and pinning her ears she then heard Doctor's voice. Looking back toward the entrance she listened and then replied with a soft "Okay."
Turning back to her mother she frowned. Her mother wanted her to take the pups away from her?? This wasn't good. "Yes mother...I love you too." She said knowing it was true and feeling the emotion of it well up into her eyes. Four pups were nestled next to her mother's teats and she would pick up the one closest to her which was the large one ...the first born, though buried her her mother's fur. 'I will mother...hang in there...everything will be okay" She tried to reassure but felt helpless. She prayed that Bright still had milk.
Slipping from the den she paused resting the squirming pup on her paws to talk to Doctor. "Mother wishes for you. She told me to take the pups to Bright hoping she still has milk." Fear was in the two toned gems in Jewel's face. "I will be back for the others.." She said and quickly moved to find Bright's den.
She lay the pup at her feet and called for Bright from the entrance. "Bright!" she said a urgent note to her tone. Licking the pup between her paws softly she cooed to it. "It will be okay. Mother will be okay." She offered it more for herself than the pup.

She was running, her paws sprinting across the white-white landscape, covering miles upon miles at a time. Though there were the other dogs beside her, she could hear nothing but her own breath, the jingling of her harness, the occasional shout of the musher, echoing throughout the cold, Arctic air. They would cross plains and climb mountains together; an unstoppable team. There was no other thing like it. She was running and running and then, out of the corner of her eye, she saw a white wolf ahead, her two-toned eyes staring right at her, reflecting concern.
Ali raised her head in the darkness of the den. An instinctual growl built up in her chest, but the familial scent washed over and she recognized it as Jewel, and it faded away. "Fever..." she moaned, nose also taking in the scent of the herbs. Robin... He must have returned. Where was he? She didn't know, but she had faith that he was safe. However, she couldn't eat them until the pups were removed from her side.
"Take them with you... to the closest den... Call for Bright... She might still... have milk..." Ali replied, hearing the panic in her daughter's voice. She wasn't sure if Bright would have any milk left, as it had been several weeks since she had given birth, but it was worth a shot. Better than letting her newborn children starve or get sick from her own milk. "I... will be okay... They know who I am... They will know you, too. I... I love you, Jewel." At this point, there were now four pups buried into Ali's side; two males and two females. There was much waste in the den, and Ali was too sick and feverish to clean all of it up. "Take them... and send Doctor in," she said, though every time she blinked, she saw swirls of snowflakes behind her eyelids. She had heart, and somewhere in her mind, that this would not be her time of passing. No, she had so much more to live for than that. If anything, like the birth of her children, this was the birth of a new era. And, sometimes to get rid of the old, one had to undergo serious sickness to bring in the new.
The pups wriggled into Ali's warm - almost too warm - vanilla underbelly, whimpering to suckle her teats, but the husky had to push them away with her nose. She wanted to clean them of their muck, but doing so would have brought more harm than good. Ali was all that they had known, and they could sense someone else in the den. It was familiar, but at the same time, very unfamiliar. They buried deeper into her coat, still shedding from the winter, trying to hide, little heartbeats racing as they climbed and toppled over one another. The largest pup, a dark-colored female, managed to snuggle the deepest in, kicking her brothers and sister out. Regardless, the other pups wouldn't give up... Except the newest male, of average size and white in color, who didn't move much at all.

| He watched Jewel gather the herbs and vanish into the den. As an afterthought, he gently called after her and in a purely objective voice, "If the pups are already out, make sure the connection between them and the mother are severed. Sometimes mothers are too exhausted to do so themselves. It doesn't have to be perfectly next to the skin, because once severed, the cord will shrivel and fall naturally. Give their health a quick preliminary check, then clean them from the blood and fluids. You can conduct a more thorough check once all of the litter is out or between pups. Monitor the mother throughout, but keep in mind a willing mother will always value the lives of her children and existing family over her own. If there is a decision between lives and the mother is unconscious and other family is not available to decide, keep that fact in mind, and make a decision. It holds that the healer has the ultimate say, but weigh the consequences of that choice. He didn't know what was wrong with Ali, and so couldn't tell Jewel what to do with the herbs, but at the very least, he could save Ali her breath and give direction for the pups. He had to separate his feelings before he worked himself up with worry over something he couldn't control. Sometimes being a healer was the most difficult duty, one that some wolves took for granted. There was a darker side to healing, and that didn't necessarily include the art of poisons. It's one thing to kill a wolf in war, as both wolves go into battle prepared to die for their cause, even if they don't want to. Doctor found it far more difficult to deliberately choose who lives and who dies outside war. Most healers kept the worst case scenario of any situation in mind, and he hoped Jewel wouldn't have to make that choice yet. | |

| Jewel heard her mother's voice and her snowy ears pinned against her skull. Take the pups as they come? It wasn't supposed to happen like this. Her two toned gems went wide and she looked to Doctor for guidance. she didn't know what to do...take the pups from her mother??? Her mouth opened to speak and she heard her mother's pain filled voice call her name once more.
Just as that hit her ears she turned and saw her father collapsing with the herbs they needed. She met his eyes as he closed them, passing out. Panic filled her and she was torn on which way to go. Doctor thankfully stepped in and tended to her father. she needed to act...quickly she grabbed up the necessities that her father had dropped and slipped into the dark quiet of the den.
The warmth and smell of birthing fluids hit her nose first as she crept into the darkness. She heard her mother's breath and the soft noises of a pup. "Mother.." She said quietly trying to keep the fear and panic from her voice. "Here are the herbs. What do I need to do?" She said standing there confused. She had never had pups before nor witnessed the birthing process. Licking her nose she steadied herself. She didn't want her mother to die...something was wrong else Ali would have birthed the pups just fine without anyone here.
Her gut twisted at the thought of her mother possibly dying. Ali couldn't die...everyone needed her here...and if she did the pups would die too because who would feed them? She kept those dark thoughts to herself and instead spoke to fill the thick air. "The herbs are here too."

| The wording. That caught his attention more than anything else. You're going to have to take the pups from me as they come. He was all too used almost cryptic word choices before an end. He realized he hadn't been inhaling air, took a breath, and saw Robin come back with herbs. Doctor's eye caught onto Robin's wavering form, and when the other started to collapse after depositing the herbs, it was due to pure instinct Doctor quickly moved to position himself to ease the descent. He'd quickly adapted to keep most of the pressure off his bad leg. The sprained one would protest, but at the end of the day still heal. Maneuvering himself, Doctor stuck his nose by Robin's neck, feeling and listening for the pulsing under the skin.
"He's fine for now. Exhausted. Get those to Ali. I'll watch your dad." He silently begged to anything out there that Ali was just delirious and didn't know what she was saying, or his ears were playing tricks on him, and that it hadn't been a mistake to not push Jewel to her mother's side earlier. This family didn't deserve any ill happenings. No. All he could do was trust that Ali would be fine, even if she currently wasn't. He didn't hear anything else from the den as he took a silent vigil over both the den and Robin. If he'd been able to, he'd have gone looking for calming flowers for the stressed wolf. He needed to relax, but it was understandably difficult. Nevertheless, though, he'd convince the other to take an extended break.

Jewel's voice reached her before Doctor's. She whimpered in response, surrounded by the damp and the dark, but she could not move to see them. Any slight movement caused her pain, and she tended to what more was to come. "No," she replied in between pants. She heard Doctor, and said to the both of them, "I... I sent Robin for herbs. But Jewel... Jewel, I need you. Come here. You're going to have to take the pups from me as they come. I... I'm..." Ali couldn't finish the sentence, for the very thought broke her heart. She wouldn't be able to stay with her children in the den, as she had when she had had her first litter. She was further interrupted as a second whelp came, much larger than the first, dark in color and female. Ali nosed her to her brother, another wave of pain rippling through her. "Jewel..."
In the meantime, Robin loped into the familiar meadow, located between the Low Dens and Snowfall's Lookout. Unfortunately, it was not much of a meadow anymore after the elk herd had migrated through, crushing every leaf, flower, and bush underhoof. Regardless, he would not let his determination be crushed. This was possibly a matter of life and death; Robin aspire to the life. He could not afford death. Without further ado, he swung his nose to the earth, inhaling deeply for the sharp stench of garlic. He thought he found it, but discovered a grove of wild onions instead. A growl of frustration bubbled in his chest, but he was rewarded with a small patch of garlic a few steps further. He yanked out as much as he could find, the strong stink making is maroon eyes water, but he would carry on.
The arctic wolf went to the outer edges of the meadow in search of the red raspberry leaves, knowing that they were found more in bushes and shadows that sunlight and grass. He found great thickets of blackberries and blueberries; why was he finding everything he didn't need? He picked his head through the thorns, wincing as he did so, the tiny edges slicing his pads and sticky burrs catching in his fur. But he charged through and snapped his entire jaw around a raspberry bush, the garlic still in maw. Spiders danced all around him, laying their webs on his sunset-streaked fur. "Good," he muttered, glad he didn't have to chase after them as well. His return journey would take longer than his setting out, but he would make it the most he could. One thorn or two had managed to sink itself deep into his right paw, and he could not put much weight on it without hurting himself.
But, he soldiered on, leaving bloody footsteps on the padded earth and flattened grass in his wake. "There's been worse than this," he growled to himself. It was true. He had fended off the wolves of Muerta, the coyotes along the borders, the bears in the woods, and more recently, the stampeding elk. Yet, at the same time, this battle was just as difficult. It meant everything. Without Ali, he would not - could not - have a family. But, he would have Jewel, and his children to come... If they survived. And Jewel was growing more and more distant every day. He hoped that she would understand how much he and Ali needed her now. These thoughts waged war in his head as he made his way to the Low Dens once again. He would make it. He was being counted on.
His family needed him.
And, the Delta arrived, limping and covered with brush, but the necessary things in tact. He nearly collapsed at the sight of Doctor and Jewel. He dropped the herbs at their feet, shaking as he stood. "Give these to... her..." he rasped, and passed out, from a combination of fatigue and stress. He hadn't rested long enough, and he had pushed himself harder than intended. The last he saw was Jewel's two-toned eyes, fearful and searching for him. Or at least, that's what he interpreted it as.
Was... Was that Robin? Ali thought she heard his voice, but she wasn't sure. Her head wasn't clear. She could hear many other voices and sounds, too, and she reasonably knew that they weren't inside the den... "Gee!" shouted a gruff, male voice. A human voice. "Haw!" shouted another. Many barks. Snow crunching underfoot. She was back on the team, strapped into the leather harness, plowing through the icy tundra of the North. A smaller, quieter whimper captured her attention, and she returned to the darkness of the den, a third, medium-sized female pup arriving with the other two at her side. "Ssh..." she whispered to them, motherly instinct kicking in, but what use was it if she couldn't calm herself? "You'll... be okay. Your... older sister will take care of you..." she said, trusting in her daughter with full, honest faith. "All of you... Cascade... Arella... and..." She would have named her final daughter, but the pain became so intense that she could not say it. Her world of darkness became bright again with snow and sun, and she lost herself in the endless white wastelands with the dog sleds.

| Her father's words didn't phase her and his touch though seeming foreign now was not unwelcome. She watched him run to her mother. It was good that they had eachother and this new batch of pups...they would replace her and her brothers.
Jewel took a deep breath and would flatten her ears trying to accept Doctor's words as best as she could. Her heart didn't forgive herself though for it. "Okay." She said softly and then with his mention of reapplying the herbs she nodded and moved to assist him.
She knew what to do, her mother's training was not for naught. Doctor's words had come next and she would stare at him as he finished speaking. Her body gave an involuntary tremble and she licked her lips blinking her two toned eyes to rid them of emotion. "I think the idea he liked better had yellow eyes and a fluffy grey tail." She said her voice monotone. "Every male grows up. Sister's aren't those kinds of companions....he is gone now...that is all." she said the words stinging her heart as she said them. "There will be new brothers to tend to and worry after soon I am sure."
Anger boiled in her..but she didn't let it show. Following Doctor they made their way down. she frowned at his pace but said nothing. "MOther...?" She called finally echoing Doctor's voice. "Are you alright?"

| Haru listened closely as Nuri questioned his brother, and Esa stood next to him, as though to support him if he rebelled. Why did she have to act like such a little hellion? He knew that when she was alone, she was so quiet and reserved, and even though she shot mutinous glares at everyone, she still obeyed the orders of her elders. As Ely came up beside him, bumping his shoulder and flashing him a smile, he shot her a grin in return. Though they'd only kindled a friendship for a short time, he was really beginning to enjoy it. It wasn't really enough to have his mother chasing after him for his attention, always checking to see if he was alright. He was grown, and he didn't need her to dote on him as she did. He appreciated her care, but he needed his individuality now. He felt like he could be himself around Ely, without being treated like a child or being picked on. He sat down, wondering if Ajax would be able to produce an answer, or if he would remain silent.
Esa stood quietly at Ajax's side when Nuri and the others came over. Clearly they were here to interrogate him, like he'd done something wrong, and should have answers ready immediately. She glared at them, putting a paw forward. She wanted to say something to make them go, but she couldn't say anything at the moment. She knew Ajax could take care of himself, and she didn't want to be the girl to fight his battles. She would only make an embarrassment out of herself. She glanced over to the young bru she admired, wondering what he would say in response to Nuri, in front of his peers.
Bright was just returning from her hunt, which she had been quite successful at. She had two large hares in her jaws, and her neck drooped with the weight after carrying them both for a long distance. She was not far from the site where most of Tirisfal had gathered when she came upon a youngster who looked like she probably shouldn't be alone; the smallest of howls came from her. No parent seemed to be with her, but Bright felt glad that the whelp had come across this territory - she may not survive otherwise. She dropped her prey and padded softly over to the little fae. "Hey sweetheart," she greeted gently, "Are you looking for a home? This is Tirisfal Valley. We always have room for one more." She smiled with welcome to the young one, hoping that she would not be afraid. Chances were she was a little scared and unsure of what would happen to her, being alone. But if the fae would let her, Bright would make sure that she felt at home and was well taken care of.

| Steadily moving, Doctor and Jewel made their way to the Low Dens. He was pacing them faster than he probably should be walking, but it was important for a healer to be with Ali, and since Jewel wasn't leaving his side... Still, he couldn't help but to be grateful, and it'd probably give her a bit more time to wrap her head around the sudden news. Doctor himself would have been more excited if it weren't for his blasted leg. Sprains were fine, but the broken one was annoying. He would have done it all over again, though, for any of the pack.
As they got within view, the absence of Robin worried him. He should have been here. Nuri wouldn't have tasked him. Was something wrong? With those thoughts, Doctor pushed to travel those last meters quicker while stabilizing himself in case Jewel were to also notice and run ahead. "Ali? Is everything fine?" he called out, wanting to enter the den to see with his own eyes. He had his own injuries to deal with, especially if he wanted to ensure his broken leg would be functional again. A limp was better than losing it

Robin nodded. Maroon eyes snapped to Jewel. "Your mother and I wanted to tell you earlier, to give you time to prepare," he said, hoping that she wasn't angry. "And I'm relieved to see that you're safe from the stampede." He nuzzled her cheek with a suppressed whimper, showing that she still meant the world to him, and that above all, love and family is what meant the most to him. He smiled and winked at Doctor, and then loped off for the Low Dens. "Ali! Ali!" he barked, sliding down the muddy spring hillside, hoping that his voice would reach her ears. Birth and blood was in the air, and he turned away from his and Ali's den to Bright's den; it made sense that Ali would be there, seeing as it was the closest. He ducked his head into the tight space. "Ali? Are you all right?"
The husky whimpered and groaned, curled in extreme pain. She was bleeding. "Robin?" she panted in between contractions. This was more than a difficult delivery. She needed help, medicine, and was unable to move. Robin was too large to fit inside the den. "Where... Where is Jewel? I need her help."
"She's helping Doctor. They're on their way, but it's going to take a little time," Robin replied. "What do you need?"
"Garlic... and spiderwebs. Red raspberry leaf, too... Hurry, my love. Hurry."
"With utmost haste," Robin said, and turned on his heel, bounding for the meadow. It was where he knew there were plenty of plants and herbs, but he didn't know what was in season, much less what all of them looked like. He would have to use his nose to find the strong-smelling garlic, and his eyes for the spiderwebs and raspberry leaves. It would take extra concentration, but he was determined to find the herbs, for Ali's sake, if not his future children.
It didn't take Ali long for the first pup to come. She couldn't tell how many she was expecting, but as she licked clean the first one, she noted how small it was. It was either the runt, or premature, or she was having many more than she expected. She didn't let her hesitance get the best of her now, though, as she didn't want her newborn son to panic. He nestled into her warm fur, still fluffed from winter, and he suckled on one of her many teats. She wanted to push him away, in case she may be infected, but who else would be able to provide milk? It was such a complicated situation, and she had none to help her. Where was Jewel? Where was Doctor? She couldn't do this alone.

| He didn't physically react to her joke, but when she ended with an apology, an expression flashed across his face, too quick for identification, before he responded, "Jewel. There's not need to apologize. I chose to push you out of the way, knowing the consequences. If you feel you must apologize, I'll forgive you as much as you need. Really. And you're smart. Maybe still learning and thus, less knowledgeable, but still so very smart."
Looking towards his injuries, he said, "A reapplication of herbs on these wounds might be a good idea. It'll give me a bit more energy." If the herbs were aiding the healing, he could channel a bit more energy into movement. He sat down, careful not to put weight on either of his injured legs.
He paused, giving her time to start working with the herbs, as well as trying to phrase his next statement properly, and knowing Jewel could potentially interpret his words the wrong way. Doctor's words were slower, more careful, "This won't necessarily be the most... tact thing I've ever said, but all I ask is that you consider this, and ask questions if you want clarification so you don't misunderstand. From what I have experienced, there are a few fixed actions in time, while the rest aren't. This was one of those points that could change. I could have pushed you out of the way without injury to myself. I may have found the situation too dangerous to endanger myself. Or, I may even have been going the wrong way in my search for you. Anything could have happened. On the other hand, your brother... Robbie. His leaving... may have been one of those fixed points- maybe not necessarily that particular moment that he did, but it might have been inevitable. It's not your fault, it's not his, and it's not your parents'. It doesn't make it any easier, I know, but think about how he behaved with you before leaving- did anything change or not? Maybe this pack didn't align with his ideas as he grew up. Or maybe he found an idea he realized liked better."
He cast to gaze away from Jewel, not wanting to see what he thought he knew would be the epitome of anger, "I do not wish him to be gone from the pack, but every wolf sees the world and their experiences a little differently. While we can temper ourselves to see otherwise, we still have unchangeable core ideas. Those moments that depend on such things are fixed." His eyes were glazed over in thought, remembering someone who fit exactly what he just described. A wolf who used to be his comrade, a wolf who was now his enemy and wanted Doctor out of the picture. The wolf he just had a hunch was within the lands of Fire and Ice, but not this pack.
