"Dammit! Get away from me, you bastards!" The heavy-set tri-colored brute raced across the desert, muscles flexing beneath the hot sun. A trio of buzzards chased after him, their long beaks poking at his skin, through his pelt and into his flesh. He had tried snapping at them and fending them off with his paws, but they were determined to torment him. He really couldn't understand why they were even attacking him, a living wolf for Fenrir's sake! Weren't buzzards scavengers? Tyrone didn't know or care, just that he seriously wanted them off his back. He had been running away from them for too long.
There it was! An oasis! Thank Fenrir! He hadn't seen one since the sandstorm. Tongue lolling freely out of his mouth, he barraged through what bush there was and tumbled into the small pond beneath a grove of palm trees. The buzzards squawked in fright as he rose up from the water, barking and snarling and flashing his fangs and batting his paws at them once more, using the water as his weapons. Their big black wings slapped him in the face and he snatched a mouthful of feathers before finally scaring them off, forcing them to take to the skies and prey on something else.
"That's right!" he barked at them as they flew away, his wide chest out and proud, tail high. "You fly away, you cowards!" It was then that he noticed that he... was not alone. Tyrone turned and his orange eyes locked with a fem... Raven! He stood there, his jaw dropping. He hadn't seen her either since the sandstorm... and suddenly, guilt overwhelmed him for leaving her alone. Although now, she looked like she could take care of herself - lean muscle, a haughty complexion, a thinner coat... like him, she had grown fit for the desert. He had changed little, burning off most of his fat and turning it into burly muscle, becoming quite the strong brujo indeed. "Raven..." he said, his voice in awe, unable to believe he would ever come across her again. "Is... Is that you?"

Her ice-blue eyes sliced into his heart, slashing it like a well-sharpened blade. Raven's voice was calm, but... her eyes betrayed all her angry emotions. Triangular auds pinned back and his tail hung. Water dripped off his long muzzle and fur, not wanting to shake and get her all wet... If he hadn't already, with all the splashing he had done. He sighed, knowing that she would see through any lie he told her. Not that he was really on planning to lie - that would just be stupid, even a brute like him knew that. Though it hurt, he kept eye contact with her. "I was looking for you," he said quietly, hoping his reply wouldn't anger her further. "I tried looking through the sandstorm, but I couldn't find you. And when it was over, I searched all over this desert. I tried following your scent when the buzzards attacked me, and I wound up here by accident. So I guess I just got lucky."
Tyrone half-wondered if she had been looking for him, too. The only reason he had really been looking for her was because beyond the pack that had abandoned him, he... didn't really have any other friends or companions. It was sad, really, but it was the life he lived. He had been hoping she was looking for him... then again, at the same time, he had almost hoped she wasn't. If anything, his arrival was just a chance for her to yell at him and berate him for being an idiot...

"I'm sorry, what was that?" Tyrone said, scratching at his ear with his hind leg. A small minnow fell out of it, splashing back into the pond where it belonged. "Well... Yeah, I missed you and stuff. I mean, you're really the only one out here, so I guess I don't really have a choice but to be stuck with you, huh?" The tri-hued brute cracked a cocky smile at her that probably deserved him a slap, but he moved on, walking out of the pond and shaking the water from his coat. Droplets went flying in all directions (and not surprisingly, probably on Raven herself) and he curled his tail high on his back, as if he were King of the Oasis again. "Now!" he announced. "I don't know about you, but man I am hungry! I haven't eaten for days!"

Tyrone's ears perked up, turning around to face her with his tail giving off a little wag. "You did?" he said, a smile breaking out on his face, and he began salivating. "Oh man, is there any left? I'm so hungry... The last thing I ate was an armadillo, y'know. But an armadillo's about as good as turtle... which if you've never eaten a turtle, is pretty much chicken bones. And if you've never had chicken bones... Um... It'd be like chewing on twigs. In other words, not very good. But I mean I know something doesn't have to be good in order to eat it, but I'd prefer my food to taste good, because otherwise, that's just gross, y'know what I mean?" He wagged his tail again like a stupid pup, and then stopped. She didn't even have to say it, but she wasn't going to share with him. He could see it in her eyes. He sighed and turned away. "Nevermind. I'll find myself something to eat."
The big wolf walked through the bushes, sniffing out any source of meat. Mice, rabbit... anything. He needed to focus on getting them food, but... Something felt so weird inside him. Like he had eaten something that was still alive, and it was squirming and writhing and dancing inside his stomach. "Maybe it's diarrhea..." he murmured to himself, walking along. But he knew it wasn't that. It was something else. It had something to do with why he was running his mouth off to Raven, and why he was so determined to find them food, but he didn't know what it was. Instinct, maybe...? "Hell if I know..."
Tyrone stopped, nose twitching. On one of the palm trees, was a giant, black... spider-looking thing. Instantly, he began salivating again. The tarantula didn't seem to have taken notice of him, so it probably wouldn't be bothered by much. He looked over his shoulder, not sure if Raven was following or not, and he yelled, "Hey Raven! Come over here! I found a giant bug!" While insects weren't the greatest delicacy in the world, it was better than nothing. And he was starving.

Tyrone flicked an ear back. So she didn't want the bug, eh? He snorted. "Well. More for me, I guess." He turned away and set his sights on the tarantula... Oh, how good he imagined it tasting, saliva already dripping from his lips. He crouched down low on the sand, not knowing how well a spider's reflexes or eyes or really anything about how a bug worked, and he crept up behind it, licking his chops. The giant tarantula did not even move. He waited a moment. One... two... three! Tyrone pounced and splayed his talons to catch the spider, opening his jaws wide, but the tarantula scattered up the tree at the last second and he ran smack into the trunk, hitting his head and falling embarrassingly onto his back.
Fantastic. The last thing he needed was to look like a complete oaf in front of some girl he was just trying to impress. Tyrone sighed, lying on his back and closing his eyes. Oh, the shame... [OOC: Sorry about the wait, Fossykins. I've had some really dramatic things happen lately in my life, and they are just now starting to die down...]

The tri-colored brute's brow furrowed. "You callin' me stupid?" he grunted, rolling over onto his stomach, ears perked. His orange eyes were fiery, demanding an answer. He genuinely wanted to know. She was just sitting there - one moment, she would be laughing at him, and the next, it was like he didn't exist. She was confusing the hell out of him. He then stood up, not walking towards her or away from her. All he was doing was trying to impress her. He lowered his head, eyes still locked on. "You think I am, don't you? Well, I'm sorry I'm not the smartest owl in the trees. If you want somebody smart, find another oasis," he snorted, now looking away and glaring at the sand.

Anger bubbled in Tyrone's veins - curse this hot desert, it was making them both crazy. He snorted. "Fine. Walk away. Again. I don't know how to tell you anymore than I already do that I want you in my life. It'd be nice. I enjoy your company. But I'm sorry, because, it just seems like you don't want mine." Hurt reflected in his orange eyes. What would it take to be good enough for her? She wanted somebody strong, smart, handsome... He didn't know if he fit into these required categories. Sure, she had come looking for him. Why, though, bewildered him.
He watched her go out into the desert. Should he bother chasing her? No... He was done with chasing her. If she wanted him, she would come back. The tri-colored brute wandered into the shade, flopping down onto his belly and trying to sleep, even though it was the middle of the day. He was bored. Tired. Angry. "Stupid bitch..." he muttered beneath his breath. These were the reasons why he knew he shouldn't fall in love, or even try to.

| "And there you go again, walking off..." Tyrone grumbled, rolling over onto his side so he wouldn't have to see her rear end walk off into the desert. She wanted to fall in love with dust and buzzards? Well, let her go right ahead. He huffed. He didn't need this kind of tension in his life. Tyrone closed his eyes, inhaling the crisp scent of the oasis instead of the hot emptiness of the desert. This was his home. That's all he needed to care about...-- The sand burned beneath his paws, and the sun glared off the desert like a shining mirror. He kept his head down, walking against the arid winds, relying on his internal clock to guide him. It would do him no use to look up and see the mirage of an oasis or a line of trees or mountains. His tongue lolled out of his mouth. He was so thirsty... How could anyone survive this wretched heat?
A femme's scent caught his nose. The solid black brute turned in her direction, unable to open his eyes, lest he be blinded by the sun. "Excuse me," he called out to her, his head still down. It may not have been the most friendly-looking disposition, but it was the best he had at the moment, his travel made weary by the cruel desert. "But... Do you know where any water is?" He couldn't tell how long she had been there, or if she was dying. He was just glad that he relied on his nose instead of his eyes, or else he probably would have mistaken her for a mirage.

| The dark-hued hessian nodded in response. He didn't mean to pose a threat, but he could tell by the tone of her voice that she thought he was, but she was still willing to help him. How curious. "Thank you," he said in gratitude. "My name is Darrel. If I may ask... Why are you not at the oasis? This heat... It's too fierce for any wolf." If anything, he preferred to travel by night, but his journey was urgent and important. He had to travel both night and day, unfortunately. | |

| Darrel cocked his head, curious. An acquaintance? Strange, there were two wolves nearby. He nodded once more at Raven's words, but before he headed for the oasis, he turned to her again. "I'm sorry to keep bothering you, but I was wondering if you've seen a wolf I'm looking for. He's a tri-colored brute with a bit of a nasty tongue. My pack has sent me to fetch him," he said, glancing at the oasis, nose twitching. Raven was right - there was someone else there, a brute. Hmm... | |

| Darrel snorted. "Dangerous? Hardly. He's more of an idiot than anything else, but you see... He's caused a lot of trouble from the pack he hails from," he replied, tassel flicking impatiently as he watched the oasis with eager, yellow eyes. They slid to the femme's dark and luxurious form, very similar to his own, but female. "You really have no need to worry, Miss Raven. Just allow business to be business, and you shan't be harmed."
Darrel gave her a small bow of respect, and as he turned to head into the oasis, he saw that the brute that had been lying in it had emerged. Tyrone, the tri-colored hessian Darrel had been looking for, had finally made his appearance. Darrel grinned toothily. "Well hello there, brother. So nice to see you again," Darrel said. Tyrone's orange gaze locked with his yellow, and the heavy brujo raised an eyebrow. He continued to approach, so that he stood between him and Raven. "Fuck off, Darrel. The last thing I need is for you to screw up the life I'm trying to make here," he grumbled. All of his annoyances with Raven aside, he knew he'd rather be with her than go back with Darrel.
"You call this a life, Tyrone?" Darrel chuckled, not at all fazed by Tyrone's seriousness. "Come now. You know where you belong. In the pack. Our pack."
Tyrone shook his head. "No. Not anymore. I like being a loner. I can do what I want, whenever I want... And there's no war, either. I'm sick of war, and you know that. So just leave me alone."

| A snarl came to Darrel's lips, curling with impatience. "You're a part of the pack because you made a pact, brother. And it's a pact you can't just run away from because 'you don't feel like it'." Darrel was only slightly smaller than Tyrone, but it was plain to see that beneath his dark coat he had just the same amount of muscle, the same amount of strength. He pushed his face into Tyrone's, which remained as stony as it had ever been. "You think you can run away from all the blood you've shed, the wolves you've killed? Running from your past has never done a wolf any good. You know why? Because whoever you meet, they'll always want to know your story, where you came from. And, well... You can tell them lies..." Darrel began to circle Tyrone, keeping a close watch on him from all angles. Tyrone followed his gaze, not allowing him to see his back. "And sure, they may be gallant fools and believe them, but you'll know the truth. And guess what? I know the truth too. And truth is, Tyrone... You're a killer."
Tyrone was now on edge. His tri-colored fur stood on end, his hackles were raised, and his muscles tense. He didn't let his eyes leave his brother's. "You know nothing about me, Darrel. I'm not a killer. I never was. Sure, I may have been part of the Brotherhood of War, but... but I never harmed anyone innocent. Killers kill everyone, including the innocent."
"So what are you trying to call yourself now, a hero? A vigilante? What, Tyrone, what?"
"I'm trying to tell you that that life is one I no longer live!" Tyrone snapped at Darrel, who jumped back with hardly a look of surprise. "Why did you come to find me anyways, Darrel?"
"I came to tell you that the Brotherhood needs you back, Tyrone," Darrel replied, at which his voice turned sympathetic. "Sweet's no longer with us, he died not long after you left. Miranda's been desperate to be with you again, her heart just isn't in the fight anymore without you as her partner. And Lenzelle... Well, he'll always be the hot-blooded killer we know him as. But we're the fighters of our pack, and without you... We're missing a vital cog in our machine, you understand?"
Tyrone spit a sticky lugie at Darrel's feet. "Yeah, I understand. And you need to understand that no matter what, I'm not coming back... No matter how desperate Miranda is, the bitch. You of all wolves should know how much I hate her."
Darrel remained composed. "Fine then. But, my request for you to come back is still present... The Brotherhood will give you about two weeks, I presume, to return. If not... Well, you know what happens then, don't you?" Darrel smiled wickedly, and strode off into the desert. It was then he was gone, vanishing into the blinding heat and dust. He hadn't even bothered for a drink or rest.
Tyrone closed his eyes, memories blurring in his mind... Memories he didn't want to remember, things he had tried to forget. He flopped down onto his stomach, his paws covering his eyes in grief. He didn't know what to do.
