Games. They were all just playing games, because that's all they knew how to do at this point. Stall her until they could stall no longer, and then what? A fight? She had taken these wolves before, and she could take them again, with her packmates in tow. Corentine was still standing as a silent vigil at her side, just as she should be, unless instructed otherwise. She watched as Vault slunk away with Balthier, confident that the bru could take care of himself. Good. That would remove the leader from the head of the scene. He was annoying, and it was no wonder that these wolves had elected him as their Alpha. Yes, elected, because battling for dominance was too carnal, too dark for them. Sickening. None of them were even of royal blood to which the title belonged to. Regardless, Balthier, and from the look on the other wolves' faces, none of them believed her. How unsurprising. She could spill the details and regale them with the whole story, but they wouldn't listen. They didn't deserve to listen, especially since her own wolves had not heard why this child was so special. But they wouldn't have to see, for time would tell it itself.

The anger resonated through the pack, she could see it; Zelda's cold glare, Link's furious snarl, and Cinder's stubborn defiance. "It's funny how you all want me dead," she chuckled, knowing that she was only adding fuel to the fire. But if they made the first move to attack, they would be in the wrong. "I'm being diplomatic. I don't care about you, or what you do." How she reveled in poking at them. It was a tactic that had always gotten beneath skins, especially Moonlight, their deceased leader of long ago. It brought a ghost of a smile to her black lips. She wanted to say more, ask how they have been, what beasts ravaged their lands and killed their whelps, when a voice downwind made itself known.

Evon turned and listened to her words. Then, a very pleased grin spread on her ivory features. "Yes, everything is all right," she replied, also pleased that at least someone here had formality. "I am Evanescence von Lacrimosa. Me and my packmates here were just making our leave." She looked to where Vault was headed with Balthier, and just before they were too out of earshot, she barked, beckoning him. Whether the rest of the wolves realized it or not, they had a heading now. She stood up straight and tall, prepared to leave, more than likely to the confusion of the rest of them. Good. This path that laid itself out now was much more clever; almost too clever to be created by the wolves before her. Suspicious, but not impossible. At the same time, it was all too perfect, the way that things had revealed themselves.

Cerulean gaze lingered on Eris, curious of where this fem's loyalties lay, but she did not speak of that. She didn't care what news she had, for she had her own business to attend. "Perhaps we will cross paths again," Evon said to her in a clippered voice, one that dangled in the air, almost as an offer or invitation would. But was it what it cloaked itself to be? If Eris truly wanted to know, she would have to make that journey herself. She left it at that, turning to Corentine. "Vault will catch up. Come," she said, having no doubt that the brute would follow. And if he didn't, he could take care of himself. Vault came from a darkness inborn. He had his own vengeances, his own vices, that he could unleash at any moment. That, and there was more he needed to do in these lands... 'Tend their gardens', if he would. Evon smirked as she headed back the way they had came, Corentine alongside her. The terrain in these parts could use some landscaping.

Link's body stood firm at the forefront of the females. His forest green eyes never leaving Evon's ivory form. Compared to her the others she was with were nothing. He desired her lifeblood for vengeance of her personal attack and her betrayal, however he could not be so selfish and put the rest of the pack in danger. His aud flicked back when Cinder spoke of how the child was dead but did not betray emotion otherwise. It would be safer for the pup if Evon thought her dead. At her comment to his mate about caring for whelps a guttural snarl rang forth and surely it made him look all the fiercer, the cruel sound rumbling from his chest. The words she spoke made no sense, no wolf was immortal, of course the she pup could die. Though she was awfully sure of herself and saw through the lie but the pack was not like to give up the deceit. The thought of Evon saving anyone from any such evil almost made him laugh but this was too somber a situation. He was almost surprised when Balthier acquiesced to showing them the remains of the wolves. He felt a growl of disapproval rumbling in his chest, he was not comfortable leaving his packmate with one of them. He tracked their path into the woods trusting in Balthier to handle himself. If they were not back in few degrees of the sun then he would make haste to search him out. For now the Midnight wolves would stand opposite these intruders in a tension charged atmosphere. Zelda's lips were peeled back in a constant state of aggression and disgust but she moved to Cinder's side touching the fem on the neck for comfort. "Do not allow this filth to upset you dear one, on Fenrir's name do not."

And what was this? Another wolf sauntered out from the trees, a gray she wolf whose pace was picking up towards them, another of Evons wolf surely? His anger flared, how many of these wolves did she have in their packland? Was Balthier heading to an ambush even now?

Eyes of green lighter than those of the brute who watched her advance had been peering at the procession through the trees. What was the fem searching for in these lands? She was too cursed far away to hear but it had surprised her when there was no attack, a lot of posturing and snarling yes but no battle. And where were those two brutes headed off into the treeline? A smile played at the corner of her mouth, ah well there was nothing but to get closer now. Gray bodice slunk off into the open field coming from behind the aggressor and her entourage. Her padfalls were sure and her heart lighter than those of Midnight. Surely at least one would recognize her, though perhaps none of Evons party. She could tell by the look on Link's face as she drew closer there was something of recognition because the look of hostility was mostly gone, replaced by something more guarded.

Making a wider arc so not as to come up directly behind Evon she called out her greeting from some yards away. " Lo' brothers and sisters, forgive my intrusion for I have just arrived with some news." She stood somewhat between the two parties yet closer to the Midnight wolves. Eyes lingered on Evon's cruel face, and all she could think of a face that was crueler still than this white lady. "Is everything alright here?" She glanced towards the Midnight wolves and any fool could see the aggression emanating from both parties. A toothy grin flashed on her muzzle despite this. "In the chaos of recent months you may not entirely remember me but I was here with the Jabbar wolves and with Jabbar news I come." Her eyes slowly slid back to Evon in almost a sly way before speaking. "Even now four of my packmates are coming along to speak tidings and talk about our alliance, though it seems you have some unsavory company." Now looking full in Evon's icy blue eyes with her own seemingly clueless ones she frowned. "May I have the pleasure of your name fem? I am called Eris, an envoy of Jabbr if you will." Her gaze held steady and somewhere above a silver winged falcon circled the sky.

Of course. This wolf would naturally see through it. No matter as long as the pack would be fine after this. Luckily, she seemed to follow along, nevertheless, and would allow one of her wolves to look at the remains. Too bad it wasn't her who went, but both followers looked smart enough for a conversation. She spoke a question, one he wasn't sure why she was asking. "Afraid?" he questioned, a touch of puzzlement in his words. He was sure most of the wolves, especially from his pack, would assume he was surprised at the question. Balthier commented casually, seeing the bru approaching on Evon's orders to follow him, "Wouldn't everyone like to know?"

Turning his attention to the male now, though, he said, with a touch of dramatic false importance, "I will assume nothing will break out during my absence. Fran, I trust you will be able to stay the neutral party." He said to Vault, "I assume you've seen the remains of the bandit's party on your way in, to the assassin incident, then." He led the way, undaunted by having a potential enemy behind him. As he walked among the wildlife and were out of earshot of everyone else, he said, "So... are you the talkative or silent type? No need for suspicion unless you're the aggressor. A move on my part would ask for ill upon the pack. My intent is to keep the pack safe. I've no history on the apparent grudge between this pack and your alphess, but... there are some things I must disclose."

He assumed the pack wasn't about to start a fight, and he was a bit worried. Originally, he wanted to send Fran or someone else to do this so he was sure the tensions didn't lash, but that wasn't an option.

OOC: Ill just throw the image in this board once. Less clutter.

And so lyrics went back and forth, the light air in these lands having gained weight with the presence of death. This meeting was becoming an insect, buzzing annoyingly with energy but without much progress. The contact had averted conflict, for now at least, which seemed to be benefitting all.

One femme separated the building silence and claimed that what they had come looking for was gone, deceased. Her frame expressed great emotions, showing pure hatred for Evon. Even as her body was livid with anger, Vault’s impulse did not think her words coincided with truth. She was too…he could not define the wrongness. Dramatic? Detached? Whatever made itself out of place in this wolf, or in this place, it appeared obvious to the white which as well. Their leader glossed over the suspiciousness, laying out the pack’s case calmly, openly allowing the recon team from Lacrimosa to conduct search and seizure. The meadows had been ravaged, tested, tormented for little reason, but there was never sympathy. If anything, Vault felt intensity building: the uncontrollable grumbling and growling deep inside him like an eternal hunger that wanted nothing more than to terminate anything and everything that they stood for.

Evon directed him to ensure that there was nothing resembling what they were looking for, that there was no body of evidence, that there was even less of a reason to believe anything this pack claimed to be true. Vault glanced unblinking and wordlessly, trekking slowly through the quietness towards the pack’s head bru. Though he moved without striking speed or direct malice towards any one wolf, he was surprised they were going to let him get this close to Balthier, this close to the brain of the machine. “Alright…” he said facing Balthier, intending to follow the bru wherever he allowed him to look around. Vault remained wary of the meadow wolves. There was no trust in this environment: Lacrimosa was still invading their territory, and they were still outnumbered. He felt deception. Briefly, he almost wished there would be a body.

More fuel to the fire in the meadow.

There was a silence amongst them as she made her presence known, demanding the location of the Child. That silence when Cinder, weak and pathetic little Cinder, spoke up and said she was dead. Evon's cold eyes were quick to cast to the fem, seeing her frame tremble, her voice bitter. They lingered on her, a mixture of curiousness and anger flickering in her mind, but she let neither get to her when she spoke. "How peculiar," she said. Cinder had been a pawn in so many things that had happened when she had claimed the lands, and she was still here. She had retrieved her mother from Sacrifice Forest with a death threat on her head, and now she was here... almost challenging her with a lie. Almost. It wasn't as if there was trust to be broken between them. "You make for a poor mother, then, if you can't even care for your own whelps," she hissed, leaving it at that, when Balthier spoke.

And with that, Evon couldn't help but snort and roll her eyes. "Please," she said with a curled lip. "Drop it. All of you. You're liars. You know how I know? Because you can't kill her. I can't kill her, even, if I wanted to, but it would be a waste of my time." She paused, and looked over her shoulder at Vault. "Go with them and look at the bodies. I guarantee that you'll find nothing of her. But if they're inviting us to look, we may as well, just to prove what lies they're spreading." Cerulean gaze returned to Balthier. "What are you afraid of?" she asked, ever interested in what made each wolf tick. It was clear to her that fear was not a tactic that could be employed on him; no, he was all business, as her own father had been at times. "Because if you think I'm going to hurt the Child, you don't know how wrong you are. You know why? Because, believe it or not, I saved her from something much more evil."

There was a certain defiance in her eyes, now. She was growing annoyed with these wolves yet again. No matter what her plans, they always seemed to want to throw a wrench into it. They understood nothing. The hair on the back of her neck bristled, but she did not attack. That would be pointless, and cause more problems than solutions, and she needed solutions. "Even if I don't like the lot of you, I can still understand when there's danger on the horizon, and not blunder into it without thought and get my pack killed," she snapped. "So tell me where she is. We'll leave. Give us an answer and escort us out, if you want to. We don't care. Because she is the entire purpose of this friendly little visit." She ended her statement with a wicked, twisted smile, but the anger was still in her tone.

His eyes gave nothing away as he processed what the fem said and Cinder's response. Balthier himself was at Jabbar, or returning from those lands when the pup, and hadn't yet gotten the true story from his brother. Speaking of whom... he dared not turn to glare the younger into silence and hoped the happy go lucky wolf would remain silent for once.

Perhaps it'd have been wiser to imply the pup just wasn't in the lands, but he wasn't going to change a story. He added, "Do you wish to investigate further? You've seen there was a scuffle recently- multiple, in fact." With a weary sigh, he added, "The world finds odd, new ways to kill a wolf. We had a bandit, pup killer, and an assassin. A pup who was alive surely would have been found by now. And having one who seems to have a mission of killing pups in the lands undetected?" He probably didn't need to say anymore. The chance of survival would be nearly zero. Balthier assumed he should be a little more diplomatic, but some of his personality still seeped through. Eventually he'd keep a tighter reign on his tongue... but that was for later... after his blasted leg was fully healed... and his pelt properly cleaned. By now, his injury wasn't noticeable, as it hadn't been that serious.

"I'll accompany you, should you choose to look, to see for yourself your pup is unfortunately no more. I need to see the state of the land for myself anyways. You've probably seen the remains of the bandit incident on your way in. The other two occurrences were by the dens." A bit quieter, he added, "I hadn't yet checked in to see the casualties of that incident. That was the duty of the other healer, but their bodies had been buried not too far away, from what I was informed. By now I'd wager you'd still pick up faint scents." He hadn't personally known the mother or the pups who had been by the dens as personally as Fran. Even then, he didn't think even she had enough time to bond with them. Perhaps his lack of empathy for those dead would rouse suspicion from the fem and the two accompanying her. What he said was true enough, and a quick look would confirm that. If these wolves didn't believe someone from this pack could be so distant, they'd either learn or remain unbelieving. Either way, it wasn't his problem so long as the pack wasn't threatened.

Cece looked around with her concerned eyes watching for anything that came. Near her was the two pups that were left from Riptide's litter, Calx and Pacis. The maiden slowly lowered her haunches to the ground, watching the two. The female whelp's coat stood out greatly, swirling in white and black. Calx was a mixed: brown, gray, black, and white. With a slight yawn, she flicked her ears to the left and right. It had not been too long since that female had killed Bloom, the other pup that would be here, if it wasn't for her. The summer sun blazed on her, yet with a reflective white pelt, it didn't bother her too much. Her light blue orbits quickly looked to the young male that sat near her.

The pup wasn't sure what to think of this. Having left his warm den, now he was in a strange land with other wolves that didn't look familiar. Staying close to the white wolf, he felt that he was closer to her. With large and golden eyes, he looked up to Cece, he tilted his head? "Where did he go? Where's mommy?" His tail gently swayed on the ground, he sat against the grass, imitating the large wolf beside him. Looking over to his sister, he gently grew a small sized smile, before gazing at the white lupa again.

Cecelia heard the questions with worry. Calx was asking what she was afraid of answering. How was she to answer the ones that didn't know anything about it, other than their sister. Slowly, she looked out collecting her thoughts quickly, wondering if Pacis would jump in and wonder also. Slowly, she cleared her throat a bit. "The male that was with us had to go back to his own pack. He will visit us when he gets a chance." The last sentence she wasn't sure about, unknowing where he had located to. The dame returned to the pups, her light blue eyes gazing at them both. "Your mother's name was Riptide. She was a wonderful warrior, like you will be one day. Riptide had got really sick one day, so she had to go up in clouds." Cece looked off, not wanting to scare the children. She remember the foam along Riptide's mouth, the horrid growling. "But don't worry. Your mother is looking down on you from above, protecting you and guiding you," she looked to the sky, smelling the air. Something dark seemed to fill her nose. Cecelia violently looked to the pups. "Both of you, come close to me. Now!" She wasn't sure what the dark smell was from or where it was, but it was there.

The small brute looked up to the female that began to speak. His ears slightly perked. His gold eye tilted his head at visit. He wasn't coming back? Why wasn't he? I mean, he helped the three of them before he left. As the white female mentioned his mother, he returned to look up at her eyes and smile. Cece had said that she was a wonderful warrior. "I wanna be like momma," she spoke as the white female paused before continuing. His tail went from wagging to drooping as the white dame explained that she died. His mother wasn't coming? After she said that his mother was with him, his form perked up greatly, his tail wagging like a banner in the sky. "I'm going to be a warrior like her!" Slowly, his torso lowered to the ground, wanting to wrestle with Pacis. But before he could do anything, a stern voice escaped the tall wolf's mouth. Quickly, he raced over to Cecelia, sitting between her paws. A quiet whimper escaped his vocal cords, waiting for the white wolf to speak again.

The appearance of the white wench made Cinder's blood run cold. This bitch had done nothing but bring ruin to everything she cast her gaze at. Hackles rose and she would suppress a growl in her chest. She was coming back for the child? Why now? Why!!? Her body trembled with the desire to sink her fangs into that she wolf's throat. She was nothing but a plague...a sickness that brought heartache wherever she touched. Cinder moved beside her mate. Her eyes were full of grief...her pups lost to her and now this...she wanted the pup back?

"She is gone Evon." Cinder's voice rang out bitterly. She loved the pup even if she had left her and wouldn't speak of where she was...she needed to protect her still. "Dead...food for crows. Didn't you smell all the blood when you entered are lands?" She asked pulling beside her mate and gathering strength from his touch. She hoped the pack would back her on this lie. 'As well as my other children too..." Grief struck her eyes giving the words a vaild gesture. She was grieving. Her pups were gone...all of them....there were no little ones here of hers now.

The sinister smirk on the white vixen's features grew as the young male at the center of their attention spoke to her, his words quick and to the point. Interesting, that the pack would select someone so youthful to be their leader; she could tell with the way the mute boy, Link, bowed his head in his direction. It would always make her chuckle on the inside to see him, so silent, rendered by her own paw. Oh yes, she was proud of the scars she left on others. She didn't engage Balthier immediately, as he probably would have liked, and instead turned her gaze to Zelda, her words strong, but it was easy to see that the fem's spirit had been broken, somehow. It only made the smirk on Evon's maw continue... Whoever had done battle to these lands in the months before her arrival, had done a good number. "It's good to see you, too, Zelda," Evon sneered in response to the fem's snarl. She relished in upsetting the pure-hearted fem. No, she relished in upsetting the pure-hearted pack.

"But yes..." she crooned, stalling, cerulean gaze heading back for Balthier. She knew that her very presence - as well as her loyal companions' presence - didn't bode well for Midnight. Good. "The pup. Where is she? I trust that you've taken care of her...?" She let her question hang and linger, as a thunderstorm prepares a lightning bolt. She surveyed the wolves again, but did not find the face she was looking for. Were they hiding her? It would be so like them to do that. Think they can protect the Child, when the Child cannot even protect herself. The prophecy of her foretold it. Of course, she didn't reveal this to them. It was none of their business. And, if they didn't feel like answering her, they had more than her teeth and claws to answer to. There was a reason that Corentine and Vault were at her side.

Amidst the chattering of the wolves below a falcon took wing to the heights of the sky. It's silver tipped feathers flashed out curving back into an elegant bow as it dipped and circled overhead. It's sharp eyes took in the gathering before it and loosed a shrill but short call into the air. With a few quick flaps it soared once more into the sky disappearing into the light of the sun before doing a very practiced dive into the forest to disappear amongst the branches.

A gray form sauntered through the trees at a casual pace betraying the inner constitution which held purpose and drive. A wanderer that belonged to multiple packs and multiple identities though only casting one image. The past would stay where it was and the future was rife with possibilities and pathways yet untaken. And no matter what anyone said these pathways were all manners of gray some more pearl than others, some tending to obsidian. And what would a gray wolf do on a gray path? Blend in and fade away until it was all the same on the horizon. There was no intention of fading away in these sure padfalls. Every step and every move had been made carefully to lead down the path of desired choosing. It was odd that in this time and place would choose a meeting but it was finally a chance to see the Ivory fem who amassed power in the lone lands.

The figure drew up at the treeline making sure to stay sheltered by tree and shadow. Green eyes took in the pack as they had the last time. It was clear by their defensive postures that the trio of wolves that spearheaded the group was not welcome there. And of course at the head was the white fem whom rumors floated about like seeds in springtime. It could be no one less thought why she was harassing Midnight she was unsure. The weight settled at the base of lean legs, waiting for just the right moment...

Zelda allowed her proclamation to sink and Balthier was the first to speak and the most obvious question came into play. Who would then lead the wolves of Midnight? Link touched Cinders shoulder before moving over to stand with his sister. They were a small group now, barely a respectful size but it would be folly to advertise such. Links emerald eyes met Balthiers and holding eye contact he slowly dipped his head in a more meaningful way than he had in a long while. It was that simple motion that pledged the brute his respect and loyalty should he pick up the reigns of leadership. Aud flicked and three wolves entered from the woods, three very unwelcome forms headed by Evon. Link's teeth pulled back in a silent snarl immediately rounding to the other side of his sister, putting his back to Balthier. Zelda barely managed to hold her face from cracking in distress upon seeing the ivory witch. The pup that she had left before was gone...run off with Exodus back to Jabbar. Baltheir took initiative and spoke first confronting Evon. Zelda was not sure how much the bru knew about the ruinous relationship Midnight had with this bitch. Link's eyes shone with hatred and his body showed just how ready he was to do battle. Mostly out of fear for his sister and mate did he hold back.

Zelda's got control of her anxiety once more but there was no hiding the grief that pressed into the lines of her body. "You are not welcome here Evanescence. Speak and be gone or better yet turn and run before you are chased out. We will not suffer your traitors blood here." A semblance of confidence leaked into her heart, perhaps it was not her enemies but those of the ones she loved that she could facedown without shaking her core.

Ooc:I mix Link and Zelda's post, lemme know if it confused anyone, I'll color code it.

Balthier looked up as he heard a voice pike up, not belonging to any of the pack. Three wolves, the one who spoke up the assumed leader... the one he recognized. He glanced at the pair on either side of her from his peripheral vision. The bru was intentionally looking at each wolf present. Pointless. The other wouldn't see anything useful in his eyes, nor does it make a good scare tactic. He'd have to gauge the rest of the pack, though, if worst comes to worst. The fem. He had to admit, the green-eyed wolf was good at hiding it, but he noticed her scrutiny.

"And what business is this that you've graced us with your presence? The pup?" He clarified, getting straight to business. The sooner this was over with, probably the sooner they'd leave. Pity they'd have to travel further to get the pup... if they found out where she was. He didn't know, but he had a sneaking suspicion, since Exodus hadn't been around, either.

He would be pleased to note that Vaarak hadn't moved. Whether it was because he was learning, or was too shocked, Balthier just hoped it would last for the next few minutes.

Fran looked at the trio, calm. She wasn't sure what the implications were, but assumed they were ready for, or even wanting to cause a fight. She remained silent, unmoving as Bathier spoke, and waited for a response. With any luck, this wouldn't turn into a confrontation. Maybe she was imagining it, but two of them seemed to want nothing better than to forget formalities in charge into battle.

It was bright, much so compared to the shade she was used to. Corentine had never cared much for bright, sunny places. They were too... falsely cheerful, generally. The change in air, though, made a pleasant change; the smell of flowers, different species of plants. They crossed the border, entering this pure pack's land. There didn't appear to be too many wolves, judging by what her nose could pick up.

They passed a... a body? Odd, but not unheard of. Even a pure pack would turn against the most heinous of crimes. Most would be hesitant to land a killing blow, but it appeared that this one wasn't as timid as others... or a select number of them weren't hesitant. Emerald eyes glittered in excitement, hoping for a fight, but her stride confident that it wouldn't come to that. They would probably remain diplomatic... at first. No need to freak out the wolves here more than necessary, right? It was useless to have the pack so scared they couldn't speak if the objective wasn't in sight.

Vault and herself continued to follow Eavnescence until they reached a gathering of a small number of wolves. They were looking at one wolf, standing in front of them. Had they happened upon a meeting? Just as well. There was no pup around, so one of them had to know what happened. She looked at the male who was the center of attention. Nearby was an even younger wolf who looked like his brother. That would be her target if they didn't... cooperate. Then again, her eyes scanned his body, sharp eyes looking for signs of battle on the male. There appeared to be an almost healed weakness in his leg, judging by the way he still kept some of his weight off it. She had no doubt, though, that he could put his full weight on it if it came to that. There was something... wrong about him. Corentine couldn't pinpoint it, and that was dangerous. She'd keep a close eye on him while keeping a general look out for a threat to Evanescence.

The dissension of elevation was swift, almost unprecedented, as the woodlands became hills, and the hills became meadows ringing with life. Vault felt in himself a ringing as well, not from his mind but from his chest, sharing this phenomenon with the shifting environment; yet, while nature sprung with liveliness, it was more so Vault’s perception of the lands than reality. This place was nothing special, it was no different from any other surrounding valley or field. It was just inhabited by the wolves and not dark and withered like what he was growing accustomed, reminding him of his last mission. The ringing inside Vault was the determination that pounded against his rib cage, held back by chains of connective tissue yet craving to break from its bondage and stampede towards what he had always enjoyed: getting even.

The pace was naturally slowing, he could feel it in his bones. His nares verified in the same instant that they must be close to their destination. He was unsure what to expect, but then again, was he ever sure what would be around the next corner? He maintained his usual mask. Not even his orange eyes, staring blankly under an angry brow, told a story. Some wore this mask to protect themselves. Some, like him, wore the mask to protect more than that.

The body was the giveaway that they had arrived, officially. The bru had slowed to a strong walk by now, his dark brown fur having dried in the direction the winds had morphed it, creating streaks like scars across his form. His was a bit surprised to see a sign of such destitution and chaos like the exposed bones of the dead in place like this, but he would never put it passed them. In his experience, it was the ones who gave the friendliest façade that wanted to kill him the most. Following Evon’s words and moving forth, there was visual of the pack, circled around a possible leader. It was finally show time. Oh how to begin. The dark haunting figure pulled up on the right of Evon, standing at her side as she made themselves known to the group, his muscles building with strength like the audible tension of a tightening cord. He was prepared, if need be, to bound towards the shadows and flank the group from the foliage. It could be three versus many; they had to spread themselves. He wouldn’t hesitate to go at them head on, either, as he now scanned this pack and looked into each of their eyes, into each of their souls.

The wide, rolling meadows were a stark contrast to the thickened woodlands from which the white witch hailed. Here, the air was fresh and flowing, smelling sweet and rosy instead of rich with decay. The spring sun was bright, nearing summer now, and she felt the hairs shed from her winter coat, tufts catching on the growing grasses as she entered the land. She went right over the border, her two companions near, ignoring the various scent markers scattered about. So, this pack still had trouble maintaining a leader? A smirk traced her lips, dark in comparison to the rest of the world around her. Ever since she had arrived back when it was Avithine Lotric, the pure wolves were unable to keep a leader for very long. Last time she had visited, it was a bru named Rodion, but she doubted that he was even here anymore. Of course, Zelda's scent was still around. She would always be here, it seemed. An interesting challenge; amongst all the wolves, Zelda was really the only one to ever oppose her in mind, body, and skill. She posed quite the rivalry.

She paused, putting her nose in the air and then to the ground. It smelled of blood, a few weeks, maybe a month or two. Someone else had struck a battle here. Loping further in, she found a corpse, becoming bone-white in the sun, the crows having picked clean the meat. She wondered who that could have been - Zelda's stupid brother Link, or perhaps his yellow-bellied mate, Cinder. Or, who knew, the pack could have turned on Rodion and this could be him. She glanced over her shoulder at Vault and Corentine. "It appears we aren't their only threat," she said, voice clear and clipped. "But we'll make sure we're their biggest. Come. They're up ahead."

Evanescence approached the circle of wolves, gathered around a young male. She vaguely remembered his face from when she first dropped the Child off, but he looked to be the one speaking. Well, what perfect timing she had. She loudly cleared her throat, seeking to interrupt his speech, blue eyes glinting in the sunlight, spying Zelda's wounded figure. Whatever battle they had had, she clearly wasn't recovered yet. "Oh I do hate to interrupt," she announced with a lie, tassel raising with her voice. "But I believe we have some very important business to discuss, Midnight Meadows."

Balthier looked on as Zelda spoke, his posture never changing, his full attention on the story. A few thoughts dashed through his mind by the time she finished her tale. There were many things he could say, some more appropriate than others, and some words that could wait until a less stressful time. He only briefly mulled over his thoughts, realizing Zelda was probably waiting for a reaction.

He spoke softly, as if unsure of the effect of his words and trying to be cautious, "Don't apologize. You didn't intend for him to come here, and... I can understand some of his motives. Believe me when I say it's not your fault. I didn't know him when he was... nicer, but I know his type. Murderer he may be, but that's only another type of thief. I used to be a... more noble one than the rest, aiming to take the minimum to get by without bodily harming anyone. Just until I was able to find a pack where my brother wouldn't end up like myself," he gave a humorless bark at this, "Then again, a noble wolf wouldn't be a thief in the first place."

"I would respect your choice to step down, but who..." His voice trailed off as he noticed Fran's pointed look, ignoring his brother's unusually silent, and thoughtful expression.

Fran listened to the exchange, wanting to say something to Zelda, but held her tongue. When Balthier finished responding, she gave him an incredulous look that quickly turned into a pointed one, as if in disbelief. She'd have thought he'd understood the result of his actions by now. For all his intelligence, he seemed oblivious to the glaring qualification he had to leadership and he wasn't stepping up. Most wolves would immediately jump at the chance. Former thief or not, the wolf had clearly shown through his past actions where he stood now.

Zelda's eyes flicked from the wolves present, there were so few of them, there was always too few here. The time she had spent by herself she had a lot to think over. The state of her mind and the fragility of it that had come to pass. For years she had been so strong and in just moments she felt her world cave in, felt like a pup lost among the sand. A pang in her heart for Navi went out who was still missing. Her clear azule eyes watched Balthier, felt strength from his words. Looking down on the ground she took a deep breath and stood up stepping closer to the center of the circle. Meeting Balthier's eyes she proceeded to speak very calmly. "It is only fair that I tell you my story. My story before I came here, when I was a young wolfess from different lands." Taking a breath she continued. "When I was young my pack was small, the parents had passed away and Link had gone off to see the world." A low whine came from Link's mouth as he watched his sister avidly, anxiety twitching though his form. Zelda shot him a soft smile to reassure him but continued speaking. "It was before that though that I had been courted by a male, a male named Ganon from a nearby mountain pack. Around the time I had little family around we had become more involved but things quickly changed. He became brutal, abusive he became a....a murderer." Here she looked down before looking once more at Balthier. "By the time Link returned and saved me I was half mad and he had murdered three litters of my pups." A slight shudder ran through her body but she promised herself she would be strong for this.

"I am sorry of the pain and fear that my past brought to this pack and my thankfulness to everyone who helped drive him...it away is endless. I love this pack with all my heart, I have helped lead it through some rough times and it makes it much harder to let it go." Tail lashing she shuffled her paws anxiously. Link was alert watching his sister keenly, his throat tight with protective emotion. "I can not lead this pack, I am not strong enough any longer. In time perhaps I will recover something of what I could be but I think some things can never be mended." Her ears flicked and she let out a sigh and stepped back to her spot waiting for the reaction.

((I get the feeling that lots of the wolves here were played by people who currently haven't been online recently...))

Fran looked at the company she was with, an gestured her head, silently suggesting they heed the call. Without another glance, she silently made her way over, wondering if Balthier knew what he was doing. A twinkle of amusement came to her eyes, realizing he had no idea his life had changed the moment he got himself involved with Zelda and Link's old rival. For better or for worse, Balthier would be interesting to watch once it dawned on him. For now, though, she came to a stop near Zelda, and questioned, "How are you faring?"

Vaarak's tail twitched every so often, anxious for whatever this was to be done with. He was about to voice his impatience when Zelda, Link, Cinder, and Fran appeared. Refraining for rolling his eyes, he sat as quietly as he could.

His eyes slightly narrowed at the lack of response. It seemed like many of the more recent arrivals had vanished suddenly, as if scared for their pups' lives, judging by the recent happenings. Not that he could blame them for leaving. He tilted his head, watching Zelda as she looked towards her brother. He understood and didn't at the same time. And now it seemed like the few gathered were waiting on him... Balthier blinked, and thought for a moment. Yes, he'd called them, but...

He brought his body into a more upright position and said, "Because of recent events that happened around the same time and that we've had some time to ourselves, there may be some things we must and some things others of us need to talk about. First, to get everyone on the same page. Feel free to add any important happenings to what I know. When I came back from Jabbar, There was an... intruder Fran encountered who infiltrated the den site when she was busy fighting another, unrelated wolf." He paused, seeing Fran nod once in agreement.

"This may explain the disappearance of some of the mothers who'd come here quite recently. Then during the end of this was the last event I'm aware of." He glanced at Zelda, unsure if it'd be tactless to mention Ganon's name. She had freaked and bolted when he was fighting, and he didn't want to inadvertently cause her a flashback... especially since he hadn't spoken quite like a noble wolf. He wasn't sure of her response to him an didn't want to push anything.

"We need to work as a pack again, which includes helping each other through large issues- especially with our current small numbers. If that means clearing any tensions, confessions, questioning, or just planning how to secure the lands, so be it, as long as we're willing and not pushing each other for answers. I'm willing to answer some questions, considering I acted differently during that last incident from what you've known from me." He didn't remember what he'd said before and during the fight with Ganon, but even if he did, he wouldn't know if anything he'd said was bad. Good and bad were blurred together to grey in his mind. That was why he kept his brother away from that, who had a grasp on what was good and not.

This open talking time would give Zelda an opportunity for her thoughts. She had to have had some, running off on her own. It was up to her to take that opportunity or not, though. He thought about Link and Cinder. They had too few wolves to look for Navi. The only wolf who could probably be considered free was Vaarak, who Balthier was not going to let loose on his own. He could also pass his healing duties to Fran and go himself... Vaarak wouldn't have anything to comment.

Zelda had sat in solace alone for some time trying to piece her life back together. Her past had come back to find her and in the end she could not deal with it properly. There was so much buried in her past, brutalities that she would never be able to forget. Tiny screams that would always sit in her heart. She had been weak with her pack and failed them. So when the call came, she knew someone would eventually she stood up, shook the dust from her pelt and moved to face them. Her brother...she hoped her brother would forgive her. He would die for her and almost had time and time again and she could not bear that to happen. He had to live on to be with Cinder, to find Navi and to have pups of their own. She would not let anyone die on her account. She appeared in front of Balthier minutes later. Sorrow in her eyes and heart. She was not fit to lead this pack, she could no longer shoulder this burden. She owed him her life and maybe more than that. Eyes trailed over to Link who came next, gently nudging his mate with physical assurances. Seeing her his face lit up and he walked over and rubbed his face against her neck. She almost broke down there but contained herself. She would limit her emotional fragility as much as possible. Tail wrapped around her base, she waited for the rest of the pack and to see what Balthier had to say.

He heard footsteps suddenly peel off and glanced behind him. As he'd guessed, Sight was moving elsewhere, outside the lands. Why, he didn't know, but as long as she didn't change her course back into the lands any time soon. She'd been silent about it, too, which touched his suspicions.

Returning to his destination, he saw Vaarak impatiently waiting, seemingly half sitting, half standing. Rolling his eyes, he tilted his head skywards and let out a howl, calling them to Cyrus Dens. There'd been an attack here recently, and they had to know this and see the aftermath. Had the mothers who'd been here vanished, deeming the pack unsafe for their children, or also dead? He leaned to one side, testing how much weight he could comfortably put on his leg. An amused eye watched his brother sit back down properly, apparently having resigned himself to his fate of remaining for a while.

Her mitts carried her after Balthier, a playful smirk still dancing across her maw. It must be hereditary, the stretch of kissers was something she recalled vividly of her siblings. Sincerity was a rarity with her family, and apparently they wore it with pride. A dark playful smirk could hold many things, it was subtle enough to be considered harmless, but if one looked close enough they could see the impure thoughts dancing in the eyes of the holder. His words jutted into the brief silence that carried between them, but it was the light breeze that stole her attention. Something was pulling, nagging at her quarters to move along. Not much unlike her brother, Sight was curious of these pulls. They typically carried with them an opportunity for entertainment. Perhaps it was nothing, but her intuition was high. There were matters to attend to, matters of more importance than playing with these wolves. The white wench's pace slowed, pawlengths stretching between her and Balthier. She would return, and bring havoc to the pack, in due time. For now, instinct pulled her away. Mitts continued to slow till they shifted northward, it didn't matter if the bruja heard. Within moments her white frame was gone from his presence, slipping away into whatever play was abound.

Balthier hummed, neither in agreement or disagreement at Sight's speculation of duties. And there is was. He didn't respond when she stepped into his personal space and then some, suffocating any wistful memories of his past in favor for the present. Blatant actions never had been his style. An old blindness-causing injury would have been adjusted for naturally. Intentional or not, it reminded him to not be a rouge.

As he turned to walk towards the dens where he left his brother, trusting to be followed. "I actually am a bit busy, but my brother can give you that tour and answer most questions you might have. He'd probably be less boring than I at the moment." As much as he was wary to leave her alone with his little brother, it might not be a bad idea.

Vaarak was waiting as patiently as he could. No one came by, and his brother seemed to have been gone for ages, although it'd only been a few minutes. Balthier couldn't expect him to just not do anything, could he? Ears perks up as he started to catch the first signs of his return.

And here she thought there would be more of a challenge! Pity, really. Not but a few times had her eyes made others waver. Perhaps it was the acting, that hessians were so easily swayed. This could prove to be quite entertaining! The alabaster fae smiled sweetly, being corrected was irritating but she showed nothing. "Out doing duties I suppose." Sight spoke lightly, speculatively. She moved closer, there was an acceptance that allowed the barrier to be crossed. Finding herself briefly along side Balthier, she subtle brushed his side with hers. "How about showing a lady around, Balthier?" Sight continued forward past him, ignoring her actions as if they had been unintentional. "That is, unless you have more pressing matters?" Sight turned to gaze back, the act but a whisper. Red light returned to the land, flicking over everything within visible distance. Sight didn't have a plan, she sought only a good time. But what entertainment could come of a pure pack, blood wasn't something she wanted painting her coat. Perhaps, just a moment of shadiness. An act that could lead to suspicion. That would be enough to warrant questions, sow a small seed of distrust. Then, her flow would carry back to the mountains. There was a familiar and intoxicating feeling coming from such a treacherous territory, perhaps she could pry information of the pack from these light hearted fools.

He maintained his current features, replying easily and with a laugh at the end, "Considering you came from the lone lands, and your... deformities, as you call them, are quite old, I'd guess you've been able to fend off wolves much formidable than I. I fear you'll be the one protecting us." More serious, he continued, "Then again... it's not a deformity if you weren't born with them. Well, Sight, you're welcome here as long as you wish to. I'd introduce you to the others, but they're.... scattered right now in the lands. Perhaps we'll properly introduce you a bit later."

Balthier was tempted to play, the familiarity of encountering wolves and harmlessly flirt only to sneak away when they weren't looking. He never allowed anything to happen except for him crushing some hopeful hearts after he'd gone. But he couldn't and didn't want to now. Past of his past had already resurfaced. He didn't need any more of it while he was trying to rid himself of it all...

It was a hard thing to miss, which was just another useful tool for the woman. In the same way that her sway could allure those simple minded hessians, her lanterns could distract those who were caught off guard by the abnormality. Hidden beneath the milky white of blindness, an amber hue was distinguished only upon close inspection, the only useful eye was nothing but red though. Sight left her demeanor passive, the air about the place did not hold the same harshness as did the mountains she had crossed. A healer stood before her, the inspecting eye was subtle but she noted any that gave her hues a look over. Lifting her ivory frame from the terra below, Sight stepped forward slightly. "A pleasure, Balthier." There was a velvet silkiness to her lyrics, and her lanterns danced about the hessian before her.

"Oh, nothing more than any other traveling fae. A place to stay, camaraderie, and a strong drake to look after such a frail creature such as myself." A lick of innocence slipped among the silk, but her words would be enough to warrant curiosity, if not concern. It wouldn't be any fun to speak the same as others who wished to find sanctuary, that just wouldn't fit for her. The flirtation as prevalent, but her demeanor showed nothing but gentleness. No threat would come from her, that just wouldn't be conducive to playing with these lighter hearted wolves. "I share a name with my deformities, however lamely ironic it may be. Please call me Sight, and allow me to find refuge here?" The tone was more formal, more appropriate for the situation at paw.

He lifted his head at the howl, and looked back at his brother, who seemed to have finished. Nodding his head, he said, "Stay here. If anyone comes by, keep them here. I'll attend to the newcomer. The pack needs to organize and we're too scattered. We'll suggest a hunt, minus any pups and mothers later." Sharp eyes hovered over Vaarak a moment longer. The last thing he needed was his brother wandering off right now and inadvertently causing trouble. "As her healer abilities are more developed, defer to Fran if need be." He turned and left, tail gracefully flowing in his wake, heading north to the border, shaking his pelt to smooth out any tangles.

It was a few minutes later at which Balthier stopped facing the fae. He peered at her features, strictly from a healer's stand point. Blindness wasn't uncommon, although his own light grey eyes caught the signs of an inflicted blindness. There were always markings that untrained eyes may not catch, even if there were no scars around the orbit. The other... he guessed it to have happened around the same time as the other eye.

While he'd been looking, he said at the same time, "Welcome to Midnight Meadows. I'm Balthier, a healer amongst other things. What brings you to these lands?"

The wench, it was the only appropriate title for such a fae, slinked through the terra's of others. Her ivory form could not hide in the fall colours, and her silence was met with an occasional crunch from the leaves and twigs beneath her. This was a trying time to hunt prey, thankfully her goals were outside of her stomach. Despite these somewhat irritating circumstances, Sight found herself moving fluidly through the land. She had come to the lands of Fire and Ice for nothing more than her brother, that dear old bru who murdered her family. Well, most of her family. Vengeful Beauty still remained, and that fae would not leave Tartarus if it meant her life. Sight saw otherwise, and opportunity to reunite with the only wolf who understood her madness. His extent was much greater, but chaos was what still ruled both their hearts. Mischief and chaos. Unfortunately for him, he did not possess the right...attributes for being playful. Sight was a notorious minx, any fae worth her dime should use her frame against others. Especially such dull witted hessians that seemed to flood the world, who could be trained so simply to sit and beg. A bloody smirk crossed her kisser, a recent kill still on her canines.

So far the plan had been fruitless, there had been wolf scents abound in every corner she went. But none had matched that familiarity, that essence of defiance to the norm. It would be long before she came across family, that much was certain with their litter. No matter, surely there was fun to be had elsewhere. There had been a sound of thundering crushes upon her entry to the lands of FnI, and an air of disorder plagued what she assumed to be a pack. It was a wonder why she hadn't sought them out, nor lingered for a while to watch the mess. It had been a pressing matter to return to the presence of her brother, but now it seemed there was much more entertainment to be had on her own. The coastal air filled her lungs, and for a moment Sight stood beside along side a mountain and enjoyed that crisp air. The mountain crossing had been harrowing, and there was an air of menace about the land. More scent markers told her what she needed to know, another packland that she had crossed, one that intrigued her deeply. Alas, she left those rocky mountain sides, and found herself amongst the plains.

So far, the white wench had skirted the lands of a pack, here she faced them. It was a first, and now there was some fun to be had. Sight nestled herself down among the plains, nares flaring at the scent marker that told her everything. Well, it couldn't hurt to peer into the lives of others. The white coat shook slightly, as if she rid herself of morning dew that was not there. A slow, deliberate, and melodic call rang from her maw. A siren song to any who wished to know that there was a wolf on their border. It died just as slow as it had started, and Sight lowered her crania and opened her eyes. What a sight to beheld. An ivory fae, with two toned eyes. One white with the blindness that affected it, the other red with blood that had filled the cavities. It was in no thanks to her father that these visible scars pronounced themselves so vividly. This attack had led her to help Zaiaku slaughter the King of Tartarus, simply by turning that blind eye to the kill.
