The lost treck of Kiaki Red_ti12

Her paws padded the soft ground as she walked in a direction that lead to an unknown destination. Kiaki's fur shivered in the breeze and her head was bowed as she walked. The land was bare and resources scarce. Her stomach gave an unpleasant growl and longed for food, but as Kiaki twisted her head to look around, there was not much to sustain her. However, this didn't bother her too much, as she had grown used to the independent life. After her mother's death and her father's disappearance, she was forced to tread outside of her boundaries and venture into the unknown. The horizon never neared, so this land, empty though it was, was not a form of abyss, but Kiaki was yet to cross paths with another animal of her nature. Small voles and snakes waited in the shadows, and the occasional screech of a hunting bird could be heard from overhead. Fear failed to penetrate her, yet her lonliness forever grew.

A petrified tree stood just yards ahead and Kiaki approached it, lifting her front paw to scratch at its mineralized exterior. Flakes of debris shedding from the trunk as her claws did harm, but no water had been present in that tree for a very long time. Kiaki dug around the roots, hoping to find some source of liquid to quench her thirst. It had been too long since she had passed by an oasis or stream, and her tongue was dry from her panting and her teeth grew numb in the dry air. She whimpered for the first time in days, a light squeak issued from her dry lips. her tongue reached up to wet her nose and felt pain as it cracked from her touch. She needed to find water, and fast. But appart from nourishment, she longed to find company.

The lost treck of Kiaki Bhaalfinished

Bhaal had risen up. A large wave of dust and sand rolled of his black pelt. It was his favourite hiding technique. He lifted his body from the shallow den he had dug to sleep through the night. The last months most of his fur had fall of in packs, as it was adapting towards the hot climate. Bhaal didn't cared for the heat though. It where the chilly nights he hated. They reminded him too much of home. Home and an dark past. Then he smelled something familiar. Over the stench of the dead hare he had been eating, he could almost taste the familair tang of an other wolf.

He turned. Indeed, if he looked very closely, he could judt make out a dot on the horizon. He was overjoyed, it had been weeks since he had last seen another of his species. Poor Ichmael... He had tasted nice by the way. He stretched his back, shook off the last of the dust and sand and started walking towards the distant spot. To herald his coming, he let out a deep, mournfull howl, one that chilled to the bone.

The lost treck of Kiaki Red_ti10

(Ooc: MEEP! Kiaki can't be in two places at once! I forgot about this post and also posted in Hamara! Wait wait... I can fix this...)

A howl struck out through the air like an arrow and Kiaki stopped in her tracks. A moving silhouette shimmered in the heat waves and the scent of another wolf struck her nose. Shivers danced up and down her spine causing her fur to stand on end as though in fright. She dared not to move further, and again, she whimpered.

Although fear struck her for the first time in a while, Kiaki panted with excitement. It had been so long since coming across another canid, and another of her kind was just what she needed. Although introverted, Kiaki was sociable, and being away from her family drove her to near tears. Perhaps this wolf could offer her something. Perhaps it knew where to find water, shelter, or a meal. Yet Kiaki remained cautious. She had not eaten in quite some time and was in no position to fight.

The lost treck of Kiaki Bhaalfinished

Bhaal closed in on ,from his view, appeared to be a small femme. Company. It had been long since he had seen someoen else. Not soo long, but long enough to get a little alone. The femme didn't seem to be moving towards him, but she also didn't fled. He licked his lips. They where dry. Soon he would have to go for water. Luckily he knew of an small oasis not very far from here.

He aproached with his tongue out of his mouth, ears turned forward. He didn't wanted to scare her off. She appeared to be quite young: four, maximum five years. His dark eyes searched of her body, looking to any signs where she could be from, why she was here.
"Good day to you, are you lost or something?" He said with a dark, booming voice.

The lost treck of Kiaki Red_ti10

As the wolf approached, she saw and that he was male. His black pelt shined in the blazing sun, and there were spots of sand and grit in his fir. His tongue looked dry, which reminded Kiaki of her thirst and she licked her nose. Once he spoke with a deep voice, she relaxed a little, noticing his stance and knew that he wasn't looking for a fight, and didn't appear to be much of a threat.

She shifted her weight from her right paws to her left and bowed her head, keeping her eyes focused on his. "Yes" she said, her voice barely above a whisper. Although she felt incredibly shy, she didn't want to appear too weak. Her tail did not fall and she did not remove her focus from his face. "Who are you?"

The lost treck of Kiaki Bhaalfinished

"You can call me Bhaal. What's your name? You look a bit thirsty. I know an oasis not so far from here. I was going to there already, so you can join if you want." Water. One of the most simple but needed thing in a creature's life. Bhaal knew where the water was, he had been living already for months in this desert. He sat down waiting for her answer. She looked a bit thin. But that could be him.

He yawned. He was still a bit drowsy from his sleep. Why was she actually traveling at the day. It was far better to travel in the cool night. He sighed.
In the begin he had done the same. But he had learned his lessons. Like, to never screw with a poisonous snake, he had been ill for three days. And snakes don't taste nice, so they aren't worth the bothering. What did taste nice where pigs. But they where also dangerous. It had been three weeks
ago and still he could feel the scar from that boar.

Was it him, or was she a bit nervous?

The lost treck of Kiaki Red_ti10

Kiaki raised her head and her tail twitched. Water! After weeks of traveling alone, and not finding food or drink as often as she would have liked, her luck was definitely improving. She had attempted lone hunts, and had once crossed by a young deer at the edge of the Lone Lands, but she couldn't hunt alone. She had come so close to tasting it's salty meat, but alas, smaller animals were her main source of protein, and her taste buds grew tired of the repeated flesh.

"Bhaal." She stated aloud, committing his name to memory. "I'm Kiaki, and indeed, I'm incredibly thirsty. Thank you for your offer" Her head twitched in a small bow that may not have been very noticeable. Still feeling slightly nervous, she stood up straighter, feeling a lot more relaxed next to Bhaal.

The lost treck of Kiaki Bhaalfinished

Upon hearing her answer, Bhaal turned and started walking towards where he knew there was water. "You can follow then."
Kiaki. Strange name. He never heard it. Not that he had known that many wolves. He sniffed several times, but couldn't make out the scent of prey.
Not that he was really hungry, he had eaten several hours before.

When he looked forwards again, he could see the reflection of the water. He increased his pace, and soon arrived at the water. He bent forwards, and started to quench his thirst. His hunger would have to wait.

The lost treck of Kiaki Red_ti10

Kiaki followed Bhaai across the Lone Lands, her steps sightly out of synch with his. The sun was hot on the earth and Kiaki found herself lifting her paws higher as they heated her pads. Perhaps it was a better ideas to travel at night, but perhaps it would take her longer to find food or shelter that way, and she was unsure of these dry lands ever drawing to an end. But although to her eyes, every aspect of this place seemed unnervingly repetitive, Bhaal appeared to have a much better sense of direction than Kiaki, and knew where to guide his paws towards resources. Kiaki, on the other hand, let her paws guide her, and she knew that she was very lost indeed. Her heart thudded stronger in her chest at the thought that Bhaal might just have saved her life, but not knowing how vast this barren land was, she was unsure whether her thoughts played tricks of exaggeration on her.

The two wolves continued to walk in silence until the sunlight danced across a thin sheet of glass, the reflection startling Kiaki and she bowed her head to shield her blinking eyes. Bhaal's steps had increased speed, and Kiaki could feel a jolt of excitement as she matched his pace. Water! The cool ripples danced in the light breeze, and Kiaki lowered her head to the water, letting her muzzle dip right below the surface for a moment, allowing the cool liquid to rush over her face. She began to lap up the water greedily. "Thank you!" She spoke, happiness shining through her as she drank her fill.

The lost treck of Kiaki Bhaalfinished

Bhaal rised his head from the water. Kiaki thanked him. Thanked him? He just brought her towards water. Maybe she had been very thirsty. Bhaal sat down and straightened himself. "How did you got lost out here?" he asked her. Getting lost.

He had been lost, many years ago, when he first arrived here, wounded and hungry. He had been an murderous killer. Until, after several weeks, he had attacked everything on sight. Then, he relented, as his build-up anger and frustration faded. His vision had beacme clear again, and the world had looked so much better.

But that was years ago, all what mattered now was his survival. He deeply inhaled, but could still not make out any prey's scent. And he was getting hungry...

Kiaki turned her head to look around at her bleak surroundings. "I had to escape." I told Bhaal. I looked at him, wonderin how much to say. "It was a long time ago. I barely remember it. I'm not even too sure of the details." Her response was vague, but then again, so were her memories of her past before her independent treck.

Her stomach gave a tiny growl of hunger and she shifted her weight to cover her weakness of hungry. She turned her head to sniff at the air subtly, but they only scent was of Bhaal.

Bhaal smirked, her story reminding him of his own past. But enough of the past for now, it was time to hunt. "We should go look out for food now, but it's getting to hot, so I suppose we better take shelter until tonight." He walked over to some scrubbs and swept them aside with his paws, uncovering a narrow but deep passage. "It leads to a quite big den in the cool earth, I made it myself" he said, a bit proud. "If you want you can stay here, I will go fetch a dead hare I hid yesterday."

Then he turned and started running towards the point he had came from. With every stride quickening his pace, it would soon be hot, and then he wanted to be inside the cool den. He had made many like-wise dens, but this particular one he was fond off. Sometime, ground-water ran in, so you even didn't had to leave the den. The inside however, was covered with gnawed off bones and dust. Bhaal wasn't much of a cleaner. He thought Kiaki wouldn't mind.

(Ooc: yes, he is quite impulsive.)

The lost treck of Kiaki Red_ti10

As Bhaal ran off, Kiaki stood watching his form grow ever smaller for a while, before turning towards the direction of the den. She sniffed around the entrance, taking in Bhaal's scent before squeezing herself through the hole. The passage was longer than she had expected, and soon the sun failed to follow her down the curved path. Her head appeared in the mass space of the den, and damp, cool air filled her nose. She smiled to herself and fully entered to den. She stood for a moment, letting her eyes adjust to the semi-darkness, before turning her head around to gaze at her new surroundings. Bhaal had really done well for himself. This was quite pleasant and useful, and the fact that he had hidden food nearby... Kiaki had a lot to learn.

Debris and old bones littered the ground, and Kiaki shook her head grinning. 'Men' she smiled and cleared a small space with her muzzle and paws. One the ground had a suitable clear space, she settled herself down and waited for Bhaal. He was a nice being to her, and she was incredibly thankful for his aid, but Kiaki had the strange feeling that there was more to his character, hidden behind his thick pelt.

The lost treck of Kiaki Bhaalfinished

As Bhaal approached the place where he had hidden the rest of the dead hare he had killed yesterday. He started dig where he had marked there lied something, and quickly pukked out the carcass from the hole. Then he turned and started running back towards the den. Upon approaching at the den, he first quenched his thirst at the pool.

Then he took the carcass back in his mouth, and slipped in the den.

He made his way through the narrow tunnel, and noted it was in need of repair, he almost didn't fit trough. The sand and wind had eroded the narrow passageway, and he would have to dig it out. Finnaly he entered the den itself. Kiaki already lied at the ground, and she had made herself comfortable. He dropped the hare in front of her, and then made himself a place and lied down. He was hungry, but he could hold out until tonight.
Then he turned at Kiaki to see her reaction.

The lost treck of Kiaki Red_ti10

Kiaki smiled to herself when Bhaal returned, and seeing the hare, she felt excitement. Although it was no elk or deer, this meal was pretty perfect, considering the little amount she had eaten recently. But almost as happy as she was to see the meat, she was elated at the return of Bhaal. She loved the company, and being alone for so long had not been a pleasant period. Although she was slightly timid, Kiaki thrived on sociability, whether it was a pleasant conversation, or even just being in the presence of another wolf. But her loneliness had forced her to grow from being a pup, and it had been so long since she had truly played, she no longer felt the thrill of it.

Kiaki looked down at the hare's carcass lying at her paws, then to Bhaal settling himself down. "Are you not hungry?" She asked, tilting her head to the side. A hare was a small animal, not enough to sustain one wolf, let alone share, but Kiaki felt slight guilt eating in front of another, when he looked so hungry.

"I am not that hungry, I geuss i'll just wait." That was a lie, inside his stomach and brains were protesting. What was he doing? It was not normal what he was doing, worse it made no sense. He just would eat the hare himself, if it wasn't for Kiali, she looked like she needed it more. Besides, he had survived worse.

"Just go ahead." Then he lied down and laid his head to rest on his paws. It was still long before nightfall, the tile for hunting still far away. He yawned, he could take this time to sleep a bit, and get refreshed. He didn't told it to Kiaki, but on his way back, he thought he had seen mule deer.
He could already taste their fresh, juicy, salty and tasty meat.

He couldn't wait for tonight.

The lost treck of Kiaki Red_ti10

Kiaki tilted her head again, then bent low to the hare and sniffed it. It's salty meat made her mouth water and she licked her nose again. Her stomach jumped excitedly, as if it knew it would no longer face starvation. Kiaki ripped the fur and flesh off the hare's small body, exposing the meat below. It smelled wonderful, and although it wasn't game, it was a meal. She began to eat, blood pouring out of the hare and Kiaki greedily fed, and her feeling of thanks towards Bhaal was immeasurable. She had company, food, water, and shelter. This is exactly what she wanted.

Only a small portion of the hare remained, and Kiaki stared down at it for a while, nudging with her paw. Finally coming to a decision, she picked the remains of the hare up with her jaws and carried it over to Bhaal, laying it beside him before returning to her spot and laying down once more, resting her head on her crossed paws.

Bhaal opened his eyes when he hearded a little thud next to him. Kiaki had brought him some left-overs from the hare. He didn't needed to get invited twice, and quickly he snapped to it, teared of the meat and gnawing the bones completly clean, before breaking the and suck the marrow out.
He felt a bit more satisfied than before, and although he wasn't filled, he could last a little longer.

He then ushered "Thank you." towards her, before closing his eyes again and being carried into a deep dreamless sleep. He hoped he would awake as soon it was night.

Kiaki nodded and smiled at him before he closed him eyes, then she too, closed hers.

Her eyes opened again. She was exhausted, but sleep wouldn't come. She needed her energy for later, that she knew well, but her mind refused to shut off. She looked over at Bhaal, his steady breathing raising and lowering his back as he slept. At he he appeared to be asleep, Kiaki wasn't sure. She dared not to move or make a sound in case she disturbed him. Her eyes continued to roam the den, finding knew forms of strange collectables from fur to bones. Perhaps they were here for a reason. As the wind blew outside, debris slid down the passage of the den, dirt and sand following. Kiaki's heart sunk at the thought of being caved in, but it would take a few hours of heavy wind to completely seal the exit.

Kiaki stared at the shadows of the tunnel growing darker and darker as the sun set, and at long last, her eyes slid closed as sleep rested upon her.

When Bhaal opened his eyes, it was almost completly dark in the cave. His eyes took a few moments to adapt, but then he could see clear again. Kiaki appeared to be still sleeping, so Bhaal walked towards her, and gently rubbed his paw against her face. "Come on, wake up, it's time to go hunting." Not waiting for her reaction, he started digging his way outside, slightly expanding the broad side off the hall, so he could fit through.

when he came outside, the cool night welcomed him. He directly walked towards the water and started to drink, preparing for the hunt ahead. He straightened up, and relaxed and spanned his muscels, as if testing them. Then he turned his head towards the entrance of the den, in the hope to see Kiaki coming outside.

Kiaki felt pressure on her muzzle and heard Bhaal's voice. She blinked sleepily, adjusting her eyes and rubbing them with her paw. She slowly sat up and stretched, yawning widely showing an array of teeth, but once her eyes were fully open, Bhaal had already exited. 'Someone's eager.' She thought to herself before shaking off the dust from the floor and scrambling up the small tunnel.

The night was dark and the stars blinked lazily above as the hazy clouds drifted. She caught sight of Bhaal by the oasis and walked up to him, lowering her head to the water and drinking her fill, her eyes darting from the glassy water, reflecting the grey moon, to Bhaal beside her.

The lost treck of Kiaki Bhaalfinished

Bhaal returned her glance, and felt a little... funny. He quickly pressed back that feeling, he wanted to stay sharp for the killing ahead. "I think I had seen some mule deer over at another drinking place, if were lucky, we might even catch one." He said to her. He bent back forward for a last gulp of water, and then turned back towards Kiaki. She was way smaller than him, and he didn't knew if she was a good hunter.

He was already devising a plan, however, to get their paws on delicious deer meat. They could sneak on them from two directions, and Kiaki could drive one if them to Bhaal, who then could go for it's throat. The mere thought of making a proper kill again, was almost good enough to make him salivate. He would kill tonight. Kill.

The lost treck of Kiaki Red_ti10

As they made eye-contact, Kiaki quickly turned away. Why? Why did she turn away? So she turned back to face him and raised her head. "I'm game!" She said, excited for the hunt. However, she felt slightly ashamed that she hadn't noticed these other sources of water as she was walking alone. She must have strayed very far towards the centre of the lands in order to miss them.

She stretched again and padded her paws against the ground, warming up for an intense run. She smiled eagerly at Bhaal and her stomach flipped at the thought of finally being fully sustained "So what's the plan, boss?" That sleep had done her good.

The lost treck of Kiaki Bhaalfinished

"IF they are still at the pool, what I find higly possible, then we best approach them from two directions, and one drives them up to the other." Bhaal grinned. He hadn't had much expirience with hunting in group, so this was new for him too. "Question is, who will drive them up and who will... catch?"

He flicked an ear, as suddenly he could hear a deer's bray sound over them. That meant one was close. And in trouble. Good. "Change off plans, quick." Then he stormed away, into the night, headed towards the sound. He could taste the mettalic tnag of blood in the air, and he almost shivvered with yoy.

The lost treck of Kiaki Red_ti10

Kiaki listened to Bhaal's words, then a bray rang out and she turned her head sharply. Bhaal had run off in the direction of the interruption, and Kiaki sprinted after him. "Change of plan?" She asked from behind him, wondering how they were to catch the deer. Two wolves charging in the same direction? It was sure to scare the prey. Kiaki Ran further left of Bhaal in case she needed to cause a diversion and steer the deer towards the strong jaws of its predator. The deer's scent was strong in the air, and she knew they were close. Excitement filled her and she sprinted faster, enjoying the night air blowing over her fur and she lowered her head, flattening her ears.

(Wind resistance. Kiaki is now a sports car)
