,Wishing on a Shooting Star, :MB: - Page 5 Rodion11

Rodion couldn't believe what he was hearing. But he understood what drove her to such words. They broke his heart, and he prayed hard then and there that she wouldn't take off again. "This isn't just on you. We protect each other. And if you leave, who will protect you from him?" It was all he offered. He didn't want to overwhelm her with anymore words, and he realized with guilt that he had most likely already done too much. She just seemed so scared. And before he knew it, she was down for the count once again. His heart jumped, but he knew that this was almost a habit for her under so much duress. Calmly, he laid his large frame lengthwise beside her, head on his paws. The very tips of his fur barely touched hers, and though he was outwardly calm, his mind raced.

As Ganon's scent retreated, more entered. They all hailed from the Lone Lands, but their alliance was painfully unclear. So many instincts were pressing at him. He felt like he needed to just get up and do the usual "name, alliance, purpose", but he didn't know where he stood with his pack anymore. Would they take him back as alpha? Had he been replaced? If they would have him, then they could at least stall until he could leave Zelda's side. He refused to move with the attacks so fresh on the land. Another scent drew awfully close.

A little pup he had never met approached him. His tassel thumped on the ground and he gave her a warm smile, the kind he imagined a father would give. She looked curiously at his fainted friend and he explained as best he could. "She isn't sleeping, little one. Zelda was very stressed by some wolves who came here, her enemies. She's only fainted, but she'll wake in a little while." It was the most he could bear to give to one so young. He would spare the details. His honey eyes met her green ones, and his posture welcomed her closer if she desired. "What's your name, dear one?"

Niger began to waken more and more as time passed. Her beady yet bright green orbs blinked hard at the conclusion of the fighting that had taken place, her head popping up and around to try and see. Her body finally was squirming out of the general protection of her mother. She wanted to walk right in the middle of where the action had taken place. She didn't really care what might happen, even though Zelda, Balthier, Ganon, or really anyone had the potential to harm her, intentional or not. Before she could really get on her paws, Ganon had begun to leave, and Zelda had passed out from the stress. Niger cocked a brow at Zelda's body. "Why is she sleeping?" she quipped.

Zelda's wide eyes stayed on Ganon and her heart wrenched terribly when Rodion came closer. No...he had to stay away. She didn't want him to get close, she had the choice to leave. That was the only way Ganon would leave, he would follow her and she could spare Midnight Meadows anymore pain. Everyone had suffered so much they did not need to suffer her past. Trembling her eyes flicked to Rodion but ultimately watched what was happening with Ganon. "I have to..I have to protect the pack." She shuddered out, she would sacrifice herself for this pack. It was her home and would always be in her heart of hearts. And she would and could leave so that Ganon never molested them again..because he would and she realized her fear of that was greater than her own fear of him. But the scene before her was happening in slow motion. What would happen..would Balthier slay him? He was on his feet and..leaving? Panic blossomed in her chest. If he left then she would have to leave eventually anyways. She could not rish the danger to the pack. Eyes flicked back and forth between the two brutes. Her awareness of Rodion was like a burning sun. And then he left and Zelda watched him limp away with only one companion. Her body trembled once more before she passed out.

CeCe walked a couple feet behind the bru, Killian, that she had met not to long ago. When he had come, it seemed everything would be okay, with her other two wonderful friends, Alpine and Riptide. The pup she was carrying and the one Killian was were Riptide's and everything seemed perfect. But then sadly, everything went down hill. Riptide had caught the foam mouth disease, and Alpine had caught it also. Alpine then jumped of a cliff and died. CeCe freaked out and cut her shoulders. After when she was going to stay alive, she told her feelings about Killian to him, but he declined. They would stay friends and decided it would be best for Calx, Pacis, and her to join a pack. They chose the Midnight Meadows. What a crazy and sad day.
She walked up beside Killian who had growled at a wolf that was greeting a 4 month old pup. It seemed to be alone. The bru lowered his lips and spoke to the male that was near. She waited for the other bru to speak before she did.

The little wolf pup heard footsteps, like a running sound of a older bru. He must have heard his young howl for help and was coming to greet him. Arkham looked at the sky, clouds sitting up there. But the focus on the sky was broken by the larger body of the wolf that had heard him. The bru barely missed his location, more than likely not seeing his golden-brown body, mixing in with the light brown grass. He responded to the wolf's question and said," My name is Arkham and I have come here to join, once I am older. Sadly, my parents had died to a mountian lion attack. Before my mother passed, she said to come here as she said you would take care of me."
Just then, another bru appeared and growled at Arkham. He was scared so he lowered himself a bit and whimpered. The male spoke to Vaarak and looked at him after looking at the adult that greeted him. He blinked and waited for the next wolf to say something; Vaarak, the strange bru, or the quiet fem.

At first glance he was a normal wolf. Deeper, he was something completely different. He felt at ease walking into Midnight, glad his former home wasn't wreaked upon his body. He stopped, setting the pup down and looking to CeCe. "So far... it fits you, I think you'll be happy here" He said softly giving her a small nod, then there was a chipper voice and Killian growled quickly looking to the side where it had come from. His lips had pulled back slightly to reveal white teeth and his eyes focused through the area finding a wolf speaking to another, no, it was a pup. Here we go. His lips came back down and he picked up the pup nodding towards Cece to follow. He made his way over towards the pair, once there, he set the pup back down and sat down beside it. "Sorry to intrude here on playtime kids, but I need to speak to someone urgently for my friend and her young" His eyes locked onto Vaarak and then to the pup. Why he spoke like he did he wasn't sure, but he must have gotten it from either one of his parents...

Fran heard Terra first, followed by who she guessed were her pups. Loping over, she looked around, asking, "Was it that fem, Terra? Are there any injuries?" Her first priority had to be the physical health of the survivors, and then she could deal with the emotional wounds, as Terra had no mate to be there for her. Suddenly, a young howl made itself known. She held back a growl and turned away from Terra to bark at Vaarak. Fran couldn't leave, nor would anyone else be able to. Besides, Vaarak still behaved as a pup himself at times. The owner of the voice sounded too weak to make him find his way over alone. Her attention back to Terra, she was pretty sure there weren't major injuries, but she wouldn't be able to identify smaller scratches with the rest of the blood.

Vaarak winced at Fran's urgent bark. He didn't know what was happening, and no one was able to explain it yet. To Safira, he said, "Stay here or near Fran. I need to see who it is." He touched his muzzle with her shoulder to let her know he was leaving, and he ran towards the soft howl.

Some time later, he came across a pup, barely four months. He'd almost run past the poor pup, but had noticed and quickly come to a stop. "Hiya!" He paused to take a closer look. "Are you ok? Need anything? Oh, I'm Vaarak," he said rather quickly.

Balthier watched their forms vanish, out of the lands. He turned towards the others who were still around. Rodion and Zelda had disappeared. Running to Link, Cinder, and Storm, he questioned, "Who's injured and where? There's work to be done, and neither of the apprentices are here." He hadn't expected anything to have happened while he was gone, and the pack was scattered, especially Fran and Vaarak, where he'd send them away. Someone would have to find and give them a list of herbs and bring them back.

Life could be very unfair. Your parents could die when you were young, your close brother and sister can leave, or you could be alone in a very unknown place. All three of them had happened to a 4 month old Timber wolf pup...named Arkham. He had been alone for weeks and weeks on end, hungry for some nice, juicey elk, and some nice cool water on his dry lips. He had no idea where he was. But he knew he was alone.

Arkham's parents and siblings were died, as they were killed by a mountain lion, wandering the place he was born. He didn't remember it well, but that it was very cold. Before his mother died, her last words spoke of a pack she wished he would go to. The Midnight Meadows? That was his thought. But after she had died, said his goodbyes and walked to head to the pack. He had reached it, finally. He howled softly and waited on a wolf to find him. Arkham wished that there was an adult in this pack that would happily take him in...as their very own.

Ganon turned, hearing Balthier's words. He said nothing, but replied with a bloody smile, one that said he would one day, return. Flash stood at Ganon's side near his wounded leg, providing a silent barrier between the two wolves. Then, Ganon headed off in the direction he came, knowing that Flash would take the blow if Balthier proved darker than he appeared. They would head for the Lone Lands, through the desert, over the mountains, and then to the barren Gerudo Valley, where he would be welcomed back as king. King. It was a good thing these pure wolves never went on any crusades, for he knew they would have been sorely outmatched against his master clan.

There was one last thing he had to do on his way out, though. And thankfully, it did not divert from his straight path. It was a stop on the way.

He may not have been able to have Zelda, but there was always her brother.

Ganon swayed near the fallen brute, still lying on his back from Flash and Flame's previous attack, seemingly unconscious. Ganon stood over his body, large shadow enveloping his, his bloody smile the only thing visible against the light of the summer sun. He kneeled down, as to whisper in his ear. "Do not think this ends here... The history of light and shadow will be written in blood," he growled, and then sat up, before Balthier could notice and Link could reply, if he had the strength to. "Come, Flash. It is time we return to the lands that make us strong, and all others weak." Flash nodded, and thus he and the great, dark wolf headed for the place where the wind and sand blew past the edges of time...

OOC: Okay, now Ganon, Flash, and Flame are out of Midnight. I'll bring Ganon back one of these days, when things are getting boring, or if Zelda or Link need some character-building exercises. Or for some kind of plot. Who knows.

Storm moved back, looking at Balthier and Ganon. So the fight was over? That was good, as Balthier had obviously won. Zelda would be safe. The pack was safe for the time being. The wounded could be healed and cared for.

Terra heard Fran call for who was present. She gave a soft, sad bark, with a whine almost woven into it. Slade yipped, along with Cloudpelt. Neither could understand what had just taken place, being too young.

Balthier reeled back from the kick, but hide any signs of being dazed. "Odd, I don't, either, but they seem to have an obsession for interfering with my life. Now, if you'd kindly refrain from ever returning to these lands, else you find yourself dead." He didn't make any movements towards or away from Ganon. If the wolf wanted to live, so be it, so long as he didn't come back. If he did, then Balthier would know the gods found amusement in toying with him, dragging him into these situations.

He'd make sure the pair left the lands before thinking about seeing how the others fared. He hadn't paid any attention to the other fight he sent the fem to. Until then, he had to observe what was in front it him. Both were cautious of the other, but it didn't mean he or Ganon wouldn't throw in an attack when the other's back turned. Balthier wouldn't now that there was little advantage due to their growing distance from one another.

Fran reached the dens after checking to see if Safira and Vaarak still followed. She had gone at a slower pace, listening for any signs Balthier needed help... whatever was going on. She sniffed the air and automatically came to a stop. Death. Why, when she hadn't been gone for that long? Was it that fem, Bell? No, that wasn't her real name. She hadn't paid it any mind. The others here... Who died and who survived? Sheran forward, further into the den site and barked, calling for a verbal response from those in the area. She was the one to know the newcomers best out of the pack members, and needed to see what happened and see who survived. No other pack member would know who was already present. "Vaarak, stay here with Safira. It's safe now, but I need to find out what happened."

Vaarak turned to see how Safira was doing. She probably had no idea what was going on, being unable to see. He was guiding her again, but wasn't worried, since their pace wasn't fast. It was a walk. He said, "We're safe now. We're back at the dens." His pace slowed to a stop as Fran froze, intent on something. He imitated her, and instantly smelled blood. "Fran?" he asked, but didn't make any movements to follow. He turned to look at Safira, to see if she was ok.

"Gods?" Ganon scoffed, molten eyes burning into Balthier's. "I don't believe in gods." Seeing immediately that the fight was not over, he used his good leg to give his opponent a strong kick on top of his skull, forcing him away from tearing out his stomach. He slid out from beneath him just enough to get on his feet again. "Flash! Flame!" he barked to his slave-companions. Flash came bounding over to him, but Flame did not. Ganon could smell the death in the air and knew that Flame was no more. "We're leaving, dammit," he snarled, coming close to Flash, glaring at Balthier. "Because this blithering idiot doesn't know when the hell it's time to call it quits."

He held his hind left leg up, where blood gushed from the wound. It wasn't broken, but it was certainly fractured. He headed north to the desert, the Lone Lands, his home. He sneezed the blood out of his nose to inhale the air... Where had Zelda gone? There was a scent mixed with hers, and Ganon knew that it would be pointless to go after her. He kept a watchful eye on Balthier, though... Ganon had withdrawn from the battle, admitting his defeat. If Balthier attacked him or Flash, then their prior vow to keep things 'two-on-two' would be invalidated. Not that it really mattered, since the fight was supposed to be over. Nevertheless, Ganon would keep a red eye on the wolf, both of their maws covered in each other's blood.

Rodion took her in for that brief moment that they held fast to one another. If he could have read her thoughts he would have reassured her that she could indeed anchor herself to him. He swore to never leave her, or any of them for that matter, ever again. Inwardly to himself, and later to her. He could feel himself breaking for her as her fearful eyes stared into his. Zelda stuttered. She wasn't herself. "You must what? Zelda-" She couldn't even speak to him. She was breaking away. Running again. No... who knew where she could get off to? And with one of these brutes come to take her away? Any one of them could be sent after her.

His eyes followed her as she ran off, and her scent could be followed easily enough. Though he wanted nothing more than to tear apart the one who threatened her, join Balthier in the fray, the hessian had to remind himself that this was not his fight. And the others were well enough on their own. If others were needed, a call would be sent out, something would be announced. He knew it. He would follow her... He had to. She could shoo him when she got there, but not until he at least tried. Passing by the sulking Ganon, he did not spare a heavy snarl his direction before bounding off. That brute was the reason He, Link, and Zelda had met in the first place. And though he did not regret that, he regretted the circumstances.

When out of their earshot, he called out to her. "Zelda?" Not because he couldn't find her, but so as not to startle her when he approached. She hid at the edge of the trees. His nares sniffed out her scent quickly enough, and he allowed a brief moment for the smell to gather there. Every bit of her was precious to him. He caught sight of her and approached slowly, cautiously. Rodion pinned his aud's back and dipped his crown. "Zelda... Please don't run off like that," His Russian baritone was almost a whisper, "I know you're frightened but... you frightened me." He sighed and tried to reestablish the connection in their eyes. "I know he's horrible. And I know he's the last one you ever want to see. But we will protect you. Until the very end." He dared a reassuring kiss to her cheek, neutral in its quality, though he knew better what lay in his heart. "Why did you run when I came?"

He moved without thinking, merely reacting to what was going on. His fangs latched onto something that he'd soon realize was the bones in Ganon's legs. Not broken like a deer's would be, but still hurting, nevertheless. The large wolf fell, but not dead. His words reached Balthier's ears. Won? Nay, not yet. Cold eyes stared at Ganon's. "You have done wrong here. Your luck with the gods are running out." Seeing as Ganon's head was lingering somewhat protectively over his neck, Balthier aimed for another vital spot, the stomach.

Pure pack or not, he had to prove darkness couldn't trample everywhere they please. Just because they were pure didn't mean he wouldn't kill. This was for the sake of the pack, and possibly for other wolves that would be assaulted in the future. How many times have I reverted back to my old life? I keep running, and I just come back in a circle. he thought bitterly. He expected his past occupation to catch up with him, no matter how much he wished it wouldn't. He was as ready to kill as ever, but this time to protect rather than to flee. With the knowledge of a healer now, he knew where to aim to kill him the fastest, unless Ganon decided he didn't want to die so soon and moved.

Zelda's frantic cries where ignored and she felt her heart screaming in protest. Surely they would not give up her right to sacrifice for the pack. So many bodies were moving and shouts and snarls rang in the air. Her blood was on fire and the world was a fishbowl vision. And through it all a voice cut through her brain too delayed to register who it was. Wide eyed she stared as Cinder..little Cinder bore brutally down on her attackers blood in the air, blood on ground but as the two females attacked Link's opponent there was no blood on Links neck and despite the almost tilltilating rush of relief she felt something within her crack. A piece of herself breaking under the stress. But before the fissure could widen and find purchase in more cracks he was all around her. His face pressing against , his scent erasing the stink of blood, fear and anger. Rodion.. Her mind finally supplied the wolf's whose voice boomed earlier. A rush of heat filled her body, flooding her limbs with a warmth that led to strength. Her body steadied as she gazed into his fervent eyes. The depth of them captured and steadied her holding those fissures tightly together. There was a sigh that came from her chest and his words were....sweet...oh they were so sweet. So wrongly did she hold those words and thought that just for a moment she could anchor herself to him...to this pack with the conviction and need in his voice. But she could not hold on. The shock of seeing Rodion blew her through a loop and she found herself almost stuttering to speak. "Rodion...I-_I...I must..." She took a step back before preparing to lope off into the forest, then she could break the rules of the fight and surely Ganon would pursue her then. Taking one more tentative step backwards her words were a sob when they came out "I-I-I'm sorry" And she turned to go and ran to the edge of the woods but not before she listened to what her senses were screaming at her. Look They said The quiet... Pausing she faltered in her step at the scene she left seconds behind her but were now completely different. One of Ganon's minions was slayed, presumably by Cinder, the other sitting on point waiting for his downed master to command or slaughter.

Muscles locked, she didn't trust Ganon and the longer he lay there the more likely he got back up. Zelda was frantic on the inside she had seen what this hessian could do and she did not trust him. The urge to cry for his death stuck in her throat and she once again
found herself helpless..what was going to happen?

Ooc: If this post seems a little... piecey..it's Zelda's fragmented state of mind >_<

The next thing he knew, he was on the ground. He wasn't sure how it had happened or when. Balthier had ducked under him, and for a moment, he had thought that he had the wolf in his grasp, but there was a crushing pain in his legs and he fell on his side. He ducked his head, protecting his neck, knowing that the wolf would be on him. The blood flooded his nares and his eyes, but he was far from death. Instead of fighting further, he tucked his tail and folded his ears. "You win," he said in a dark, surly tone, waiting for Balthier's next move. He wondered if the brute had the capability of killing him. Well, he would put a test to that. And it wasn't a test of strength... It was a test of mercy, justice... Ethics.

Dead. That's what his brother was. Dead. Flash could see his fallen form thirty yards away from him. Something within him whimpered, but he kept it silent; seeing that the small female defending Link was distracted, he took a moment to see what his master was doing... On the ground? Was his master actually giving in? Yes... That's what it appeared to be. Following Ganon's instructions, Flash did not attack. Instead, he sat back on his haunches, ears back, paws together. He was not waiting for an attack. He was waiting for his next command.

Cinder pushed off the brute happy his jaws were off of her mate and she put herself between Flash and Link. Her hackles were up and her body tensed, ready to leap into action to protect her mate.

She had lost so much. Her innocence, her pups...of her loins and heart, and now they were trying to take her mate from her....again. She snarled low and dangerously, her muzzle covered with crimson....the crimson of his brother who lay probably dead by now. Her silver eyes never left her quarry. "Link...are you okay?" She called back behind him, tail held bristled and in a dominant fashion.

Balthier wouldn't waste breath taunting at the moment, though he desired to. There were no rules apart from the fact Zelda couldn't leave the area, so all the attention of the larger wolf was on him. He wasn't beyond pulling tricks to enrage Ganon enough to make a mistake. His fangs had found its mark, and he took every advantage of it until Ganon pulled away, neck exposed.

He'd not paid attention to his surroundings, and heard a faintly familiar voice. One he realized he hadn't heard since he came back home. Rodion. His split second pause had allowed Ganon to use Balthier's hesitation to his advantage, and was coming back down at him, jaws opened more to protect his neck more than for attack. So it was the paws doing the work this time. Balthier ducked and slipped under the wolf and to the side of the legs just at the apex of Ganon's rise, so he wouldn't have as much time to react. With any luck, Ganon wouldn't be able to use his paws to push him into the ground and would have to resort to his jaws to make his next move. It was good at this moment his adversary was as large as he was, as Balthier had a little bit more room to maneuver. As Ganon's body and weight came down, Balthier braced himself and shot his upper body upward, towards the middle of Ganon's stomach, only tilting his head as much as necessary. This was probably a crazy and dangerous move, but there was a chance one or both of them would be injured or dead.

He picked his target so if Ganon used his hind legs, the knees would only collide with his jaw, potentially causing a bite to Ganon's stomach to tighten. It'd hurt, but that was better than getting a knee to his throat and cutting off the air and grip he'd need. Ganon would have to be really flexible and quick at reacting to grab Balthier by the back of the throat. Maybe the best he could get would be his back, shoulder, or leg, although he wouldn't know until it happened. How the two wolves collided would determine who would get the worst wounds. Gravity would work for either wolf. Of course, Ganon might think to try to use his legs to push Balthier away, too.

It was too unpredictable. He was ready for the best, the worst, or something in between now, although he was pretty sure he'd come out by the end of this. The pack needed him to win, especially Zelda, as her life is on the line. He stopped the first attempt with a challenge. He guessed if he lost, Rodion would defend her, not believing, or ignoring Ganon's explanation there'd been an agreement. That'd be a breech of the deal, and anyone who'd dealt with Balthier's former profession knew what happened... Ganon might leave, but he'd be back very quickly for his agreed prize and the pack would suffer for the breech. He had to come out alive, not dead.

,Wishing on a Shooting Star, :MB: - Page 5 Rodion10

How long had he left them? How careless could he have been? All of his life he had been taught to never abandon his pack. And yet here he was, returning with the fear in his heart that they would never forgive him. He tried to justify it in his mind. He had to return home. His family needed him. The bloodshed would have only continued had he allowed his father's cursed assassin one more breath.

He always knew Ivan would come. At dawn, when Rodion had only the intention of emerging from his den to make a brief trip to the river, he found himself face to face with long unseen kin. They embraced, but there were no formalities or trading of stories. He was met with a stern but frightened gaze.
"Rodia," The nickname, no matter how poisoned with grief, was still so sweet to his ears. "You have to come home. Everything has fallen to ruin. Nicolai and his bastard followers have overrun us all. Our mothers and daughters are suffering. Sofia has borne Nicolai's spawn and they treat her no better. Our mother-"
"Enough," he cut him off, the words weighing too heavy, too much at once. "I cannot abandon my pack, Ivan. I can't."
"But you've abandoned your family, brother."
"Last I looked, you ran me out." To speak of the memory left a bitter taste on his tongue.
"I did no such thing!" Ivan snarled immediately. His brother's rank held no sway here, though seeing the surprise at the words caused him to lower his voice immediately. He didn't want to put him off anymore than he already had. He spoke at no more than a murmur. "The few of us still loyal to you have received our fair share of punishment." Turning his head to the side, two long gashes ran from the back of his crown and down to the shoulder blade, still red, still healing. "Mother cries for you. And every time, she is seized upon. They intend to teach her not to until she dies." His eyes were pleading. He wouldn't cry, but his throat tightened and every emotion he held back weighted down his voice. "We need you. At least to make things right. Please."
Rodion stared at him for a long time, shaking. His auds pinned back tightly against his head. Leave Midnight? Leave Zelda? With the way these lands were, who knew what would happen in the meantime? But his family, his old home... who was he to leave them behind? And if they all died, he would bear the grief for the rest of his days.
A grave nod. "The road is a long one. We must leave now and leave as little trace as we can."
"You won't tell them?"
"There is a face I cannot bear to see if I do." His focus locked on the ground. To see the look on Zelda's face were he to give her the news would shatter his heart. It was no simpler than that.
Ivan understood, and by way of Jabbar's borders they slipped away from the lands of Fire and Ice. At least for now.

The sights he had seen had added grey to his muzzle, the grief and memory of his home, torn to pieces, decimated by over hunting... The beauty had left the place and become nothing but grey. his sister, younger than he, looked well beyond him in years, harrowed by the torture of two horrific sons and a daughter, all of whom inherited their father's tainted blood. His mother resided in a shallow den not too far from her, and hardly moved from the place. He learned soon enough that she was heard from there every night, and often times her daughter too, abused and taken by the brutes of the pack whenever they pleased. He had maintained his composure up until the very moment he saw a single tear spill from his mother's face. He had never felt more sorry. The elders he had known and loved so well had all passed on, he learned from her. And Nicolai had them all wrapped around his paw. It was sickening. They all regretted not having believed him, she said, but Rodion wouldn't hear of it. It was in the past.

He told her what he had come to do, and the moment he had backed out of the den was met with a growl and a droll line of contempt-laden speech.
"Well well, the Prodigal Son returns." No sooner had the words left his mouth than he was striking Ivan aside with an unsolicited swipe of the paw. The bru was much more cowed and malnourished than he let on, for he went down instantly.
Rodion immediately placed himself between them and prepared for the inevitable attack.
"I have no time for small talk with you, scum. But that is the last time you will ever touch my family."

There was no grand audience of followers, no performance to be put on. Just a sister, a mother, and a brother to take note. Nicolai made a lunge, but was struck down immediately by Rodion's defensive tackle. An attempt to make another attack, and he found himself bleeding from the shoulder. He was big, but compared to Rodion a terrible fighter. A third, and his throat was being mercilessly crushed. The long lost son made no attempt to give him last words. He choked, drowning in his own blood. It no longer mattered that his windpipe was closed off; the fangs buried deep in his tissue were deadlier.

Just as there was no audience for the short battle, there was no sigh of relief, and no immediate miracle to be had. Just blood and a fresh corpse. Rodion offered to stay and raise the pack up and back to health. As was expected by cowards, Nicolai's band of followers, including Sofia's wretched children, ran off, knowing they would be killed sooner rather than later by those who had allied with Rodion and Ivan since the beginning. Rodion was humbled to see that the "few" who had maintained their loyalty were truly many in number, and it was hard for him to leave them all. But he had come to restore the pack, and with time, that was what he did. He always did so with Ivan by his side, and on the morning he departed, he left his younger brother the throne. As much as he loved this place and his family, he had been gone for too long and could not justify leading them, despite his actions. He had to return to where he had made home. Where he knew others waited. Where Zelda waited...

Things were not right. Why was it that chaos always seemed to be one step ahead of him? Rodion could feel the heavy conflict in the air. Unwelcome visitors, strange scents, of those he was certain. He was still far from the scene, too far to see. But he could hear the growls, the cries, and picked up his pace, bolting in an immediate, full blast run to where the sounds came from. His russet pelt flashed through the fields, as though a flame was bursting through them. His breath clung ragged to his lungs, rushing after already having traveled so long. He could smell her. Oh he could smell her and she was wrapped up in fear. Not again. Blood... so much blood was being spilled. How could he have let this happen?

The hessian quickly came upon them, and his heart leapt, then subsequently sank to his stomach. Cinder taking on a stranger, Balthier against some unknown foe who had a precious gem in his sights. One that did not belong to him. As much as his body told him to jump in, it was not his place, and he could ruin everything. He had every intention of holding back until the opportune moment, but when Zelda's cry rang out, he could no longer contain himself.
'Stop! I'll go with him! Please! ...Call them off and I'll go with you!'
"No!" The cry burst from his throat before he could call it back. Not earth shattering, but enough where he knew she would hear. He ran to her. Unashamed and replete with grief. His crown pressed into her neck.
"Don't say that. Don't you dare say that." He sighed and pulled his head back just enough to take her in with misty eyes. "No one is taking you anywhere."
Now, of that he wasn't certain. And it killed him. He had no idea what the hell was going on, but coming back to Midnight Meadows uninvited after leaving an entire pack without warning, he had no right to say anything. This was not his fight, but in his heart at least, he'd be damned if he'd lose her.

A spray of dirt screened his eyes. Ganon choked, shutting them, shaking his head. It was a dirty trick, it was, the kind that pups pulled. Another snarl erupted from his throat and soon there were teeth on his muzzle. Without thinking very clearly, he pulled his head back, freeing his muzzle but exposing his neck. His jaws opened and he raised himself up on his back legs, using the power of gravity to pull him back down, hopefully landing on the annoying bru's neck and crushing it beneath his paws. Blood dripped from his nares and it was a little difficult to breathe through them, but he would use the might of his bod to overpower Balthier, oh yes he would, for he needed to win, to get Zelda for good...

Pain. Critical, blinding pain shot up Flame's hock, now gushing with blood. He stumbled and snapped in retaliation at Cinder, but the fem had already moved on. Whimpers escaped his throat and he cradled his leg towards him, holding it up in the air as if he had a broken paw, but it was evident that he was clearly injured for life... The wound was deep, deeper than he had realized, so that he could see the white of the bone. His vision was growing hazy and he knew that he could not catch up to finish the battle, for it was clearly over. Far away, he saw Ganon's great form rise in the air... Hopefully, his master was winning... And then there was his brother, now being tackled by the two females, as he had been only moments ago... Flame's blood was still hot from the battle and it ran like a warm river down his leg, trailing behind him. He collapsed to the ground. It was an injury that would do more than just wound him for life... It would take his life.

Flash thrashed, still reaching for Link's throat, when two forms threw him to the ground. Teeth and claws scratched and nipped at him, drawing little nibbles of blood, but he couldn't tell who it was; all he knew was that it was nothing lethal. He rolled onto his feet, quick as a whip, ready for whoever came at him. He scanned the landscape for his brother, but he could not see him. He hadn't ran, had he? Flame was no coward...

Cinder snarled loudly and then her body would clash with Flames, jaws snapping and reaching for vulnerable places before darting away. She was fast. Small but fast. She growled low and her ears pinned against her skull. No time for words she darted in again, this time unexpectedly from behind and her ivories slipped from their velvet covers to aim for his hocks, and like she would a large moose, try to slice his tendon.

To wound him that way would be to wound him for life. Hopefully she connected.

Storms words hit her ears as she bounded away and she shook her head. She looked back over at Flash who was upon her mate. She spun, leaving her hind end unprotected and threw herself at the larger wolf Flash, hoping to knock him away from Link to allow him to right himself. Her jaws would hopefully sink into his shoulder and wound him as well.

Storm heard Zelda’s cry as Flash came near to Link’s life vein. She also noticed Ganon’s silence. She took a vital second to see him ignoring Zelda, something odd, as Zelda seemed to be the one he wanted. Her and Cinder collided with Flame, knocking him off of Link. She bared her teeth, crouching low to the ground, keeping her bad leg off the ground. She looked between Cinder, who was being attacked, and Link, who was in life danger. “I’ll be back.” She whispered to Cinder, springing at Flash, teeth bared and claws ready.

Terra looked at Niger as she awoe. She ignored her question, pulling her close and nuzzling her.

He faintly registered Zelda's voice. It was background noise to him by now. He unconsciously got the idea of what she was saying, but Ganon seemed to be into this with no inkling of stopping. Balthier had no hesitation in his continued charge, despite being more used to Zelda as alpha than Rhodion... wherever he'd gone off to. Matters like this didn't have room for rank. It was about ability, will, and the right smarts.

Stopping his internal smirk from gracing his physical features, he saw the larger form move out of the way in such a way to leave Balthier himself open. He whirled around, quite gracefully if one were looking for aesthetics. The tip of his tail brushed the ground, collecting and kicking up a tiny barrage of dirt. He'd moved just fast enough to get away with one fang scratching his leg as Ganon's jaws started to close. Balthier's still turning momentum allowed his tail range to whip across Ganon's face- a toying gesture, and with some luck, loose dirt on the tail would fall into his eyes. His spin continued, only slowing in order to change direction to surge forward to snap jaws where he instinctively guessed Ganon's jaws would be based on where he felt the other last. Unprotected areas were of obvious and normally easy to reach choices, and Balthier wasn't normal in his actions. To keep a good defense going, his favorite way was maintaining offense, even while shifting away every so often. Once one falls into a trap, it could be difficult to climb out of. It's best to stay out of it in the first place.

Ganon paused, hearing Zelda's frantic words. He looked over his shoulder and past her worried gaze to a tumble of fur that appeared to be Flash and Flame, doing as they were told in killing Link. A snarl grabbed his attention back as Balthier charged for him, surging low to the ground. Ganon ignored Zelda's cry and went into a ready position, waiting until the last second to dodge Balthier's attack, whipping around, large jaws aiming for the wolf's unguarded hindquarters. If he landed, he would certainly draw blood; if he missed, he knew he would have to get his own haunches out of the way, or else Balthier would make the same move he just did. Zelda's cries pierced his auds and he flattened his ears, silencing her as a terrible growl rumbled from his chest. His blood was on fire and he had no intention of stopping now.

Flash hovered inches above Link's neck, ivories clicking at tufts of fur, the bru's paws digging into his chest. He was mere centimeters away from ripping his throat open. Flame wriggled out from beneath, claws slashing at Link's coat, his snarl just as deadly as his brother's. Just as he stood, though, two forms crashed into his and he was sent tumbling again. The world spun before his eyes but he shook his head, seeing two very angry females growling at him [Cinder and Storm]. He had no doubt that they would try and kill him. He threw a look to Flash but he was too busy reaching for Link, his claws swinging in the air, trying to propel himself forward to reach Link's neck. It wouldn't take him long to reach his target. Knowing that the females would want to rescue Link, Flame sprinted forth for Cinder, the smaller of the two, and therefore, weaker. He was growing tired of the battle, having hit the ground many times, but he would continue to fight for his master.

Meanwhile, distant of the fighting, Niger’s eyes slowly fluttered open once more, her body curled in a ball with her tail bending around her dark muzzle. She sat staring at the tail in front of her face for some time, mystified in simplicity. The scents of her slaughtered siblings nearby were powerful, but her nose did not register them completely. She had no idea what had happened to her family. She was unaware of the fighting going on between the wolves of the pack. She hadn’t seen her mother since she fell asleep. Most of all, she barely knew where she was. Strangely, Niger didn’t much care about that, while most whelps her age would be probably frightened, panicking because they were alone. Her head lifted with floppy auds following close behind, followed by the rest of her black pelted body. Her legs feebly tried to gather themselves under her for support, but they spread too far apart from each other to gain balance. Finally, after a small struggle, her body stood on all fours, as she let out a tiny, tired groan. “Where did everybody go?” she said, sleep still heavy in her lyrics.

Zelda was unsure of what happened then, he was on her smother her and making it hard to breath. Then Balthier's voice came, a challenge. Ganon could never shut down a challenge. His weight gone she struggled to stand, the world was spinning. This used to happen to her a lot in the days after she escaped him. She was almost lost to the darkness if it hadn't been for Link. He was always there...Eyes searching she saw her brother battling with two wolves. Cinder and another wolfess going to aid him. Her heart screamed in panic but she could do nothing..

Link tumbled with the hessian, each snapping and snarling at each other. He could see the advance of the other bru towards him and several things happened at once. While he was distracted his leg got pinned awkward flinging him into the ground with brutal force. The back of his head hit and all he saw was whiteness for a brief few seconds. And then there was teeth on his throat. Teeth that he swore would never be there again. Cinder! Zelda! He had to help them. He heard his sister scream.

"STOP! STOP DON'T PLEASE DON'T!" Her scream tore from her throat desperately. She saw the hessian's jaws on Link's neck and knew that if her brother died right now she would shatter into a million pieces and never be whole again. "Balthier! STOP! I'll go with him! It's fine! PLEASE!" Her body shook and tears streamed down her face. "Ganon! Call them off and I'll go with you!" The words snapped off harshly but her eyes were on her brother. Her body shook with the anguish she felt. This time she would save him and take this trouble away from the pack. It seemed like eons of waiting until she got a reply..

Link moved quickly. Like a flash and he was on the wolf that had just been in front of her ...jaws snapping. She flicked her ears back and then watched her beloved tumble with the wolf. Then motion off to her side and she saw Flash jumping and springing for Link's back. Aiming to pin him between two sets of jaws.

No...she thought and her body reacted. She may be small but she was extremly quick. Her paws set to motion and she launched herself at Link's other attacker. Her jaws open wide to snap and tear at his side and middle if she connected. Hopefully her momentum would be enough to roll the wolf too and keep him from Link.

"It's Balthier," he said with a smirk, after Ganon had finished speaking, noting the larger wolf's approach. "A thief's word among his own is law, enforced one way or another. Even one who has abandoned their lifestyle never forgets, so for that reason, I wouldn't dare try to sneak Zelda away from the fight- she's in no immediate danger of dying. And for all I know, you have friends hiding elsewhere." He didn't like to speak so casually and distant about her, but he had to so he could get himself in the proper mindset. He had his fair share of fights and exchanged words with his kind, and it's something to never underestimate, no matter how many stories of stupid thieves one hears. Although it was generally easy enough to identify the stupid ones. This one, though, wasn't. It'd be a difficult fight, but feasible, depending on the direction the fight would lead...

"Let's start this now, then," he said after another moment. He'd finished physically sizing up his opponent. It was a pity he didn't have the foresight to dig around for his minor poisons, but how would he have known the pack was in trouble? The pack had better thank him for this after this was over- there was a chance of getting some scars unless he would be able to take care of them right away.

He made a bold charge, jaws open in a snarl. His body was positioned closer to the ground. His aim appeared to be at the legs, which he knew wouldn't connect. If Ganon merely avoided the attack, he'd wait for the next move. If the other wolf tried to bite him in return, Balthier would execute his original plan of locking jaws to get a better sense of strength and how much room for error he had. Any other possible outcomes would cause a spur of the moment reaction. First was to see how Ganon would respond to overconfidence. If that didn't cause him to make mistakes, taunting would come next. There'd be a few options after that, depending on what happens, although it was doubtful whether he'd remember to execute them or not.
