| Corentine listened to the situation, knowing to behave as if Evanescence couldn't see. She wouldn't doubt that the white pelted alphess knew about where each step was, but this was a test after all. Of course, the footholds were just large enough for one wolf at a time, so Corentine would have to go first and backward to give Evanescence accurate instruction and to ensure she didn't fall. In her mind, this was a test of instruction, judging distance, and to foresee danger.
Once she believed to have found the safest way down, she stepped backwards onto the footholds, looking down to ensure her hind legs would touch down upon solid ground. Now that she was going first, she'd know how far it was to the next ledge. Almost as if she was trained to recited this, she said, "Five paw widths to the left of your left paw is a hold almost a foot downward." She would wait until Evanescence had her paw safely over the solid ground of the ledge before redirecting her so that she would be parallel to the wall of the crevasse and facing the correct direction for the next ledge, "Adjust the direction you're facing by twenty degrees to the left. Walk forward two normal steps, then step three paw lengths forward, dropping about half a foot." Corentine would be moving as she gave out the next instruction so she could watch Evanescence, a paw ready to throw itself forward on the chance the alphess decided to misstep. This would prevent a potential fall from occurring in the first place and both would be moving at a constant pace. She would have to change her wording if the distance between two ledges required a long jump. A short leap would be just as easy to guide as a normal step.
She kept her guard up through this. Evanescence could throw a twist at her at any time to keep her thinking on her feet, and she was determined not to fail this task.

| Her auds twitched as the sound of Vaults lyrics hit them, so he thought he was being nice? Solara knew there was no reason for anyone to be nice to one another. She looked up and watched as Evon and Correntine disappeared. So the testing was beginning. "Whatever" Is all the snowy femme said. She moved in on the kill, her crimson orbs zeroed in on the belly area. She brought her muzzle slowly down to the kill, her eyes looking up to watch the others. She dug in, her ivory canines slicing through the meat with ease. The blood poured into her mouth again and she smiled. Closing her optics she took full advantage of the moment. She pulled a decently large chunk away from the kill and moved away. She laid down onto her belly with one swift movement, the meat inbetween her pillars. She ate in peace, and for the first time her mind was at ease and not running. She was wondering when her brother would be returning, and who would he be returning with? As she finished, her stomach full, she rose up onto all fours and padded away from the kill. Her ghostly form moving with ease through the mist that surrounded Lacrimosa. She found the lake where she and Niko had met Evon and dipped her tiara down. Her primrose tongue lapped up the icy water with ease. It also began to wash away the blood from her maw. She rose her maw, and dipped her pillars in a little, the crimson mixed with the lake water with ease. As she finished drinking and cleaning herself she turned, deciding she would just head back to where her den was. She wished Niko was here...
Ooc|| She is such a spoiled brat I swear lol.

| What specific instructions. Evanescence followed her wording exactly, moving left and downward, her paws meeting the hold that Corentine had mentioned. Auds flickering to the sound of her voice, Evanescence moved towards her and then hopped down the ledge, coming beside her now. It was a tedious task, one that required patience, but a quick mind in case anything dangerous were to happen. She was in Corentine's care, at the moment, and this involved a heavy amount of trust from the both of them. While Evanescence had never been big on trust... Corentine was different. She could sense a certain loyalty or a duty in her. She could not allow her mind to wander to other things while testing. She would follow Corentine's exact instructions - should the fem misjudge a distance or not acknowledge a jutting stone, that is where the danger would occur. She remained quiet throughout the test, listening to Corentine, studying her in her mind... | |

| Vault had not said the harshest thing he could have, but it was enough to keep Solara from going on any further with her tantrum, as she now followed suit and began to eat with him and Mort. He wondered what Evon would have thought of that, as she had taken Corentine out into the wilderness, probably to begin testing. Better yet, he wondered what would be in store for him individually. Whatever it may be, he felt mentally prepared for whatever it may be. Vault had finished tearing meat and now lay with his share of nourishment between his paws. He now took his time in consuming the reward, though his fangs tore through just as easily as they might at high speed. The food had not lasted him long, as he now stared ahead of him back towards the lake and let himself digest. Solara left the group silently and had traveled to the lake water, where she drank and washed herself from the obvious crimson smears of blood on her maw. She probably intended just to go back to her den, and he figured to do the same. He might as well get the rest he had tried to obtain earlier before the hunt and wait for when he was needed (unless something else came up). Standing up and giving a quick stretch of his pillars, he notified Mort. “I think I might just head back to my den. I have a feeling Evon will want you next. See you in later time.” With that, he made the journey back closer to the lake where his hole in the ground waited for him. | |

| There would be more obstacles as they descended, but some of the ledges were also started to lengthen. By now, after much instruction, they were probably about part of the way down, although she wasn't focused on when they'd get done. The process to get there was more important. Corentine looked at the path ahead. There was the ceiling of a tiny ledge some time ahead, in their way. "In two steps, take one step, dropping one foot. The bottom of a ledge is at the height of your eyes, so crouch for the next five steps, then you can straighten and take one more step." She'd wait until this was completed until she continued, "The next ledge is four paw lengths ahead, one foot drop."
They continued down a little more before Corentine's instruction style differed again. "Next ledge has a crack near the side we'll land. Bypass by walking forward two three steps. The edge of the ledge is one paw width in front of you. Safely pass the crack by turning right five degrees. Then seven paw lengths ahead and a two foot drop. There's nothing in the way if you leap, and you have space to take a few steps if needed when you land." She'd have to wait until Evanescence touched down on the ledge before telling her exactly how many steps to take before the next ledge. The rest of the way down looked smoother now, the only things getting the way were the occasional rock in the way, or the warning of loose ground and how to avoid such cases. She knew it was a long way down, but it was even longer since they had to go down with much caution as their priority. If she kept giving instruction like this, they'd be at the bottom soon, but even at low heights, there was still risk of injury, so she had to remain alert until they very bottom where she would announce this.

| As if she were more of an obedient soldier rather than a noble pack leader, Evanescence followed Corentine's every instruction, the two of them navigating their way down the cliffside. Her paws were quick, stepping precisely at Corentine's words, her eyes closed. There was a certain faith between them, at the moment; it was true that Evanescence did not know her way, but were she to fall, she could catch herself. Of course, Corentine wouldn't (and couldn't) know this. That's be a form of a cheating. She flattened her body with her stomach on the ground, slinking underneath the earth shelf, and straightening when the ceiling disappeared. She took a step forward and then placed her paw out, feeling the empty air; the drop that Corentine had so described. She hopped down, bracing herself for a larger fall, but it was as she had expected. She heard Corentine's voice a good distance away now, probably over the jump. Evanescence took a step back and tensed her thighs, trotting forward and then giving a high leap, arcing clear over the jump. She padded forward, coming up beside Corentine's shoulder, the two of them touching. "Good so far," she complimented, smirking, but the test was still in progress. "How much longer is it to the bottom? I can smell the water from here. And I grow even thirstier."Evon's ears twitched at the sound of something both above them and below them, a sound she recognized very well but said nothing about. There were shadows in the crevasse, yellow eyes watching the two wolves descend. She wondered if Corentine would notice... | |

As Solara padded back to her den, her body suddenly grew more and more tired the closer that she got. It was more apparent than ever she had been depriving her body too much sleep. She yawned and crawled into the den she had marked earlier in the day. As she reached the end of the tunnel she collapsed. She did not circle around to prepare the ground, she just hit it with a thud. She did not protest as her body hit the ground. Her crimson optics closed and the dreaming began almost instantly.
Her fathers form was coming closer to her, Niko was off hunting. She whimphered slightly in her sleep and her optics fluttered open. They were still cerulean like the rest of her family then and her dream was tinted such color. He stopped in front of her, Amai was by his side. Amai spoke to Mikalai 'Should we kill her?' Mikalai growled to his daughter, 'No, she will prove to be useful someday' His lyrics were harsh to Amai. Amai rolled her eyes at her father 'Whatever you say...She's ill father and there is nothing we can do for her...' Solara cried out in pain. Mikalai moved closer to her, 'Shhhhh my Princess, it will all be okay soon, close your eyes and sleep..' He spoke softly to her. Amai was watching her as she closed her eyes to sleep ..
Solara woke up. her sisters mahogany gaze was still on her mind. That was when her gaze turned from bright blue to bloody crimson. She had been so sick, she had come so close to dying. That was why she worked so hard to prove herself to everyone. She closed her bloody optics once more, but this time no dreams came. Just sleep.

| "We have about ten drops more before reaching the bottom," she replied. She couldn't help but feel this was too simple. This whole time, she'd been quite tense and focusing on her surroundings, although it didn't show, although maybe some of it had leaked through earlier. Her voice didn't betray anything, but she was growing more tense than she had been at the top. The instincts of a well-trained warrior told Corentine to be on guard, but she couldn't place her finger on if anything was wrong. There weren't wolves here other than them. Of course, if Evanescence knew of something, she wouldn't say anything. She continued to recite instruction, until they were on the last ledge before touching the bottom of the crevasse. "You're on the last ledge, so you can turn ninety degrees to your right and three steps ahead, there's a one foot drop, and you're on the bottom. The water is a couple wolf lengths away."
Her eyes scanned the area, learning the layout. Many times she used place with numerous hiding places to her advantage, so she knew she could stay calm and responsive, even on the unprotected end. Was this because the pack lands, too, were testing her, or was this part of Evanescence's test? Her mind could also be playing tricks on her, as some degree of paranoia had inevitably made it's way into her instincts. In her typical fashion, she would not concern all her thoughts with it until something actually happened.

Evanescence nodded, picturing the rest of the cliff face in her mind. She noticed, though, that Corentine seemed slightly tense; perhaps she could feel the creatures watching them from the shadows. Evanescence did not need her eyes, nose, or ears to tell her what Corentine was feeling, carrying on her duty with a manner of alertness, as this was what a canine's sixth sense was for. She waited for the fem to falter because of her emotions, but that did not happen. Evanescence followed her instructions and her pads hit the crevasse floor, the crisp scent of flowing water near.
"You've done well, Corentine. Come. Have a drink with me," she said, her eyes remaining closed. Though they had reached the bottom... The test was not yet over. Evanescence made her way over to the stream and drank, the waters just as cool and just as sweet as the rumor had told, rich like that of boar's blood but cold like that of the Lake's... Mountain water.
Evanescence was just about done when she heard the vicious snarl of one of the creatures that had been watching them from above. A distinct, skunky odor came from the short, stocky creature, his lips pulled back and revealing a deadly row of yellow fangs. "These are my waters, bitches! Get the hell out of here!" the wolverine growled, his black nails digging into the earth, ready to fight for his territory. The skunky scent that surrounded him grew stronger, and one by one, more wolverines began to pour into the cavern, until the two wolves were surrounded. There were at least seven wolverines, with more coming. Though her eyes were still closed, Evanescence tilted her head at Corentine, curious as to what her actions would be. "It appears that we're in a spot of danger," she said, her voice and position calm, not responding to the savage across the stream, nor any of the ones that were closing in on them. They could not fight them all, nor could they immeaditly flee, given that Evanescence was currently "blind" and the wolverines were faster than they appeared. Unless, of course, Corentine already had something in mind... This was her test, afterall. "But before you do anything, I'll just let you know that calling for others' help will be considered cheating. Protect me," she added, a smirk to her lips. She wanted to know Corentine's full potential, right here and right now. She wouldn't let any wolverine tooth or claw touch her, but if Corentine was suitable for the position she had in mind, she wouldn't need to even worry.

| It seemed as if her test was over, by Evanescence's words, but her eyes did not yet open. Still, Corentine joined her and drank some water, surprised of the quality of water. Then, it was all too clear why her instincts had been roused as wolverines appeared. Her eyes narrowed slightly at the sight of their approach. Then the alphess said to protect her. This wouldn't be so difficult to achieve, as long as these wolverines had some brains. To protect didn't necessarily mean to fight. In fact, it would be stupid to initiate an attack.
She wanted to make a comeback, but held her tongue. Instead, she looked at the wolverine who spoke, saying in an apologetic tone, "I'm sorry. I was just trying to treat my friend here to some good water. Of course, I should have realized these waters had strong guardians. We'll leave now, if you'll allow us to." She noticed some of them had started to block their exit. It appeared as some of the creatures seemed to be fine with her idea, but it was this seeming leader she needed to convince to peacefully let them go. She was ready for a fight, but in this case, it would be wiser to avoid it if possible. As long as she didn't initiate any attacks, only fighting in self defense, she'd be able to do what Evanescence said. Her eyes scanned the group enclosing them, ready to fend them off if any were to attack.

A talk? Well, it was a good idea, and showed that Corentine had wits. Most wolves would have considered fighting with the tongue than with teeth and claws a pure-esque action, but that was only because they failed to think. Evanescence herself was a master of this fighting style; one could take their enemies down from the inside, if the situation called for it. However, wolverines were not like wolves. They were brash and did not have the ability to think ahead. Nonetheless, Evon remained silent as the lead wolverine spoke.
"Are you from the above?" the wolverine asked, tilting his flat-shaped head up at the top of the crevasse. "Because all of those wolves know that this water is OURS. We should kill you both for drinking from it. But I think we'll let our gatekeeper, the one you trespassed, handle all of this..." The wolverine turned his beady gaze downwind, where a hulking shadow the size of a small bear was spotted walking alongside the stream. The gatekeeping wolverine was huge, his black talons shredding the path beneath him, muscles rippling beneath a solid chestnut coat, striped with black. His mouth hung open and his eyes, unlike the leader's, were a bright yellow, piercing through the soul of whoever looked at him... And he did not look pleased.
The leader and the other wolverines began to back away, the gatekeeper at least twice their size. Clearly, their exit was up to the gatekeeper. Unlike the other wolverines and their skunky smell, he had the heavy scent of death upon him. He had killed recently. Still, Evanescence did not open her eyes, but she turned to Corentine. "Show him who is the better beast," she said, not commanding, but encouraging. She didn't expect Corentine to be afraid of a battle, but one never knew. "Make me proud to call you a wolf."
The gatekeeper snarled and snorted out his nose, green snot hitting the ground, and he inhaled a lungful of air and then bellowed loudly at Corentine, his roar filling and bouncing off the canyon walls. The fur on the back of his neck raised and his long, flat tail raised in the air, beckoning her to fight. OOC: You can RP the gatekeeper wolverine too. Use your creative freedom :]

| She had a feeling this would come down to a fight. Green eyes seemed to glaze over slightly at the sight of the large wolverine, just knowing it was going to attack. Her mind eliminated all thought of distraction, but intentionally included Evanescence, because if this was still a test, she'd have to hear her, but apparently, she was looking for her to fight anyways. As the beast roared, she pulled her ears back, teeth flashing in a silent snarl. She probably wouldn't be able to feasibly kill this gatekeeper with quick ease, since she didn't know if he'll be slowed down by his weight, or be surprisingly fast.
She ran towards it, making it look like she was going to aim for an instant kill, and the beast took a step to prepare for such an attack. When she got close, she planted her forepaws, spinning her body around to face to the side, almost turning her back on the beast, hindlegs deliberately kicking up dry sand and rock. Quickly, she turned back to face her opponent, taking his distraction to charge at him, leaping above him, deliberately pushing her hindlegs against his snout and near his eyes with her claws digging in to cause more pain, and propelling herself over its back. When she landed on the ground, she whirled around, snapping at a hind leg, not caring how deep the wound was as long as it drew blood.
This is what she enjoyed doing. She normally doesn't have the endurance for long fights. She hit fast and sometimes unpredictably, either using lots of energy at once, or spreading out her energy usage- sometimes adding some flare into her attacks. Her parents got the idea for her name from a violent storm, and she lived up to that ideal. Said parents never cared about a wolf that would last in a fight. Just one that would get the job done quickly. Otherwise, they probably would have named her after a hurricane instead. Her parents realized this would come with faults and weaknesses, most of which she still had, but there had been a few pleasant surprises.
The gatekeeper had roared in irritation at loosing a bit of sight, snarling when Corentine added more pain. It had little else time to react when it was bit on the back leg, and by the time he turned around, he didn't see her. Corentine followed the beast's path, hiding out of it's now limited sight. By now, the wolverine was growing frustrated. It was used to defeating animals many times his size with ease. How was this relatively small creature gaining an upper hand? Corentine was silent as she struck again. What the was point in growling or making some other noise when it was easier not to make herself noticeable until after the attack was executed? She anticipated where the wolverine would turn next so she could leap and strike the back of it's neck. As she came down, her claws scratched at the sides of its neck, aiming for any veins or arteries. While coming down past the wolverine's shoulder, she twisted her body, fangs attacking the front of the neck as the beast turned to take a bite of her own neck. Instead, she used her feet to kick the wolverine's head up. Using that momentum, she let her teeth go and dropped to the ground forelegs first, and retreated a safer distance, watching to see what had become of the gatekeeper. It was clearly bleeding, and it was loosing its cool and focus on the fight.

| The gatekeeper wolverine snarled all throughout the fight, his talons slashing empty air and jaws snapping dust. His eyesight was sharp and keen, but for some reason, they could not keep up with the wolf's movements. Her teeth made contact with his back leg and he howled in pain, but it was short-lived, as she suddenly struck him in the front, claws digging into his shoulder and drawing blood. He dived for her neck but she kicked him away, and he whipped his head around to snap at her again, but she was now out of his reach. The wolverine paused, panting for breath; how was such a small thing defeating him so easily? He could feel the blood dripping from his wounds... The wolf had struck fast but not deep, but it had been enough to break his skin and cause pools of blood to dribble.
Evanescence did not have to see to know what was going on. Judging by the wolverine's frustrated snarls, he was losing the fight. She couldn't help but smirk at Corentine's silent attacks - The fem seemed to have a very similiar fighting style to her own. Who need sound to reveal their position? Corentine seemed to be even more promising than Evanescence had ever expected. Of course, she would wait for the fight to be over to make her final judgement.
The other wolverines barked and hollered throughout the fight, egging the gatekeeper on and hoping to distract Corentine, whether it was effective or not. The gatekeeper locked his gaze with the wolf that had drawn his blood and his parted his jaws, muscles tense and ready to begin another attack on her, but instead switched his body and turned to the white wolf that had not yet moved. Snorting, he clenched his haunches and sprang forward, charging straight for Evanescence, who stood like a stone...
She could feel him coming, the earth beneath her shaking with each bound he made. She steeled herself for the impact, unless...

| Stupid wolverine she whispered. It's not like anyone would hear her over the annoying sounds the gatekeeper was making. As the beast started to charge straight at Evanescence, the word protect seemed to be yelling inside her brain. Her eyes seemed to clear from their previous half glazed over look. She had a smaller, lighter frame than the wolverine and was sure she could move faster, at least, for such a short sprinting distance. She ran, and was gaining on the wolverine, she seemed to have a slightly slower acceleration speed than her, giving Corentine the advantage on catching up. As she pushed herself forward, she found herself almost side-by-side with the beast. She added a burst of speed so she could push off the ground. The gatekeeper seemed too intent on his new target to do anything about it.
Her jaws clamped down on the neck once again, on, or at least near, the same spot she had the first time. Her added weight and momentum also caused the beast to stagger to the side, and they were close enough that the wolverine wouldn't be able to realign himself towards Evanescence, even if he didn't fall over. She was sure her fangs would drive deeper this time. For good measure, she jerked her head in a violent manner back and forth to rip fur, skin, blood vessels, anything, and used her paws to claw at his face, mostly aiming for the nose and eyes. Theoretically, it should be stupid, even for a wolverine, to ignore a wolf attacking the neck and face in favor of assaulting a different target. Now, though, perhaps this time she'd hit a major vessel with this persistence. She could feel the blood seeping into her mouth. Her eyes were clear, narrowed with a lust for drawing more blood. Now her mind would block out even the alphess' voice were she to speak, although she just be able to remember orders prior to the start of this fight. Corentine was now displaying the rage of a storm, a rage that had been held back before. She had been almost as close to being emotionless during a fight as possible- the waning calm of the storm. She sensed this fight should soon draw to a close if not now...

| Mort(ifactus)
A loud roar pulled mortifactus out of his feasting. It sounded like something big and nasty, and he certainly didn't envied the wolf who got him or herself in conflict with whatever animal that was making the noise. His nuzzle still driping with the blood of the moose, he went of in search for the source of the noise, as he was curious what caused it, altough he had no need to interfere, except when it could hold benefits from him. And he was fairly sure that Evon was causing this. That made him even more anxious to get there even faster, as he would like to analyze the way she could possible test him, both physicaly and mentally.
As he more closely aproached the source, he noticed the chasm where the sound supposedly had been coming from, and a moment later, a storm of sound came from down there: barking, snorting, angry roars.... Mortifactus lowered his body and sneaked closer to the ridge of the chasm. From the sound of it, it where quite some wolverines down there, and under their thick stench, he discerned wolves. He peeked over, to see what was going on.
Amidst a crowd of wolverines, Corentine, or whatever her name had been, was fighting with a particular big wolverine. And Evon was... Just standing there. With her eyes closed. Shouldn't we help them? Nah, I think Corentine has everything under control. And, such it seemed to Mortifactus, she had. She was fighting her much larger opponent by attacking from all sides, being faster and more agile. She didn't beared down on him, like Mortifactus had would. Altough he was quite impressed by her fighting skills, he knew she wouldn't really last in a prolonged fight, but against this opponent, that didn't mattered. Mortifactus smirked silently. Mort was quite nervous. Adn then the lare beast charged for Evon, with Corentine clamped at him. Mortifactus was eager to see where this would be going.

| A terrible sound wrenched the air, screeching like a rabbit that had been caught, all of the air forced out of its lungs. This was the sound the wolverine made as Corentine launched herself at it, toppling over with her claws in his face and her teeth in his neck. He swatted his long talons at her small frame, hoping to shove her off, but his vision became blurry and he lost his balance, collapsing onto the ground with a heavy 'thud'. The gatekeeper's breaths were heavy and rasped, a large pool of blood forming a river where he lay, trickling into the stream. His jugular had been severed... and the light faded from his eyes.
Evanescence finally opened her own eyes, seeing the bottom of the canyon, the dead gatekeeper, and the swarm of wolverines for the first time. The wolverines were livid, snarling and digging their talons into the earth, but they remained where they were. The head wolverine glared at Corentine, looking as if he was going to attack her himself, but instead spat, "Out with you! You have killed our gatekeeper. That is enough to show us your prowess. But this is just a warning, wolves. Next time, we will not hesitate to kill you on the spot."The wolverines opened up the circle that had been around them, allowing a passage up the cliffside whence they came. Evanescence said nothing to them, seeing that any further words would have initiated another battle. She slowly approached Corentine, coming up to her side, but keeping her distance. She had sensed the rage the fem had felt, the rage of an entire storm, and judging by the blood on her chest and face, it could still be there. "Congratulations," she said in a low tone, low enough for only Corentine to hear. "You now hold the rank of my personal bodyguard and advisor."Knowing that Corentine would eventually follow, Evanescence strode the path and climbed up on the rocks that would take her back to the top, back into the forest and to the Lake where the others were.

| The gatekeeper was loosing life, she could feel it. With the waning of this life, though, the storm dissipated as quick as it arrived, her eyes just as sharp as ever, but showing more alertness to her surroundings. This happened just as the voice of the wolverine leader reached her. She noticed his pose had been as if he wanted to attack, but he didn't move. At least he seemed smart enough to know it'd be pointless to attack. Evanescence was taking precaution to approach, which Corentine didn't blame her for. She was new in these lands, and the alphess doesn't yet know her restraints and limits to her displayed capabilities.
She heard her new ranks. Although she wasn't surprised, she didn't expect the ranks. Reflecting back on the test, she now understood the test for bodyguard, but not quite sure where advisor came from, unless that derived mostly from the first part of the test. Nodding in response, she figured no words were needed at this point. As Evanescence started to make her trek back up, she followed. These ranks were... different. One of them, she'd done informally on occasion. The alphess was smart, though, and Corentine was sure it was for the best.

| The journey up the canyon was significantly easier than the descent had been. Evanescence followed the same path they had come down from, remembering the directions backwards. Glancing over her shoulder she found that Corentine was indeed following, untouched by the wolverines, silent in her repose. Yes, she had made the right decision. Corentine would make an excellent bodyguard with her ability to avoid danger and fight when the situation called for it. There were still a few things Evanescence would have to go over with her as for being her personal advisor, but that would come in time. For now, Corentine's test was over.
She reached the top, the wind blowing in her favor and scenting of Mort. She found the bru standing at the edge of the cliff, looking down at the now-hiding wolverines. It appeared that she and Corentine had had a spectator; no matter, none of the tests were alike. She approached him, noticing the blood drenching his already-crimson hued maw, slowly dripping off his chest and to the ground. Had he run all the way here from the middle of his meal? Interesting. Perhaps he really was the sort to chase after blood if he smelled it.
"Enjoy the show?" she asked, tossing her head at the cavern. She came up next to him and sat back on her haunches, any bias she had held against him about the whole moose-killing ordeal now vanished. Most wolves did not have to learn her lessons twice. She glanced at him, blue eyes flickering, a smirk to her black leathers. "Or just eager to start your own test?"

| Mortifactus saw Evon and Corentine ascending from the cavern. They used a specific slope, adn he memorized the path they took. It could come in handy, if he ever would need to traverse down, altough he doubted he ever would. He rose from his stalking posture, and turned his gaze to Evon, who now was speaking to him.
"It was quite enjoying, those wolverines really think much oif themselves, maybe we should kill them..." He didn't posed it as a question for permission, but laid a slight tone of intrest in it. He licked his lips, bringing "Anyway, I am ready for your 'testing'. When will we begin?" He laid quite some eagerness to the day, but wasn't that at all, he was more intrested in what his task would be in this oack. Hopefully something to do with killing.

| Evanescence couldn't help but chuckle at Mort's words about the wolverines. "They do think of themselves stronger than the rest of us, but for now, they're staying down in that cavern, so they're hardly a threat. You remind me of an assassin we had once, Samael... Bloodthirsty git, he was. He too, wanted to off the wolverine pack," she replied. There was nothing wrong with providing him a little of Lacrimosa's pack history. "So my father let him. Samael went down to fight the wolverines with two other wolves, and ended up dying for his own cause. His two companions survived to tell the tale. Unfortunate, really. Despite his rash intentions, he was a bold killer. But that's all history now."
She shook her white pelt, standing up as he came forward. He was ready for his mission, and she was ready to deliver it. Evon could see a certain look in his eye - whether that look belonged to Mort or to the demon inside him, she couldn't tell, but it was present all the same - one that told of a yearn to kill. "I think you'll be quite excited about what your test will be..." she said, tassle swinging behind her. She arched a brow and then asked, "Tell me, Mort... How do you feel about children?"

| Mortifactus was stunned. Children. For the first time in his life, everything seemed to freeze down, and he didn't immediatly knew what to say. Or atleast, for several sconds. He quickly rearranged his thoughts, and went in the defensive. "I sometimes enjoy playing with pups, but I don't think your asking me this because your planning to appoint me as a nanny, I hope?" He couldn't really link his attititude with supervizing pups, and he really wondered why she asked him in the first place. And he didn't enjoyed pups at all. Mort did, so it was still true, but Mortifactus wasn't too eager to spend his days with babysitting. Certainly not. He had hoped he could do something atleast indirectly involved with killing, because if he didn't got his monthly taste of blood, accidents could happen. This was why he avoided pack life. He wanted to snarl, but restrained himself from doing it, as he wasn't really good friends with Evon in the first place... With that whole moose accident. And her following repraisal. | |

| Evanescence couldn't help but laugh at Mort's response, however quickly he tried to cover it up. Assigning him as a nanny was probably the last thing on the list she could imagine him doing. Her tassle flicked in amusement. "Well, I wouldn't enjoy it too much... Because soon, you'll be killing them," she said, her tone curbing seriousness. Mort had the perfect personality - or should she say, personalities - for either corrupting the youth or tearing them to pieces. "I think this is a job you'll find enjoyable, really. You seem like the type that needs a creative freedom, and here it is: Whelps are the future of any pack. We have none in ours, and it is unnecessary to bring any in, lest they be here for a lesson. But in other packs... They become kings. Queens. Guardians. Healers. The only way to ultimately destroy a pack is to eliminate it while it's young."
She was aware that she was speaking very broadly on the topic, but some background about the available position was needed, she figured. "Now, some specifics for your test. I would like you to bring me three whelps: Two most definitely dead and one alive. One must be from one of the pure packs in the main lands, Tirisfal Valley or Midnight Meadows. If you choose to either snatch or kill a pup from Midnight, not only will you earn your rank, but you will also be given a clue as to what the final exam may be. However, if you are caught or put on a trial of sorts by Midnight, you are not to reveal your loyalties to me or anyone here." Evanescence did not know how loyal Mort was to her yet, but this was a test, afterall. And what could the Midnight wolves do, even if he did reveal where she was? They knew nothing of her plans, nothing of what was to come. And Lacrimosa was full of places to hide, and the forest would protect her if the time called for it. Any fear that could have been planted into her mind was erased with unbridled confidence.
"Any questions, or shall I just let you be on your merry way?" she asked, tilting her head with interest. She didn't care where the other two whelps came from - she just needed to see if he had the drive to kill them, and possibly spare one. She wanted to know his limits, how much blood could fill his belly, or how much it would take for him to break free of any chains that invisibly restrained him. She had learned from the moose incident that yes, Mort was something to behold, and she wouldn't let that escape her grasp so easily... Some wolves just needed a slight word and creative freedom instead of rigid structure and overpowering dominance.

| The more Evon got into details of his task, the wider Mortifactus' smile became. He wanted to burst out in some maniacal laughter, but restrained from it. The blood surged trough his body, he was getting excited! When she finished, he wanted to hug her. His "creative freedom"... He wouldn't dissapoint her. And what was hard in killing pups? Except maybe their parents... And pack members.... So okay, there would be some difficulties. "One last question, do I need to bring them down here all at once, or can I do it in...pieces? Except that, I am ready to leave."
He already was planning how he would do it. He would definetly get a pup from Midnight, that will be prioritynumber one. The others too he could snatch of wandering families, then he could have some fun with the parents too. He woud head to Midnight. Try to get one from there alive. He ould maybe even us the pup as a "hostage" in the terms of "Don't get any closer or I'll snap his neck." And then walk down back to here. Or maybe he could lure some pup with him by being cunning? He would see for himself how and what, but he would succeed. After all, he was hungering for blood, and Evon was giving him the perfect chance to reign out that bloodlust. He would remember that. Altough this still didn't made clear what his rank would hold...

| Evon shrugged her slender shoulders. "Up to you, really. As long as they still carry their scent, so I can tell who they once belonged to, if anyone at all," she replied, tassel swaying in contentment. She could see the hype in Mort's red eyes, sparkling like twin rubies - She had known that he was a killer from the start, and so it was only suitable that he were to gain a rank detailing as such. "If you complete the mission, I will tell you more about your rank. Otherwise, go have fun," she said, smiling wickedly, and knowing that the challenge of his test would not lie in the actual killing, but obtaining the whelps to kill. Things would be mighty interesting indeed when he returned...
Evanescence turned and began to head back into the main area, spots of sunlight beginning to pierce through the altocumulus clouds above. She entered the dark grove of the forest, the sunlight disappearing, and the world becoming cool and lachrymose once again. She wondered what whelps Mort would bring back with him - she had never been to any of the other packs besides Midnight. She thought of the little white whelp she had left there in Midnight... Would Mort attack her? Kill her, even? Would the Midnight wolves be able to put up a decent fight? Evanescence had placed her there for precise reasons, one that only she knew, and now it would be up to fate to decide what would happen next. She thought of the three other pups she had seen while she had dropped Echo off: the little black Jabbar king Damean Junior, Cinder and Link's pathetic spawn Navi, and some other whelp she didn't get to know the name of. Or, maybe, Mort would bring back three of these. That would be a treat.
She could scent that the moose was now eaten and buried. While she was glad that she didn't have to smell the carrion, she was still mildly annoyed that it was put to such a waste. But, there was no crying over spilled milk. She didn't see Corentine return yet from the crevasse, but she was not worried - the fem was very capable of taking care of herself. She didn't not see Nikolaos either, so she assumed that he was not yet back from his mission, along with Chimera. It was taking Chimera an awfully long time to fulfill her duty, but these were also trials of patience. Evanescence came upon Vault and Solara in their dens, resting up.
"How are you both doing this afternoon?" the white queen asked, and in a more pleasant tone than she had used in the past. Things were curving her way, and of course, her voice and body language reflected that. "Feeling well-rested, I hope. You still have your tests ahead of you."

| Mort nodded. That was everything he needed. He started to move, and made a quick way out. Following the way he had entered Lacrimosa scant days before, he quickly founded the looming forest turning over to harsh desert. He blinked his eyes, ntused to the sun shining directly upon him, and continued his way. Mortifactus was pretty sure they could run all the way to Midnight in one fell swoop, without the need to stop. And once he was there, he could first replenish his strenght, before the killing would start. Or "stealing"he didn't knew yet. And if he ran in some troubles... Well, he guessed he could fight him a way out. The true problem was getting close to the pups. Most parents are quite protective of their offspring, and wouldn't allow some random stranger with them. His forst priority was localizing them, and for that he went to Midnight Meadows. He wondered what kind f grudge Evon held against that pack... But he would ask her later, or make his own conclusions when he showed the (dead) pups.
So, a white ghost slipped trough the dunes, spelling death and dismay for the Midnight pack...

| She had been following Evanescence closely but when the alphess reached the top and spoke with Mort, she paused to take a look at her surroundings. Although she had seen her surroundings, there had been no opportunity for her to appreciate it. Corentine still had an eye for the nice points in life, and looking down at the crevasse was one of those points. She was still tuned in to what the two wolves spoke about, and when it looked they they were wrapping up, she turned her gaze away, and stepped back onto more solid ground.
As Evanescence walked away, she followed, and noticed they were headed for the pair who weren't yet tested. She remained standing, listening to the conversation but not pitching in.
